KINO FULL NAME: Kino AGE: Just turned 19 BIOLOGICAL GENDER: Female MEMBER GROUP: Explorer HOME COUNTRY: Invictus OCCUPATION: Recruit POKEMON // WHAT ARE YOU? SPECIES: Umbreon ABILITY: Synchronize LEVEL: 15 EGG MOVE AND CLASS BONUS: Wish; May start at level 15 instead of level 10. DRASTIC CHANGES: Shiny OVERALL APPEARANCE Other than the fact that she's shiny, Kino is for the most part an ordinary Umbreon. Like her species, she stands at around three feet tall and has black fur with blue ring-shaped markings. Although, her fur does lean more towards being a dark grey rather than black, and her markings are a slightly lighter blue that can appear to have a silver tinge when under moonlight. Kino wears an ordinary silver cotton scarf given to her by her adoptive family. She tends to wear it all the time, and so it has a rather tattered appearance. The scarf is rather precious to Kino, however, so she refuses to get another one. She has had a rather comfortable, happy life so far, and so doesn't really have any scars to show. She does have one tiny scar at the base of her right ear that she obtained by doing a rather stupid thing back when she was younger. As a side effect of her quiet nature, Kino has a tendency to walk with quiet steps, especially when the area she's in has few or no others around. This does have a side effect of its own in that she sometimes ends up giving others a fright because they don't hear her approach. PERSONALITY // WHO ARE YOU? LIKES ✔The Night - Kino loves the dark, and not just because she's a dark-type. She also loves the stars and the moon, and whenever she has a chance she will stay up late to stare at the night sky, especially during the new and full moons. The full moon especially invigorates her, but this is more a trait of her species. Sunset is a favorite as well, something about the beautiful colors the sun paints the sky during this time makes her feel alive, plus it means the day is getting darker. ✔The Cold - Warm weather bothers her, and she especially hates humid weather. She can handle dry heat, but she much prefers when it's cold. Others might think she's crazy for going outside when she can stay cozy and warm inside, but she doesn't really care if that's the case. She does dislike it when it's a chilly, nippy cold, however, as it is constantly biting into her and making her shiver. Her preferred cold is when it is a crisp, steady cold. Obviously, her favorite seasons as a result are Autumn and Winter. ✔Quiet Places - Silence is one of Kino's most valuable treasures. She can sit in a place of pure silence for a long time, simply listening to the soft sounds of the wind and other sounds, or just the stillness of everything if there is no wind present. She loves it, and tends to get extremely irritated if her quiet spot is compromised. ✔Citrus - If lemons existed in this world, Kino would love them because of their wonderful sourness. Instead she settles on sour-tasting berries, although she won't eat them as a treat and will mostly suck the juice or make the pokemon equivalent of lemonade. Bonus points if the sour berry is edible. DISLIKES ✖Crowds and Noisy Places - She can handle these for a short while, but she hates them quite a bit. They are the opposite of her enjoyment of silence, and when the noise gets to loud it hurts her ears and prevents her from hearing herself or her thoughts. She also hates how she has to shout in order to speak when there's noise around her. As a result of this dislike she also doesn't like being around talkative pokemon for too long. ✖Attention - Kino hates it when the attention is on her. She'll avoid the spotlight wherever possible, even if it means losing out on an opportunity or not signing up for stage acts, etcetera. She gets nervous when put in the spotlight, and although she isn't planning on breaking down from the pressure, she will want to get out of the spotlight as soon as possible. ✖Warm Weather - Her reason for liking the cold more. Kino finds the heat stifling and oppressive, and it de-energizes her as a result. Having dark fur doesn't help, as it absorbs the heat and makes her feel the heat more than most. ✖Sweet and Spicy Foods - Although she likes some sweet foods, most of the time even thinking about sweet flavors makes her feel ill. It's just too sugary for her liking. Sitting right besides sweet foods are spicy foods. The moment food gets past slightly-tiny-pinch-of-spicy Kino will probably not eat it at all because it burns her mouth and throat too much. HABITS ►Thinking Aloud and Walking In Circles - When she's absorbed in her thoughts, Kino has a tendency to think aloud. If she's not sitting or lying down comfortably or if she's feeling energetic when she does this, she'll end up walking in a circle because she can't stand still and because walking in squares is for triangles (and counter-intuitive). Even if she tried, she'd probably end up walking in a circle without really registering that she's doing it. And her habit works backwards, too. If she's bored in general or bored while waiting for someone, she'll often end up pacing a circle, which can lead to her getting absorbed in her thoughts and thinking aloud. ►Fidgeting - She can't sit completely still for long periods of time, which vary depending on how focused or interested she is. She can sit around no problem, but she'll end up fidgeting and doing things like scraping her paws across the ground or digging up the grass around her if there is any. ►Holding Ears Back - When nervous, Kino tends to hold her ears back. She doesn't pin them down, but they're not perked or in the standard position. It's not a very noticeable habit, but Kino can feel the difference when she does it. She sometimes even does this subconsciously, even when she's not feeling nervous. FEARS ►Nothing Really - Kino doesn't consider herself to be 'scared' by anything by her definition of the word, which is 'hiding from or trying to avoid your fears'. But she's far from being fearless; rather she considers certain things as 'making her feel nervous'. ►Death - Not so much a fear as a worry that she'll die before she's done everything that she wants to do. Being cautious and having an imagination that sometimes runs off on her just adds fuel to the fire. ►Going too far underground or underwater - Kino is claustrophobic in situation like these, and if she's forced to go into areas like these she'll start to panic and want out. She is okay with going a short distance into a cave so long as it is spacious. OVERALL Quiet & Observant - Kino's major identifying characteristic is her quiet nature. However, she's quiet in that she simply prefers to listen and observe, and only put in her two cents if the topic sparks her interest; she's not quiet in the antisocial way and aloof way. She's also not quiet in the way that leads to only speaking when necessary; she can actually get quite talkative when she's with friends. There are times when Kino prefers to be alone, without even having too many others out and about in the same area as her. She is perfectly happy being on her own, as she doesn't feel the need to make emotional bonds with others - although, she still enjoys making them. Her quietness also makes her observant. Realistic Optimist - Like milk is to coffee and water is to plants, Kino is to a positive attitude. No matter how tough things get, chances are Kino won't be down about it for long. Granted, she hasn't exactly had a hard life so far, but she likes to think that if something harsh happened to her that she'd bounce back pretty quickly. It says a lot about her willpower as well, but unlike her positivity it isn't infallible. She will always look on the bright side of things, and has a tendency to always look at the good side of others. And, like sandpaper to skin or claws to a chalkboard, she gets irritated with pessimists as a result of this optimism. Friendly & Humorous - Kino is friendly to others and is always willing to lend a paw - provided that she's not going to end up doing something she doesn't want to or not in the mood for it. She can be rather rude at times, but only pokemon who are close to her are really going to see that side to her. She gets very quiet around strangers, and tends to be vague with them when it comes to personal information. And she has a wonderful sense of humor, and can be quite good at making witty statements, not to mention her puntasticness when she has an opportunity to. Slight Social Awkwardness - In conversation, Kino has a small tendency to make the conversation about herself. It isn't a big thing and it doesn't happen often, but it comes as a result of her shyness when it comes to asking questions and her tendency to ask short-answer questions rather than long-answer questions. She also struggles when it comes to determining another's body language, though she can read all of the obvious gestures. When it comes to sensitive topics, Kino can get awkward, as she worries that she'll end up saying the wrong things. Stubborn - Stubbornness is one of Kino's major flaws. She is mostly open-minded about it, but her pride can lead to her sticking to her side of an argument even if she's wrong. When she's nervous, her stubbornness does take a bit of a dive when it comes to the hard-hardheadedness of it, but the stubbornness remains. Ironically, others being stubborn can end up being one of the things that irritates her. Easily Irritated - As mentioned, Kino gets irritated rather easily, even for rather trivial things. She has taught herself tricks for keeping it under control over the years, because snapping at everybody for small things wasn't going to benefit her. She'll still sometimes snap at others, but most of the time she can keep this to a justifiable reason. Strangely, she seldom gets mad mad, and more often sticks to mildly angry. Some of the things that irritate her include when others keep asking her the same or similar questions, asking her to explain herself a second time, bugging her when she's absorbed in her thoughts, having her silence disturbed, and so on. Laid-back & Passive - Another one of Kino's flaws is her laid-back nature. It sits more on the middle ground between good and bad personality, but Kino is also laid-back in a way that can lead to her being rather passive about everything along with the usual "chill" attitude. Even if she was made to be more than neutral about something, she will mostly not really do anything about it. She can be rather uncaring of things that don't involve her, and she doesn't do empathy well; but she's definitely not heartless. Most of this is because she is a logical thinker, preferring to follow her brain rather than her heart. Strangely enough, despite being a logical thinker, Kino is terrible at strategy and prefers to improvise. And she's good at it, too. Analyst & Philosopher - Finally, Kino loves to analyze and compare herself to others, but not because of her self-esteem. Rather, her curiosity. She loves to compare herself to others because she loves seeing how others thinks differently to each other. She can be very philosophical at times, adapting other's advice or good habits into her life if she likes it. She lives in the moment, not letting herself get trapped in the past or too focused on the future. HISTORY // BUT WHY? Seventeen years ago, a young Eevee watched as a fire blazed through her home, turning everything the flames touched black with charcoal. She was the only known survivor; her biological parents died in the fire and her brother had gone missing the day earlier. But Kino was too young to truly remember the events or understand what was happening; most of what she knows is what others have told her. When the aftermath of the fire had calmed down, the young Eevee was sent to an orphanage, where she was looked after and cared for for a few years. She was happy, but she was way happier when she had a new family to call home. Kino hit off near instantly with her adopted family. She might have never called them her mother and father, but they were close. An Absol and Delcatty, Noel and Caesuro. They were rather nomadic during Kino's younger years, travelling around and doing odd jobs. Noel did work for the military at the time, but his job allowed him the space to travel with his family. When Kino was eight, her family decided it was time to settle down. Noel retired from the military, claiming that his bones were too old for that kind of work. Caesuro opened a tea shop in the city, which became rather popular and attracted lots of customers, generating enough income to live comfortably on. There was this one day where Kino got lost and she met an Umbreon, Artemis, who quickly wormed her way into the family's hearts and became Kino's tutor. Artemis even inspired Kino to choose to evolve into an Umbreon, which she did a few days later (though her love for the night also influenced the decision). The only downside Kino found to no longer living a nomadic lifestyle was that she always had a yearning to go out and explore. After she decided it would be a good idea to try and explore a mystery dungeon by herself (she ended up getting her little scar and not even making it to the dungeon proper), Noel suggested she direct her energy in becoming an explorer one day. Kino liked the idea, and her interest took hold. Artemis started teaching her basic fighting techniques along with her general schooling, so that she would be able to handle dungeons with more ease than one who has never fought in a real battle before. Time passed, and soon Kino was ready to set off and survive life on her own. Artemis gave her her silver scarf on the day she left, hand-picked by the other members of her family as a way to wish her well. She didn't join the military right off the bat, however; rather, she spent a small amount of time hanging around the town hall and observing the military members come and go, preparing herself to follow her chosen path. She eventually enrolled as a recruit explorer at the age of eighteen-and-a-few-months, where she has been up until the present day and will most likely be for her foreseeable future.
