All there was, but not all there will be
Please know that there is a cliffnote version for this if you do not want to read a wall of text. We reccomend you read the full thing, but here's the cliffnotes here!
ONE FOR ALL
In the beginning, there was but one sole entity. From whence he came is known to none, but his name is revered far and wide: Arceus. Known as the living embodiment of creation, the wise and powerful being is said to be the heart of the universe. Some say he is the last of a powerful race, while others theorize that he was birthed from the very essence of creation itself. One thing is for certain: Arceus was alone in the vast expanse of emptiness, which moved the being to use his mighty power of creation.
The first of his creations were granted reign over temporal and spatial design. These two beings were named Dialga and Palkia, respectively, and their combined power could nearly rival Arceus. However, they were not truly alive. They were hollow. Unable to fix this mistake himself, Arceus created three creatures to do it for him. Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie would grant heart, soul, and mind to the creations of Arceus. First, the trio granted their blessings to each other, then to the rulers of time and space.
With the revelation that he could not alter his children himself, Arceus became concerned at how they would use their powers and created a being to watch over them. Given the name Giratina, this entity's power was perhaps greater than even that of Arceus himself. Giratina was given control of a very important aspect of existence: balance. For every force, Giratina wielded an opposite force of equal power. To Dialga's government of temporal flow, Giratina held the ability to stop time entirely. To Palkia's creation and control of space, Giratina could create antimatter. To the animation trio's ability to watch over one's spirit and grant them free will, Giratina could control others.
But perhaps most importantly, in contrast to Arceus, Giratina held the power of destruction.
As the pool of deities grew, so did Giratina's influence over them. Dialga and Palkia became jealous, feeling that as the first children of Arceus, they were the ones truly deserving of such power. They came to Arceus in rage, and to quell them, he promised them creatures of their own to watch over; beings that would worship and revere them as the gods they were. Reluctantly, the two accepted this compromise.
"But my lord!" they cried, "Where shall they live?" Arceus considered this, and with a roar that echoed throughout all of existence, he created land and sea. Groudon and Kyogre were born to shape and uphold the structure of this new world, but the two naturally conflicted with each other, which caused them to fight. Unable to agree on the design of their world, they fought and fought, making it impossible for the promised subjects to live in either of their territories. Thus, Rayquaza was created to govern the two and put a stop to their constant quarreling. Seeing that Rayquaza was having difficulty, Giratina stepped in to assist. He tore away a portion of Groudon and Kyogre's power, allowing the sky serpent to reign victorious. The defeated gods of land and sea retreated into their domains to rest while Giratina placed their revoked power within two small orbs.
Arceus was upset with Giratina for intervening without his permission, but Rayquaza interrupted.
"But my lord!" Rayquaza cried, "I could not possibly do this alone!" Arceus considered this, and with a roar that echoed throughout all of existence, the guardians were born. Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Regigigas were born, each with the power to create their own set of three warriors to help fight in times of distress. Thus the legendary beasts, birds, and golems were born.
"But my lord!" the gods cried, "How shall they avoid conflict?" Arceus considered this, and with a roar that echoed throughout all of existence, the being of harmony was born to guide the mortals.
"But my lord!" they cried, "How shall they thrive? They would need the power to exist as we do!" Arceus considered this, and with a roar that echoed throughout all of existence, Xerneas was born.
Finally, they were prepared to bring life to the world they had shaped. With a roar that echoed throughout all of existence, Arceus created Mew, the first pokémon, and the first of many. For most of the immortal beings, this was enough to please them.
As for Dialga and Palkia, they wanted more.
COLLAPSE
Still jealous and envious of Giratina's power, the two thought up a cunning trick.
"My lord!" Dialga cried, "Giratina cannot possibly control even half of what you have granted him!" Arceus considered the being of time's words but disagreed.
"My lord!" Palkia cried, "Giratina cannot possibly be trusted with even a third of his power!" Arceus considered the being of space's words but disagreed once more.
"My lord!" the two cried in unison, "Giratina acts without your consent! He cannot be permitted such power!" Arceus considered the two's words, and he agreed. Knowing he could not change what was done himself, he created Jirachi in order to enact his will for him. Giratina's power of absolute destruction was erased.
"My lord!" Giratina cried, "What have I done to deserve this? Surely I could do just as much as you, for I was made in your image!" Arceus considered the being of balance's words but disagreed.
Enraged, Giratina used his newest reverse power to enact his own will. He began creating his own children to make the precious little pets of the other gods miserable. He created Yveltal to oppose Xerneas and bring disease, famine, and death to the mortals. He then created Darkrai to oppose Cresselia's bliss of dreams with nightmares. The world of the mortal subjects of the deities was slowly turning dark. The other legends were outraged by this and turned to Arceus with rage and sorrow in their hearts.
"My lord!" they cried, "Giratina has turned against us! He has created his own dark-hearted children! He has brought misery and death to our subjects! We must destroy them all before it is too late!" Arceus considered their words and only partially agreed. With a roar that echoed throughout all of existence, he created Zygarde to regulate the forces of life and death, while he felt that Darkrai's influence was not harmful enough to merit action. He declared that it was not Yveltal and Darkrai's fault for merely existing, but rather, Giratina's. The two children of the traitorous Giratina would stay under the forgiveness and pity of Arceus.
He turned to giratina. "My son, why must you do this?" he asked.
"Return to me my power and no further harm shall come to your subjects," the hateful god spat.
"My son, I cannot. You are not worthy of such power. You have proven that to me on this very day." Arceus responded, but despite this, he still left Giratina with a second chance.
Giratina was not interested in this paltry gesture. Outraged, he made an unforgivable choice. "The guiding force behind your precious subjects will exist no more, and they will destroy themselves and each other in their own blindness!" he bellowed in rage. Exerting his power over discord, Giratina separated the very elements of the god of harmony, leaving behind a soul ripped in two and a husk of a body. Arceus had finally been pushed too far, and he asked Jirachi to seal Giratina within his own power, the only thing that could contain him.
Despite being imprisoned, Giratina had left permanent damage in his wake. The dismantled god of harmony could not be put back together, and the pieces, now known as Kyurem, Reshiram, and Zekrom, wanted nothing to do with each other. Yveltal and Darkrai were alienated by the rest of the gods despite having little control over what they were doing, and as a result, Yveltal fell into depression while Darkrai grew bitter. But perhaps most important of all were the effects this had on the pokémon that the gods had worked so hard to build up. With both their waking and dreaming minds no longer at peace, and with the introduction of death, they slowly grew dark and aggressive toward each other. The once-peaceful world quickly fell into bloodshed.
DISCORD
Cities, countries, and nations were born. Pokémon began to argue over who was right and who was wrong. Lines divided the pokémon as nobody could trust each other fully and completely. Wars were waged. Pokémon began to fight and slay each other. They studied each other in search of weak points and attempted to improve themselves. Information became vital and protected as basic weapons were created and pokémon began to harness what little power they had to prove their own strength.
Battling became a thrill to some, while to others it was a way of life. Things as trivial as living became harder and many lives were brought to unfortunate and early ends. Morality was tossed aside in the desperate search for power as they began to use each other in morbid, cruel ways that inflicted pain in order to gain an advantage over the enemy. During this time, they managed to harness the power of their energy to create life themselves. A tribe of elgyem and beheeyem, in particular, had been known as the most advanced race with strange machines that would assist them in combat. They created a pokémon they called Porygon, and another they called Ditto. A much less advanced tribe toward the southern deserts managed to find another way, as golett, golurk, baltoy, and claydol were given life, though they used their technology for protection rather than assault.
Despite the technology these two had created, another tribe rose to power with their own creation. Rather than focus on the quantity they could create, they focused on quality as they used information from their ancestor, Mew. A monster of a pokémon was brought into existence and dubbed a weapon. The monster wreaked havoc, quickly building up a reputation as the most feared and powerful pokémon. Still, this pokémon was afraid of something. In order to quell this fear, it attacked any that had an advanced enough technology to give the touch of life. Blueprints of the artificial pokémon were destroyed along with anything associated with it. It destroyed its own documents in a desperate attempt to be the only one of its kind, unrivaled. It succeeded.
In fact, this pokémon fulfilled its purpose so well and so unrivaled that it caught the gods' attention. The weapon was out of control; it brought ruin to everything in its path, and it would not be long before there was nothing left of the pokémon they called their children. They did not want to destroy the creature, however. Instead, they reached out to the monster and gave it a deal. It would become a god, in exchange for working for them. Luckily, the monster agreed.
It was given a new form and a name that befitted the pokémon it was modeled after: Mewtwo. It became a weapon for the gods; a bodyguard of sorts. With the ascension, it disappeared from the world of pokémon. Many simply believe it to have finally been felled by its own genocidal war path, though some fear that the gods may have taken it under their wing. With its disappearance, the technology of creating life was lost, though the pokémon created from it still remained as they were able to breed with the strange pokémon the beheeyem had created known as ditto. It's often rumored that the tribe had predicted this and created ditto for the purpose of keeping their work alive, but it's all just baseless theories.
BLEEDING WORLD
Thousands of years had passed since the ascension, but tensions between pokémon only grew as each became more and more powerful. Generations of hatred and fear began to seep into the genes of the pokémon as they strived to build weapons that would defend and empower them.
Nobody knows who launched the first attack, but war broke out around the world. Every pokémon was for themselves and only the strong would win. Research on weapons was pushed and pokémon began to create items that would enhance the abilities of any pokémon greatly. A Scope Lens would increase the ability to hit weak points, a Muscle Band would allow a pokémon to hit harder, or an Assault Vest would defend the pokémon from the more energy-based attacks. They began to create items that would assist in combat as well to use alongside the natural gifts brought to them long ago by Arceus. Sandstorm Orbs would bring a sandstorm to the field, Rebound Orbs would help counter attacks, Evasion Orbs would make the user harder to hit, Technical Machines would teach powerful moves far faster than a tutor could, and so on.
Along with these average items, powerful weapons of destruction were created: Mega Stones and Z-Crystals. Both of these two items were terrible and immoral in nature, each capable of mass destruction in the span of seconds. In a mere moments, a Z-Crystal on a particularly powerful pokémon could obliterate a small village while the mega stone brought immense pain upon the bearer as the overflow of energy forced them to evolve once more. Monsters were created from these items.
Many turned to the gods for help to end this terrible war, but they remained silent. The gods had grown disgusted with the children they once loved, and so their filthy pleas to destroy one another went ignored. The gods turned spiteful towards their children and allowed them to destroy themselves ever so slowly and painfully. Many more pokémon drifted away from the belief in their gods as they felt abandoned and betrayed.
Many, many pokémon fell before at long last, a time of peace was called as all sides were on their final breaths.
THE WHITE DAWN
At long last, the pokémon understood that they were on their own in this world. They needed to work together, and so, an organization was formed. This organization was called The Multi-National Security Panel, otherwise known as MNSP. The goal of this plan was to form some kind of peace and order between the different nations. The MNSP was made up of representatives and politicians from each nation. A headquarters was established and the land around it was declared to be "everybody's land" as it belonged to the MNSP as a whole. This land was open to civilians to live in and was highly fantasized to be the most tolerant place in the world filled with equality, though politicians still seemed to be viewed more highly.
Civilians were allowed to move into the land, as it would be protected from any war and conquest the other nations may have had to face. However, entry was difficult as space and resources were limited. It was not too rare for a civilian or two to slip in without proper papers.
The MNSP moved on to put laws and restrictions on their combat. Mega Stones were outlawed from use across the world, though it remained legal to have them. Z-Crystals were permitted for civilians to have, but permits were required with very strict circumstances of use.
Perhaps most importantly, the MNSP created a secret task force known as White Dawn. This task force was assigned to uphold these rules along with the peace in the shared land. The group was meant to be kept a secret, but alas, whispers of their existence still float through the streets in hushed voices.
THE SILENT WAR
At a glance, peace flourished. However, underneath the peaceful exterior of the world were malevolent intentions. The members of the MNSP never truly came to trust one another, and as such, had a tendency to think more about themselves than about others. Tensions remained high as virtually every country politically battled for self-service. Countries began building up their military power in order to intimidate others, constantly trying to surpass each other in strength. The welfare of their citizens became a secondary priority in this bloodless war driven by fear and lust.
One member of the MNSP with a particularly lacking military presence but a strong scientific community and particularly low moral standards began permitting rather cruel experiments with the hope of advancing their own military presence. Their experimentation primarily revolved around "artificial" pokémon such as golett and baltoy as well as the anomaly known as ditto in an effort to reverse-engineer them and isolate a way to create life of their own. They tried many times to create a spark of life similar to what had given the golett and baltoy evolutionary lines life, and in need of bodies to test this on, they began... "appropriating" materials from graveyards. They worked effortlessly to craft a powerful body, alongside a sustainable source of life, until finally, they succeeded.
Sort of.
The first successful experiment, which held the properties of every energy variant commonly known simply as "types," was dubbed "Type: Null." It was deranged and aggressive, but it was able to utilize and resist every elemental power, just as the legendary being Arceus was described as being capable of. Or at least, it was able to do this for about five minutes before experiencing an internal meltdown as the properties of its body and energy conflicted. The result was described as "messy."
THE WILL OF ONE
Experiments continued until the perfect body was crafted, able to sustain every elemental property and, more importantly, not reject itself and explode. By this point, special devices had been made to control which kind of energy flowed through its body at once, as weilding more than one "type" at a time consistently proved to stress the body too much and cause the experiments to experience critical failure. A special mask had also been crafted to limit its power in an attempt to prevent experiments from hurting themselves or anyone else before they could be evaluated, but this was the first time it had been used. This mask was designed only to release upon being exposed to a positive aura from the wearer, so as to prevent an insane and aggressive experiment from running amok. After being conditioned to obey orders through cruel and unorthodox brainwashing, it was finally deemed ready.
Many of the legends had ceased interest in the violent, awful creatures they had created, but some still watched for the rare examples of good that still persisted through all the darkness. Xerneas in specific believed in the ability of pokémon to be virtuous, though she began to fall into a state of depression in recent times as she watched the once-glorious world of mortals fall further and further into a depression of its own. Despite this, she still kept watching and hoping something would happen to turn them away from their dark path, but these horrendous experiments had crossed a very personal line for her and she was no longer willing to sit idly by and wait for the situation to get better without intervention.
The deeply disappointed Xerneas sought out a worthy pokémon to speak to, and after mulling over a few choices, decided on a kind and compassionate delcatty from the country which had committed the amoral atrocities. The delcatty was a political figure with little power due to an unwillingness to compromise her morals to gain favor in the political community, but as a result, she was viewed very highly by the citizens of the country. Under the guidance of Xerneas, this prophet made sure she was a part of the press conference that would reveal the experiment to the public. Due to the general populace having heavy bias toward her, she was chosen to speak a few positive words about the experiment, but she did the opposite.
Despite the government's attempts to condition it into a mindless soldier, the kindness of the delcatty freed the experiment's will and drove it to inform the public of the torture it had endured. The delcatty was arrested and sentenced to death for treason, but this did not go over well with the public. Massive public outcry coupled with disapproval from other members of the MNSP swayed the government to release the convicted politician. The experiment had escaped from captivity as well, leaving the corrupt government at a complete loss.
Despite their blatant cruelty and disregard for life, the country's government was pardoned by the MNSP, though this took many bribes and deals. Most of these persuasive gifts involved the blueprints for the experiment, and before long, these creatures were being replicated all over the globe as versatile soldiers.
REVOLUTION
Unfortunately for the nations, Type:Null would not remain silent even with its freedom. The Type:Null evolved into a Silvally out of affection for the delcatty that had saved him and began to expose them all for the production of Type:Null. The public's outcry was great, but the messenger that delivered to them their package was not as well liked as the Delcatty.
It was a simple and casual morning, almost too quiet perhaps. Silvally was assassinated by an unknown pokemon that feared the potential strength that was rumored to come with Type:Null's evolution.
Of course, Delcatty was furious. With newfound vigor, she led an uprising against the MNSP and demanded that they stop the production of Type:Null altogether across the nations. It was to become a banned practice, never to be replicated.
Reluctantly, out of sheer fear of the masses that followed Delcatty, they agreed.
COLLATERAL DAMAGE
Fourteen years later and peace has seeming returned to the world. Tensions remain high in both the MNSP and relations between MNSP and the civilians. The world is quiet, yet silence is not always a good thing.
Many countries still continue the production of these beasts, continue brainwashing them to fit their needs, and even taking to doing the same with the Fossil Pokemon they manage to bring back to life. While it's all behind closed doors, they feel it is necessary in order to protect themselves against the growing threat of an all out war.
