She was not here to take in the scenery, as much as she would have enjoyed doing so. The monster held no armor save for that attached to her body, only to be released if she was ever to feel a sense of "contentment" she had been told. She was not sure what the scientists had meant by that, but she had concluded that maybe, just maybe, she could reach that point if she could just become strong. What better way than to fight ferals?
The type:null was unfamiliar with this strange forest, but she was eager to get started with her hunt. She had become curious towards the idea of seeing her true face. It was strange, as everyone else could just look into a mirror and see themselves. All she would see was a mask she could not remove. Kala was still not quite sure what counted as a "Feral" or not, the definition of such a word seemed to change with each pokemon she had encountered.
She would ask Indria, but the leafeon had been much too busy as of late. Besides, she needed to do something on her own for once! She had spent far too long in reliance upon others, she needed to learn to learn...right? Ugh, she had begun to hurt her own head with these thoughts that seemed to run in circles around her poor mind. Kala stepped forward into the forest, her eyes narrowed with a look of determination.
She would find some sort of feral, whether she had to smoke them out or not!

At a glance, the choice of name for this forest fit rather well, referencing the rather prominent trees of two distinct variations. It was no wonder why such a place would be a popular spot both for tourists and nomads alike, offering everything the average traveler could want. It held an ample supply of food, shelter under the trees was readily available, and the natives were known for being relatively friendly. It seemed tame, at least compared to some other popular places, and it was nice to look at on top of it all. With all this going for Applepine Forest, how could anyone possibly find a reason to hate it? And more importantly, why would someone of such a mindset dare set foot here in the first place? Simply put, one with such a disdain toward nature that they would prefer society over even the most pleasant of natural areas would probably avoid places such as forests. But alas, Indria was in an annoying situation in which her preference against the filth of the outside world directly conflicted with her best interest, and in the end, she chose to cater to the latter.
Being a leafeon, most would likely assume for her to have a love of nature when in fact, this was nowhere near true. She had chosen this evolution for the unique convenience and advantages it offered, not because she enjoyed frolicking outside the boundaries of society. She despised having to travel herself, as it always ended in her getting dirty to some extent, usually brought her into social situations, and sometimes even put her in danger. Of course, this was no different for anyone else; she was by no means special in this regard, but she disliked it all far more than most. In specific, she hated being contaminated by the filth of "nature," as she put great value in her appearance and worked hard to keep herself looking as clean and presentable as possible. Any amount of exposure to the "exploring" that was so popular among the masses was destined to give one a certain... rugged look, or at least, she certainly thought so. Because of this, she preferred sending someone else to run errands and travel on behalf of her, which usually worked out. This, however, was not a situation she felt comfortable entrusting anyone else to handle.
So, what was so important that a politician needed to come all the way out to the wilderness, lonesome and bitter about the whole thing? She was looking for her personal guard, one whom was very important to her. A member of the exclusive class of experiments known as "Type: Null," this guard was Indria's only true success in this specific field and thus was very important to her research endeavors. It was her job to make sure the experiment didn't draw any unnecessary attention, but alas, this was just what it had been doing as of late. Going around getting into fights and making itself a bit too known to the world, it was doing the exact opposite of what the leafeon deemed to be safe. She had tried to simply keep silent at first, hoping this behavior would taper off, but it seemed to be continuing with no signs of stopping. So far, no innocents had been harmed, but she wasn't sure how much she trusted the judgment of the animated creature. She didn't consider it to be evil, but more... childish, lacking higher understanding of some things such as right and wrong.
"Kala," Indria called out with a lack of effort, hoping for her bodyguard to somehow magically appear without making her holler. She was confident Kala was here, as it wasn't exactly the most covert 'mon in the world and thus was fairly easy to locate. She just didn't know exactly where, which, knowing her luck, meant she would probably have to venture throughout the entire forest. Nonetheless, she was motivated enough to search until she found the clueless little killing machine, as she was worried about her... Kala didn't know enough to function alone in the world and remain safe, which was perhaps Indria's fault for avoiding guiding her whenever possible. She was just so clueless, it was painful to speak to her at times. Still, that didn't mean she deserved to end up getting into trouble all because she didn't know what she was and wasn't supposed to do.
...It. Indria tried to remind herself that the creature was an experiment and her primary reason for looking for it was that it was extremely important to her own goals. She didn't want it to get in trouble with law enforcement as that would then put her in danger as well, and she needed the sample of artificial life to fuel her research into extending natural life. Eventually, she hoped to learn the secrets of immortality, and for that, she needed Kala. That was definitely her only reason for looking for the troublesome... child. Surely. She definitely didn't just feel lonely and worried and want to see one of the few individuals in the world she was somewhat close with.

Kino
From the first she'd heard about this forest, Kino had been fascinated by it. The growth of apple trees and pine trees together was probably really rare, and an unheard of combination for the Umbreon. She knew of deciduous forests and pine forests and rainforests, but definitely not of what was called the Applepine Forest. At least, until now.
Currently, the Umbreon was weaving her way through a relatively dense part of the area, climbing over the roots of ancient trees and pushing through the thick undergrowth. She'd come here to see for herself this strange forest, and the surprising beauty of it had drawn Kino inside. She did prefer a more open place, but the darker parts of the forest were compensating for her love of darkness, at least a little. That, and the apples that Kino could see in the apple trees looked delicious, and she decided that as long as she was here she was going to snack on one.
But for now, the apples would have to wait. Kino was still in a mood to explore a little longer, and of course she had to factor that there was no way to climb the apple trees in her immediate area. So the Umbreon pushed the thought of them to the back of her mind, instead focusing on navigating past a tree with particularly tangled roots. As Kino cleared the last one, movement caught her eyes. Curious yet on alert, the Umbreon moved to see what she had noticed. Suffice to say she was rather surprised to see a familiar face - or in this case, mask. She'd spotted Kala, whom she'd teamed up with briefly in the Bibliotheca Amaranthine.
Of course, even though it felt to Kino like she was hidden at the moment, her markings could give her away, a beacon against her dark pelt. The Umbreon was aware of this and couldn't do much about it; however, instead of simply revealing herself Kino felt like observing Kala for a little longer.
Despite the call of Indria, Kala had failed to hear. She was in the midst of picking her way through the forest carefully, on full alert for any potential feral that might have appeared. What the monster had noticed, was the soft sound of paws and the distinct glow of yellow rings in the darkness. Her eyes had snapped towards the faint glow with a sharp movement of her head.
She could not see the features of the strange creature, but she could immediately put together that the creature was an Umbreon. She did not know if there was any other creature with rings against such a dark pelt, but she knew "Umbreon" from her encounter in that ever so strange library.
Immediately, she was on guard. She said nothing as she took a step back from the creature. Kino may have felt like observing her, but Kala had spotted her easily with the strange coloration that did not at all blend with the browns and greens of the forest. What she could not see, was the features of the umbreon. She could not identify Kino as the same umbreon she had met, so common sense had instructed her to be cautious. She lowered her head and narrowed her eyes, prepared to attack if the pokemon had revealed itself to be "feral" or friendly. She wanted to portay herself as "intimidating", so that if it WAS feral, then it might attack her. If it attacked her, she could get some experience and train. If it was not a feral, then it would know not to mess with her, right?
She still did not quite understand what the difference was, but last time the feral had simply told her that it was feral. Maybe this one would too?
"Who's there?" she questioned with a tone more akin to a demand, her voice echoed in the helm that restrained her power.
The forest seemed quiet and boring thus far, but perhaps that was for the best, given Indria wanted nothing to do with anyone or anything within except the overgrown child she had come to find. While having someone friendly to ask for directions certainly would have been convenient, she was fine with the alternative of having no help as this also meant she wouldn't have to tolerate anyone. More importantly, though, no new faces meant no trouble, and she was very much okay with that. She wasn't afraid by any means, but having to deal with some brute trying to attack or harass her seemed annoying and time-consuming. After all, she had better things to do with her time than humor the aggression of filthy natives. Namely, she wanted to find Kala, and having to deal with any conflict would delay her efforts.
As the leafeon walked through the forest, a mixture of boredom and annoyance in her expression, her ears picked up a sound in a nearby patch of shrubbery. Immediately, she turned toward the source of the noise with her guard up, but allowed herself to relax after waiting a moment and having nothing come out to attack her. Just before she could continue onward, however, she felt something tickling her left ear. She flicked her ear in instinct, but thought nothing of it... until something dropped right down on her head, at which point she promptly flipped. After a brief gasp, she spoke up in as polite a tone as she could muster: "Get... OFF!" Alright, so maybe she could have been a bit nicer about it, but she didn't like being touched, especially by something that had presumably been outside amongst the filth all day. Whatever was touching her was now surely transmitting its filth to her perfectly groomed head, which was absolutely unacceptable.
"OFF, OFF, OFF!" she shouted at the vile critter, beginning to flail around and shake her head wildly as she did so. Whatever the attacker was, it was stubborn, keeping its grip on her head no matter how hard she tried to get it to let go. The act of spinning and shaking so violently quickly got the best of Indria, causing her to lose her footing and fall to the ground as a spell of dizziness overcame her. As if for good measure, her head slammed into the ground, worsening her condition. "UUUUUUUUHG," she made a noise somewhere between a groan and a growl as she lay on the ground, defeated. Then, just when she'd given up on trying to get her perpetrator off of her, it suddenly decided to simply leave on its own. The little legs of the creature crawled over the leafeon's face and onto the ground in front of her, allowing her to clearly see it as nothing more than a spinarak. It skittered off in a hurry, appearing eager to get away from her, which she was completely fine with.
Now that she was on the filthy ground, her fur ruined, her head aching and her pride damaged, Indria decided to just stay down. It wasn't dreadfully uncomfortable and there was no reason to get up, as far as she was concerned. "I hate everything," she muttered to herself, wondering how she was so different from the average leafeon. Wasn't she supposed to enjoy nature, given her species was pretty much part plant and tranquil by nature? She was literally built to live outside; she could even "eat" sunlight, yet it just wasn't appealing to her. Well, sunlight was kind of nice, but other than that, she didn't see what the huge appeal was in places like this.

Kino
Kino knew it had been wishful thinking to hope she'd stay hidden, but she had been hoping not to be spotted so quickly. "Me," she replied, and with a small "oh-well" sigh, the umbreon slipped out of her hiding spot so that she was in full view of Kala. She didn't go right up to the type-null, however, having noticed the larger pokemon's not-so-relaxed stance. It wasn't that Kino was afraid of type-null or caught up in the stereotypes surrounding them, but that she didn't know Kala very well and was wary of the fact that she might be attacked if she wasn't recognized.
"So, what brings you here?" Kino asked the question after a moment's pause, mostly out of lack for a better thing to do at the moment, although perhaps being civil would cause the null to calm down a little. From here, Kino would've waited for a response if a sound had not caught her ears. It was faint, probably coming from a ways away, but it was gone as soon as she'd heard it. She stared at where she believed it to have come from, ears pricked, for a few moments before she started to think she may have imagined the sound. Just to check, she turned back to Kala and aksed, "Did you hear that?"
The creature had revealed itself, the strange blue lights drew closer as the shape of the creature was revealed to her. A familiar voice rang clear as Kala's mind was brought back to the strange library she had visited for the sake of new moves. The Type:Null had recognized the Umbreon and relaxed ever so slightly. She was still wary, curious as to why the umbreon had attempted stealth on her in the first place. Was there something she suspected the null of or was the umbreon itself up to something? She was not sure, but she knew better than to come out and question it right away...or rather more like she was immediately distracted from her question by another question from the umbreon.
The umbreon desired to know what she was doing here. The Type:Null stood a bit taller as she spoke without pause in giving the directive she had come here for, "I heard that there had been dangerous pokemon known as 'ferals' afoot. I desired strength and my trainers had instructed me to fight someone else as they had grown tired of training me. So I had tried that, but was then told to go fight Ferals rather than civilians that accepted the challenge, so I went to search for ferals several times before I was eventually brought to here."
It was quite a mouthful to explain, but Kala had figured a whole story was a better than, "I came here to train myself." or something of that sort.
It seemed as if the umbreon had heard something, but the Type:Null had been oblivious to the noise. The null's head tilted ever so slightly to the side as she looked down at the umbreon in confusion, "Hear what?"

For what felt like longer than what it was, Indria simply lay on the ground in annoyance with the world for not simply giving her what she desired. She wondered why she even wanted to find the big oaf in the first place, figuring that it would only bring her further annoyance. She stared up at the trees blocking out the light, making them appear as simple a simple hindrance rather than a sight of beauty. After all, sunlight was of benefit, not trees, so she had no reason to enjoy the company of a tree. She also had no reason to enjoy other plants, or wildlife, or the filthy ground she was laying on, or anything else. Well, perhaps there were a few things she genuinely enjoyed, but that list was rather small and most certainly did not include anything she was currently experiencing. The only feeling she held toward this environment, as with all other environments outside her comfort zone, was contempt.
Then again, she felt contempt toward most things, so this was of no particular surprise. Still, she especially hated things that required for her to work or go into the wilderness, and this did both. Granted, she didn't really NEED to do this, but she felt it was in her own best interest to find her pest and make sure it didn't become someone else's pest, if it hadn't already. This, of course, begged the question of why she was sitting on the ground doing nothing. The answer was simple: she no longer viewed finding her... creature as enough of a priority to put it above all else. After having been assaulted by nature, she simply wished to take a moment to relax, or at least try to. She was getting very sick of the outside world very fast, but alas, it was in her interest not to turn back quite yet. Thus, she would continue, but on her own time after deciding her rest was long enough.
Despite her initial reservation, she found the forest floor to be relatively comfortable, at least once she got used to the idea of laying in filth. She still didn't necessarily like the thought of it, but she had managed to suppress it a bit so as to attempt to enjoy her time on the ground. Staring up at the trees, light barely shining through the gaps that appeared and disappeared as the wind blew the leafy limbs around, at was almost decent. If not for the fact that she had been viciously attacked by a pest just moments prior, perhaps she would have even enjoyed it. Her head still ached, which prompted her to close her eyes and wait for the pain to subside. She rolled onto her side in order to get into a more comfortable position, but thankfully, she didn't need to do much to make the ground tolerable to lay on; the grass did that job well enough. She tried to remember her goal, but her natural desire to do nothing began to get the best of her as her mind slowly calmed itself. All the troubles of her day simply faded away, her mind becoming a haze as it neared sleep...
KALA KORZINA, Kino OOC: There, I took a long time too so you guys don't have to feel self-conscious. Don't expect me to make my posts any shorter though.

Kino
For a few moments longer, Kino focused on trying to pick up any more sounds, but then she shook her head and turned back to the type:null. Considering only she had heard something, Kino decided to chalk up the noise as a product of her imagination and subsequently not worry about it.
Belatedly, Kino realized Kala had answered her earlier question. "So basically you're here to train," the umbreon stated, more to herself than to the other pokemon. Frankly, Kino had no idea why the null couldn't have just said that instead of the longer version that she hadn't being paying much attention to (for reasons), but, well, the last time she checked she wasn't the null, so... that was that thought filed away.
"If you'd like, I'm willing to spar with you," Kino found herself saying before she had time to really think about her words. Well, she couldn't exactly back down now. "That is, assuming you aren't having great luck finding ferals." A quick glance around told Kino that the surrounding area was quiet, with little activity, so a spar was quite likely now she'd put her idea out there. The idea was starting to seem fun by this point, so Kino brought her attention back to Kala and took a slight defensive start, preparing for the option of the other pokemon agreeing to Kino's suggestion.
The umbreon seemed more interested in whatever noise she had heard, but still Kala was merely confused at what they could have possibly heard. The Null was not keen in picking up distant noise due to the helm, but she did not worry too much about it as the shining pokemon moved along with a summary of what Kala had stated.
"Affirmative," she gave a slow nod as she felt ever so slightly proud of herself at the use of the word. It might not have seemed like much to any other pokemon, but she was excited to use new words that would make her seem normal...Well, as "normal" as a Type:Null could get.
The umbreon then offered to spar herself, which had caught the Null's interest further as the eyes in the darkness of the mask seemed to light up. The last time she had "trained" with someone new that was not a "feral" was with Akaren, a Petilil she had come across in Explorer's Respite. The Type:Null had actually learned from that, so maybe this time would be like the last?
"I've been having a hard time finding Ferals, yes, but I believe it is better to fight with someone that can provide feedback." Kala had crouched as she spoke, her shoulders rolled as she focused her sights on the dark type before her. She fell silent for a few ticks of a clock before she suddenly launched herself forward with the intent to Tackle the Umbreon. She gave no warning otherwise, as the Umbreon had been the one to offer. She knew that the element of surprise was valuable, so she thought it best not to stand around and question whether or not the dark type was ready for her attack.
Despite the fact that she still had things to do, nothing seemed to matter much anymore as the leafeon lay on the forest floor. Now that she had finally been given an opportunity to relax, of course she couldn't help but partake. Admittedly, though, perhaps falling asleep had been a bit far; aside from the fact that she still had a clueless murder machine to find, she was also in a new place with no one around to protect her if something happened to attack her. Falling asleep was a bit silly with this in mind, but she felt confident that nothing in the forest would actually be particularly threatening, especially after the awkward recent meeting with the spinarak. If something dangerous were to approach, she would surely pick it up with her ears and be able to awaken herself.
Just barely after falling asleep, Indria found herself already enveloped in a vivid dream. She was dreaming of sleeping, oddly enough. More specifically, she was laying down in a large, fluffy, heart-shaped pink bed. The excessively girly attributes weren't something she was particularly fond of from a purely aesthetic perspective, but they did make her feel... spoiled. The vividness was perhaps wasted on such a basic event, but nonetheless, it was deeply pleasant to her. However, this divine bliss soon turned dark; the white walls of the room around her suddenly turned dark as she felt herself being pinned to the bed with something on top of her, unable to breathe or move. She felt the sensation of a hand pressing down on her head, pushing her face into the fluffy sheet below and further restricting her breathing. Panic began to rise as she began to fear in her dreaming state that she would die.
Then, suddenly, she awoke from her dream-turned-nightmare in a panic, leaping to her paws instinctively as if to escape the clutches of the invisible force holding her down within the dream. For a moment, she was overtaken with fear as her mind struggled to fully return to reality and process that she was safe. She began to settle down as she remembered where she was and realized that she had simply fallen asleep. Then the feeling of the hand still on her head made her lose her composition once more and shriek. She raised her front legs up and swatted above her head in an attempt to get it to release her, causing her to stumble and fall with only two legs to support her. Fortunately, in the process, she had managed to relieve herself of the creature gripping her head. She looked to see what it was, finding... a spinarak. "You..." she growled as she slowly got back up to her paws, glaring at the little creature.
This bug had ruined her rest and turned a wonderful dream into a nightmare. She wondered if it was the same one from earlier, and if so, why it was apparently eager to die. She took a moment to calm her seething anger so as to avoid overreacting and doing anything uncalled for, then she opened her mouth to speak. She found herself at a loss, however, simply staring at the little spider in awkward silence rather than saying anything. She exhaled a heavy, stressed breath, her body shaking with anger. Then, without warning, she spun around and swatted the spinarak with her tail, sending it flying into a nearby bush. It wasn't a proper attack and was nowhere near enough to actually do any real damage, but she figured it would deliver her message all the same.

Kino
Kino was not all that surprised by Kala's answer, but she was caught a little off-guard by the type:null's sudden Tackle - although, she had been prepared enough to brace for the attack as Kala slammed into her. The umbreon was knocked back, gasping as the wind was knocked from her, but she recovered enough to launch her own Tackle in retaliation. It was a badly-executed attack due to rushing into it, but hopefully, whether or not the attack hit would at least put some distance between her and Kala.
As a sort of afterthought, Kino's expression changed to what she called "puppy-dog eyes mode", directing a Baby-Doll Eyes attack towards the type:null. The umbreon reckoned that her opponent's attack was her more powerful asset, and a drop in the stat would mean less damage to her.
But, regardless of whether any of Kino's actions had an effect, she would be distracted by another series of noises originating from the same direction as the earlier sounds. The noise was different, but Kino's curiosity was suitably piqued at this point. The umbreon's ears twitched, trying to pick up more sound information, and she turned again to face the direction the noise had come from. Of course, the umbreon's loss of focus left her wide open for attack from Kala, but to Kino the spar was all but forgotten.
Her own attack had successfully landed, though a retailiation attack had been launched. Kala did not bother to try and avoid the attack and instead braced herself to take the attack. She had held her breath as she readied herself for the attack and attempted to act as if she were a powerful wall that would not be toppled. She had failed, however, as she was knocked over more akin to a domino with no partner to continue a chain. She had failed to properly balance herself and brace for the attack and now she had paid the price.
She immediately attempted to pop herself back up and turned to the Umbreon to meet the rather adorable eyes of an Umbreon. Her attack was drained as she felt the slightest bit of hesitance to attack. The normal type lifted a claw to rush forward and strike out at the opposing pokemon, but instead her claws had merely flexed as she surveyed the Umbreon's attitude rather than going in for the immediate attack.
Her sharp eyes had noticed that the Umbreon seemed distracted by something. A side of her had told her to cease her actions and inquire about what might have been bugging the dark type, but a more militant side to her spoke out the loudest as she instead moved in to take advantage of the distraction. Anger began to bellow within her, not because she was actually upset, but more of as a side effect of the move known as Rage. Her attack began to lean towards a more violent nature as she reached out to slash at the Umbreon just like she had with the Noctowl back at the strange archive of pages the two had once visited.
With the pest having been taken care of, Indria decided to get moving rather than continue resting, having learned her lesson about such things. She was effectively trading one pest for another by searching for Kala, but alas, she had to do so anyway. She picked a random direction and simply started walking, no longer desiring to waste time on things such as napping in the middle of the forest. It wasn't the worst place she had ever been to, but the natives seemed to have no concept of personal space, so she wanted to get this over with as quickly as possible. Sadly, she still had no real clues as to where her little monster may have been, which meant she had to keep wandering around aimlessly. She was fairly confident Kala was somewhere in the forest, but that didn't exactly help narrow it down much, since there was a lot of forest to go through.
As she walked along, the feeling of something falling on her head made her instinctively spin around and jerk her head forward so as to throw it off. Without even looking to see what it was, she spun once more and slashed wildly at it with her tail, sending little bits of sharp leaves flying everywhere. It was another damned spinarak, she was sure, and this time she would make it pay for touching her! However, when she finally calmed herself enough to get a look at what she'd just assaulted, she found a small stick, on the ground and cut into pieces. For a moment, she stood and stared at the murdered stick, huffing in agitation and fatigue from expending such an excessive amount of energy. Well, as far as she was concerned, that stick had gotten what it had coming to it.
"Stupid wilderness," the leafeon muttered bitterly as she turned and continued walking. The fact that there had been no spinarak this time around should have been good news, but she had overreacted to a twig and made herself look like a fool. Had there been anyone around to see, it would have been humiliating. Fortunately, she was entirely alone in this forest, at least to her knowledge. Then again, based on her experience thus far, perhaps there was a hoard of spinarak just watching her from the trees, waiting for her to let her guard down so they could contaminate her with their filth. Or, worse, perhaps they were mistaking her for an actual plant and trying to eat the leafy parts of her body! Bug-types liked plants, at least as far as she could recall... Then again, she wasn't sure if spinarak in specific were big fans of such a diet. Not that it mattered since no matter what their diet consisted of, she probably looked like a meal.

Kino
Kino's attention was rather suddenly snapped back to the fight when Kala's Rage-fueled slash hit home. A sharp hiss of pain escaped the umbreon as the wind was again knocked out of her, and since she had no time to brace for the hit she was knocked off balance, causing her to fall to the ground.
Despite being a bit dazed, Kino jumped back to her feet and almost instinctively retaliated, courtesy of a finely-honed fight-or-flight reflex one would expect her to have as a result of being a part of the military. Kino didn't really plan out her attack, but she improvised on using the speed of her Quick Attack to hopefully confuse Kala or at least disorientate the null.
Whether or not her attack hit or did anything, Kino didn't launch a follow-up attack. Instead, the shiny said, "I wish to call this spar off," trying to be as formal as possible. "I want to investigate the sounds I heard."
