In a rather beautiful, sunny, and cool afternoon, a tiny yellow paw tugged at an Oran Berry and yanked it out of the tiny branch before placing it into her sack. Most Pokemon were too busy that day to collect berries, so Meadow was very fortunate enough that Ivysaur had given her the day off. The Pichu had a lot of supplies to collect for all of her projects that she had to do for school. She had a very lovely plan for her next science project, but she needed the right kind of berries to be able to pull it off.
Science was her favorite subject, especially when the topic of plants was introduced. They were reaching the end of their botany chapter, so everyone needed to bring a project that represented what they had learned throughout the chapter, and Meadow had learned a lot. However, due to this, she also had plenty of supplies that she needed in order to complete the project.
The day may have been bright, but the wooded area she was picking berries in was thoroughly shaded, making it hard for her to see some of the berries that she was looking for. The Pichu's large ears twitched slightly as she glanced behind her at a nearby shadow. It had just occurred to her at that very moment that this, perhaps, wasn't the best idea. The darkened trees made for a rather creepy atmosphere, and the fact that there were no other Pokemon in sight didn't help matters.
Her mind began playing tricks on her. It felt as though someone was sneaking up behind her even though there was clearly no one there, which brought chills up her spine. It was starting to drive her mad to the point where she decided to try and find a location that was more pleasant. The Pichu picked up her sack of berries as she walked deeper into the forest, looking for a spot with less shade.
---
Meadow had spent several minutes searching, but the only thing it got her was lost. The Pichu had found herself deep into the forest, and now she couldn't find her way back to the capital. Meadow started to become rather exhausted in her search for a less scary spot to pick berries, but ultimately decided that she had wasted so much time doing just that that she would have to take a break. The Pichu sighed as she placed the sack of supplies on the ground near one of the trees. The little Pichu then sat at the base of the tree, settling herself quite nicely at the base, much like Tanis had.
Meadow smiled. Tanis hadn't been the most pleasant of encounters, but for whatever reason, the Pichu had her heart and mind set on making friends with that Treecko. She didn't know why, but Meadow could tell that there was actually a nice Pokemon deep down in that harden shell of the Treecko that was Tanis. And, somehow, it was up to her to crack that shell. For now, though, she had to focus on her task.
Right after a short break, of course.

Being a nomadic assassin meant Lucifer often found himself in places where he would not normally go. One such place was Invictus. The country's strict regime was usually enough to deter him. However, the Absol had to bite the bullet as the target he had been hired to kill resided here. Lucifer moved silently through the forest until he picked up the scent of a strange Pokemon nearby.
He carefully followed the scent in case it was his target. However, it was not to be. The stranger turned out to be a Pichu. The little yellow mouse Pokemon was sitting at the base of tree with a sack. The Absol was not one to pass up an easy meal, so he crept closer while using the shadows as cover.

The moment Meadow and slowly slid her eyes shut, the Pichu had fallen asleep unexpectedly. She swore she'd only shut her eyes for a mere second, but then suddenly she had drifted into a light sleep. Apparently Meadow had been working passed the nap time she'd intended to take that day, and the little Pichu simply couldn't help herself. After all, even if she was eighteen years old, she was still in her baby stage. It made resisting naps hard, and it practically forced her to go to sleep early, otherwise prepare to sleep wherever you stand, whether that be on the job, in the middle of a lake, or face down on the dirt ground. In this particular case, though, Meadow was all alone in the middle of a rather ominous forest. Needless to say, probably not the best spot for napping, especially when there was a stranger carefully sneaking up to her.
The crunching grass under the Absol's paws caused the Pichu's giant ears to twitch as she let out a bit of a massive yawn. Meadow rubbed her eyes with her tiny yellow paws as she instinctively glanced up at the canine - feline? No, definitely canine. - stranger before letting out a bit of a startled shriek before grasping her chest and trying to catch her breath. Ah, an Absol! Quite the interesting Pokemon, to be sure, but this was her first time meeting one in person.
Not realizing the danger she was in, Meadow's ears went down shyly as she glanced down at her feet before looking back up into the fierce, red eyes of the Absol. Despite looking at the predator dead in the eyes at one point, Meadow did not recognize that the Pokemon had any attempt at taking her life. After all, she'd lived in the capital of Invictus her whole life, and she'd never once been targeted as prey, even if she was picked on by her siblings.
Meadow shook her head to try and focus on the current situation. Perhaps this Absol needed assistance of some kind? Why he would ask such a small creature as herself for help was beyond her. Perhaps he needed to get something from a spot he was too large to squeeze into? "Is-" Meadow gulped, trying to gain her composure. She had to pretend this was a job if she would be of any help. "Is there something I could help you with, Mr. Absol?"

Lucifer's broad paws were furred on their undersides and muffled his footsteps slightly. However, it was not enough to stop the rodent Pokemon from waking up. He halted his approach as the Pichu let out a shriek. The Absol watched the timid Pokemon pull themselves together. Lucifer kept his neutral facial expression and snorted as he was addressed as "Mr. Absol".
He stared right back into the Pichu's small, dark eyes. The Absol had no intentions of asking for help. However, Lucifer needed to bide his time until he had the opportunity to strike. He responded to the question with his own cold reply. "I try to avoid asking for help, especially from a weakling."

The hesitance to respond caused Meadow's ears to twitch backwards slightly. It seemed as though the Absol was trying to approach her, but the moment she noticed him, he stopped. He almost seemed surprised that he had been noticed. Meadow honestly couldn't blame him. She had to admit, she had barely heard the footsteps before waking up. It must have been rather startling to hear a little Pichu squeak in shock. Still, she couldn't really judge a Pokemon she didn't know, though the Pichu couldn't help but back away at some of the stances the Absol made. It almost looked predatory to her.
Meadow's ears only lowered all the more at the cruel comment. She couldn't take it too much to heart because, after all, it was the truth. She was rather small and frail, and although she was no Hoppip, it almost felt as if she could be blown away by a breeze at times. It was the truth, so she would say nothing to try and disprove that claim.
Still, there had to be some reason for the Absol to make his presence known. Why would he be approaching her in this manner if there wasn't a reason? Could it have just been her imagination and he was just trying to get around her? Perhaps he needed to get something out of the tree she was sitting near? It would be odd of her not to ask, but it certainly would be rude if she wasn't tactful about it. "Are you sure?" she questioned, trying to choose her words carefully. "Then... if I may ask, why... what do you need here?"
He was peering directly into her eyes with such intensity that it frightened her. There was just so many shadows, she couldn't get a good look at him, though the silhouette had made it clear that it had to be an Absol. The Pichu backed up against the tree, placing both of her tiny paws against its bark. She was clearly nervous, but not terrified. All she could do was speculate the Absol's intentions. There was no proof that he had any reason to be willing to bring any harm to her.
For now, the Pichu decided to relax and sit herself against the tree. She would obviously keep her eye on the Absol, but she wasn't about to abandon her spot because of someone who proved not to be dangerous. "I am... the assistant of Ivysaur in the Flower shop at the capital. I... I just assumed that..." Meadow's words trailed off as she clammed up. Boy, had she really messed this one up.

Lucifer had expected the Pichu to cry or try to defend themselves. However, the electric type did neither. He rolled his eyes as he was questioned again. "Yes, I am," the Absol replied curtly. "That isn't your concern." He found the Pichu's fear unsurprising.
Lucifer slowly walked towards the Pichu as they backed up against the tree. He aimed to maintain the distance between himself and the mouse Pokemon. The Absol couldn't have the Pichu running off. Lucifer chuckled darkly at the yellow rodent's words. "Making assumptions is never a good idea." He had a feeling this little warning would unnerve the Pichu further.

Meadow had just about went as far back as she could. The Absol didn't seem impressed by her shaky response as he rolled his eyes. The small creature's heart was racing as she was finding it more and more difficult to believe that he was up to anything but no good. Why would he insist on not telling her his approach to her if this wasn't the case? Perhaps he was interested in her berries? She was by no means about to give it up, but through out this whole "stare down", he never once even glanced at her sack of fruit. His eyes had been firmly on her the whole time...
...And he looked hungry.
Meadow's paws scratched against the bark a bit as she was incapable of backing up any further. He took a few steps forward, and though it was hard to see, on the black sithe horn, she could have sworn she saw red on it when it was exposed to the light just slightly. That was all she needed to know that danger was very imminent.
His next comment cause her blood to chill and her breath to hitch. Her ears were pinned down against her skull as her head lowered in uncertainty. Everything in her screamed for her to run as fast as she could out of there, and not care about the sac that was sitting on the ground, but her limbs didn't seem to connect to her brain. Or, rather, not to her legs, because though she was trying to push herself to run, she was like a deer in headlights.
Meadow's eyes widened as she simply found it impossible to run away. If he wanted a chance at an easy meal, this was Lucifer's opportunity. Or, it could just lead to a massive chase. Either way, Lucifer's message had now been understood, and with the combination of being lost in the middle of the forest and essentially being cornered, her only chance of escape was if she could just get herself to move.
Or, if she was wrong. "Then..." she spoke just below a whisper. "Then why are you... approaching m-me?"

Lucifer watched the Pichu shrink back against the tree. He had expected the little mouse Pokemon to flee. However, the Absol's prey appeared to have frozen in fear. Perhaps this hunt would be easier than expected. Of course, Lucifer was not about to take any chances.
The timid Pokemon could still flee if they came to their senses quickly enough. Despite having rather acute hearing, he barely caught the Pichu's soft whisper. The Absol was somewhat taken aback as he thought the terrified Pokemon had already figured it out. "I would have thought you would have figured that out." Lucifer turned his head to the side in order to fool the Pichu and prepare an attack. "It's hardly a crime to approach another Pokemon."

Meadow's fear decreased quite a bit, but a large portion was merely replaced with confusion. If he wasn't meaning to cause any harm, then why was he being so secretive about approaching her? He seemed like quite the tough Pokemon. Was he afraid of her? Why would he be afraid of a little Pichu? Meadow quickly decided that was not the reason. What Pokemon would be afraid of a little Pichu, like her, anyway?
Something that made a tad bit more sense was that he was trying to ask for help, but he was too embarrassed to admit it. After all, that comment about her being a weakling probably wouldn't have helped most Pokemon with wanting to help him. But Meadow wasn't one for holding grudges, and if he wanted her help, she was willing. That being said, she couldn't exactly help someone who wouldn't tell her what she needed to do to help.
She could have assumed that he didn't need her help, too, but she remembered that all he had said was that he tried to avoid help from weaklings. She'd been looking around for a long while, and there was no sign of any Pokemon until she met up with this Absol. Maybe he really meant that he needed help, but that he didn't like the idea of asking her? She must have been expected to figure that out, but she wasn't one to catch those kinds of signs right away.
And, of course, there was still a chance she could have been wrong.
How was she supposed to go about this, now? What could he have wanted help with? The Pichu instantly brought her attention to the berries in her sack. Of course! Perhaps he could smell the berries in her bag, so maybe he needed help finding some. Or, maybe he was asking if she could share some with her? Well, if that was the case, then it didn't seem like such a bad thing. It was kind of rude of him to make her figure this out on her own.
"You know," Meadow spoke cautiously. Her inner customer service skill was kicking in, so she wasn't nearly as timid as a second ago, but she was still rather meek. "If you want, I can share some of my berries with you." The Pichu stuck her paw into the bag and brought out a Razz Berry. "I may not look it, but I'm an expert when it comes to plants. It's easy for me to locate berries like these." At this point, Meadow wasn't totally convinced that he meant no harm, but she patted a spot next to her anyway. It was easier for her to help him out that way.
Meadow looked through her sack to try and see if he was interested in any of the berries she had. "So, what berries were you looking for? I may not have them, but I'm sure I would be able to help you find the ones I don't have. That's why you're here, right?" Meadow didn't even glance at Absol as she looked through her bag.

Lucifer prepared to swing his head back towards the Pichu to attack with his scythe, but the little Pokemon's offer of berries caught him off-guard. Had the Pichu anticipated the Absol's attack? Either way, Lucifer was not thrilled with the stalling. "I don't accept bribes," he stated plainly. "Berries are not hard to come by. Fresh meat, on the other hand, is a little hard to find." The Absol padded over to the spot the Pichu indicated, knowing it was a perfect spot to strike from.
Lucifer snorted as the yellow rodent rummaged in the sack. "That's not what I'm searching for. This is just a quick break before I get on with my job. No, why I am here doesn't concern you." He was not about to reveal his true intentions until he had caught his prey.

Meadow tilted her head at the odd comment. "Bribe? I'm not bribing you," Meadow spoke with a bit of a nervous laugh as she quit looking through her bag. "I'm just trying to help you." Meadow arched her eyebrows. "Though I don't know how I can help with giving you "fresh meat" but I'll see what I can do." Of course, Meadow had assumed that the Absol was joking, though her customer service skill was ever so slowly starting to fail on her. Her grin was starting to become more and more forced, and now that she wasn't searching for berries to help him anymore, Meadow was finding it difficult to be genuine and helpful.
Not to mention he was being rather rude. Forcing her to try and guess what it was he was here for was no way to treat someone who was trying to help. Of course, the little door mat had no choice but to keep her mouth shut about it, but that didn't change how she felt about it. Perhaps he was trying to take a seat at her tree without bugging her? If that was the case, then really all he could have done was ask for the spot. He had it now, so... what was she supposed to do now? Get up and keep searching for the berries?
No, that would have been rude of her. He still seemed interested in talking to her. Or, rather, sitting with her. He wasn't asking any questions, so she supposed he couldn't be nearly as interested as she was given the impression. "You're... just taking a break?" Meadow questioned with a smile. "Well... It would have been easier if you just told me that in the first place." Meadow gave a bit of a shrug as she tried to relax against the tree. Certainly, if he had any intentions of harming her, he would have attacked by now. She would keep her ears open, but the Pichu allowed her eyes to flutter shut to relax for a few moments.

Lucifer snorted at the Pichu's denial. "I beg to differ. True kindness doesn't exist," he pointed out. "The only Pokemon who actively help others are the ones with an ulterior motive." The Absol chuckled darkly again. "I've already found some."
Lucifer was glad when the meek little Pokemon began to relax. This would make his job much easier. "Yeah, it's just a quick break before I get on with my job," the Absol replied calmly. "I don't see how, I just told you what you needed to know." As the Pichu settled and closed their eyes, Lucifer saw his opportunity and lunged forward while swinging his head in an attempt to attack the mouse Pokemon with his scythe.

The Absol had tried to strike far too soon if he had hoped to make his kill. Meadow had kept her ears open enough to catch the Dark Type's motion. Just as he was about to slash at Meadow with his scythe, the little mouse, squinted her eyes opened before widening them in shock and then squeaking as she curled herself into a ball to avoid being scratched. Finally catching the signs and realizing that she was in real danger, Meadow was rather reluctant at first.
However, after shaking off the shock, Meadow let out a squeal as she took off running on all fours. The yellow mouse ran a few meters away before realizing she forgot her sack. Clenching her teeth in nervousness, she considered what he option would be. Glancing around, she dove right into a nearby bush, keeping her eyes and ears open for even the slightest of sounds. Meadow would have easily left her berries behind, but she needed them for her project. Well, at least she needed that sack. She could have always come back for more another day, all things considered.
But, more importantly, it wasn't like she could just walk home at the moment. After all, she had lost her way after losing track of her progress. Maybe if she just waited in that bush, the big scary Absol would just go away, and she could grab her sack and try to find her way home.
Meadow let out an inward sigh. This was the last time she would ever search for berries on her own.

Lucifer growled as his attack missed. He had hoped this would be an easy meal. Instead, the Absol would have to pursue the Pichu. Thankfully, the Electric Type had not gone far. Lucifer also had an opportunity to lure the Pichu with the sack of berries they had left behind.
He picked up the sack as gently as possible with his mouth and proceeded to follow the Pichu's scent. The Absol was not too worried about how much noise his furry, broad paws made as the terrified mouse Pokemon would likely be expecting him to show up. Instead, Lucifer followed the scent trail at a leisurely pace until he found the bush that the Pichu was hiding in. Rather than try to get the Pichu himself, he simply settled himself down in a sphinx-like position with the sack of berries in between his front paws. The rodent Pokemon would have to come out sooner or later.

The Pichu barely heard the steady crunches under the feet of the canine as he approached the bush Meadow was in. He even appeared to be so confident that he placed himself right in front of where the yellow mouse remained hidden. At first, the Pichu believed this to be her opportunity to grab the sack of berries, but her nose told her precisely where her sack was now: in the maw of her pursuer. The little Electric-Type gulped. The odds of her being able to get her sack back now was slim to none. At least, she wouldn’t be able to do it without getting herself hurt, or worse. Perhaps it would have been a better idea if she would just forget about the berries all together.
Still, she had worked rather hard to get them. It did make Meadow rather angry at the thought that she would have to give them up because some mean Pokemon thought he could make her a target. Instead of coming out, the Pichu backed up deeper into the bush as she glared out. The little Pokemon could tell that this was some kind of game he was playing. He wanted to bait her out of the bush with her sack, and the moment she would dash out, she would most likely be his dinner.
Well, sorry to say for him, but he would have to try better than that. He thought he could wait her out, well, she could be just as patient if not more. All she would need is a meer second of distraction before she would inevitably be able to dash out and grab her sack. The problem she would have to overcome would be how she would be able to run away while dragging a big bag of berries along with her. She was a rather small mouse, and she wasn’t all that strong.
Whatever. She’d play his game, and she intended to win. Well, of course, she’d have to win or die, so… there was that.
