'That which blooms last is the rarest among the rest!' To say that Tanis has been... Jumpier than what could be considered his usual demeanour is putting it mildly. That is if he could be more jumpier than he was to start with. It was already proven from their first meeting that Tanis was literally a ticking time bomb with a relatively short fuse just waiting to go off, especially considering he was inches away from striking Meadow just from the mere act of talking to him. Admittedly, at that moment, he still had his reservations about the whole ordeal, both during and after it. He promised both to her and to himself that he would at least try not to trigger himself getting angry over the mere act of just discussing something, but that alone was a real task for him to pull off, he didn't think it was going to be so tough. All the more reason why he preferred to spar when it comes to discussion, to assist curb that emotion somewhat. Still, Meadow successfully left the discussion in one whole piece, which can be considered a success. While the results of it could be construed as mixed depending on who you ask, Tanis would admit that she did leave an impact on him. Not enough that he'd go out of his way to say they were friends or some such like that, but it was enough that he'd at least recognise her from a small crowd if they were both walking by. That being said, she did seem like a Pokémon who would pick him out from an even larger crowd, and actually stop him as well. Nothing wrong with that of course, but if you had asked him post-discussion whether he considered her a friend, it would be a no. Nonetheless, it was at that time that he had bestowed upon her a Favor, in which she promptly used to have him meet her again. The way she said it made it sound like she wanted him to promise to do it rather than tell him to do so, which was a contrast difference. At first Tanis thought she was joking around and thought she was undermining the idea behind his Favors to start with. It wasn't until a little time after she left and he was relaxing on the base of the tree that he considered that maybe he didn't explain the idea correctly in a way that she understood. Even so, it was a request that she did think about and one that she did want. But perhaps not to the point that she hadn't considered the fact that she had to see him to actually tell him what she wanted him to do anyway. Tanis concluded that he'd humour the request, just this once, but ensure she had a proper understanding next time. Tanis was in no rush to actually confer that next meeting however. In fact, he was much more interested in recovering and exploring a bit more of Invictus, see what there was and if there was anything that could assist him. The following day, he spent the time traversing the main market area. As expected there were plenty of vendors peddling their wares and attempting to entice the population in making a good purchase. Although the majority of the commodities Tanis didn't have any particular use for, being a Pokémon who travels with no real need for cutlery or decorations for a home, he could see some good equipment when he saw them. He found a few stores that sold various goods, most of which he recognised as items you could specifically find in dungeons. They may not seem important to a typical citizen, but to him, he could see the real value of them. Although all he bought that day was an Apple to satiate his hunger, he made certain to try and memorize those vendors for future purchases. Beyond those shops, there were a couple of other places that held some interesting gear. One shop included bags and purses that Tanis felt could be suitable for storing items and money respectively. It would definitely be better than what he had at the moment, which was making his own bag using large leaves, grass and twigs. But he passed on the opportunity for now, considering he wasn't holding anything more than the bouquet of flowers that Meadow bestowed upon him. Within the mid'st of his travels, he did wind up discovering a few flower stores in various locations mixed in with the rest of the shops. But the one that Meadow actually spoke about: Ivysaur's Flower Shop, or something like that, was actually impossible for him to find. Not so much because he couldn't distinguish one store from the next, but more to the fact that he couldn't read the store signs and he had no idea what an Ivysaur looked like. He'd hoped instead to find Meadow working in one of the stores, but he didn't have any such luck on that day. The second day after their initial meeting, he was traversing the forest near the city since his arm had effectively recovered minus some lingering pain and the remnants of his burn. Both were nothing in comparison to how they were a few days prior, so he was comfortable walking around without any bandage or the like on it. More-over, he was hoping he might get himself into a small scrap with a willing Pokémon since he'd been lacking in just that for that same duration of time. He had no intentions of meeting up with Meadow that day either. How he managed to hear the commotion that Lucifer and Meadow were making in the otherwise quiet woods was anyone's guess, the woods are not exactly a small place. In fact, he wasn't even aware that Meadow was even remotely involved with that commotion until he saw the scene that had transpired himself. There was no way he could resist the battle potential, even if there was more suitable reasons to get himself involved. Prior to that skirmish, he didn't think too much of Meadow as a battler, in large part because he had not seen her in action more than any other reason. He did surmise that she may perhaps be too light-hearted to fight herself: As someone who called him out for preparing an attack and exclusively tried to avoid diving headlong into an unwanted fight. He was sure that logic made sense to someone out there, but as he proved on that day, Tanis was more than willing to jump into an awaiting fight with open arms without any hesitation. In fact, it was Lucifer who didn't seem keen on a battle... Yet still wanted his way in ending Meadow's life. So much for the well-thought out plans. Not that Tanis' was much better, though it turned out better than his at the end of it all. Regardless of that fact, Meadow proved herself that she has a spark of aggression to her name than she first seems to let on, and she's perfectly capable of holding her own. That being said, Tanis could see a single fatal flaw with what she could do. He did recall her saying that she commonly blacks out whenever she uses her electric attacks, but he didn't think it was quite that severe. Not that he really had any right to discuss anyone blacking out, considering he did the same thing prior to taking that Future Sight attack. There's just no right answer! But he fully respected her for defending herself from a situation that was literally a life or death situation for the both of them, though more Meadow than it was for Tanis. Despite what she thought or how she felt, alongside battling through a debilitating and crippling injury, she fought with all she had, and she was rewarded appropriately with not only escaping Lucifer's deadly clutches, but also with a free ride back to Invictus which had become an otherwise serious problem once she had broken her foot. That wasn't what Tanis had in mind at first when he leapt to the rescue, as he intended to fight Lucifer to its conclusion. However, with his reluctance to battle and Meadow's condition making the possibility of escape a much more intriguing prospect, discretion being the better part of valor was what won the day. He ferried her back to Invictus, after having got away, with full confidence that they made it through, especially after the noise they both heard. As the one most able, Tanis took the lead in escorting the pair of them back, that did unfortunately mean that it took them both slightly longer to do so, not because he was carrying around some additional weight, but because he was following the exact same way he came in. Which meant all the stops and twists that he took as well. This was the point in time that he admitted out-loud, and arguably to himself as well, that she was a friend to him. Anyone who could battle under adversity like that when placed under the threat of death and come out of it alive, albeit worse for wear, is always deserving of some resemblance of credit, always. Tanis will always be the first to applaud Pokémon of that calibre, and while Meadow may not be a battler, she would have a hard time convincing him that she can't fight now. No, she is a friend worthy of Tanis' respect after that performance. To deny her that would be wrong, and he would defend that courage and last stand. It's not every day that the 'prey' would verbally assault her predator the way she did, that was the first time he recalled ever seeing anyone do that. Come to think of it, there's been quite a lot of 'firsts' come out of all of this so far! With Meadow having fallen asleep, Tanis was a bit stumped as to where to actively take her prior to returning to the Invictus main gates. The only medical place he knew of was in the darker parts of the place, ironically dubbed the Slums by most circles. He didn't really want to send her there any more than he wanted to go there himself. He also didn't really know where this Flower Shop she worked at was, nor did he know where she called home either. His self-preservation vanishing at that particular moment, he opted to bite the bullet and inquired at a nearby vendor over where to find the shop, thinking that would be the fastest place to get to from there. It took a couple of tries from different Pokémon, but finally he managed to get the direction he needed. Thinking back on it, he likely would've had a faster time waking up Meadow herself and inquiring with her, but that thought never occurred to him at the time. Regardless, the directions led him straight to what he assumed was the Flower Shop. By the time he got there, the sun had set and the night sky filled the tranquillity and the stars shone in their brilliance. The Ivysaur inside the store was in the middle of closing up shop before one final pair of customers burst through the door, threatening to dismantle the bell off its hinges as it rung to signal their arrival. The look that Tanis got from the Ivysaur was nothing short of what he was expecting, if he was being honest with himself. He was actually a little more amazed the Grass type didn't just snatch Meadow from him at that moment, perhaps that was a feeling within him that wanted to, Tanis honestly didn't know. He skipped the pleasantries and skipped straight to the actual injury. Tanis informed Ivysaur about the broken foot, unsure of how it happened, as it occurred after Tanis arrived at the scene, and that there was a white-furred Pokémon with a scythe on his head threatening to kill her. The talk effectively ended at that moment, as Ivysaur claimed Meadow from Tanis' back with his vines and ushered him outside. That, for all intents and purposes, was the end of his part in Meadow's escape act. For better or for worse, Tanis played no actual part in overseeing Meadow with her foot recovery. The following day, he saw to it that he repaid his debt to the vendor that assisted in giving him directions. This saw him go back to the woods for the second day in a row to gather up nuts of a particular description, which were apparently needed for the vendor's craft, and would be the Favor he would perform to repay the vendor. This did ironically send him back to the scene of the crime where the skirmish had taken place. Despite the obvious signs of there having been a fight here, there was no other sign of anyone involved being there anymore. Definitely no Meadow, but more importantly, no Lucifer. Obviously he had gone off to go find that mark he admitted to hunting after the pair ran off. That was a shame, he did want to perhaps fight him again for a spar with the risk of death off the table, he felt the dark type was competent of a battler, when he was actually bothered to actually fight. Clearly his motivations were more difficult to discern than Tanis would like to admit to. But not all was lost. The bag and flowers that he left behind were still perched on top of the large rock wall where he had first entered the scene. Unfortunately being out in the sun for an entire day without anything to keep them protected or otherwise did little to keep the flowers any more alive. That would have to be something he'd have to sort out when he got some time to himself. But it did also mean he could carry more of those nuts now. He didn't give any further thought to the aftermath of the battle, and he continued on his trek to find more of the nuts before heading back. With his Favor fulfilled that evening, he took the opportunity to head back to the Flower Shop, in large part because he was curious to see how Meadow was doing now that she's had a day to partially recover. A broken foot, he didn't think, would take a single day to get over if his burned and injured arm had anything to say about it. Regardless, he entered the store to once again meet the Ivysaur that was tending it at the time. Without a lack of urgency or anything more than partially wilting flowers on his back, there was more appropriate time to go into more proper detail as to what actually happened. Tanis didn't know if Meadow told Ivysaur the whole story, or if he genuinely didn't actually know. Regardless, Tanis told the grass type what he knew after his initial inquiry of how Meadow was fell on deaf ears. Ivysaur was much more interested in hearing his side of things before parlaying information about Meadow. Tanis didn't mind as such, while he didn't know too much about him exactly, he did know Meadow held him on high regard, if nothing else, plus this was the Pokémon he bought Meadow to, so naturally he'd want to know what actually happened. He felt like he owed the grass type that much, so, that's exactly what he did. He recited what he could recall, which was mostly what happened during the battle, and not overlooking Meadow's contribution to it of course. He couldn't remember a great deal of the conversation Meadow and Lucifer had while Tanis was holding onto his Solarbeam, as it sounded a bit too complex for him, if he was being honest about it. The mistake he made over the explanation however, was when he called Lucifer out as an Outlaw, and Lucifer retorting back that it took one to know one. Although nothing happened at first, and despite getting thanks for explaining the situation, and informing him of Meadow's condition, he was asked to leave immediately, seemingly for no actual reason. Tanis never got a reason for why, he when he probed Ivysaur for a reason, he was only ushered out. This left him standing outside facing the door, with Ivysaur peering back at him from inside. All Tanis did was scratch his head and sigh, well, that could've gone better he guessed. Without any more fuss, he left, marking the end of that encounter. The moment seemingly forgotten by the time the next day rolled around, Tanis continued about his business like usual without any more fanfare or any more instigation over the matter. He tried to see Meadow, and he got rejected, so as far as he was concerned, that was seemingly the end of it as far as he was concerned. So he went about his days continuing to look around and roam around the outskirts of Invictus in vain hopes of finding something that would assist him. Compared to Meadow's own injuries, his own barely took a full day to fully recover from, so he was comfortable enough to venture out for so long. It wasn't until a few days later, past the evening hours and towards the late night, that he would once again come across Ivysaur. Or more precisely, he found Tanis. At that point, Tanis had wandered around aimlessly and what others would classify as 'lost' for the best part of a day and a half at that point. Though in an ironic twist of fate, Ivysaur found him within the better part of half an hour. Tanis didn't know he was fair at first, so got caught by surprise when he suddenly found his right arm wrapped up in a vine and trying to bring him closer towards what he eventually discovered to be the very Ivysaur that tracked him down. Despite attempts however, Tanis' paws were not specifically designed to be dragged quite so willingly, especially when he still had three of them tethered to the ground. Though he was scraping across the floor simply through Ivysaur's strength, it would easily take a great deal more for him to get dragged across enough to be next to the grass type. " You know how difficult you are to find?" Ivysaur queried, not so much angry more than he was winded, not as young as he used to be to be trekking after someone in the wilderness. Tanis retorted back at him, not at all amused by these antics. " ... I'm sure you tell me..." Tanis thought that he had a fight on his paws, but as it would turn out, he was completely wrong. Though what he did wind up getting was not what he was expecting by any stretch of the imagination. Ivysaur retracted his vine after expressing he wanted a word with Tanis, and he wasn't taking no for an answer. But he started speaking before Tanis had any opportunity to object to the notion. Through admittance that Tanis would consider as him being senile or some other reason that escapes logic as far as he was concerned, Ivysaur came to him to apologize for his actions. He heard Meadow's side of the encounter with Lucifer, which corroborated and synced with what Tanis told him, alongside how she felt about all that happened. He also admitted that despite Tanis being an Outlaw, not only had he admitted it himself, but everything he had done prior, and since, has been a direct opposite of the definition of a described Outlaw. No Outlaw saves a citizen, no Outlaw goes out of their way to return them, and no Outlaw does nothing from being thrown out of somewhere. Ivysaur admitted he acted purely on the fact of hearing the word 'Outlaw', and wasn't taking into consideration everything else. Though he also admitted he still wasn't convinced that Tanis isn't a bad Pokémon... Not yet. In spite of that, he re-granted access to his shop to Tanis, and that he wouldn't stop him from seeing Meadow, though he would be keeping close tabs on him in the meanwhile. He concluded his confession with an apology for his unjust behaviour, his thanks for helping Meadow when it was needed, and a final question about where the flowers on his back came from. Tanis looked behind himself, where the bouquet, easily 70% of it having been diminished and wilted at this point and removed from the rest of them, remained slung on his back and empowering him with the remainder of their fragrance before they diminish completely. He turned back to Ivysaur after a few seconds and responded. " From a friend. There a problem?" The pair shared an exchange of glances that may appear as though one of them may go after the other at any moment. However, Ivysaur breaks the tension by looking down, closing his eyes and smirking to himself. He confirmed that there was no problem, he was just curious, and left the matter at that. Upon which, Ivysaur left, presumably to return back home for the night. Overall, Tanis had mixed feelings about the whole situation, it sounded like he was being forgiven, but not at the same time? He didn't like it... - The weather had made a direct impact to the land of Invictus. Throughout the entire week, sunny spells and a light wind were the only break from the norm that threatened the peace and tranquillity that were the citizenry, not that it was doing a very good job of it. Many Pokémon, Tanis included, have taken full advantage of its light-granting qualities and have performed their various businesses, whether it be shopping, seeing friends or getting out there and exploring the world. Today however has made a change from all of that. Cloud has flooded the skies and the sunlight only treacled down through the cracks for very short spurts that literally only last a minute at most. Grey and murky, yet there has not been any rain throughout the entire day. How much longer that would last, it was difficult to say. The wind was definitely threatening that it could be approaching fast, granting the clouds swift movement in the skies as a sharp chill amidst the strong winds that gale'd the entire town. It made its presence felt, as there were a definite decrease in the amount of Pokémon around the main square and the markets. Either expecting rain, and didn't want to get caught in it, or just didn't bother and waiting for a different day. Those that braved the otherwise change of weather were rewarded by having to wear something to compensate for the sudden temperature change. How long this was due to last, no-one could really say, perhaps only when the clouds dispersed and the sun comes out again. The one Pokémon who was desperately hoping that it wouldn't rain, however, was Tanis. Against all sorts of odds that could be conceived on the idea that it might rain, he is once again out and about, braving the elements for the sake that is not specifically for himself, but instead for repaying a Favor. He had kept away in order to appease Ivysaur, and that would be his excuse should it be asked of him, but the reality is simply because this was the first actual day he's had when he hasn't been stupidly galivanting around doing something else. This was in large part because of the weather change, which he'd admit to. The other is that he was seriously starting to get a touch concerned that he hadn't seen Meadow floating around somewhere... Probably gifting flowers to another Pokémon for all he knew. This Favor of hers had actually turned out to be a really good boon for him in regards to satiating that curiosity, as he has an actual reason to see her rather than for his own lofty purposes. The real big question to ask is whether he would come see her anyway if it wasn't for the purposes of returning a Favor. ... That's a really good question! He did strongly debate against even coming down today anyway for the single reason that it had been threatening to rain all day today, and continued to do so even now. The simple fact of the matter is that he normally wouldn't have done. However, he'd been feeling a little guilty about having not fulfilled the Favor yet, even though there have been plenty of reasons and excuses that could be made to explain why he hadn't. None of which are really good ones, and if he had time to make up an excuse for his inaction, then he's got the time to act! Hence why he's braving his own sanity here this horrible evening to correct that error. This would be the evening he would fulfil his end of the deal and bring him back to even with her. He did briefly consider their meeting in the forest as his 'meeting', and hence the Favor would be paid in full with that. He wouldn't deny the prospect of calling that him returning the Favor, and Meadow could very well argue the idea that him saving her could also be considered him paying back his debt. However, the Favor was to meet up again, and presumably to discuss something or other with questions that she admitted she had before darting off to be somewhere else. That was the deal, and by all rights, it had not yet been fulfilled. Sadly, he hasn't had the opportunity to run across her while roaming around Invictus so far, likely because she may still be recovering from her foot injury and may be taking some time to get back to putting weight on it again before venturing outside. That or he's absolutely dreadful and purposely coming across Pokémon he's trying to find without knowing where they're going, both are equally viable options. The one thing that he was hoping was not the case, was that she had locked herself away inside and refused to go outside in fear that she's going to get immediately ripped apart by someone else who wants her dead for some unexplained reason. Even with the time spent in the afterglow of what transpired between the three Pokémon that were involved in that situation, he still didn't fathom the logic behind that Dark type's reasoning to killing Meadow. Tanis was likely thinking too much into the matter after it happened, but the conclusion that he reached was that there was an ulterior motive beyond just wanting to kill and eat Meadow. Tanis isn't a Carnivore, and nor has he hunted prey for that purpose before, so he's only truly speculating for the true purpose of the so-called 'Nature'. But from what he did understand of the basic principles behind it: You're supposed to chase and kill your prey outright so you can start eating. It's basic survival, especially in the wilderness, you try to expend as little energy as you can killing your prey, and not let them get away by being too conservative. Use up too much energy, and what you ultimately gain from the kill isn't enough to satiate, similarly, not using enough, and you lose your prey, and you get no meal. By the time Tanis actually played any sort of role with intervening the whole thing, who knows how long that whole thing lasted. Yet Meadow was effectively incapacitated, and was crying out for him to go away, or some other resolution besides what he was going to do. But that was the whole problem that Tanis bore witness to: He made no actual moves against Meadow that indicated that he actually wanted to kill her, despite the fact he claimed numerous times like some sort of repeating record that he was going to do so. No, he wanted something else out of all of that, something that Tanis didn't know. Maybe Meadow knew? He didn't consider the option to ask, not that he was planning to adhere to anything the dark type wanted regardless. After all, if he wasn't going to fight for his 'meal', yet his 'meal' and her follower wanted to, then that's an automatic loss for him. He was simply too stubborn to admit it. He didn't feel sorry for ditching the guy after striking him with his Solarbeam, if anything, he should be grateful that was all Tanis did in the end. Either way, Tanis only spent that night considering the matter, and then simply let it go. He didn't feel the need to intervene with this mark or whatever it was he was doing. Besides, Tanis got his 'prize' back, and despite the injury, she was alive, so there was little need. Of course, that's not to say that Meadow may or may not have done something in turn, but that was down to her, Tanis certainly wasn't going to stop her if she did. Tanis had passed by the Flower Shop a couple of times after getting thrown out initially by Ivysaur, though he didn't stop or enter the shop specifically more than he was passing by it to go somewhere else, or was wandering around to see what's nearby. Today however, his target was specifically the shop itself, which is where he stood, approximately twenty feet away from it, staring at the structure as if it was the entrance to a dungeon or something similar. The walk down, despite the conditions, actually felt pleasant. In actuality, the past couple of days has been a little more smoother than it normally was, if not just perhaps a little awkward. He didn't know just what had transpired, if anything had at all, but it felt like that he was perhaps being watched, or otherwise glanced at by the citizenry. Admittedly he has been hanging around for a while now, so perhaps the population have remembered him and are inwardly commenting to themselves that he's wandering around again. That, or they've come to realize something. Tanis had done his best to at least try to keep his nose as clean as he could muster, to try and acquire some kind of second wind within a new city. But perhaps the rumour of him being an Outlaw has spread and the citizenry are taking steps to avoid him, and perhaps whispering about him behind his back. Either that, or maybe the drama and rescue of Meadow had equally spread among the population and they're revering him? Both are equally plausible, or it's just all in his head and he's imagining it all, that's also likely. What others thought of him didn't matter to him, he did his own thing regardless of what everyone considered him. Whether he's saving someone or beating someone to a pulp, if he felt like doing it, then he's doing it, it's that simple. As 'hardcore' as he may consider himself to be, even he is someone who feels the elements, especially as someone without any fur or anything resembling warmth otherwise. Granted, his skin does grant him some protection, but that's not saying as much as a Pokémon head-to-toe in fur. So adorned around his neck is a Plain Ribbon wrapped around him like a scarf. It may seem a little fancy for someone like him, but it was all he had at the time, so that's what he's using. The ribbon is tied to him in a simple knot to stop it from going anywhere, though there is a little excess dangling on his left side, which is constantly getting caught by the wind and is flapping horizontally on his side like a cape. In a similar fashion, his two tails are also being affected, getting pushed to his left side as well as they get caught by the gusting winds. The bouquet that he had been carrying around since he acquired them have all but mostly diminished to just a few singular flowers at this junction. The Daffodils had all wilted away, and were no longer present. Only a couple of the Alstroemaria have survived the onslaught of time, though by their condition, they were not going to last. The Anthuriums had all but diminished to the point of almost looking like something completely different, but he had kept a circle of them around, because the Gebera Daisy had so far eluded the fate of its brethren and still showed signs of life. Unfortunately the Bouquet had lost its grandeur, but he has still tried to maintain it and keep its shape as best as he could. To say he succeeded would be incorrect, but marks for trying at least. Right now they were further in the leaf bag that he's sporting in front of himself as opposed to on his back, to ensure he wasn't crushing them, and kept deep within to make sure they weren't blown away by the gusts. Tanis sighed as he took small strides over towards the Flower Shop. He had been somewhat hoping that Meadow would've left the store herself, hence why he came by in the evening, but not having seen her for the past couple of minutes, he had to confess to himself that he couldn't really linger any more than he had already done so. Reluctantly, he pressed on. He knew himself about as much as anyone else knew about him, and he had a nagging feeling in the back of his mind that he would wind up in a confrontation with Ivysaur the moment he stepped into that shop. Yes, he was pardoned, and yes, the guy was grateful for his part in helping Meadow, but the animosity he felt that he got from him was... Well, Tanis felt that it was still very much there. And this was a Pokémon that Meadow knew herself. Just how badly would that really look on his Favor if she walked in and saw the pair of them fighting for some reason that Tanis likely instigated? There would be some words thrown at him alright, and he suspected they'd be coming from Ivysaur mostly. He'd have to face him eventually though, and if it was going to be right here and right now, then Tanis may as well get it over with so he could move on and try to ignore it. He wasn't going to run from this and his responsibility. If it's a fight, then he'll oblige. If it's a talk, then he'll wish he bought a pillow. With his confirmed situation set in his mind, he approached the door, giving it one final glance to his fate before pushing the door open. Was Meadow even in the store at the moment? Tanis honestly wasn't sure, but it's the only place he knows she goes to, so this was a good a place as any to start.

The circumstances of the last few weeks had been very… interesting. Well, the last few months were quite interesting in their own right, but it was these recent weeks that Meadow was sure to remember. Was it a coincidence that a certain Pokemon was involved? One that she now considered a friend? She would have hoped not if it weren’t for rather recent… mishaps.
Meadow had been quite the lonely Pokemon, who hadn’t necessarily avoided Pokemon as a whole, just any interactions with them. The Pichu was rather shy and awkward with very little confidence in herself. However, as she matured, she soon realized that it was to her benefit that she gained some friends, not her detrimate. So she made an actual effort in trying to make friends, with rather mixed results. And by mixed I really mean they were bad.
However, things seemed to change the moment she met this Treecko named Tanis. He seemed rather cold and disinterested at first, but for whatever reason she decided to give him a bouquet of leftover flowers from deliveries she was making. He seemed to appreciate it enough, since he didn’t tell her to leave or anything. His lack of talking made things a tad awkward, and she could sense a bit of a tension, but, perhaps, that just encouraged her to talk more than she usually did.
That, and she had a lot to say and very little opportunity to say it outside of talking to Ivysaur.
The two conversed for much longer a time than she had anticipated, since she did have to return to her work before evening struck. That just showed how much of a good time she was having, at least. Of course, he never once asked her to leave, so his situation couldn’t have been that bad. He even got to show off his climbing ability, which from Meadow’s standpoint seemed like something he really enjoyed.
Meadow ended up leaving in a rush, though she didn’t really want to. She wanted to spend more time discussing, but she had to get back before Ivysaur started getting worried. Meadow wasn’t one on tardiness, and she didn’t really know what a worried Ivysaur looked like. It didn’t sound like a pretty sight. She’d heard he was quite the tough Pokemon in his own right, though he had yet to show that side to Meadow. He was actually quite pleasant with her.
After their first meeting, Meadow and Tanis didn’t see each other for a few days. Meadow wasn’t too worried since she did end up making him promise that they would see each other again. The Pichu had a feeling the Treecko would have wanted to meet up again anyway, but he said he wanted to repay her gift with a favor. At first, she tried to dismiss since she didn’t think she did anything warranting a reward or anything.
However, her perspective on the whole situation changed when she realized how serious he was. Meadow didn’t want to hurt Tanis’s feelings, as it seemed as though this was really important to him. However, she also didn’t want it to seem like she was taking advantage of him, or that any nice thing she does for him in the future would only be for the reward. The flowers she gave him would die out some day, and she intended to get them replaced when that happened, since he seemed to appreciate them. But as far as the favor went, Meadow decided to make him promise that they would meet again sometime. She wasn’t specific on when, although she did assume they’d meet up again soon.
However, the way they would meet up next wasn’t quite how she wanted it. It was the first, and hopefully only, time she would meet the assassin called Lucifer. Quite the fitting name since he was pure evil as far as she was concerned. Just thinking about him made her blood boil. She didn’t understand why, but she never felt such disdain for anyone before meeting that Absol. Of course, the disdain wasn’t there from the start.
Her first feeling upon meeting him was uncertainty. Lucifer seemed quite odd, but she was willing to discuss with him if that was what he wanted. He was just standing there, though, and so the Pichu closed her eyes for a few moments. That was when she realized the Absol was trying to kill her. Naturally, the little mouse ran away from him as fast as she could in any way that she could. However, she ended up being cornered by a rock wall thanks to her horrible climbing skills. Meadow ended up with a broken foot, and she practically felt her entire life flash before her eyes.
That was when Tanis showed up. Meadow was confident that Tanis had everything under control, but for some reason she felt like she had to help somehow, even with her courage dashed. For some reason, seeing Tanis take that Future Sight in her stead made her snap. She yelled at the canine and told him things she wouldn’t have even dreamed of saying. Despite his calm reactions, Lucifer did end up snarling at the things that she said, which didn’t seem to happen as often when Tanis spoke.
It was something she’d never even dreamed would happen to her.
After what seemed like forever, Tanis and Meadow finally escaped, with the Pichu latched onto the Treecko’s back. It was then that Tanis finally admitted that they were friends, which was a great comfort to her seeing as she almost died. However, in her opinion, they’d been friends for a few days at that point.
After the incident with Lucifer, Meadow was quite a bit traumatized. She had fallen asleep during her “ride” home, so she didn’t end up getting to say goodbye to Tanis, nor did she get the chance to thank him again. Ivysaur tried to ask her what happened to cause her foot to break and if this “Treecko Guy” had anything to do with it. All Meadow could say was no, since thinking about the situation caused her to tense up.
Because of her broken foot, Meadow was given a couple days to recuperate, but she still couldn’t bring herself to talk about what happened. The Pichu still came by the shop just so she wouldn’t be tempted to lock herself up in her home. Plus, she felt a lot safer being with someone than being by herself.
The day after the incident, Tanis returned to the shop, which made the Pichu very happy. Ivysaur, on the other paw, wasn’t so keen on him being there. Tanis explained what happened, and for some reason her employer decided to kick the Treecko out of the shop. Meadow tried to insist that Tanis wasn’t bad, since she had a bit of an idea as to why he was being so harsh. Still, the stubborn Grass-Type wouldn’t have it, and Tanis left.
“You don’t understand, Ivysaur!” Meadow tried to explain. “Tanis didn’t do anything to hurt me, he saved me!”
“But how can that be, Meadow?” Ivysaur inquired. “That Treecko is an outlaw! Why would a random Outlaw go out of his way to help you, a stranger?”
“He’s not a stranger,” Meadow continued. “He’s my friend. I met him a few days earlier and gave him a bouquet of flowers. I…” Meadow paused and shuffled her feet a bit. “I… I know I shouldn’t have, but I… he just seemed so lonely. I don’t know why, but I made a bouquet out of the extra flowers from the delivery a few days ago and gave it to him. I’m really sorry, and I’m willing to pay for them. I know how many of each kind of flowers I used for the bouquet.”
The Ivysaur ended up arching an eyebrow a bit. Well, he supposed that answered one of his questions, two if you counted the extra flowers. Seeing as most of Meadow’s record was clean, and she had good intentions, Ivysaur simply gave her a warning to, and told her to make sure to never do it again. She promised that the next time she intended on giving flowers away, it would be her own flowers from her own garden.
Ivysaur, however, told Meadow to avoid that Treecko at all costs. “But he wasn’t the one trying to hurt me!” Meadow insisted. “It was this nasty Absol with a bloody scythe! He was the one who attacked me.”
The Grass Type noticed something different about Meadow when she spoke about the Absol. Such anger, such resentment. Those were things that he’d never seen in sweet little Meadow before, and it didn’t suit her too well in his opinion. Still, all of these things seemed to fit with Tanis’s story, and so decided he would think about it. The Ivysaur was too stubborn to outright say that he misjudged the Treecko all together, not yet, at least. However, he had to admit to himself that he may have overreacted a bit.
For the next few days, neither Meadow nor Ivysaur brought up the issue with Tanis. If her boss insisted that she shouldn’t be seeing him, the Pichu had no choice but to try and disobey him. She had already promised to meet up with Tanis at some point in the future, and she wouldn’t give up on the notion that the Treecko would be her friend that easily. So she was on the lookout for the gecko, but hadn’t really been trying all that hard to actively find him. It did kind of concern her since Tanis did more than make up for the flowers by, you know, saving her life.
Still, Tanis did express the notion that he considered her a friend. At least, she thought that wasn’t a dream, so she still felt a tad optimistic.
She could afford to be even more so when Ivysaur ended up being the one who approached her about the issue. He told Meadow that he had another chat with “the Treecko” and that she didn’t have to worry about him meddling in whatever it was that she and Tanis would do. However, he did warn that if Tanis so much as looked at Meadow, or Ivysaur himself for that matter, the wrong way, then there would be dire consequences. To say that Meadow was pleased would have been a major understatement: she was absolutely thrilled!
Now if only she could meet up with Tanis again…
---
That day in particular, Meadow was working at the Flower Shop again. Or, rather, she was in the middle of trying to convince Ivysaur to let her work that day. “C’mon, Ivysaur!” The Pichu pleaded as she followed him out of his office. The two of them had heard the bell of the door jingle, so the two assumed it was a customer and walked out of the back room. “My foot’s broken, I’m not in a coma. I can still help take care of customers’ orders.”
Ivysaur, however, wasn’t convinced. “I would prefer it if you would go home and rest until your foot is healed,” he argued. “If you don’t rest your foot, it’ll remain injured for a longer period of time. Aside from that, it would be a lot safer for you to remain at your home.” Yeah, that was another thing. Upon hearing that an Absol tried to kill Meadow made Ivysaur a tad bit more protective than had been before.
Still, Meadow didn’t want to remain all cooped up in her home since she felt as though that was unproductive. Her injury was also starting to get in the way of her education, so she needed to be productive somewhere. The Pichu didn’t want to be left behind because she was so weak she broke her own foot. “I can still help,” she insisted. “I can greet customers. I can water flowers. I can suggest various flowers for whatever they want them for. I don’t have to use both of my feet to do this job. Besides, if I were at home right now, I’d probably be taking care of my garden anyway.” The Pichu winked. “Why not get paid for watering flowers?”
Ivysaur couldn’t help but chuckle a little at the comment.
It was then that the two of them noticed who, precisely, it was that entered the shop: Tanis! “Oh!” Meadow was pleasantly surprised to see the familiar looking Treecko in the shop, and it almost caused the Pichu to trip because she forgot her foot was broken for a second. Then, she walked over to the Treeko on her three limbs that weren’t broken before standing up. “Tanis!” she greeted with a smile. “I’m so happy to see you again!”
Ivysaur’s eyes squinted ever so slightly as he approached the two. The Treecko hadn’t made any bad decisions, as far as Ivysaur was concerned, for the last few days, but that didn’t mean that he completely trusted him yet. “Tanis.” he said, simply nodding to acknowledge that he was there. He didn’t say anything else after that.
Meadow smiled at Tanis, pleased since this reunion was the least awkward so far. “So what brings you to Ivysaur’s Lively Flowers?”

Oh. Would you look at that? A massive post to meet up with a massive post. Since everything above the first --- is simply reiterating what you already said, I encourage you just to make a response for everything under that. I don't know about you, but I don't want ever post of mine to be this massive. Every once and a while is fine, but I'm not going to be doing this for every post.
But, anyways, it's nice to be rping with you again, friend! Let's get this going! XD

Not that there was anything wrong with being outside by any stretch of the imagination, Tanis has been out in worser weather than a brisk wind and a cloud-filled sky. But it is still a refreshing change in pace when he's spent the majority of the day out in that breeze. To be able to have some resemblance of peace and not act like his tails are about to rip off of his back. They were originally rigid, as is often the case in normal circumstances, however the two green points fell limp quite quickly, not because he lost control of them, but namely it was getting a little painful to keep them in one place when nature itself wanted to drag them into a different position. He was better served having them simply flow where they're taken, and get laughed at in the process, than consume the energy to resist otherwise. There was little need for his tails to be straight and rigid anyway, so there was no real harm to doing so. But the enclosed area of the shop's walls, roof and the door that he walked through, as signalled by the tingling of the bell that the door struck on his way in, proved most invaluable to the flowers that adorned it, as while they may have lacked the sunlight that would assist their growth, they were spared the pains and risk of being blown away by the carrying wind. Not exactly something anyone would want to have to deal with. With his tails now given the luxury of staying in one place, and his ribbon no longer flapping around to the side of him. Despite all of this however, there was one factor that came upon him entering the establishment. It appeared to be unmanned by anyone, not even by Ivysaur. That was definitely unusual behaviour, and Tanis would inquire about it more than a single solitary thought about it, if it wasn't for the fact that he could hear some sort of discussion going on further into the store, behind the counter and past a door. The voices were too muffled to hear anything that was being said, or who they even belonged to, only that they were coming from behind that door and there was enough distinction to suggest more than one Pokémon was among the numbers in there. As tempting as investigating wasn't for Tanis, he was fairly certain that his presence was already known if the bell had anything to tingle about it. This probably wasn't the first time someone has entered while whoever is manning the store is behind that door. It's probably why the bell is there in the first place. Not that he particularly minded as such, after all, he wasn't planning on doing anything in particular besides meet with Meadow again, there wasn't a need for him to be sneaking around for a reason like that. He could've done, of course, but sadly he's not the most stealthy of Pokémon. He does mix quite well with tall green grass, that much he proved in the past, not to mention that he can outfox Pokémon who don't look up in buildings and caves. If he were to attempt it, he could maybe blend in somewhat with the flowers that virtually swamped this entire place, it wouldn't be too tough to find something with enough green in it to camouflage him. The prospect did seem enticing for a brief moment before he threw out the idea. That's not exactly setting a proper first example for the Ivysaur that Meadow holds in such high regard, and especially one that seems to be testing him and keeping a close eye on. Who knows, maybe he was watching him right now through that door, waiting for him to do something scenely that'd result in him getting chucked out. Again. Hidden prospects of being evil aside, there was one distinct feature that this shop had that not many others could be contrived as being halfway decent at: The cornucopia of mixed scents that assaulted Tanis' nose is enough on its own to make his head dizzy and filled with a massive concoction that took a few seconds to recover from. This isn't the only shop that has had numerous sharp and distinct smells, but the difference is that this one is a lot more pleasant than... Anywhere else for that matter. It's not tough to make that sort of comparison however, as many other establishments are either void of an assault of pleasing fragrances, or the fragrance itself is not as ethically pleasing as others may care to admit, to put it mildly. Beyond that, it's also quite pleasing to the eyes as well, as everywhere you look there is at least some array of assorted flowers each that seem to be color coordinated in such a way that no single bunch stand-out among the rest. That could just be from the standpoint from Tanis' point of view, as a Pokémon not as diverse on flower arrangement in a room, then again, could it be considered that if the entire room is filled with them? For example, the arrangement that his eyes set on, which is but one of several adorning the store, is mixed in a style that works very well: Yellow is followed onto blue, which then follows red. No single array seriously stands out, but no single bunch seem to be hiding beneath the rest. They all stand out in their own way that is very hard to describe. Just from his perspective, unless you had a specific type of flowers in mind, you are likely going to inquire about what type of flowers you'll be after. Only the simplistic of Pokémon would likely ask for 'Yellow' flowers, which is partially why Tanis didn't feel like the flowers were arranged in a color-specific order. What the actual order is, however, he didn't know. Even after having had his first proper look around, he wasn't really any closer to picking out what the theme was any more than he was before he entered. Flowers is the obvious answer, but the core theme eludes him. It's a cunning strategy, and it's a good way of bringing in the first-time customers: Get them talking to the store minder to help them rather than picking out what they want and paying. It's quite effective. That's not to say that the various flowers littering the store was not devoid of information or anything similar to prevent customers from learning by themselves. Walking to a particular arrangement, he stopped by a large arrangement that looked like small-stemmed blossoming white flowers with a sunlight 'dimple' in the middle of them. They all resided in a large brown pot with a very intricate floral design, which simply held them in place, which he noticed was the common theme for the large majority of the flowers in the store. In front of the bunch was a plaque that simply sat on the ground with them, easily manoeuvrable and light-weight. Upon picking the plaque up, he felt that it was made of wood, but the front of it was coated in some sort of a plastic, see-through... Thing... which adorned a picture of a single flower of the bunch that sat near it, along with some text that he presumed would've told him what it was called as well as some resemblance of information about it. Looking at the flowers next to that bunch yielded the precise same layout, albeit with an otherwise different flower arrangement: Flowers, with a plaque nearby, typically in front of them, each yielding a picture of that flower along with some sort of description. Glancing around, Tanis couldn't really see any that didn't have that setup in some way or another. In fact, the only goods he couldn't see having such a description, was a sort of miscellaneous area of the store where there was no flowers, but instead accessories and implements were housed. That and the counter, but that was because there didn't seem to be anything being sold on the actual countertop itself, that's just commonplace even for himself. What a scene to wind up in! Before Tanis had any further opportunity to consider anything else, the door of the back swung open, unveiling the owners of the voices he had heard from within moments ago. True to form, he hadn't been able to catch anything that was said before the door opened, but now that the Pokémon were out onto the main shop floor now, they could both be heard. In an ironic twist, they are both Pokémon that Tanis recognises. To say that he recognised Meadow would be doing her injustice. Through their trials and tribulations, alongside the unique first encounter that he still wondered why she approached him specifically in the first place, it was a guarantee that he'd notice who she was the moment she exited that door. As for Ivysaur, though their first meetings were brief and not as welcoming as Meadow's, he still left enough of an impact that Tanis knew who he was and what sort of significance he had in the world. That being held in high regard with Meadow. In terms of Tanis, he's a pain in his rear end that has just as much of an aggressive side as Tanis does, though he does keep himself restrained for a reason Tanis could only fathom. Perhaps the two of them will be more tolerable towards each other than they aren't right now, but for now, Tanis puts up with him only because Meadow does. It's the single reason he hasn't lashed out at him. Doing so would be very difficult to explain to her that he declares a friend. Not that his reason would be anything tangible or worth any weight even then. His nose remained cleaned, for the most part. While the pair were not making a scene that would make half the city stop its activity to listen in on what's going on, it was difficult even for Tanis to not wind up eavesdropping on what was being said. By the sounds of it, it seemed to be about Meadow's ability to work. He had realized Meadow's true state not too long after he leapt into the scene of the 'crime', which explained why she was crying out so much at that moment. Although the reason for her breaking her foot still remained a mystery to him. By the way she walked out of the back room, on three legs, was an indication that it was a more severe injury than he first imagined it to be. In spite of that, she's still getting around and wanting to get back to her regular life otherwise. She has every reason to wallow in self-pity or to be in considerable amount of pain, yet she is taking incredible lengths to at least try and have some sense of normalcy. It's to be respected, even with Ivysaur's mild reluctance and an attempt in vain to coerce her to rest the foot up instead. Tanis stood with his body still facing the flowers he was previously looking at, the plaque still in his paws, but his head turned and watching the two Pokémon bicker briefly with each other. Obviously Meadow has known Ivysaur for much longer, comparing the way he treats her than with himself, which makes sense in all honesty, Tanis would struggle to trust himself with anything, let alone an entire shop. But it's just the way that Meadow was taking the matter so light-hearted. The best option is perhaps to rest that foot of hers, but the rest of her was raring to go. She defended her claim with such vigor and with confidence that it's rather tough to debunk them all. Tanis couldn't help but smile and inwardly chuckle to himself, closing his eyes and refacing the flowers that he'd been looking at, despite not actively looking at them. Have to give her credit for staying strong amidst adversity. She may be physically weak, but her mind is as solid as a rock! But there was still something a little odd about all of this. Once again, it stemmed to the idea that Meadow seemed to picture herself as a shy and quiet Pokémon that avoided being put on the spot for too long. Yet here she was, slap-bang in the middle of the spotlight, discussing with someone about herself full and forwards. She's defending herself, and she's talking as if she'd been doing it all day so far. Tanis didn't believe at the time that she was 'shy' in any way, and once more she has confirmed his general suspicions here right now. Admittedly, she is talking with a Pokémon whom she's known for who knows how long, but even so... Regardless, she definitely is putting up her own fight amidst her pain. After a brief thought, which he had considered not doing beforehand anyway, he decided he wouldn't bring up the encounter with the Absol unless she did so first. Perhaps reminding her that she has a broken foot or treating her like she does, when she's trying to continue on as if she didn't, would be detrimental to all of her efforts that he could only imagine she has had to do so far. With that decided, he reopened his eyes and turned to face the pair again. He's been spotted! But then that was never in any real doubt. Although he wasn't sure who saw him first, both Meadow and Ivysaur were approaching Tanis from the door, Meadow at a faster pace than the leisurely stroll the Ivysaur was making. Meadow seemed quite eager to greet him in a manner that he was somewhat expecting, but he didn't think she'd actually approach him beforehand. So much for taking it easy and resting as the Ivysaur seeked. It had been a while since he'd seen her, awake that is. So it was refreshing to see that she was doing okay all things considered. Not to mention that she had confirmed his suspicions that she had kept her happy and chirpy mood that he'd somewhat grown accustomed to. Also handy that the Ivysaur has also continued to keep his slightly sour and objectifying gaze that he's grown to expect from him as well. Even so, he at least acknowledged the fact that Tanis was there, so that's kind of a positive... Kind of. Though the question of whether he was actually happy to see Tanis there or not was best left up in the air as far as he was concerned, as he had a feeling he knew the answer and didn't really want to hear it from anyone. Despite his glaring, the Ivysaur didn't do or say anything beyond approaching and that single word of his name. That worked for him, it meant he held no current reason to say or do anything in turn that could be construed as aggressive. In exchange, Tanis would be courteous and exchange the nod with his own, his eyes meeting Ivysaur's as he did so, a potential exchange of his name was otherwise short-lived by the otherwise more happier greeting of Meadow. Though he had a suspicion of it at the time of their first meeting, Tanis had a feeling that Meadow could suck out the tension in a room with her demeanour and attitude, which turned out to be completely right in his assessment. Any animosity he may have had from the otherwise dull greeting on Ivysaur, had disappeared simply by her simple question. The store's name clearly indicated that he was the owner, which he knew already, yet Meadow was the one giving the superior customer service? Perhaps she is still fit to help run the store after all? Well, he's sadly not the one to make that decision, ultimately... But perhaps he could help sway the decision just a touch. Just enough to maybe convince him that she's still capable. After all, he lay claim that he was going to be keeping a close eye on him, which no doubt means he'll be watching what will happen here, right now. Tanis had been given a sample of her vast knowledge on flowers, which at the time seemed more long-winded at that moment. But now that he had given some time to consider things and about himself in particular, perhaps there is one manner that she could shed some light on. Quite literally. The first matter of note, however, is Meadow herself. Despite what others may consider who may just happen to walk through that front door, there is only one particular reason that he came in here today. Which he doesn't hide in any way, not even in front of Ivysaur. Why is he here? The answer is pretty obvious with a little thought. " I'm here to see you, of course. Good to see you again, Meadow." Tanis spoke, meeting her gaze with each syllable. As poor as it may sound coming from a potential customer in the making, his true purpose was to see Meadow in respect to the Favor that he owes. Seeing that she's up and about with his own eyes is a nice added bonus though. After stating his piece, he bent down to the ground and replaced the plaque that had been holding the entire time, replacing it back where he had removed it from, taking a couple of seconds to readjust its positioning slightly after placing it down to ensure it looked decent enough to him. Perfectionists would probably kill him for adjusting it just ever so slightly that likely put it even more out of position that it was already, but he didn't recall the absolute precise position it was in, that's not the sort of thing he puts much take on any more than he would the display of the flowers themselves. While still bent over, he spoke once more, keeping his eyes on the plaque as he spoke, as adjusting it was his action as he formed his words. " Before that, though..." Tanis begun his query. Standing back upright, he paused to adjust the ribbon around his neck so the part that was dangling off him didn't get in his way as he spoke. He kept the bag firmly around his chest and stomach, taking away his red skin in the otherwise greenery of the shop. It wasn't intended that way, that's just how he'd been walking around. " ... Perhaps you can help me." His eyes returned to Meadow, whom he anticipated was waiting for him to probe her with his query as to how she could help, he wouldn't have expected anything more or less, being frank. She's an honest and good Pokémon, a far cry from himself. What he had in mind was something he had considered the day after their first meeting, that probed his mind and he didn't specifically have an answer for. Being the self-proclaimed veteran in the field, or knowledged at least. Perhaps she could answer what he could not. That and it may assert her point to Ivysaur from her original discussion, though only time would answer that. " Do you know of any citrus-scented flowers?" Out of all the scents he's smelt, Citrus is among his favorites next to grass. Yet with the overflowing of scents that's mixing this entire shop, it's quite difficult to actually pin-point one specific type of flavour among them all. Tanis had almost suggested adding in a type of flower that also had a strong affinity to light. Ultimately he decided against it because, being honest, that's pretty much any flower in existence. To ask that would have the same effect as asking for water. With his question asked, Tanis stood calmly and with purpose. Perhaps he may wind up getting an earful from Meadow with a description on all sorts of flowers that fit the citrus description. The core difference is that this time it's on a matter that he is at least somewhat keen on that particular point. He'd need to be careful though, if she strolls off in a complete tangent like she threatened to do the last time she spoke about her garden, he may wind up there all evening without having any sort of chance to have that talk that she wanted to have with him. Not to mention he didn't know how much patience Ivysaur would have with it all. So Tanis will need to ensure to stop her before she goes on that tangent. Who knew leading onto a conversation would be this tough? Geez! When did something like that get so complicated all of a sudden? +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ >Doesn't know how to initiate conversation >Brings up flowers >Welp...Obvious slow start is obviously slow, but had to start somewhere, and I thought this made the most sense considering where they were and who is watching in on them. How this'll transition to what Meadow wants to discuss, I'm not sure yet. But let's at least get her doing her job for a post. :3 Good to be working on another thread with you mate! Quite looking forward to this one!

Meadow didn’t get many visitors. Basically the only visitor she’d ever gotten since she moved out of her home was her boss, Ivysaur. It only made sense since she wasn’t out on her own long enough to warrant any visits from her parents (though she was getting there), but it also proved how few friends she had.
So the moment Tanis said he was there to visit her, Meadow felt a little warm inside. Her face flushed a little as she witnessed the sweetest thing the Treecko had said to her so far aside from admitting that they were friends. It took every power of will for her not to hug him, since that would be quite the awkward thing for her to do in front of her boss, but he would get one, no doubt. “Aw,” she settled with this response. “I’m happy to see you, too! And in my favorite flower shop, too! This is starting to be a good day.”
The little Pichu was beaming with such joy, that not even Ivysaur could keep himself from smiling, if only a little. Though it only lasted a second or two as he reminded himself of the other Pokemon that was in the room with them. Ivysaur didn’t glare at Tanis, but he did have a stern stare that could have easily be mistaken as one. There was something about Tanis that he didn’t quite trust yet. He didn’t feel nearly as suspicious as he had before, but Tanis still had a bit of a ways to go before completely earning his trust.
But… he said he was there to see Meadow. And Ivysaur had just argued with her on why it wasn’t a good idea to get her to work, so… what was to stop her from spending that time with Tanis? ...Alone… For an undetermined amount of time.
...Ivysaur was starting to have second thoughts about not having her work that day. That seemed like quite the better idea than sending her on her way.
“Oh!” Meadow smiled a gentle smile. “You want a plant with a citrusy scent, huh?” The Pichu hummed as she looked around before spotting her target. “I think I know just what you’re looking for! Follow me, if you will, sir!” Once again, Meadow went on all three non-injured legs as she had before, and made her way past various lilies, roses, and chrysanthemums, until she reached a group of large, orange-red colored flowers. There were mixtures of yellows and reds in some of them as well, but they all looked quite harty for flowers.
“These flowers are called Blc Chunyeah,” she explained. “They are incredible flowers that are strong. They don’t die quickly, but work best in a medium sized pot. And, most importantly for your cause,” The little Pichu pushed herself up toward the petals and sighed in a good whiff of the plant. “They have a nice, citrusy scent!” Meadow turned to her friend with a smile, stepping a bit to the side. “Would you like to smell them yourself, Tanis?”
Both Meadow and Ivysaur gave the Treecko a chance to take a sniff, and whilst he did so, Meadow gave her boss quite the sly smile. Unfortunately for her, she was a tad too small and sweet for it to have the effect that she wanted. Instead, he gave her a bit of a chuckle, causing the Pichu to pout a bit, which made him laugh even more.
However, a roll of his eyes was proof that he was somewhat relenting. “Alright, alright,” he said. “I suppose you’re not too injured to get back to work.” The Ivysaur earned a grin before looking at the Treecko with a look of slight annoyance. “However,” he whispered, grabbing her attention. “I suppose your friend won’t be leaving any time soon?”
Meadow glanced at Tanis before smiling and whisperering back to her boss. “He has this favor system. Remember the flowers I gave him?” Ivysaur nodded. “I tried to tell him it was a gift, but he insisted he wanted to pay me back somehow. So I told him I wanted to meet him again at some point.”
Ivysaur raised an eyebrow at the Pichu’s logic. “You wanted to meet a stranger again?”
Meadow giggled. “Tanis isn’t a stranger, remember?” Meadow explained. “He’s my friend, now. And even then, I wanted to meet him again. We had a nice conversation, and he seems like a good person to me.”
But, then again, Meadow had already told Ivysaur all of this. No doubt in her hours and hours of arguing with him about said Treecko.
Ivysaur hummed as he thought about his next step. On one hand, he could just keep Meadow in the shop, which would assure that he would know that she’s safe, but keep them in a situation where things are awkward, or send Meadow on an errand in which Tanis would tag along, but Ivysaur wouldn’t know what would happen for hours. Ivysaur would have been more than eager to make her stay in the shop, except for one little factor that went against him going with that first option: that would require that he break the promise he made to her.
Ivysaur promised that he would allow Tanis access to Meadow without interfering, so long as Meadow wasn’t harmed, and he promised Meadow that he would trust her judgement, so long as she promised to protect herself. It seemed as though he didn’t really have much of a choice…
Drawing out a sigh, Ivysaur stepped toward the room he had come out with Meadow, and rummage through his things for several moments before coming back out to a slightly confused Meadow. Within the vines of Ivysaur was a piece of paper, rolled up like a scroll. He silently passed it to Meadow before he spoke. “I want you to go out and deliver this,” Meadow hummed questioningly at Ivysaur. “They are instructions on how to care for a rare Marigold. I want you to deliver this to the address written on the paper.”
Meadow unscrolled the note and read the address before giving Ivysaur a nod.
Ivysaur turned to Tanis. “And I suppose you’d be tagging along, right?” The head of the shop sighed. “Well, I suppose it’s only natural. She does have a broken foot, after all. Meadow, you have until sundown to make the delivery and be back here. Just… be careful. And Tanis?” He paused for a few seconds to see if he had Tanis’s attention. Ivysaur then glared ominously. “Remember what I told you.”
Meadow smiled at her boss, straightening herself up. “Oh, thank you, Ivysaur,” Meadow thanked. “I promise, I won’t let you down!” Meadow turned to her friend with a grin. “Shall we be off, then?”

As awkward as that felt, Tanis felt like he handled the crisis of talking as opposed to what he typically does reasonably well. Neither her nor Ivysaur immediately went to bite his head off, so that could only be a positive thing, right? It stemmed all the way back to a week or so ago when Meadow first approached him the first time they met, the self-proclaimed shy and nervous Pichu made the most daring move of all and approached an injured Treecko to make conversation. He still didn't actually have any idea why she even did it beyond claiming that he was sad and needed cheering up. But what was easy to compare was how much Meadow had changed from that first meeting, to this one. It seemed like she was stumbling about with her words, perhaps trying to resist the urge to choke or something similar as she was speaking to him. It may have been Tanis himself, he wasn't exactly the most civil Pokémon, and still isn't depending on who you ask. It did make him wonder if maybe she had regretted the decision the moment she committed to talking to him. Still, she kept to her nerve and begun her commitment no matter how much she really didn't want to. That brave act has led the pair to the situation that they find themselves in. Meadow's passive and unsure speech has been replaced with one of much more confidence and strength, her natural words and speech, a friendly manner. She didn't hesitate to approach Tanis once she realized he was there, and all stuttering had disappeared. And yet she claimed herself to be shy? That claim still didn't hold water to Tanis, she'd proved otherwise multiple times, even now. But perhaps claiming that she is while she's with her boss and a Pokémon she proclaims as friend now is perhaps not a good comparison. Of course she's going to feel comfortable around them both. So perhaps it is quite fitting that Meadow approached Tanis first while he was injured with some flowers, and he's approaching her first while she's injured in a flower shop! Still, he remained unaware of the fact that Meadow didn't have too many in the way of friends that she held claim to. Naturally she had Ivysaur of course, that much was given considering she praised him and his store to him, she wouldn't have done so otherwise. Tanis did figure that because she worked here, she likely knew a good number of Pokémon as customers, definitely acquaintances, though surely some regular would consider her as friend, and she to them. Without anyone telling her, or telling him herself, there wasn't any proper likelihood that Tanis will know that fact. Even so, Meadow exerted so much happiness in the shop that it was difficult to feel any other emotion in the shop. The tension that might've been created by Ivysaur's cold glare at him was overflooded by the sheer joy that she was exhibiting herself. Any chance that Tanis had to keep a neutral expression throughout her exclamation of it being a good day evaporated with every second that past until not even he could maintain the façade any longer and chuckled at approximately the same Ivysaur smiled at the scene. He did wonder if the encounter with the Absol, especially with how much she was spitting rage-infused comments at him was going to leave a negative impact on her. Perhaps it did, but she certainly wasn't showing it even if she had every right to be so. It was a refreshing sight nonetheless, and one that Tanis soaked up and relished in the thought that she was fine. It was a lingering issue with him, so to see her up and about to what he assumed was her usual self, put a concern at ease. A worthy trip if nothing else. Still somehow bubbly, Meadow bought herself back to the face of reality. The prospect of performing her duty as a Florist's assistant bringing her back to a sense of duty. While it may have seemed like a wild question to be pitching to Meadow completely out of nowhere, which was yet another comparison to their first meeting now that Tanis thought about it vaguely, it held to Tanis' interests mostly because it's his favorite scent, and food for that matter. Nothing beats a strong citrus taste. As for the scent, it only eclipses and broadens his love for it. Admittedly perhaps having something that holds a citrus scent may make him hungrier faster, as would anything else that made such a distinct smell, but he nonetheless did want to know if something like that existed. Unfortunately Tanis didn't know the answer, and while it wasn't something that he desperately needed to know or wasn't going out of his way to acquire the answer, it was one he wouldn't mind having one to at some point. Of course, what better place, and Pokémon, to pose such a question than in a flower shop? Made perfect sense to him. Perhaps with time, he would've found the answer to his question by himself, eventually. Though he would've spent the entire evening sniffing multiple amounts of flowers trying to distinguish one from the next. The shorter and easier answer was the one he employed, and as wild and as random as his question appeared to have, Meadow had zero problems with it at all as she paced over to her target after having scanned the room for a few seconds. As the potential customer in the scenario, and as the one who posed the query, it was his turn to remain silent and watch the expert at work. And an expert she most certainly is. Like a tour guide, and approached the flowers that she considered fitted what Tanis described, and gave a general overview of why this particular type of flower was the one that Tanis desired. She gave the flowers a slightly cheeky with to exemplify the point before she permitted Tanis to have a sniff himself. Tanis remained silent through it all, allowing Meadow to pitch the flower and adhering to the customer's query, precisely what is expected of a shopkeeper no less. Her delivery was direct and to the point, she primed the idea that it was the best flower that fit his purpose, and answered the query that Tanis desired of it. If that's not how it should be done, then Tanis didn't know what would work. It was difficult to really describe how the Chunyeah looked. Its shape closely resembled a daffodil, but its coloring seemed to be a wide mix of yellow and red in a variety of ways. Upon closer examination, it did look like a few had yet to sprout and blossom into their full splendour, like the rest of them had. Likely still within their infancy and just not quite ready to reach the next stage in their lifecycle. But none of them looked even remotely close to perishing or showed any real sign of proper wear and tear. Then again, it wouldn't do the shop any good to be selling cheap knock-offs or ones that are close to wilting. Tanis can think of a couple of shops that probably would if they could, not sure how they'd do profit-wise though. Regardless, the shape is a little unique, so he isn't too sure how they would do accompanied with other flowers in the shape of a bouquet, if they could even be placed in one. They probably could with the right type of flowers, but Tanis couldn't even begin to fathom where to even begin with something like this. Definitely would have to be with flowers that both matched or accompanied the color, as well as not mix the scent to make it a convoluted mess. The bouquet he got from Meadow had a rather distinct scent that didn't clash from each other. While Meadow and Ivysaur were busy discussing something Tanis wasn't paying attention to at that moment, he took that opportunity to give them a good sniff. Exquisite! The scent is not over-powering, and while he can't quite get the full sensation of it from the flowers that are all around him, he can feel the tang of the flavour that he was all too familiar with. That would only be something he could smell if he actively sniffed them, another sharp contrast from the bouquet. There was just enough in the bouquet that a sharp inhale through his nose reminded him of his existence, which in turn caused him to look at them and give them a sniff. Carrying just these around would perhaps not be such a bright idea without another set of flowers to accompany them. Something with a lasting scent that he could smell to remind him that they're there, but then smell the citrus when he sniffed them properly. Did something like that even exist? Tanis contemplated the idea in his head. Standing upright after having his fill of its scent, staring at the bunch with his right paw covering and rubbing his mouth and his elbow resting on his left arm. Unfortunately, that's another question best left to someone like Meadow, he could consider it all day, but he knew he wouldn't get anywhere. By the time Tanis had realized that Meadow and Ivysaur was whispering about something while he was preoccupied with the Chunyeah, it was essentially all over at that point. Ivysaur appeared to be contemplating something to himself in much the same way that Tanis sometimes does when deep in thought, perhaps it's something grass types shares, wouldn't be too unusual to think that it was. Clearly he is a methodical Pokémon that weighs down his options and considers what would be the best one to utilize at that moment. Though Tanis isn't entirely sure why, he figured that it maybe was linked to deciding if Meadow could work or not. She appropriately demonstrated that she could do it, and effectively, so he didn't really know why there was even any room to debate. She certainly sounded like she wanted to work again, and despite her broken foot, she's still mobile and capable. Perhaps he's afraid that she's going to injure herself more trying to do so? That is always a risk, but that will always be a potential risk whether she's working or not. At least that's the conclusion Tanis reached during the time Ivysaur spent contemplating whatever he was debating. Ultimately however, he appeared to have caved to Meadow's earlier claims to work again. Before he set off to retrieve the parchment from near the back door that the two of them exited from, he gave Tanis a look that he was all too familiar with. Resentment, distrust, maybe even anger? It was clear from that moment that while Meadow was still showcasing a highly positive light that is continuing to exuberate the shop, Ivysaur was unwilling to share that same feeling in his own demeanour. No, he continued to retain his authoritive nature, and while not strict, it was no less a punishing feeling. Ivysaur handed Meadow the parchment, although Tanis' angle from still being near the Chunyeah disallowed him any conceivable way to find out what is written on it. Ivysaur stated it was something to do with looking after a Marigold, whatever one of those were, and requiring it delivered. Tanis figured he was referring to a flower, as if it wouldn't really be anything else that instructions could be given to look after something else for this shop. But it is interesting that the shop also seems to sell information as well as the flowers on display. By this point, Tanis had turned to face the two as they both discussed the task at hand. Although quizzically at first, Meadow didn't once show any annoyance about the task Ivysaur has bestowed upon her, if anything, Tanis could've sworn that she was perhaps looking forward to it, just a little bit. Was she? Regardless, there was a definitive resolve that she was showcasing which was a sharp contrast to how she was a moment ago. Ivysaur is her boss, and he's given her a task to perform, so naturally she would listen to anything that he had to say. It was clear just from that interaction and the granting of the task that he trusts her to perform to the best of her ability, and she is nothing less than a vital asset to all of it. Tanis didn't have any idea how long she's been working at the shop, but he could at least guess that it'd been a while. The best news however, is that Ivysaur seemed to have caved to the idea of Meadow working again. He liked to think he helped play a role in that by asking his earlier question, though perhaps there was a different reason he didn't know about. Either way he wasn't complaining about achieving results regardless of how they were acquired. Tanis couldn't help but give a cheeky grin. However, it was not to last, as before long. Ivysaur ensured that he had not forgotten about the other presence in the building. The time limit was given and the pressure was applied upon the pair of them. Yet what stuck out to Tanis personally, was just how snide he seemed to be while addressing Tanis. There was no doubt that both of them had each other's attention if just for the simple fact that Tanis didn't back down from the glare that he was being given. There was no doubt that Ivysaur is a strong Pokémon more than capable of holding his own in a fight should it come to that. But the way he spoke and seemed to direct his annoyance and frustrations at Tanis, as if he is the reason he was in the predicament he was in in the first place. The smile from Tanis' face disappeared instantly and was replaced with a scorn as he glanced into Ivysaur's eyes with as much intensity as he was being given, beginning a murderous, but otherwise silent staring contest between Tanis and Ivysaur. He didn't appreciate the way he was being spoken to, and already he could feel himself boiling into a fight just for that reason alone. It were remarks like them that has led him to the scenario of being classed as the bad guy. So easy to trigger, difficult to quell. Tanis bared his teeth slightly and balled his paws into fists. He's so tempted to wipe that smug attitude off of Ivysaur's face right here and right now! With the way that he's been pressuring himself upon Tanis the past couple of visits they had has only escalated the feeling to a point that he'd like nothing more than to punch him in the mouth and see how well he mouths off afterwards. He definitely remembered what he told him last time, he didn't need reminding. Perhaps a black eye will help give Ivysaur a reminder of what he has to do as well? With each second that past, the prospect of lashing out grew as Tanis' stare only intensified. He had completely forgotten about the bigger picture at that moment. but fortunately, he had some help reminding him, in the form of a voice. Meadow spoke up and broke apart what could otherwise have turned into an ugly situation. Tans snapped his eyes briefly to Meadow, declaring her departure, and ushering Tanis along. Of course, how could Tanis forget the reason he came down here in the first place. He's fulfilling his end of the deal with Meadow's Favor. She hasn't asked him to pummel Ivysaur into the ground, or anything remotely similar. He's here for her today, not for Ivysaur or for himself. What the green galoot has to say or do about it should have no bearing on what Tanis is doing here. Her mere words returned a trace of his sensibility and his purpose, away from attacking something that is. By the time he returned his glare to Ivysaur, he no longer felt the inclination to go after him, that ship had already sailed and down a waterfall, at least for the purposes of wanting to show Ivysaur who the real boss was. Perhaps another time, he'll snag an opportunity to test him and reveal who is truly capable of bossing anyone around, but that time is not now. His time is now with Meadow, he shouldn't be wasting it on something, or someone, else. After a couple more seconds of otherwise slowly turning staring, Tanis broke it off by turning towards Meadow, closing his eyes and saying only one word to confirm that he heard her. " Coming." Simply, yet effective. It was a signal to himself that he wasn't going to waste any more time considering the potential prospect of turning aggressive. And so, arguably the wisest thing he'd done since Ivysaur spoke directly to him, Tanis turned and walked towards the shop's front door, nearby where Meadow was waiting for him. So many things that he really wanted to do at that particular moment, yet avoiding the fight by walking away from it is his decision? Such is the power of his Favors. Ivysaur was not an obstacle between him and Meadow, he'd already granted them permission to leave the shop. There wasn't any reason to attack him for that reason, even if there were still plenty of other good reasons. Tanis stepped beside Meadow as she made her preparations to leave. During which time Tanis fiddled with his bag strap to stop it from digging into the same portion of his shoulder for an extended length of time, as well as flipping his Silk Scarf to reposition the length that remained so it draped behind him, which had since drooped to his left side. Now at touching distance to each other, Tanis' left arm, which had previous been badly wounded and burned, has lost all sign of injury and has made a full recovery bar a new and slightly discoloured set of scars where his Bite wound was. The bandage was gone, and the arm was functioning at its capacity. Tanis continued to say nothing concerning Meadow's broken foot, even though Ivysaur did, which was one more reason why Tanis wanted to punch his lights out. That wasn't a memory he wanted Meadow to rethink about if she didn't want to. He had considered potentially being her crutch so she could stand on two legs and hop. Of course, that's not setting too much of an example if her trying to prove to Ivysaur that she can handle herself. He had no doubt that he's have some way to ensure Tanis wasn't going to be up to no good with Meadow on tow, but then that would imply that he was going to do something untoward or unjust. The notion was preposterous, and he couldn't understand why Ivysaur wasn't convinced that he is here simply to fulfil his part of the deal. At least that's what he told himself. Once the pair had finished with their preparation, Tanis opened the door and allowed a blast of wind to assault his body and immediately forcing both his tails and his scarf to flap in its direction. Right... He'd nearly forgotten that it was quite windy out there too. It wasn't as if the foliage outside or the ominous clouds above had any significance to that fact... Sometimes even Tanis misses the blatant obvious. Either way, he held the door open for Meadow, exiting himself once she passed him. He gave Ivysaur one final gaze in his direction, following only one more word to confirm his departure. " ... Ivysaur." With that, he closed the door to the shop, leaving the pair of them outside to face the elements. !- OOC: Ignore below if Meadow brings up discussion first -! With the address and the directions to know where she is going, he hoped at least, Tanis followed Meadow down the otherwise twists and turns that made up the general marketplace. Though he did have a relatively decent idea of where some of the areas are, it did usually involve him taking the worst path in existence. Regardless, this was Meadow's job, and so obvious it should be done her way, not his. Of course, having it done his way would be nearly impossible without a second Pokemon involved, primarily to show him where he was going. Despite the howling gale that constantly threatened to tear off his tails, which had once again fallen limp and became at the mercy of the wind that blew them in the same direction as his scarf, he was actually starting to enjoy wandering around the streets now that they were underway. With Ivysaur's staring contests now having become an ignored memory for now, he was more keen on Meadow's standpoint rather than anything else. He wasn't even so much interested on the delivery that she was doing persay, moreover, he was more interested in this meeting and discussion that she was so keen on having with him again. Plenty of questions arose from his mind, all of which pertaining to her request, or her foot. All of which got dismissed rapidly. Why was he even thinking about why she wanted this Favor? It shouldn't matter, this was what she wanted, so that's what she's getting, simple as that. She was perfectly happy when Tanis showed up and proclaimed as such, there wasn't any reason to push the matter now that he was fulfilling it. Besides, he'd planned on sticking around until she dismissed him and considered it finished. He wasn't in any rush. As for her foot.. He'd already decided upon himself that he wasn't going to probe her about anything related to that fight, so why he's considering asking about how it is was beyond him. He felt a little ashamed to even consider it. The question, with all that in mind, was what would make for a good source of conversation now that they were away from the confines of the shop and the prying ears of Ivysaur? Wandering around on its own is pleasant enough for Tanis, but he had a suspicion that Meadow may be finding it a little awkward considering he hadn't said anything since they left the shop. Now a couple of minutes had passed and they were no closer to coming up with anything. Well, he can't just walk here and say nothing the entire trip! The point of the visit, as Meadow pointed out to him when she requested it, was so that they could talk some more. Here they are, and yet he's staying silent. This probably wasn't what she envisioned when she came up with the request. Besides, she came to him first and started talking to him, so obviously he figured he should be the one to start now. The only question is, what should he actually say? He's not really that great at conversation to begin with, but to initiate one? " ... Well..." Tanis began, not really too convinced of what he was going to say afterwards, as the pair turns a corner, which in turn forced Tanis' scarf and tails to blast his back and force both in front of himself. Honestly, unless Meadow brings up one of the subjects she was considering asking him last time, he was a bit stumped as to what he could actually say. It took a few more seconds after he uttered his first word after stepping outside, but it wasn't until he looked up to the sky, and the clouds that threatened more drastic weather in the future that he decided that the best thing to say was an apology. Why? … It was all he could think of to say. " I'm sorry Meadow... I maybe could've picked a better day to visit." Considering she was in the middle of a debate with Ivysaur about her work when he showed up, not to mention the poor weather conditions not making travelling around much better. Sure, she was happy that he showed up, but surely that had changed now that she was made to deliver something outside in the harsh wind. At the very least, he didn't think this was good weather for gardening or tending to flowers, so he figured she didn't like it either. Tanis spoke a lot more gentler than he obviously appeared when staring with OIvysaur, and definitely more-so when saying Ivysaur's name. He kept his eyes on Meadow as he spoke, shifting his vision occasionally to ensure he wasn't about to walk into a lamppost or some other obstacle. At least it's something to break off the awkward silence the pair was having. And hopefully the interval of her response would give him a little more time to figure out a better subject to raise. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Awkward Tanis with poor conversation skills fumbles with a subject. Somehow fitting. :v I did fast-forward things just a touch so there was something for you to use if you wanted it. Otherwise, if you'd prefer Meadow to open things up, you're more than welcome to start us off. Please, don't hesitate. Sorry again this took so long. Hopefully things will cool down soon and I can get back to normal. Once we're up and running here, I wager things will get more interesting, we're just getting to it.

Upon losing her sack during her encounter with Lucifer, Meadow made the investment to buy a new bag, one that had a strap on it so that she could keep it over her shoulder. The Pichu had always been rather reluctant to get an actual bag with a strap because of how small she was as a Pichu. However, because an actual sack had been more of a burden when running away from a murderous Pokemon who wanted to have her for lunch, or maybe more of a snack, she got a bag with a strap anyway.
Sure, she could have carried the instructions on her own, but, again, she’s small and as a result had tiny paws. A gust of wind could have easily taken a piece of paper, or even a scroll, from her tiny grasp. Even if she accidentally dropped her bag, as long as she kept it securely inside said bag, it would be that difficult to keep track of it.
The one thing that the little mouse didn’t account for was just how windy it was outside.
The Pichu stepped out, and in an instant she was almost completely blown away. Had it not been for the weight of her bag, Meadow would have been sent stumbling backward, which definitely would not have been good for her broken foot. The little mouse, being as eager as she was to get going, didn’t really notice the harsh glares Ivysaur and Tanis had been giving to each other. In fact, she had been quite oblivious to their less than kind behavior to each other.
Ivysaur, however, did notice it, and the only reason he wasn’t upset by it was because he had come to expect it from Tanis. That was also disregarding the fact that he wasn’t much better in that regard. Even though Ivysaur didn’t show as much aggression thanks to his self control, that didn’t mean he didn’t feel the same on the inside. It wasn’t hard to tell, however, that Meadow didn’t seem to notice Tanis’s aggression either. It was hard to tell why Meadow wasn’t seeing what was right under her nose, but…
Was that really all important anyway? As long as the two weren’t flat out murdering each other, perhaps her apparent obliviousness to it help keep the two as civil as possible without flat out yelling at the two, which frankly wouldn’t have helped much.
Meadow, in a desperate attempt to combat the powerful gusts of wind, managed to put her bag in between herself and the intense wind. The Pichu would have to push it forward, but it was probably to best way to make progress. Honestly, it was really hard to be so small sometimes, and the fact that her ears were practically the size of her head, if not bigger, didn’t exactly help matters either. They pretty much acted like sails, but she wasn’t a Water Type so she had barely any control over it.
Tanis wasn’t far behind and the moment he came out they were off. The Pichu wouldn’t have struggled so much had it not been for the fact that her foot was broken, but her sack wasn’t that heavy. Plus, it was better to have something to push and help keep her balance than for it to be holding her back or tripping her up. It honestly surprised her just a little that even Tanis could handle such strong breezes, but she supposed that just proved that he was pretty tough. As for her well… she was smaller than him. She’d just leave it at that.
As one could imagine, it was rather difficult for the small creature to start a conversation while battling the gusts of wind. Honestly, she had even forgotten to start one when, before she knew it, Tanis was starting one. The Pichu sort of flinched at the unexpected voice, blinking at her friend a couple times before recovering with a sweet smile. “Oh!” She said, unintentionally making it seem like she was surprised by the apology and not by the pure fact that he had spoken. “That’s not a problem!” Meadow waved it off a bit. “I was hoping to see you sometime soon!”
“Actually,” she continued, trying really hard to push her way forward as the wind started picking up again. “Ivysaur... is actually right. I shouldn’t... be working... right now. It’s just…” The Pichu managed to let out a sigh as the wind seemed to let up a bit. “I just couldn’t stand being cooped up in that house anymore. It’s… It’s really weird.” Meadow paused for a few seconds before continuing. “I know my recent actions don’t prove it, but I tend to hide away when something really bad happens.”
Meadow then gritted her teeth a little as she looked up nervously at Tanis. “Oh, I’m sorry!” Meadow said. “I shouldn’t have brought it up. Lucifer was quite the intense encounter with you, too, I assu-!” Before the Pichu was able to finish her sentence, the wind started picking up again. “Oh sheesh…” Meadow sighed. “I’m not one to complain, but even I have to admit that this was not a good day for me to be on a delivery. I’m not all that sturdy you know. I’m really sorry if I’m going too slow right now.”
Oh gosh! Tanis went to give a sincere apology about inconveniencing her, and here she was apologizing for not one but two things. Boy did she feel quite silly. Meadow managed to glance up at Tanis with a smile. “How have you been Tanis?” the Pichu questioned. “I haven’t seen you for quite some time, so I was a bit concerned if you were alright.” Meadow then gasped before instinctively placing a paw on Tanis’s arm. “You don’t think… that Lucifer will try to hurt you for protecting me, do you?”
...Perhaps Meadow wasn’t nearly as over the whole Lucifer incident as she thought.

Self-restraint is indeed among the very few reasons that saved Ivysaur from having to try and explain why him and Tanis ended up fighting slap-bang in the middle of a flower shop. Though that fact alone may have contributed to that restraint, or at least a portion of it, it did bend to the idea that Tanis would have that same logic in showing enough restraint himself in not committing to such an act. In short, that wasn't the case: Tanis has no issues when and where a fight broke out, whether it's in the street, in a bar, at someone's house, or in the middle of a store with flowers that could easily be destroyed by a rogue attack from anyone. His restraint came purely from the idea that his reason for being there in the first place was because of Meadow and the Favor that he is repaying. For today, what she wished would be his duty. She was the one who ushered him towards the door and to the task that had been bestowed upon her, and not to attack someone who was beginning to tick him off. That came as no real surprise, since if someone as gentle as Meadow was able to invoke some anger within Tanis enough to consider charging a Solarbeam with otherwise malicious intent, then Ivysaur's negative demeanour towards him was most certainly going to tip him even closer over that cliff's edge bordering his sense of reason and overwhelming rage! It was Meadow that proved to be the springboard that sprung him back onto that cliff's edge and prevented him from doing something that he had no doubt he'd have a lot of explaining to do if he committed to it. Excuses aside, Tanis just couldn't help himself. Those words, his tone, the way he presented himself, Ivysaur was the very definition of someone who, according to Tanis, needed a beat-down to learn his true place. That being said, he would admit that that demeanour was only presented upon himself, and not so much to Meadow. Although his tone hadn't changed, his request towards Meadow felt authoritive, but sensible. He spoke as someone who was the boss, which he was, to Meadow. Applying that same stance to Tanis on the other paw just sat wrongly with him, and that was the problem Tanis had with him. Even now that he walked with Meadow down a pathway that only she could determine, the urge to smack him into the ground was still very much there. The feeling has since diminished, further represented by the fact that he wasn't near Ivysaur anymore, but for now at least, there will always be a lingering and mutual hatred for him that Tanis couldn't fathom when that may ever end, if it ever would...
But Ivysaur's fears were not without their merits, though only applied prior to their first two meetings with each other. If he had seen them both when Meadow first approached Tanis, he could be forgiven for penning Tanis as hostile in some regard towards Meadow. Even Tanis would openly admit that his treatment of her when she first presented those flowers to him was... Less than pleasant. With a background such as his own, the possibility of being stabbed in the back, both figuratively and literally, is all too common. But that is what happens when you're a part of a crowd that is best not spoken about some of the time. There are those with more pleasant outlooks and whose kindness is genuine and wrought with no consequences or requests, at least not initially. Those are the type of Pokémon that are easier to get along with overall, which is why Tanis had at least attempted to give Meadow a chance with him at being civil, albeit still with some roughness around the edges. Conversation is fine and all, but Tanis remained unconvinced about Meadow's intentions until they found themselves in the thick of a fight. Coincidence or not, seeing her in action and haphazardly putting herself in more danger to avoid the possibility of Tanis being harmed by herself, despite his ordering to do so, cemented the idea into his head that, while he still didn't have any clue whatsoever why she approached him in the first place, she was trustworthy in his books. With that in mind, Tanis' disposition towards her has changed since she first introduced herself to him. While he may have potentially considered attacking her for small reasons at first, now he gives her the benefit of the doubt and a certain level of trust that he feels she deserves. Case in point, his confrontation with Ivysaur. A battle was literally imminent with the way he was angrily staring at the shop owner, and as Meadow likely worked out by now, Tanis loves a good battle. Yet she was able to pull him away from that prospect and take a more peaceful approach, albeit likely giving Ivysaur a look that claimed he was stabbing an I.O.U on it. That doesn't normally happen. He may say it's because he owes her a Favor...
… But That's for everyone to decide!
But the trials and tribulations of the windy conditions that plagued the both of them severely affected Meadow in a similar way than it had done so with Tanis. With Tanis, his tails were in a constant losing battle to figure just which direction they would be pinned on a portion of his body, which he had given up a long time ago in an attempt to keep them straight and in their typical position. It's the only part of his body that wasn't transfixed in place except for his arms and legs of course, which meant that the violent gusts had propped them into all sorts of random positions as the walk began. Most typically either tugging them to one side of himself, pressed up against his back, or showcasing that his two tails can split themselves apart to some degree by being set in two vaguely different directions. But that did pale in comparison to the struggles that Meadow was having herself. As small as her own tail was, it too was being affected, though to a much lesser degree than Tanis' was. What was a lot more obvious was her ears, which also failed the straightness test and flapped wildly along with the wind's gusts. Tanis had never considered the fact that it could be too much of a problem until he witnessed it himself, yet there was no denying that having flappable ears would be a lot less convenient than two tails. Although he did have to admit that it was a little amusing to watch, in similar to regard that watching his tails flap wildly like her ears was likely entertaining to watch too. Tanis couldn't resist a small smile and an inward chuckle with himself on her ear predicament.
But the amusement didn't last when it became ever-so increasingly apparent that Meadow was actually struggling to actually maintain a forward momentum with the combination of a lugging bag that she decided to take for some reason, her broken foot and the otherwise perilous condition that they were both walking in. But it was the way that she seemed to be wielding the carrying compartment in question that seemed a little more awkward than it perhaps was supposed to be. Of course, Tanis was hardly one to actually say much of anything in that regard, considering that he was wearing his excuse of a bag across his stomach and chest, with the strap shaped along his back and right shoulder. It's put on that way more to protect the contents from blowing away as opposed to the reason that Meadow was using hers. Tanis did notice that it did seem a little bulky in comparison to Meadow's... Well... Just Meadow in general really. Nonetheless, it still seemed otherwise wieldy for her as far as he could fathom. It was being pressured against the wind with a lack of overall weight after Meadow had completed pushing it in order to advance further down the path. Which seemed about right considering all he recalled her taking was that parchment of supposed instructions and an address. It might have a few other bits and pieces that he doesn't know about, but obviously nothing that weighed her down too much. Nonetheless, she was clearly struggling under all of these conditions..
Although not quite as towering as Meadow may systematically claim him to be. Though perhaps towering from her own point of view, and indeed his own, to a Pokémon easily three times their size, the difference is minimal at most. Nonetheless, being a categorially small Pokémon with not that much more weight to his name than Meadow's, he is not exactly immune to the wind's gales affecting him, tough or not. Though what is true is how well he has been able to maintain his footing and not lose his balance or otherwise struggle to maintain a forward momentum when the wind is trying to resist him. There's no magical formula, or anything special that he's doing personally. In actual fact, Meadow is already fully aware of precisely how he's able to do it, as he had demonstrated it quite extensively to her, alongside her own knowledge on the matter: His paw makeup. As his climbing showcase proved, the tips of all four of his paws have a special design which allows him to grip to any sort of surface at any sort of angle. He proved it with Meadow's own paw, he proved it with a tree, he proved it with a rock. Now he is merely proving it once again using the ground that he is stepping on. Though only walking on two of his four paws, his paws grip into the ground snuggly and prevents him from going anywhere that he doesn't otherwise want to go. That's not to say that the elements aren't trying however, and the pressure that is being placed upon them is intense, yet isn't anything that he hasn't personally coped with before. It's actually intriguing just how much of an immobile object Tanis can be when he wants to be. In comparison, Meadow's struggles to keep herself from going anywhere but forward is considered a much more difficult task when her efforts are compared with what Tanis does to stop himself, which is not any much more different from what he normally does. Yet if just two paws is enough to keep him in place on the ground despite the horrific gale, how effective would all four of his paws on the ground be?
Though tough is still a viable secondary explanation!
Yet in spite of Meadow's own lack of an ability to stick herself to the ground moreso than Tanis can, she was still determined to press forwards regardless of what the weather had in store for her. That was made no more evident than the strain in her voice as she struggled with her push. First she moved the bag, then she moved herself, and the cycle repeated. She brushed aside Tanis' apology concerning his excellent time-keeping skills, and his lack of picking a clearer day for her. But as she confessed to him afterwards, is the one thing that Tanis has seen out of her before. Hiding within the pleasant and softer interior, lies a fighter with a determination and drive that not even her boss is able to quell. In much the same way that she had proven herself the last time they met up, she has proven that she is not going to let her broken and otherwise debilitating problem stop her from doing what she wants to do. Even Tanis, when he was injured, prevented himself from picking fight more than he would normally do, and avoided them because he considered himself not fit for purpose. Meadow, in the same stance, is easily in an equal predicament than he was in, if not larger in scale. Yet here she was, giving everything she had to her work. Her body may be failing her, but her determination is unmatched. Tanis had a feeling that she had a will stronger than his own once it's in the right place. After all, she was the one who made the decision to approach Tanis, she was the one who took a stand against Lucifer when she was at her worst, she is the one who is battling to make her delivery under a pressure that he imagined only a small pawful of Pokémon could compete with. It would be impossible to claim that you're tired, hurt, or otherwise unable to do anything when Meadow is in a situation that would flatten most, but still at least try to make a stand. This makes the third time she's doing it. It's emboldening, and Tanis recognises it. As such, he wasn't fussed about the speed that Meadow was taking to advance through her path. Tanis smiled again. Meadow was apologizing over nothing again Though instead of getting angry over hit, he instead brushed the apology off as her simply trying to accommodate the fact she was actually moving so slowly. Of course she was, anyone in her position would be. But she's making the attempt, and that's what counts in Tanis' books. He's far from going to tell her to stop, even if she shouldn't really be working in that condition.
Tanis had neglected to notice the windy conditions lighten up for a few brief moments as Meadow swapped the subject to what was pressing in her mind more than what she was trying to actively do. Her admittance of wanting to hide away when things turn south did somewhat line up with what he saw prior to seeing the scene with Meadow up against the rock. It somewhat looked like she wanted the rock to simply give way and swallow her up as opposed to wanting to face up against the imposing danger that was Lucifer. Of course, what he wasn't aware of was the sheer lengths that she took in reaching that position: How much hiding and running occurred as a direct result of it. Not to mention that she did appear as though she was beginning to accept her fate. Tanis couldn't deny the truth to her claim of wanting to hide away. At the same time however, what would that really accomplish? What he believed, upon his arrival to that scene, was that she got spurred on with the idea of fighting her way out as opposed to trying to run from it. That's exactly what she did, and although Tanis did technically run from that battle with Meadow in tow, that was under the prime decision that there wasn't going to be an actual resolution to the battle, which made the whole thing pointless. He said it while ferrying her back that she performed excellently in the fight, and though it is questionable whether it was the right call, for Tanis, it was the best solution in his mind. She stayed true to her word, and where she maybe could've hidden and not get involved, she stuck up for herself and fought back. Which led to the idea of Lucifer being an intense encounter as well. At first, Meadow's mention of the name 'Lucifer' resulted in a blank stare back at her. Lucifer's name was never mentioned to him before, and thus he spent the following few seconds pinning together that 'The white furred thing' was named Lucifer. Until Tanis made the connection, his gaze on Meadow was little more than a Pokémon who had been asked a question that he didn't have an answer for.
The moment he put that piece together was when the wind made its presence felt once more. Like Meadow, Tanis was caught by the sudden gust that threatened to finally topple him. For a single second, the surprise on his face and the fact his body reacted as a direct result told the full story that it wasn't something he was expecting all of a sudden. It had forced Tanis to take a side-step towards Meadow, in the direction the wind was blowing at the time. His right paw forced to re-plant on the ground after having skidded just an inch from where he was standing originally. His scarf and tails confirmed the very direction of the gusts as they both blew in Meadow's position. But as true to his usual form, Tanis doesn't end up going any further and remains on his two feet. That wasn't something he was expecting and had to accommodate for. What he also wasn't expecting was for Meadow to show such high concern for Tanis' own well-being. He somewhat expected that sort of behaviour from her, if he had to be honest about it. But he did think it would be somewhat restricted to a worded query or, in the example of his bandaged arm in his first meeting, instructing him and correcting it herself. So not only does Meadow seem to worry more about others more than she does herself, but she's actually more worried about them as well as opposed to herself. There she stood, a broken leg worse-off from an otherwise indescribable fate of death at the hands of Lucifer, yet she's more concerned over the thought that he may come after Tanis as a result of taking her side? To Lucifer's credit, he did force Tanis into the point of wanting to kill him himself, considering how serious the battle was at the time. But the Dark type had otherwise ruined it by staking the claim of not wanting to fight any more at that point. Maybe it had gotten more serious than he was willing to accept, or perhaps fighting two Pokémon smaller than him was too much to handle. But as Meadow placed a paw on Tanis' arm, he couldn't help but feel that perhaps there's more behind Meadow's meaning than what her words are expressing, like she wanted to ask something on the subject, but didn't actually want to ask it, for a reason that he didn't know. The word 'selfless' comes to mind, but that is a rude way for him to describe someone who puts others above themselves. He did actually think that her paw on his arm was actually to steady herself from toppling over, as opposed to anything else that he's overthinking.
Social interactions, not one of Tanis' strongest traits.
What he did understand however, was the amount of concern that was in her voice, and strewn on her face as Meadow posed that question to Tanis. Though he doesn't answer that question right away, he did have one retort to it that literally sounds just like him and showcases just how much self-confidence he has within himself, at least when a battle is concerned. "... I don't regret fighting against him, if that's what you're asking." He spoke in an unconcerned tone as well as a firm one. Unshakable and with no hesitation to his answer. It probably wasn't what Meadow wanted to know, but he did have a point in the back of his mind that perhaps she was concerned that he had made a drastic error in judgement and is perhaps wishing that he hadn't done it the moment he had committed to the fight. On the contrary, he relished in the complexities of a battle as much as the next Pokémon. He didn't think that far ahead in the future about what sort of repercussions he'd have to face by picking a side and going aggressive immediately. The situation at that point dictated that he had to act right then if he had any chance to get a battle, otherwise there wouldn't be an actual need for it as Lucifer would've claimed his prize and be on his way. The fact that the overall situation ended favourably, in that Tanis took the 'prize' away from Lucifer and he was left with berries in a bag, made the two of them the overall victors in that fight. That and the pair of them were still perfectly willing to continue battling in their defense. It was Lucifer who called it off, and in a manner that Tanis still has absolutely no idea behind the logic for. He understood that predators prefer to get meals as easy as they come, he wasn't a Carnivore himself, but he knew that much at least. What he didn't understand was the idea behind Lucifer's actual actions: He called off the battle, but still wanted his 'prize' to consume. Rage, arguments and emotions prevented much of the logic behind the words that transpired, which Tanis felt was going absolutely nowhere fast. But the simple premise behind 'nature', is that if your prey fights back, then you resist it, or you give up on it. Lucifer tried to do both, which is why he failed. And ultimately why he got some singed fur from a Solarbeam. If the predator loses the will to fight, but the prey is still willing, then the predator has lost. Pure and simple.
Of course, none of that was the question that Meadow asked. She actually asked about whether or not Lucifer would come after him as a result of protecting her. For that, there is only one response he has for it. It comes with a sly smile and a somewhat amused tone that showed it was a subject matter that, while he wasn't fully willing to discuss it, he would if that's where it derailed. "He's welcome to try! … Though he might bore me to death before then... I doubt he will..." Oh, Tanis relished in the thought of sinking his muscles into a second round against Lucifer to prove just who is truly stronger among them! Though the sad fact is that he was much more of a wordsmith than he was a battler, despite just how willing he was to 'attack' Meadow when she was at her weakest. He's an opportunist at most, and a wimp at worst. It's a real shame. Lucifer classed himself as an Assassin of some calibre, and he has some impressive and equally hard-hitting moves that can do some real damage to a Pokémon, Tanis will openly admit that fact. It's just a real shame that it's all wasted behind a blanket of that pathetic excuse for a mouth that spouts complete nonsense. Tanis has no time for it, and it shows with how 'highly' he speaks of Lucifer. "He's a sorry excuse for a Pokémon. End of story." The stern look Tanis gave to Meadow as he said that showed that he both meant it, and didn't care whatsoever about how strong, weak, amazing or meek Lucifer is. To him, Meadow herself has proven herself to be more competent in a battle than Lucifer is, in the fact that she was still willing to press it further when he would not. That and Tanis holds her in much more higher regard for more than one reason, not just for that one. Tanis had spent a little time trying to understand Lucifer's words, has failed, and thus has largely tried to forget about him. Added on the fact that he didn't want to dredge up arguably painful memories that Meadow may not want to relive, so he was content to completely change the subject to something else that he could think of. Which, unfortunately, only consisted of one thing right away.
"To be blunt..." Tanis continued, removing his eyes from Meadow's own black orbs to glance down at her legs, or more importantly, the one that she has been tenderly attempting to keep off the ground as much as she could. At least enough to stop a sudden shock of pain from rushing through her body. With his right arm grasped by Meadow's paw, which he has kept largely still and refrained from moving it any more than needed, he pointed at her dodgy leg with his other paw. Despite continuing to remain calm, he shares his own worry on a matter that troubled him. "... I'm more concerned about that... I didn't know it was that bad." When in the heat of the moment, he didn't fully understand just how much serious pain and trouble Meadow was in, certainly not to the point of having a broken ankle. He knew she was in some debilitating pain that had hampered her movement, but he didn't know until Ivysaur told him that it would take some time to recover. Only made more paramount simply watching her scale the trials and tribulations of the simple act of walking in harsh conditions once again. So far she has performed admirably, and has proven that she is continuing to maintain her independence, and her ability to work. He has simply tagged along, watching and slowly walking beside her as she pushed her bag, and herself, forwards. Tanis had little doubt she'd eventually make it to wherever the parchment is meant to go, but how long would it truly take her? That being said, Tanis is here with her to have that talk that she wanted to have, and is the response to the Favor he owes her. She's humble and he did think she was playing around with him just wanting to see him again... Returning his arm back to his side, his eyes returned to Meadow's before reciting the last of his words. "Would you like a hand?" He still stands by the idea that Meadow can handle herself, but he figured he'd throw the option to assist to her just on the off-chance she decides she'd rather have some help as opposed to struggling by herself and Tanis rudely just walking beside her and watching her struggle. After all, last time he didn't give her any choice in the matter: He gave her his help whether she wanted it or not. That being said, she was in such a state that she might not have given much of a coherent answer, so he effectively made the decision for her. This time though, this was her choice. She was independent, she could make the choice for herself. After posing the query, Tanis stood, watching quietly as his tails and scarf continued to both flap and point at Meadow, as if indicating that she is the star of this show.
Which she is, technically speaking.

The wind had picked up to the point where even Tanis was having a hard time keeping balance!
The Treecko began toppling over in her direction, causing the little Pichu to panic a bit. One reason was that Tanis was bigger than her, and to have anything bigger than her land on Meadow when she was already injured didn’t seem like a fun time. Another was the idea of Tanis falling and hurting himself, which she couldn’t say was the bigger concern of the two, but it was the one she acted upon.
Just as the Treecko looked like he was about to fall down, the little Pichu, with as much strength as she could muster, tried to push herself against him to ensure that he wouldn’t fall. Although she wasn’t the best weight, it was better than nothing. Seeing as he was also making the efforts not to fall, her own assistance certainly wasn’t hurting him. She hoped anyway.
Once the Treecko managed to balance himself, the Pichu sighed in relief, giving her friend a sweet smile as she pushed herself on her one well foot again. “That was close!” she commented. “Are you okay-?” It was at that moment she realized that her own balance was too unstable and ended up landing on her bum. “Ow…” Meadow said as she glared down at the ground while rubbing her rear. That really hurt! More than it should have in her personal opinion.
The Pichu pusher herself back on her good foot steadily, but swiftly (almost as if she’d done this before and recently), and brought her attention back to her Treecko friend. Her paw, however, remained on the Treecko’s arm. Tanis, in good Tanis fashion, still managed to answer her question when she considered the possibility of Lucifer going after Tanis. “Huh?” was her response to his initial answer. As for the rest of his first reply, as it came, Meadow didn’t quite know what to say or how to respond. This was the first time the little mouse considered something…
How much did Tanis really love to fight?
It was true that he at least loved it a little. After all, he wasn’t at all trying to avoid it during their confrontation with Lucifer. He may have been there to aid her, but she’d be a complete idiot if she didn’t notice how thrilled he was to see a challenge. In a way, it almost reminded her of her brothers, who were also quite fond of battling and couldn’t wait to evolve into Raichu to get even stronger.
In that regard, Meadow supposed she’d have to notice a major difference between herself and Tanis, though she honestly didn’t know how far he wanted to evolve, if he wanted to at all. She was content with the idea of becoming a Pikachu, but not to be stronger. She believed that her increase in size would help her become less useless than she already was. Proof enough already was her struggle to move her bag against the powerful gust of wind. However, Raichu would have been too much. After all, Raichu had feet that were rabbit like, and she could just imagine them smashing up her garden.
Battling was the least of Meadow’s concerns, so she honestly couldn’t see eye to eye with him in this regard.
That being said… he wasn’t pushy about her lack of battle prowess. He never once tried to force the Pichu to fight a foe even if she didn’t want to, which was something her brothers would do constantly. Well, maybe constantly was over exaggerating, but the point still stands, it was excessive. Tanis seemed to be content with doing all the fighting, and for someone who was battle hungry, she had to commend him for at least trying to talk to her properly. It didn’t seem like it was something he was completely confident with.
Meadow had to inwardly giggle at the thought. Tanis minus confidence? It almost gave her the impression that he was cute in an odd sort of way.
Still, the Treecko continued. As harsh as it seemed to talk to any Pokemon like that, even a Pokemon like Lucifer, Meadow eagerly nodded at the Treecko’s statement. “Mhm!” she agreed. “To kill a Pokemon just because you can? Why… Why it’s sickening!” The Pichu folded her arms and puffed her cheeks. The thought of Lucifer got her a little mad, but this face was much more docile and cute than the one she had when she was battling the Absol with her sharp tongue. “He’s nothing but a big bully, and a coward! I hope I never see him again!” The Pichu covered her mouth with the paw that wasn’t clasped to Tanis’s when she realized she had chatted a bit too much. Meadow giggled shyly at her sudden “outburst” and nodded for Tanis to continue.
However, when Tanis claimed that he was more concerned about “that” Meadow had to tilt her head. What she realized he was talking about her foot, the little mouse had to let out an equally little giggle. “Oh,” she cleared her throat, removing her paw from his. “Thank you for your concern,” she answered properly. “But… I’m sorry I’m making you feel that way. I just… I owe you so much, I don’t even… I don’t think I could ever do anything to repay you for saving my life the way you did.”
It was true. It didn’t really matter the Treecko’s true intentions. His main priority may have been to save her, or it may have been to battle the Absol. Whatever the case, the result was the same. Tanis decided to save Meadow over battling Lucifer, which really flattered the Pichu, and made her feel like he cared about her a lot. She honestly didn’t know if she could ever repay him for what he did for her.
When the Treecko offered her his paw as an act of assistance, Meadow felt something warm in her chest and stomach. It was a soft, gentle feeling, that was hard to describe. She honestly didn’t remember ever feeling it before. The only way she could describe it was a sort of happiness. Perhaps she felt comforted? Whatever the case, Meadow couldn’t keep the smile that shone on her face as she placed her paw back into his. “I,” she paused, looking down at the ground. “I truly hate the idea of being a burden to you, but…” she paused again. “I am slowing us down quite a bit, and I do admit I am struggling. So… If you truly don’t mind, I would greatly appreciate your assistance.”
Meadow knew what this feeling was now! She sometimes had a taste of it when Ivysaur would do sweet things for her. Huh… She did seem to have a lot of those kinds of gruff Pokemon in her life, didn’t she? But… somehow this was expanded upon. Perhaps this was what it was like to truly have a friend?
If that was the case, she never wanted to stop being Tanis’s friend. She had a feeling, through his actions, that they’d be friends for a long time!

The elements, as natural as they appear to broadcast itself were, in large part, causing tremendous grief towards the pair. Only made worse by the calamity that the pair had been forced to endure. In hindsight, it could be considered that not even standing two feet tall, neither of them would be as impacted about the gusting of the gales as compared to, say, Ivysaur, who easily towered over them both twice over. The key difference however, is that he has the weight to compensate for the push that Tanis' body was blistered by. Admittedly, Meadow is the lightest among everyone and is the one more effected by it all things considered. The ultimate difference, was that Tanis wasn't paying attention to the fact that the winds had temporarily ceased their continuous bombardment, and his mind had wandered to somewhere where his body wasn't. So the moment the gust blew over them again, Meadow was much more prepared for it than Tanis was. That was what forced his instincts to kick in at that moment. He had neglected to compensate for the fact that he was in close proximity to Meadow herself at that moment. As that single side-step, alongside the wind's push that skidded him in that direction, was enough for her paws to contact his side. Tanis hadn't realized at the time that's what had happened, being a little more attentive on the idea of not wanting to go in that direction. By the time his side connected with Meadow's paws, he had almost gotten himself situated planted on the ground again in the same manner he had been: Contesting the wind and toes stuck firmly on the path. What he couldn't stop however was his tails, as while the rest of himself was back under control, they were just all over the place. And with the wind having pushed him towards Meadow, there's only one direction those tails of his were facing as well. They were already set in that particular direction as he skidded briefly, so by the time Meadow winded up with an armful of them, it was much less of a physical strike and more of a 'I'm here now!' moment. Regardless, the combination of the pair of them aided in preventing Tanis from tumbling to who knows where down the road, much like a Hoppip flying uncontrollable in the windy skies!
That, alongside with her own balance issues through trying to balance all of her weight on one sustainable leg, caused the inevitable. Tanis was so much focused on his own dilemma that he hadn't realized Meadow's own until she was virtually two-thirds of the way to the ground. She had fallen backwards and the look she was giving seemed almost identical to the own Tanis gave, albeit with some minor differences, but generally conveyed the same thing. The only physical difference between them, was she was going down and she couldn't stop herself. Tanis barely had any time to outstretch the arm that Meadow had been holding onto in a vain attempt to grab her before she went down, but the simple act only saw him standing there with his right arm partially outstretched towards a grounded mouse who suddenly had a strong distaste for the very ground she had been walking on. Meadow glared at the ground as if she was expecting it to apologize for hurting her as she rubbed the part of her that she landed on. That begun an otherwise quiet moment between the two as Tanis simply watched the scene unfold before him. In contrast, she at least landed in the best position, whether controlled or otherwise, if you were going to hit the ground. She would maybe have different thoughts going through her mind if she winded up landing on her head or against her arm, that's when some real damage can happen. Of course, she's the last Pokémon that needs to be retaught that lesson. Tanis kept his arm stretched out and tense, waiting for her to grab it to help herself up. But it turned out to be a needless asset, as she plucked herself off the ground with a style of grace that he had not seen before, but was definitely applicable to Meadow's situation, and while not quite as free-flowing as what he could class as 'normal', it worked to a specification that it got her standing upright once again with little fuss, and as it turned out, little pain. Not only that, but the arm wasn't required to do it. Well, she said that she could do things herself, and that was just another shining example on how she can do so.
That didn't actually stop her from grabbing his arm though.
Not that Tanis held too much of a problem with it as such. After all, he gathered the reason was to steady herself, to keep herself from being blown away, or both. But more interesting is just how comfortable she seems to be doing so. In their first meeting, she only touched him once, only after Tanis said she could do so. The Lucifer encounter saw her grabbing his tails. While that wasn't something that Tanis directly said she could do, he did drop his tails to Meadow's grounded state at the time in an attempt to keep her reassured during that moment in time, that is of course ignoring the fact that she started yelling back at Lucifer not long after, but that's a minor and overlooked detail that Tanis figured was just her getting fed up of the situation as a whole rather than anything else. While Tanis has concluded that the reason Meadow's got hold of him this time is because of the weather and her leg, he never did give her any sort of proper permission to do it. Is she wrong? Not exactly. He never said yes, but he's had amply opportunity to push her away or otherwise tell her to let him go, but has not done so. This situation, while perhaps precarious, is not without its just cause or reasoning, and while neither has said anything about that reason, Tanis at least doesn't dispute the claim. At any rate, this is yet another one of Meadow's confidence moments that she otherwise says she is lacking. He's the one who has at least tried to bring it to light once or twice, so why stop now? He allows his arm to relax, or relax enough that he's not trying to lift up a fallen Pichu anyway, He allows a small smile to escape his mouth as Meadow thought intently about... Well, he didn't know what it was actually. Whatever it was, it seemed to be riling her up just a little bit, which he suspected was a direct response to him having brought up the fight in response to her. Oops...
Meadow never did inquire about Tanis' love for a fight. Although she may have garnered some hints that he did with their first meeting with him all bandaged up and still recovering from the Growlithe encounter, alongside him literally jumping at the chance of a battle in the making with Lucifer. So her initial conclusion on the matter is completely accurate, bar one addendum: He loves to battle, a lot! Battling a Growlithe could be considered as suicidal to most Grass types, and they would be correct, but trying to tell that to Tanis has the same effect of trying to force a gust of wind to stop in its tracks. That's not to say that he gets himself involved with every single battle that takes place... Just most of them. The rest he spectates or gets dragged into, likely by something of his own doing. The battle with Lucifer was a combination of him having not battled in a week alongside being around an otherwise peaceful community, most of the time. So to spot two Pokémon that one of which looked like they wanted to dance, how could Tanis possibly resist the temptation to dance to that same tune. From his point of view, Lucifer looked ready to attack, while Meadow was not, it was simple logic in his opinion. After all, if one Pokémon was eager for a fight and the other was not, and Tanis himself wanted a fight just as much, then the math was simple. The fact that the Pokémon not wanting to fight being Meadow simply made the decision even easier to make. If anything, it gave him a side to fight with, and it turned out to be the one that got him into the fight, which worked out perfectly fine with him. He didn't regret the choice he made to siding with Meadow for three reasons: It got him his fight, or at least a part of one, Lucifer looked like a strong Pokémon, and he wanted to test his mettle against him, and finally, it just seemed right to him. Perhaps some Pokémon would ignore the scene, or intervene in a non-battle way to try and defuse the situation and have Meadow survive that way. Tanis wouldn't deny that it could've worked... But that would imply that he knew what to say in regards to that to keep Meadow safe. The simple fact is, he didn't, but that also implied that was his original intention, which it wasn't.
Tanis' mind, when he wants to battle, or agitate someone into going after him, is pretty straightforward. When he wants it, he'll try a trick or two in an attempt to get the other Pokémon emotional with him enough to lash out. Success is varied, hence with the Lucifer example, he pushed the fight himself. He did try to force the fight first of all, which simply resulted in the Absol trying to talk his way out. When that failed, Tanis attacked. Even during the stand-off, Tanis tried numerous times to get him to attack, again it failed, and it was Meadow who lashed out first at that point. Just goes to show how effective it can be. What he would disagree with Meadow on however, is the reasons to fight. Getting stronger is indeed one reason to do so, but that being the only reason is wrong and she knows it. She was involved in another such reason for Pokémon to fight: Survival. Pokémon low on the food chain often times are prey to predators in some manner, and are forced to fight to keep themselves alive for another night. But there's a third reason that is applicable for Tanis, which is simply the idea that battling is fun! Trading moves and expressing oneself by clashing against one another is an excellent form of entertainment that no money could buy. Much like how Meadow enjoys tending to her garden and working at the flower shop, Tanis enjoys the thrill of the fight, pure and simple. Those three are not the only reasons of course, there are easily double figures of reasons that Pokémon battle. Meadow may have purposely forgotten it, or otherwise ignored the idea, but Tanis did actually try to push Meadow into a fight in their first meeting. He pushed her a couple of times with responses that could've, and maybe should've, angered her to the point of lashing out at him, a signal of a battle no less. Meadow didn't budge an inch, in fact, she responded to the otherwise aggressive remarks by remaining calm and friendly throughout it all and most importantly, she kept talking with him. That is what has got the pair of them to where they are today. She didn't give up on her own push, whereas Tanis gave up on his. He knows at this point that Meadow is not a fan of fighting and has not pushed the issue further any more than that. She pushed her against Lucifer merely because if she didn't, she was literal food, pure and simple. Why would he try to instigate a battle with her now for seemingly no reason, he wouldn't do that at this point. That's not to say he wouldn't be opposed to sparring with her at some stage of course, though only with consent and just that, sparring. She's held no interest in such a thing either, so that has remained undisclosed as well.
Meadow spoke, sternly and with as much disdain and disgust to a Pokémon as could be considered bitter enemies. It was clear the moment she spoke that what she thought of Lucifer was so much more different than with Tanis himself. It was such a sharp contrast that it felt... Refreshing, almost to the point of adoring. The sharp tongue she brandished simply at the mere thought of Lucifer, or anything in relation to him reawakened every speck of hatred and spite that she had of him. If the mere mention of his name was enough to hex or curse him, Tanis would easily have pegged him as dead on the spot. Meadow effectively echoed everything that was on Tanis' own opinion of him, minus the bully part. Sickening, cowardly. Perfect definitions. Tanis didn't really see anything that was remotely bully-ish over his behaviour any more than himself. Though other words to describe him does spring to mind. Idiotic, boring, but still rather strong. Which was a real shame, if Lucifer had spoken with his actions rather than with his words, that battle really could have gone either way! What's done is done however, and while there are still some lingering 'scars' and no absolute victor, Tanis felt that they came out on the positive end of things. Meadow seemed almost apologetic for her sudden outburst as she covered her mouth briefly with her other paw. What Tanis saw was three clear points in her statements. Obviously just how much she hated the situation as a whole, which anyone could easily admit to, Tanis included. Literally just how much she despises Lucifer and would likely rather evolve into a Raichu than see him again. But also just how much she doesn't think that way about Tanis himself. He has been in the front of plenty of verbal heat, with quite a few words thrown in along with it. But this is the first time that he's actually seen a Pokémon direct her frustrations and anger at another Pokémon, while at the same time be friendly towards himself. It's... Abnormal, but far from a terrible thing. Just different seeing it from a different angle.
That was not the end of things that were different however. Tanis' remark about her foot didn't go unnoticed in any way. Admittedly, he wasn't expecting too much of a response from it, perhaps a remark on how painful it is or that she's fine despite it. The small giggle she first gave was only the start of what he was far from expecting. The bombshell that hit him with those words left him virtually speechless. Him not saying too much is not that uncommon that him having nothing to say is anything unusual, Meadow knows this more than anyone. But he has never, ever, been struck with a compliment of that size and calibre before that virtually weighed the entire thing on his shoulders to a degree that, for the first time, made him realize just how much that combined weight was. He's done Favors for Pokémon, as well as doing random assorted things that could be considered saving someone from whatever was going on. A general thank you or appreciation is the limit to what he received in exchange, if not some sort of material reward as such. That about sums up the limitation to Tanis doing things, both good and bad, especially bad, and the limit to what he got in exchange. Appreciated, sure, but never exaggerated. Meadows words continued to ring through his mind multiple times after she spoke them. It wasn't matter of factly, and it wasn't a slip of the tongue, genuine words of how she felt about the matter. Namely, she is absolutely right and Tanis had been downplaying it the whole time! The entire things was entirely circumstantial, perhaps even a huge stroke of luck on Meadow's part that it all fell into place as it all did, and she is here today to speak of it.
Tanis knew full well how desolate those woods were. He had spent the best part of that day wandering around and didn't encounter a single thing, for a battle or otherwise. The woods are huge, many places available to stop and rest or hang around at. Yet he just so happened to be nearby when he heard Meadow on the other side of the huge rock she tried to climb. Tanis made the decision to climb the rock and investigate what was going on, where he otherwise could have simply walked on and ignored it. He was the one who intervened once he found out what was going on, and he was the one who took Meadow's side in the altercation. He was the one who decided to ultimately flee once the opening was created, where he easily could've stayed and continued the fight. And, finally, he was the one who took Meadow with him when he did flee, where saner Pokémon more interested in self-preservation may have left her behind. All of these decisions that Tanis made by himself, and no other secondary force, by Meadow's own claim, is the reason she is standing here with him today. Considering all of that, and how sincere and honest Meadow's tone and words were, Tanis could easily see why she'd say that. Of course she would be so grateful to him, anyone would be. The look she got as she expressed her gratitude to him was like something just clicked and he just understood something very important. Like a deer through headlights. His glance on Meadow wouldn't last though. This was most definitely the first time that he had received words that heavy of magnitude that expressed not only Meadow's appreciation, but simply the fact that his actions literally saved an actual life, that represented a huge responsibility that he had managed to deliver a satisfactory conclusion not only to himself and Meadow, but those around them. Tanis wasn't able to keep eye contact with her after he absorbed her words, to leave a permanent imprint in his mind. Tanis looked away, covering his eyes and nose with his unhindered left paw, glancing to his side and at least attempting to not look all flushed or embarrassed by her words.... Failing at both spectacularly! He wanted to say something back, something, anything, to reassure her that it wasn't a problem, or that anyone would've done it, anything that would downplay his role in what she's otherwise describing as a pivotal and dramatic change in her life. But that's just the thing, she was staring at death, and teeth, and was but a few short moments from otherwise certain death. Injured, weakened, powerless. Yet, as if by some miracle from the gods themselves, she was saved and given a second wind by perhaps the least likeliest of Pokémon she was expecting. What is anyone supposed to say to that? Tanis didn't know, and his brain was completely frazzled to think of anything that would even hold a candle to any of it. So he chose to keep silent. Meadow displayed how she felt about it in front of him, he would not contest it and instead let her feel better about herself now that she said it. He did have to admit to himself that it is with a great sense of pride that he sunk in every word. Tanis does manage to show a grin and a light chuckle in the aftermath, which only further cemented just how flustered he got.
Meadow's paw is what bought Tanis' gaze back to her again, as for a third time, Meadow grabs a hold of him, this time to his paw as opposed to his arm. In an excellent follow-up to his query to her, she admitted that she was struggling in the conditions that she was in, which was more than evident, and she wouldn't mind some help. Tanis had a feeling that she did struggle just a little with that confession, judging by her downward gaze and her starting hesitance. Yet further proof of just how far they've both come already. Meadow had always concerned herself over others first before herself, it seems only fair that someone looks out for her in the same way. That wasn't something Tanis would have ever considered with her before now, times do change though, as does Tanis' opinions. It was a little bit obvious that she was struggling, but he had clung to the idea that she wanted to prove she could still be independent despite her injury. She still can be, but she's still not afraid to admit that she could do with a helping paw every once in a while. All Pokémon does, healthy or not, this is no different. Admittedly, he still felt they would be going at a slower pace than what could be considered as normal walking speed, but then he expected that coming to see Meadow today. He wasn't expecting a delivery to be made, but he knew walking would be slow. So that fact didn't bother him at all.
Nonetheless, the simple fact was, if he did mind in helping Meadow, he would not have offered to give her a helping paw. That said paw, being the one that Meadow doesn't have a hold of, is spent not actually helping Meadow at first, but instead in taking temporary custody of her bag. Having been somewhat forgotten in front of them both after the near calamity Tanis had, and the one Meadow had, Tanis slings the bag around his left side, and onto his back, keeping it in place with one of the straps hooked over his left shoulder. This left him carrying two otherwise light bags, both of which carrying necessities, in his opinion. He took the bag for one simple reason: If he's going to be assisting Meadow with travelling, then it'll be far easier without having to flop the bag around every two or three steps. He did consider simply carrying Meadow on his back as opposed to her bag, and that would be the more faster option. The last time he did that, it was a spur of the moment from a combination of wanting to use his Quick Attack to leave rapidly, and Meadow's otherwise lack of mobility at the time. She's shown she can move now. So he figured taking flopping the bag out of the equation is an excellent first step. As for assisting with the walking... Well, Meadow already had a hand in the action from that. He doesn't hint that second portion right away, instead he states the one thing that's on his mind at the moment. Which is him finally responding to Meadow's gratitude from earlier. His expression is light, and a bit awkward from a moment he has little experience with. "... You do know how to make someone feel better, Meadow." The response is followed by another light chuckle and grin as he meets what he hopes is hers, if the ground is not more appealing from her asking for his assistance. Her thoughts are partially right, in spite of her thanks. If she had asked him why he helped her at their first meeting, Tanis' response would've been the battle, no question. The reality now is that reason still holds true, a pending battle is a more than sizeable enough reason to invoke him getting involved without hesitation. Things have changed in regards to Meadow herself however, in that she has reached the same sort of pinnacle as the Sewaddle line and a few other Pokémon Tanis knows that aren't from Invictus. Namely, "I'd do it again in a heartbeat. You can be sure of that." Meadow is a Pokémon that Tanis has dubbed as friend, firmly confirmed in her ears and to anyone who inquires to him about it. And he has zero problems in declaring it: Meadow is firmly under his protection. In that similar situation, he'd jump into her aid regardless. The fact a battle's involved is an additional and welcome bonus. Meadow's a friend, and friends are protected, simple as.
Abandon hope all ye whom Meadow declares a bully!
But, that is for a time where Meadow's life is ever in danger. The only danger it is in right now is seizing up from lack of movement, if that's even a thing. So now Tanis reaches phase two of the two part plan. With the bag firmly on his back and not in any danger of being pushed along the ground, or more importantly getting in their way, it's time to get them moving again. The conclusion that Meadow has been holding onto Tanis' arm for stability and easier walking movement is the other reason he didn't just sling her on his back. Why she opted to take his paw now as opposed to his arm, that segment he didn't quite understand so much, but he wasn't going to argue whatever plan she had behind it all. "Now then..." Tanis stated as he clenched his right paw firmly, but loosely, around Meadow's paw. Whether she intended that or not. Tanis' demeanour returned to a slightly more serious stance, an indication that he's getting back to the business of Meadow's... Business. Namely, the delivery. By grasping Meadow's paw as well as her doing it to him, it's additional stability that she isn't going to immediately slip away if she loses her grasp. She knows how much of a struggle it was to break free of just one of Tanis' fingers latched onto her paw, should be intriguing to see if it'll happen with at least two of those fingers on opposable sides of her paw! She'd need a lot more force to get that paw loose, that or ask Tanis to let go, that would also work. So now she has a portable crutch she can exert force to, to help with her walking. This alongside his (questionable) stability to help with the strong gusts should get them to wherever they're going. He has no idea where they're actually headed to, the only one who does is Meadow, and technically Ivysaur. Tanis pauses only for a brief moment more to readjust his silk scarf, which was continually blowing into Meadow's direction. With them both now going to walk closer together, he wanted to try and avoid having it brush her head or ears. Not something that he'd want to have happen himself personally, so if he could avoid doing it to her, it would help with her concentration with her pace and not putting weight on the broken foot. "I've not done this before... This is... Different..." This was highly unorthodox. He's carried Pokémon, he'd escorted Pokémon, he's dragged Pokémon, but he's never actually walked with anyone by the paw and acted as something for them to hold onto. Still, he wasn't going to go back on his word, not now. "... Alright. At your ready." The pace was on Meadow, as he wasn't going to set the pace and find he's going too fast. As for direction... Well, that's Meadow's department as well. He's simply going to follow what she does and goes where she goes, staying firmly plastered half a pace from her left side and his paw locked together with hers. One way or another, Meadow is making her delivery. Tanis will prove to that dopey Ivysaur that she can do it.

The Pichu’s lips twitched, and a smile was formed. The Treecko was complimenting her on her sweet nature whilst not realizing how sweet his own words were to her. “Oh,” Meadow giggled as she shyly looked at the ground beneath her again. “You know, I’m only telling the truth. You seem to be interested in returning a favor, even though you saved my life. You don’t owe me anything, Tanis. But I’m very happy that you’re here with me right now.”
It was the truth, like everything she’d said so far. The Pichu was quite thrilled with her friendship with Tanis, and showed no signs on wanting him to leave anytime soon. She hoped he thought the same way about her, but in order to keep him from feeling any undue pressure, she kept these thoughts to herself. However, she couldn’t really deny any of Tanis’s words about her, either.
She did have the tendency to think about others ahead of herself. This, of course, could be quite the detriment because of her physical strength. She’d often times become a burden when she rushed to help someone in ways she didn’t really know how. The difference between her interaction with Tanis and her interactions with other Pokemon was that she couldn’t really voice her concern properly. Often times, she’d start mumbling nonsense.
But with Tanis, it was quite different. She didn’t know if it was an instinct or what, but Meadow just felt like they had to be friends. Like, if she wasn’t his friend, no one else would be. It made more sense when Meadow found out that Tanis was an Outlaw from Lucifer. She didn’t want to believe that at first, but it was something she had slowly accepted. However, other Pokemon, like Ivysaur, weren’t so eager.
Speaking of Tanis being an Outlaw that would be something they would have to talk about at one point or another, no matter how much they wanted to avoid it. And by golly, she really wanted to avoid it. Maybe it would have had to be a conversation they have as soon as this delivery was done. She needed to choose her words wisely. She certainly didn’t want to ruin her friendship with Lucifer over something like this.
There was one thing she would point out though. “Tanis,” Meadow continued. “I just… I think you’re a really good Pokemon.” That was it. That would be something she would let him know. That no matter what conversation they would have, rather heated or not, Meadow was already convinced from the start that Tanis was good. The Pichu looked back up to Tanis and smiled. “I hope you know that.” The Pichu lightly squeezed her friend’s hand.
This changed when Tanis said he would do it again in a heartbeat. Meadow had assumed it was because he liked fighting when he said it the first time, but the fact that he emphasized it caused Meadow to think that, maybe, that wasn’t the case this time. Especially since she had said that she would never doing anything good enough to repay him. The little Pichu released his paw for just a moment, and wrapped her short arms around his waist as much as she could. The Pichu nuzzled her face into his side before backing away. The little mouse placed her hand in Tanis’s once again, and for the first time, she didn’t apologize for hugging him.
Yeah, hugs would just have to be something he’d have to get used to if he was gonna be that sweet.
Whatever the case, Meadow realized that, perhaps, the two of them were getting just a little too sidetracked. She loved the conversation they were having, but they had a job to do. They would have plenty of time for this afterward.
Which made her dread her conversation about him being an Outlaw more, because she’d rather have conversations like these.
Meadow watched as the Treecko grabbed Meadow’s bag and wrapped it around himself, proving that her size was the thing that kept her from carrying that thing properly. Boy, she couldn’t wait to evolve. He then settled his grip around her paw, and the Pichu did the same. Meadow brought herself as close to Tanis as she could without getting in his way of motion. “Alright, now!” With more support, the Pichu could now send her sights on the home they were headed to. Now that Meadow had support and not something that slowed her down, the two Pokemon were making quick progress on their way.
Meadow was a little more silent at this point, the Pichu more focused on her task of movement than her conversation with Tanis at the moment. At the moment, the only thing that kept them from getting to their destination promptly was the wind blowing at them, and her caution with her injured foot.
As they finally approached their destination, Meadow placed a paw on Tanis’s arm as a notion to stop him from moving. The little mouse released his paw and started moving on all three. “This is Ms. Teddiursa’s house,” Meadow explained. “I make deliveries here all the time, but… I don’t recall her every being particularly interested in Marigold before. Must be a new taste.” The Pichu raised herself and her paw to knock on the door, but then found herself unable to do so.
It wasn’t really all that surprising. It was something she would always do while making deliveries. It was a sort of routine she would put herself through just to converse with another Pokemon. Meadow glanced at Tanis and could feel her cheeks flush. Boy, this was embarrassing! Why couldn’t she just knock on the door? Pressured by Tanis’s presence, Meadow breathed in and let out a sigh before timidly knocking on the door.
In a few moments, a female Teddiursa opened the door, and smiled upon seeing the familiar Meadow standing there. “Meadow! It’s so nice to see you again!” Teddiursa greeted with a smile. Meadow tried hard to reflect that smile, but a side of Meadow Tanis had never bared witness before was now present. The Pichu struggled to force her voice box working, and like always, Meadow and Teddiursa were standing in silence. “So…” Teddiursa, like always, took the awkward tension with stride. “What brings you and your friend-” Teddiursa had to have a double take when she saw Tanis standing there.
Meadow finally got her voice to work. “I-I’m here to… um… I… uh… um…” Suddenly her voice started fading.
However, Teddiursa wasn’t even paying attention to what the Pichu was trying to say. “Oh, Meadow!” The warm hearted Teddiursa pulled the Pichu into a literal bear hug. “You did it! You actually socialized! You’ve made a friend! How is that possible?! Unless…” The bear smirked as she glanced back and forth between Tanis and Meadow. The Teddiursa brought herself closer to Meadow to whisper something in the Pichu’s ear. Something that wasn’t meant to be heard by Tanis.
“WHAT?!” Meadow shrieked so loud her voice echoed across the horizon. The volume cause Meadow to cover her red face, and struggle to get a hold of herself. “Uh, no! I mean… We… We’re not… That’s not why…” Meadow groaned and shook her reluctance out of herself. “We’re here to deliver this to you!” Meadow rushed over to Tanis and retrieved the instructions in the bag. She went back over to Teddiursa, handed it to her, and Meadow straightened herself out.
Teddiursa scanned the info and smiled. “Yes, yes,” she nodded. “Expect an order for Marigolds heading your way!” Teddiursa opened the door to allow the two to enter. “Would you two like to come in? We can set up quite the romantic-”
“No!” Meadow said suddenly before covering her mouth again. “I-I mean… no, Ma’am. Um… We’ve got um… other plans. Right, Tanis?” Meadow eyed Tanis in a manner that told him just to follow her lead.

Meadow had actually bought up an interesting and very valid point in response to Tanis' initial comment. Tanis had admitted to himself that his display in the woods, as crazy or as wild as it was, was the driving force that led to Meadow's survival. Of course he'd still say that she played her own role on that too, her willingness to battle improving her odds. But, what about that Favor… Tanis believed prior to today that he visited her today for two reasons, and the Favor was one of them, the other to check on how she was doing since he hadn't seen her after dropping her off that day. He didn't put any sort of thought on the idea that he may or may not think the Favor that he owed her beforehand by seeing Meadow again, as was the agreed plan, could be repaid via another method. That wasn't something that had ever crossed his mind, nor from what he could recall be a situation that he'd been in before. Sure, he's helped escort Pokémon before, and attacking wannabe opponents that sought to do them harm could technically construe as the same thing. Or perhaps Meadow thought that the battle they shared with Lucifer was the meeting that they'd agreed upon. Technically she would be right thinking that, there wasn't a proper clause as to where they'd meet or what the situation would be at that point. The only actual Favor she wanted was to meet and talk again. The former definitely happened, no arguments, the latter however, that was skipped over because of the actual situation that had occurred. It was that reason that Tanis decided that it wasn't a proper fulfilment of the Favor, and thus it was not paid back. To think it could be paid back, in full by her opinion, by saving her life, that was something that made a whole lot of sense now that Tanis actually considered it and was no longer downplaying it as just a thing that happened.
However, all of this implied one other very important fact to be true: That it was considered, and that Tanis held no gesture to Meadow afterwards. Whether Meadow believes it or not, Tanis hadn't considered her Favor paid in full, he still doesn't think it has yet. However, Meadow is a bit of a special case in this situation, not so much because of what had transpired so far, though it had helped, but due to her demeanour and what she has done over what he has. For those who he has granted Favor for in the past, for one reason or another, typically ended once that Favor was fulfilled. Reasons would be to find or steal something for food, pay back for assisting him with something, dealing with a Pokémon in exchange for preventing blackmail, and endless other reasons, some better left unexplored. There have been a few exceptions to this case, primarily those he considers as friends. The best example is the Sewaddle group whom he had the pleasure of being under their care for his major recovery period. He still didn't fully understand why they helped him specifically, but he vowed that he would help every Pokémon in that line in any way he could at any time. He's only had one instance since leaving that group's location to do that, but the offer is still very much in place. Whether wanted or not, any Sewaddle or evolved form is immediately a friend to Tanis, no questions asked. There are more than just those particular Pokémon, mostly those who continuously benefitted from his services in exchange for something they know he needs. For Meadow, she represents a unique Pokémon that he couldn't help but be intrigued by. A strong-willed yet polite and kind Pokémon who wastes no time in assisting someone else, whether they want it or not, at the drop of a bag. A friendly exterior and with a big heart on the inside, there also exists a small fire of aggression that Tanis suspects takes a lot to ignite, but once it does, he suspects she's more violent than even he can be. He doesn't consider the ideas that she's a chatterbox at times as well as very emotional too much as he'd rather not pay too much attention to those 'faults', but that's simply what makes her who she is. Meadow is humble, and that's the truth. She has done quite a few things for Tanis, even during the Lucifer encounter that she may not have picked up on herself, and yet she has asked for nothing in return where much lesser Pokémon would have done so. Judging by how she's been acting and talking with him so far today, she isn't in a rush to do so now either.
This has brought her into this small circle that only a few have managed to worm their way into. Definitely the first Pokémon to have done so since he arrived at Invictus. There is just something about Meadow's entire combination of traits that he can't dislike. While everything else that she does is a good contribution to her cause, it was her ability to fight back that he admired the most. Of course Tanis is a battler, so of course that would play a major part of who he trusts and dislikes. Meadow can fight, and she does it well enough to defend herself, as all Pokémon should be able to do. It is a little strange to consider especially since their first meeting did leave him with the impression that she may not be all that experienced at the art of battle. Yet when she was at her weakest point, she delivered, and delivered to a spectacular standard. The fact that she held her own against a Pokémon who Tanis knew had the capabilities to kill them both where they stood is something to applaud. Only a pawful of Pokémon that he can recall off the top of his head he knew showed they could do that. Tanis could also argue that her silver tongue also contributed heavily towards their escape as well as further cementing his opinion of her, though in all honesty he doesn't really recall everything that she said. The intensity in which she spoke to Lucifer however, that was a thing of beauty, easily surpassing anything Tanis could do, and he could tell it was having an effect on Lucifer too. Everything has combined nicely into a neat package where Meadow is a Pokémon that Tanis holds in high regard. She holds a priority over other Pokémon as far as he's concerned, an opinion he's held since the aftermath of that fight. Anyone who can fight that intensely is a good Pokémon in his book. The rest of all that she's done and how she has been around him has simply cemented what he'd already concluded. Until that point, Meadow was merely a Pokémon who came to him, friendly, but catious towards her, much like many other Pokémon. With this in mind, Favors really lose a lot of their meaning now that she's in a position that Tanis considered a friend. They're less Favors and more just doing them. So whether the Favor was repaid as a result of him saving her from Lucifer or not is no longer important.
Of course, he hasn't exactly said that to her yet...
Meadow echoed his thoughts with her declaration of him being 'good'. That's a statement that holds so many meanings, but perhaps not the one that she wants to peg him with specifically. Then again, that has the same effect as Tanis declaring that she is good as well, which also has a different meaning under his eyes. As tempted as he was to stand and correct her opinion, discretion won the day as he wasn't convinced at all that anything he'd say would sway her mind at the moment. After all, that opinion is based solely on what she's seen him do, which has been.... Questionable, but otherwise socially acceptable actions that doesn't really pertain to the term 'Outlaw' that is broadly known, perhaps even to the point of querying whether he's even an Outlaw in the first place. His declaration of saying he'd help her again in a heartbeat similarly held multiple meanings, but he meant exactly what he meant in all meanings of the phrase. Yes, he'd jump into most battles in a heartbeat, that was obvious by this point, but with Meadow involved, she can bet that he'll take her side. Just another benefit that comes with having Meadow pegged as his friend, which is unfortunately something that she'd have to put up with herself. The momentary silence that followed was broken only by her attempting to get her paw free, which Tanis noticed immediately and let her go, glancing in her direction with a quizzical look on his face. Only to be met moments later by her throwing her arms around his stomach and lower back, clenching them together, or as much as she could with him in the way. Tanis' only response was to lift his arms up slightly, thinking that she was perhaps trying to do something or she saw something on him and was trying to smack it off. Though all Meadow did was place her arms on him, and lightly rub her face against his side, not exactly something someone would do if they were striking or removing something. The entire ordeal lasted only a few seconds in total before she pulled away again and reached out to grab Tanis' paw again. She seemed content and happy with her hug, definitely not a different emotion from after Tanis arrived at the shop, but as Tanis took her paw again, he was left confused and having no idea just what she was even doing. Did she smell something off from him? Was there something wrong? That wasn't something that anyone had ever done before, either to him or to anyone that he recalled. Tanis opened his mouth as he considered querying what she was playing at, before deciding against it and just letting it slide. If there was something off, or something wrong, he figured Meadow would've told him afterwards. Since she didn't, and instead looked ready to continue the walking, he boiled it down to another one of her quirks that he should probably look out for. He can quiz her about what it's all about at a more quieter and less busier time.
The method they ended up employing this time around proved much more serviceable than Meadow trying to limp her way down the path flopping the bag around in front of herself. As projected, Tanis had Meadow lead the way, but always remained directly by her side specifically since he wanted her to use him as support for her foot. Though she was still showing an obvious sign of limping, which was to be expected, it seemed to prove somewhat effective. Tanis' hold remained as solid as a rock and not once did his grip from her slip regardless of whether hers did or not, she went nowhere that was not within his arm's reach. The wind proved to be a formidable foe and continued to pester the pair as they travelled. Most pressing was when the wind was blowing against Meadow's side that Tanis was not blocking, not a permanent issue, but one that did slow them down just a little. Meadow proved an excellent navigator, pointing at an upcoming turn to take, and never once left Tanis in the wind in wondering where to go next. Though he didn't know where he was actively going himself, he was never left not knowing which direction to take. They remained mostly silent otherwise, which Tanis hardly minded. He wasn't concerned by that fact as most with a job or a goal in mind usually focus on that rather than anything else, even himself. Though it was the first time he led a Pokémon by the paw as opposed to some other method, Meadow didn't make it troubling in the least. It didn't match his usual pace, but like the silence, he wasn't concerned by it considering her state, to expect otherwise would've been foolish, even for him. By the time they arrived at the house that Meadow designated to be Ms. Teddiursa's house, the weather took an ever so slight turn for the better, with the wind slowly starting to abate, its ravaging gales being a little more spread out between its violent attacks, though far from stopped still. Meadow spoke on about this Teddiursa, a name that Tanis hadn't heard of before, speaking about the Marigold flower. About all he really concluded from her spiel was that the parchment Meadow got to deliver involves Marigold in some way. That and this is where it's being delivered. The flower name itself sounded familiar to Tanis in some way, likely heard it from someone somewhere, he doesn't recall seeing one, though he likely has and just hasn't recognised it.
Meadow taking control of the situation, which once again was fine by Tanis, she took the opportunity to step up to the door. Tanis himself stayed about four steps away from the door, left exactly where they stopped before they both let go of each other's paws, he saw no reason to get himself involved with a matter that wasn't any of his business. Besides, this was Meadow's delivery job, so naturally it only makes sense that she be the one to do it, not him, at least then she can declare to Ivysaur that she did it and be truthful about it. As he watched, and the single second of idleness turned into a few seconds, he glanced in both directions in front of them all before resting his eyes in Meadow and the looming door again. He'd confess that knocking on doors is not an art that he knows too much about, or manners for that matter, but he started to wonder why Meadow was just... Standing there as opposed to actually knocking on the door. Turning around briefly to look at him didn't really change what he was thinking, and the perplexed face he gave back at her only really cemented what she feared he'd be thinking, if that's what she was thinking. Finally however, she drummed at the door a few times to start the delivery. Well, that was certainly odd. Why did she wait so long to knock the door? There could be a few reasons, but Tanis didn't consider any of the viable options before the owner of the home opened up the said door. Maybe another quirk, he didn't know.
The Teddiursa opened the door, unveiling her form to them both. Similar to her namesake, Tanis hasn't seen her before, yet another Pokémon that he has no knowledge of in any way. Her most extinguishing feature is obviously the white crescent moon shape on her forehead otherwise an otherwise bark brown fur coating that actually reminds Tanis of a bear plush that he saw in one of Invictus' stores that seemed to be selling toys of some sort. If anything, Tanis imagined that's exactly where she came from, just brought to life. Did she take all the stuffing out and climb inside it? It's a possibility, but he doubted it. She stood slightly taller than Tanis does, but otherwise maintained no other features that he'd call 'threatening', especially with the smile that she's sporting. Her words reflected the fact that it's not the first time that Meadow has seen her, a sentiment that Tanis didn't think was shared. Meadow didn't respond, it was difficult to tell from where Tanis was standing, but she just seemed to be standing there, in much the same way as before she knocked on the door. Was she okay? Teddiursa, clearly not as phased by this than he was, glanced quickly at him before talking again, she spoke almost as if she was running in automatic pilot until she suddenly realized just what she was about to say and who she was actually saying it to. As if she was dreaming the whole thing, Teddiursa sharply faced Tanis, which in turn started a tame stare-down with Tanis watching her without any sort of expression, and Teddiursa looking at him as if he's from another planet, at least for a split second anyway. Yup, he was definitely standing there and he was most certainly real. That is unless Meadow had somehow been clinging to a figment of her imagination for the past five to ten or so minutes.
This was the moment that Tanis heard and saw a glimpse of the coveted 'real Meadow' that he had so far seen no real indication of. Anxious for reasons Tanis couldn't fathom, Meadow merely stuttered, getting absolutely nowhere in any sort of conversation that she had yet to contribute to. Admittedly, neither did he, but he wasn't in any sort of position to really do so considering she was the focus of it, and not him. But it started to bring him concern over her and this sudden state of.... Not her... That has suddenly washed over her. She literally just described to him just where they were, what she was delivering, and describing Teddiursa's new tastes for Marigold. This was mere moments before she stood at the door like a statue before and after she knocked on the door. She spoke without a pause, no stutter, nothing missed out. Crystal clear and perfectly understandable even to him. Now, Meadow is struggling to make up one clear sentence. Was it something about Teddiursa that makes her like that? Tanis' eyes narrowed as he watched Meadow continue to try, and fail, to coerce herself to say anything tangible. Ultimately it came to naught, as Teddiursa is the one to continue the conversation, complimenting Meadow on making a friend, throwing her arms around her as she did so. Now she was doing almost the exact same thing Meadow did to him earlier. He never sees it happen before, now he sees two Pokémon do it in the span of an hour. Beyond that though, there's something about Teddiursa that felt oddly familiar: Her assertion. She seemed to have no trouble saying what's on her mind, and wasn't ashamed whether it would hurt anyone or not emotionally. It was like watching a combination of Meadow's openness, with his own confidence combined together to make this bear. Her words makes it sound like that Tanis is the first friend that Meadow has made though? It's like everything that he's literally just heard from the both of them completely contradicted everything he knew about Meadow. She did say that she was incredibly shy and had trouble speaking sometimes, but except for the first moment that she approached him, which also contradicted that point, she showed absolutely no sign of any of that at all! Even then, it wasn't to this calibre.
This Teddiursa is not to be trusted.
But, she still continued to push her way, whatever it was, as she whispered something in Meadow's ear. As expected, Tanis couldn't hear what was being said, but the resulting response made him nearly jump out of his skin. Startled, all eyes were on Meadow as she looked like she wanted the ground to swallow her up whole and hide her from the embarrassment from having blurted out so loud like that. That was the loudest Tanis had heard her shout, and he didn't think she could match it, which only made him even more suspicious of this Teddiursa now more than ever. With the shock of the shout dissipating, his eyes glared at the Teddiursa as she listened to Meadow as she finally constructed a sentence that Tanis wasn't listening to. Not only was Meadow struggling to talk to this bear, but she wasn't exactly helping the matter by doing... Whatever it was she was doing. It was a little similar to what Tanis did at first when they first met, but at least he tried to be nicer after trying to instigate a fight. She just seemed to be toying with Meadow without any rhyme or reason than to toy with her. Patron to the flower shop or not, no-one is going to do that if Tanis had anything to say about it. Not that he'd actually say anything about it, he'd much rather do something rather than say it, namely punching them. And that's exactly what he's going to do! Balling his right paw into a fist, he gritted his teeth as his nose twitched slightly in a failed attempt to mitigate a rage that was continuously festering and overflowing beyond his capacity, which isn't much. Not having paid attention to what was going on around him, he was unaware that Meadow had approached him in an attempt to get at her bag, which was still on his back. Tanis took a single step forward with his right foot, before he was actually aware of Meadow being there when she tried to get at the main zipper so she could open it to get the parchment. Rage turned to surprise, Tanis resisted only ever so slightly, enough to notice that it was Meadow who was doing it, and not someone wanting to take his head off his shoulders, and succumbing to her attempts immediately once he realized it. He hunched over, planting his hands onto the ground into a crouch, lowering his overall position so Meadow has easier access to her own bag. Any other resistance is only a direct result of the fact that his arms and shoulders are attached to the rest of himself.
Teddiursa seemed content with the delivery's results, a fine example of Ivysaur's own work no less, and made the offer for the two of them to enter her home. With Meadow having, likely unknowingly, calmed Tanis down to a more knowledged state, he came to realize just how much Ivysaur would've murdered him if he actually attacked right there and then. It certainly wouldn't look good for the shop's image if one of their customers were struck on their doorstep during a delivery by one of the Pokémon doing the actual delivery. Once again, he was about to jump the gun before deciding on whether it would be a good idea or not. He was just so transfixed on the thought that she was messing with them that didn't sit well with him at all. It still doesn't, but Meadow has got the right idea, declining the invitation. Tanis would've said no to it himself, finding the bear untrustworthy, his mind unchanged on that note. But what he wasn't expecting was for Meadow to deflect the declining of the invitation to him. At first, he wasn't sure if he even heard her right, but a look at her was all he needed to see to know that she did say it, and she was serious. Though she didn't look like she was pleading for him to help, it definitely looked like she wanted him to be the scapegoat in her hour of need. She wanted him to elaborate. Perhaps even take over and finish the conversation? That.... Probably isn't such a good idea considering he wanted to hit the Teddiursa just moments beforehand. Yet with the way Meadow had been struggling to talk with her, he maybe had a better chance of formulating something plausible that the Teddiursa would believe? Whatever it was had to be quick, and it had to be something that at least partially resembled truth, considering just how poor a liar he was.
Tanis pulled himself up from his crouch, taking a moment afterwards to brush his knees for any dirt he might have got on them. Finally, he took the few steps that he was away from where Meadow and Teddiursa stood until he was standing beside Meadow once again. He didn't have the stuttering problem she had, but he's hardly anyone with diplomacy skills in any way. Virtually everything he said was some kind of bait to fight him, most of the time anyway. Of course Meadow hasn't done anything of the sort, but that's partially because he doesn't want to fight her, and she's gotten used to his stupid talking quirks. He had to try though. He needed to get himself out of this before he triggered himself again and does something that's going to make Meadow's situation much more worse than it is right now. As is tradition for Tanis, he has a couple of seconds gap from the moment he reached the pair before he says anything. He figured the best way to avoid incurring Teddiursa's pending wrath, or her facing his, is to not actually say anything to her. So his words are actually directed to Meadow instead of her. In that way he can ensure that whatever he says will be nicer than if he directed it to Teddiursa, especially with how he's feeling about her. "Yes. Well..." Tanis spoke, the first time he said anything since they were with Teddiursa. He was facing Meadow, and to emphasize the point further, he placed his paw on Meadow's shoulder, primarily so he has her attention, as she's the one he's talking to. But also as a reassurance sign, he didn't know what was wrong specifically, but somehow she lost all of her confidence from the steps it took her from when they separated, to the door. This was something he was going to probe her about once they're out of here. "... Ivysaur probably has another delivery... Can't keep him waiting." Tanis had a feeling that he didn't, but the beauty of this 'lie', was that it's technically not a lie. He doesn't know if Ivysaur has another delivery or not waiting to go. For all Tanis knew, he does, and hence what he said is actually the truth. It would make the most sense to create this as the reason to leave promptly since that's the reason that Meadow is here with Teddiursa right now. He had considered a buying of supplies or simply saying goodbye with no further conversation, but this seemed the best at the time, and he was somewhat confident. The fact he was looking at Meadow the entire time meant he wasn't lying to an otherwise stranger's face. With that being said however, he wasn't going to tempt fate, he was going to push the leave sooner rather than later. Preferably before Teddiursa says or does something that will tick him off again. Turning to face her, he uttered one thing. "... Teddiursa." In a similar manner to what he did before leaving the shop, Tanis confirms his farewell by saying Teddiursa's name and nodding to her before turning around and making his tracks to leave the premises. Perhaps their second encounter will be less... Disconcerting. Besides, the quicker he can get Meadow away from her, the better, in his opinion. He takes a couple of paces back to where he had come from, stopping only if Meadow doesn't immediately follow beside him. They're leaving the same way they arrived: Side by side, he'll accept no other way.
Tanis is quite set in his ways!
That entire experience has left a rather disturbing imprint on his mind. Where in the name of the legendaries names did Meadow's confidence go all of a sudden? How did she suddenly transform from a confident and outspoken individual, to a meek and cowering creature in a span of ten seconds? That makes no sense whatsoever! What happened to the brave Pichu that took a stand to a complete stranger and offered flowers to him? Was it Teddiursa? She was very pushy and definitely said something to her distaste. Should he have hit the Teddiursa after all?

Neither Meadow, nor Teddiursa, were near the wiser to Tanis’s rising aggression, though Teddiursa couldn’t help but feel confused by the Treecko’s cold stares. The bear simply thought of it as the Grass Type’s personality, so she didn’t voice her concern. There were other Pokemon who were quite serious, even competitive, so she simply assumed that was in his nature. That being said, she was pleased that the sweet, yet impossibly shy, Meadow was finally capable of talking to a Pokemon enough to be their friend.
It made the fact that she still couldn’t do the same for her a little less concerning.
Upon having the Treecko lower himself to allow the Pichu to grab the contents within the bag, Meadow smiled at her friend, clearly much more comfortable with him. Teddiursa was quite confused by this. They certainly didn’t seem at all alike, and their friendship was so very unlikely in every way. Still, she couldn’t help but smile as the Pichu gave a much more confident “Thank you!” to Tanis. There must have been something about Tanis that Teddiursa wasn’t detecting. How could this have been the one Pokemon Meadow could actually talk to? There had to be something she was missing.
Meadow smiled sweetly at her friend as he placed his paw on her shoulder. As long as they had each other’s attention, Meadow was given enough confidence to behave normally, even around strangers.
“I see,” Teddiursa responded with a thoughtful nod at the Treecko’s explanation. She nodded at the Treecko’s response, nodding at him politely. “I understand. Well, it was good to see you anyway, Meadow! You know what I always say: You’re always welcomed here!”
Meadow gave the bear a crooked grin, her shy expression returning as she once again tried to find her words. “Well… I… um… Thank you…” Meadow gulped. “Bye, Teddiursa…” The two females waved at each other before Meadow inevitably caught up with Tanis.
Teddiursa shut the door as the pair left, and the moment they were at a reasonable distance Meadow sighed out as if finally able to breath. “Phew!” Meadow said, pausing to shake her nerves, facing her friend with quite the remorseful expression. “I’m so sorry you had to see that!” Meadow apologized. “I… I’ve never really been good with talking to Pokemon I don’t know very well… I know I haven’t really shown it since we met, but in most cases I’m actually much worse than what you witnessed.”
Meadow let out a sigh, her face completely flushed. The Pichu placed her paws on her cheeks, patting at them before she formed a smile on her face. The little mouse, regardless on what the Treecko would say, was quite pleased with herself that she was able to express herself. “Well then!” The Pichu spoke. “Now that the delivery is done, we can finally take the time to discuss. Or, you know, do what friends do. But, there are a few things that I really want to talk to you about, if you don’t mind?” The Pichu stopped for a moment, realizing that they didn’t really have a destination to hit anymore. “Well,” she continued. “I have a place in mind that we can talk, if you’d like. Of course, if there’s a particular spot that you woul-” Suddenly, Meadow’s thoughts were interrupted by a droplet of water hitting her forehead, causing her ears to lower in annoyance. Great. If the wind wasn’t bad enough, now they had the rain to contend to?
No! There was nothing that was going to stop this chat. She was going to get to the bottom of things, rain or no rain. No Pokemon, and no amount of storms was going to stop her, not now! “Shoot! It’s raining!” Meadow huffed before smiling at her friend. “Oh well,” she tried to brush it off. Tanis being a Grass Type, the mouse simply assumed that the water was making him feel good. “I bet you get a lot of good nutrients from the rain, huh Tanis? Rain is good for plants, and I’d think it would be the same for Grass Types. I bet Ivysaur is standing out in the rain as we speak.”
Meadow was really glad Tanis was her friend...

Although Meadow's own communication problems are more than evident based through past times they've both visited each other alongside what had transpired between them now, Tanis' is perhaps not quite as clear cut as it may seem. That being said, Teddiursa has already worked him out to an absolute science and while not entirely correct in her assumptions, she is not wrong either. The key question on Teddiursa's mine, and rightly so, is how a Pokémon like Meadow has managed to make herself a friend in him, considering how the first impression he gave here wasn't exactly friendly, to put in one way. Given time, Tanis would've wondered if what Teddiursa whispered to Meadow, that was meant with the loudest reaction he'd heard from her, is actually what happened. Maybe Teddiursa thinks it is actually what happened, but the only ones who can really answer that question is the two ladies, Tanis can't answer it. Even so, he is more inclined to believe Meadow's answer over whatever random thoughts anyone else might hold what he lacks anything else to form his own opinion on what was said. Even so he did feel like he wasn't likely going to ever find out unless Meadow comes clean about it, and if that response was anything to go by, he felt like she wouldn't do so, even if he probed her to find out. So, he reached the same conclusion on the entire situation as he would most others: He doesn't know, so he's not going to concern himself over it any more than he needs to. Maybe in the future he'll know more, but if he doesn't, he won't lose any sleep over it.
The more pressing matter in his mind is Meadow's demeanour throughout the past couple of minutes in comparison to, any other time for that matter. It was as clear as day as he crouched down so she could get to her bag. A simple two words. But those two words finalized the idea that there was more going on here than he knew about, and it may or may not have some relation to Teddiursa herself. The two words themselves were fine, a kind gesture in reaction to something that he did which resulted in her benefit, simple and to the point, most Pokémon would do that. But it was the way she spoke that made so much more of an impact than anything else she said for the past minute. For the Pokémon that had struggled to form a sentence without adding an 'Um' or more syllables than is required just moments earlier, formed a serviceable, complete and such an easy to follow remark, that even Teddiursa herself heard it clear as day. It was crisp and straight to the point, and while Tanis didn't know this himself, if stuttering is what Meadow normally did in front of her, then was this the first time she heard Meadow talk like that? Regardless, it really did make Tanis consider think that Teddiursa is someone who heckles Meadow or otherwise is a Pokémon that she doesn't really want to be around if she can help it, but does so because of her job. It makes sense, it did at least solidify the idea that her confidence hadn't completely disappeared into the ether, it was simply overtaken by something else, something that he didn't know what it was exactly. Anxiety perhaps? Well, he's not exactly a good judge of character, which is pretty obvious considering how he acts and reacts to situations most of the time.
This has been the first time that he has seen Meadow effectively bring herself down to a bumbling mess barely capable of speech half the time, which on its own is somewhat terrifying. But it isn't the first time that he's seen her look like she is being coerced into saying or doing something out of her own interests. Teddiursa looked like she tried to convince her into admitting something she doesn't want to, or was a flat out lie in the first place. From the tail-end of the conversation Tanis heard at the shop, Ivysaur seemed to be trying to convince Meadow not to work while injured, which is less about taking the opposite side of her opinion, and more about her own health, which probably doesn't count in this instance. The most obvious case, however, was of course Lucifer. He may have done more of it, if his personality and his tongue is anything to go by, but he heavily coerced Meadow into believing her death was imminent, and almost convinced her that it was a firm conclusion. Perhaps she may very well have believed that. However much Tanis himself hated to admit his own part in what he bore witness to, he's also realized that he has done something along those lines himself. He did coerce Meadow immediately after that point to pick herself up and fight back against Lucifer, which whether she wanted to or not, she did. Like with the Ivysaur case however, Tanis did feel as though he did it as the better option of what she was considering, which at the time was death, and with that as the alternative option, any other options seems more appealing! If he wanted to be technical about it, the fact that Meadow spoke and acted much more confidently to him, despite Teddiursa being there, is really an act of coercion, even in spite that he wasn't actively doing or saying anything. That may be a bit of a stretch. The facts are, Meadow can speak to Tanis in what he would consider normal, but less so with Teddiursa, a problem she doesn't share with Ivysaur, whom she can also speak to as 'normal'. So, what does Tanis and Ivysaur have in common that Teddiursa is not?
… Well, they're both Grass types, that's the most obvious one...
The situation only cemented itself further when she addressed Teddiursa one final time before leaving. Quick on the uptake in wanting to get away from this place, Meadow spoke, once again stuttering and adding segments that wasn't particularly needed to make the otherwise departure of the pair slightly more awkward than it maybe could've been. True to form, Tanis waited with his back turned to the two as they said their farewells until Meadow started walking in the same direction he was headed: Back into the street. He followed, trying to keep an otherwise neutral stance about it all. His mind was saying a lot more, and his body was saying something else, but a calmer mind alongside Meadow's desire to leave quickly won the battle against Teddiursa today, and the situation dissolved with not too much more causing an otherwise normal situation to go worse. At worst, it would make some interesting conversation lines for Teddiursa to spread about Meadow, and probably some words to be had with Ivysaur that he had little doubt he'd get bombarded with later down the line. How this would play out in the future, he honestly wasn't sure, and hadn't put any thought into it, nor was he planning on starting now. Whatever happens, happens, and he'll just have to accommodate as for when the need arises. The goodbyes made and Teddiursa retiring to her home once more, Meadow and Tanis begun heading back the way they had come from, primarily because that's the direction Meadow led Tanis to get there. Makes the most sense that it would be the way back to the flower shop, albeit perhaps with a couple of planned diversions if what Meadow had planned comes to fruition. Being out in the open again bought with it the galing winds again that hadn't really let up all that much since Tanis arrived at the shop, in the fact that it's still going strong. His scarf blew into his face, forcing him to throw the loose strands over his shoulder again, which immediately took to the wind and started blowing in the direction of the gale itself. An inconvenience at most.
No sooner had they begun to follow their tracks back, than Meadow stopped barely a couple of minutes into their walk. A highly audible sigh was first. It was more than enough to get Tanis to turn to his side, the side that Meadow was walking on, having noticed only afterwards that she had stopped and he hadn't noticed. He was a pace and a half away from her at that moment. He didn't quite understand the logic behind either the sigh or the reason she stopped and looking like she was trying to compose herself, but nonetheless he also stopped and turns to face Meadow again, which resulted in him getting another face full of his scarf. Angrily tossing the loose over his shoulder, and the scarf doing exactly the same thing it had the first time around, he kept an otherwise emotionless outlook and glance at Meadow as she righted herself for what was to follow. What did follow was her admittance to the issue that Tanis had confirmed to himself was an issue. Everything she said made a lick of sense... In that none of it really made much sense to Tanis whatsoever. He couldn't deny that there was something going on, and what he witnessed was it, she said that it happens when talking to Pokémon, which makes sense since that's exactly what happened. As for the rest of her confession... Tanis had a hard time thinking it was the case. If he took everything she just said literally and by its face value, then there was one major things that he knows of that firmly contradicts all of that. He doesn't count Lucifer, as that was more emotion based and more of a life-or-death scenario over a regular conversation. Ivysaur also doesn't count since she obviously knows him, so of course he doesn't apply. The one Pokémon that he does know that she'd met, and that she is contradicting herself with, is himself. He'd already figured that part out already, but besides some early jitters, she seemed pretty confident and comfortable enough and didn't have too much troubles constructing an understandable array of sentences. Perhaps too many sentences, but then that's a quirk of hers she still does now, so that doesn't apply, to him at least. There was even a moment where, after showing an aggressive act that could be construed as negative, he gave her a small offer to sit near him, which she took almost as soon as he retracted his paw. And yet that was still the very first time the two had met. It sounded like Teddiursa has done business with the shop before, as Meadow did claim that she held a new taste in Marigolds for some reason. So this isn't the first time she's seen Teddiursa either. In the end, it all boiled down to what he witnessed after Teddiursa opened the door, and that's what he preyed on, he didn't consider the reason being them not knowing each other very well... As he didn't truly believe that.
He didn't even wait for Meadow to recompose herself again. He's technically supposed to be with her right now, and he's simply allowing some Pokémon to go around whispering stuff that caused discomfort to Meadow? He initially let it go, but now Tanis had a feeling that there was a more underlying issue than just stuttering because Meadow struggles to talk with those she doesn't know very well. A follow-up to his initial stare-down he gave Teddiursa, he responded back to the comment, not exactly with a threat specifically, but enough that at least declared his intentions should Teddiursa do it again. "Seemed like she was heckling to me... I should've done something about that..." He didn't, in the end, for three reasons: Meadow was in charge, Meadow did actually stop Tanis before he could do so, and the conversation went by too quickly for him to interject. Which in hindsight was a very good thing as who knows what would happen if both him and Teddiursa begun fighting directly in front of her own house. Meadow's remorseful look was met with a stern and a little agitated glance back at her. Obviously not to herself, but more towards Teddiursa. It was all over his face that he didn't like how she acted towards Meadow, at least now, even if Meadow wasn't sure of herself over him slowly turning towards aggression as the pair spoke initially. To prove it was not towards Meadow herself however, the reactive anger that may have come from what he should've done as opposed to what he actually did lasted only a couple of seconds more, returning him back to an otherwise calmer state, but his gaze continued to remain on Meadow herself as she proceeded to bring herself back to the fruits of today's labors, or, well, Tanis' labors at the very least. With delivery done, it was now free time for her, and her declaration was for discussion, which was precisely what she wanted when she made the Favor request to him. Although not exactly high on his own idea of things Pokémon would use his Favors for, it was what she wanted, and thus that's what she would get. Even though the idea that he would adhere the Favor this time, and not do so again in the future would not be the case for her, he humoured the notion more anyway simply since that's what she wanted. Thus, that's what she would get. As it just so happened, there were a couple of little tidbits that had just so happened to fall into Tanis' lap that he also wouldn't mind too much if Meadow would similarly humour him with a discussion. That, and he didn't really know what exactly friends do... Having never really been in the spot to 'do what friends do'. It wasn't a concern though. Meadow wanted to talk, so did he, so there was no problems. Tanis cracked a small smile and nodded at her inquiry. If he had minded, he would've dismissed the Favor back then.
Meadow has a curious and inquisitive mind anyway, even if more to his species rather than him. Why not add to her knowledge?
The interruption, on the other paw, was the turning point in the entire premise that the whole scenario up to that point reared its ugly head. In fact, it was just three single words that changed everything, including where Tanis' focus was at that moment. He hadn't particularly noticed it, not even when the raindrop hit Meadow's forehead and she flinched and reacted accordingly as she almost hissed out her displeasure and declaring the fact it's raining to the world, but most importantly to him. Whatever emotion he had been feeling or showing up to that moment was immediately replaced as his gaze, head, and body tensed up to a high level and shot up to look at the pending doom that was the sky above. What little there was, was easily masked by the resulting darkness of the grey clouds that danced their own tune that was amended only by the winds that plagued the lands. Though the rain was only ever so slight, and none had luckily fallen on Tanis himself as of yet, one usually resulted in a thousand more in a manner of no longer than a few seconds. Immediately, he could feel his body reacting to the potential prospect of being drenched in water, dripping on every facing of himself as they formed drips and coated his body in a life draining substance that, in his opinion, have no place anywhere near him or in a mile-long radius around him for that matter. Yet, as Meadow continued, she continued to prove her background, and assumptions for how much Grass types like rain. Not to mention bringing up Ivysaur again, which would make an awful lot of sense considering that he does have that flower on his back that more than likely requires just as much care on its own than his own welfare. Of course that's just a speculation, deep down Tanis had a feeling that Ivysaur is made of much more tougher stuff than a simple flower. It would take a bit more than a lack of rain and other crucial nutrients, so to speak, to wilt that flower!
On this particular occasion however, Tanis was not up for it. Looking back to Meadow from looking at the sky throughout the whole thing, his once confident and authoritive demeanour he exhibited had diminished, if just slightly, and has been replaced by a feeling of sheer dread and fear that Meadow may be familiar with. His eyes told the story, there was some discomfort and a severe sense of urgency in them, and his gritted teeth and his general unhappy features told of one clear thing: He wasn't happy. But this time around, instead of getting angry or closed off, he instead appears to be panicked, facing a problem that a solution may not perhaps be as clear as it first seems. Like the previous time, Tanis spoke right away. Yet while he had kept his direct speech and not missing a beat as such, as his looks showed, the confidence has diminished and has been replaced with a direct sense of wanting to be somewhere else that isn't where they are right now. "Yeah, well, he's welcome to it!" Which was a direct stab at Meadow's comment to Ivysaur standing outside at this moment to drench himself in water. If that's what he wanted to do, than more power to him. As for himself, he'd much rather be underneath some cover away from where the rain could reach him, ideally in another continent altogether, but anything would be better than being outside directly in the stuff. If he wanted to get wet, he could roll himself in a pond or lake later, though good luck getting him anywhere near either! Either way, Tanis spoke to Meadow again, displaying his urgency in words that made his intentions perfectly clear, and without room for doubt. "I'm not staying out here... Come on. We're going!" Tanis turned to face the direction that they had initially been going, waving Meadow towards him with his paw in the meantime before he began booking it in a run in that said direction, aiming for the first form of shelter that he could find. He wasn't too fussy when it came to finding shelter from the rain, but the more solid it was, the better it is. Either way, anything would work: A tree, a tunnel. Heck, a massive overhang of a ceiling would do for him, all he'd have to do is clamber up the wall and stick himself to the edge where the rain can't get to him. Ideally he'd avoid anything like that on this occasion considering he has some company, and someone not fit to climb anything taller than herself he suspects. Wouldn't do much good her getting too wet herself either, even by her own admittance of her own minor dislike for rain, though his own is clearer superior in that regard. Whether Meadow followed him initially or not, he bolted. He gave her the warning he was going, and thus he did, he wasn't going to wait to see if she followed him. It sounded like she had a location in mind, whether that's still serviceable now with the rain upon them, he didn't know. But if they're going there, it was up to her to speak up before they run by it, take a different direction, or just go somewhere else.
As of yet, Tanis had effectively allowed Meadow to direct the course of their meeting so far today. Sure he did a couple of bits and pieces that changed the direction's course somewhat, such as inquiring about a Citrus-scented flower, but nothing that directly counteracted anything that Meadow had done so far. That was until now. But to Tanis, this was a little more than just a simple change in situations, this was a drastic one to him, and not one he was going to stand around waiting for. So for the first time, he's taking command, and he's asserted his pressure (Because he's clearly an Absol in disguise!) in having Meadow take his way, not because she's said or decided on something he's disagreed with, but because he'd much rather have a solution now, and then consider options afterwards. Act first, talk later... Never more truer than now. To further exemplify his point, he acted! He pushed the initiative by acting, and otherwise making Meadow take his plan, lest she go her own way of course, which is perfectly acceptable. Despite all of what he said and does, he doesn't take her paw and drag her with him, the choice is still very much hers as to whether she goes with him or not, and up to her whether she stands in the rain or not. Regardless of her decision, one matter was clear to Tanis: He wasn't waiting and he certainly wasn't going to be standing out in this incoming rain. Thus, he dashed off to find his place.
As luck would just so happen to follow him today, he didn't have far to go before he found somewhere that was serviceable to his needs. A row of about five shops in total lay about half a block away and around a corner from where Meadow and Tanis were originally. He didn't know what the shops held within their doors, nor did he care. What he did care about however, was that all five shops were sharing multiple tarps that draped above the front of all five of those shops. They were clung to the shop's walls by bars that, in all honesty, looked like they'd buckle if they weren't screwed onto the walls. That said, they'd been suffering through the worst of all the wind throughout the day, so Tanis was content that they would be able to sustain whatever the rain would follow. Though, being fair, Tanis was just happy enough they were there rather than not, as he would've taken anything at that point. The rain had just started to come down a lot more prominently, with Tanis stuck right in the middle of it all. The drips were coming harder and faster as each second passed, yet at the point Tanis got underneath the tarps, the rain was not flowing at what would be its full capacity, so he had fortunately spared himself from being at the full brunt of it. Needless to say though, he had still been running within its influence until that point, and he had been caught in the rain as much as Meadow had been. Tanis could feel his body weakening immensely as his mind confused himself with thoughts of each raindrop that hit his head and body. Both his and Meadow's bag did good work of alleviating some that would drop onto his body, but not all of it, and certainly not on his head. By the time he reached those tarps, he wasn't completely soaked through, but enough rain had reached him that it was affecting him. He could no longer keep any other train of thought except for getting underneath those tarps, thoughts of a discussion, the Teddiursa and even Meadow herself had completely escaped him. Running was all his body was allowing him to do physically. He may have seemed fine outwardly, but inside him, his vision was blurring and his stomach was churning.
His lifeline was reaching his target. No longer feeling the rain atop his head is an unimaginable sense of relief, but brings with it a whole new sensation. Stumbling, Tanis makes it as far as the nearest shop's wall before he winds up collapsing under the weight of himself. Dropping to his knees, his body lurched forwards, only stopping himself from hitting the floor entirely by throwing his paws to the ground, leaving him on his paws and knees. Heavy breathing, eyes closed and pale, it was Tanis' turn to be left as a complete mess no longer than a minute or two after he reached that conclusion with Meadow. It's karmic irony really. Like he had been running a marathon, Tanis' breathing is labored, frequent and barely functioning at half of their normal capacity. His entire body is shaking like an uncontrollable cold spell had suddenly hit him, and zero capacity to seeing straight at all. Any and all attempts he had in seeing what was going on around him resulted in nothing more than a blurry image and a whole mixture of colours, as well as everything looking like it was spinning around in a continuous circle. Everything about him was impaired, from his hearing to his feeling. It's his weakest state, and so painfully clear that he couldn't handle what was afflicting him to the point of debilitating. Almost an entire shutdown. Arguably among one of his only fears: Water. Though his symptoms may appear erratic and abnormal, it's a fear that is very much real. To the point that the thought of Grass type acquiring nourishment and otherwise loving rain is the direct polar opposite of what Tanis is feeling this very second. As for the rain that did hit him, it does what normal water does on a Pokémon: It flows down into drips, which either hits one of the two bags, or drips onto the ground. For everything that Tanis was, he felt so weak and so pathetic, not emotionally, but physically. His mind was already relishing in the thought that his immediate torment of rain being over, and had begun the process of recovery to getting Tanis back to some relative sort of normalcy. But, for this particular moment, he was a quivering pile of bags and bones with virtually no perception of any sort whatsoever!

As the Pichu reflected on how Tanis was such a good friend, although slightly violent, the Pichu caught a glimpse of another example of his amazing personality… albeit, again, violent. The Pichu knew it was misguided. Knew that the Treecko was essentially insinuating that Teddiursa would do well not to do that again, but because she knew what that gesture meant in Tanis terms, Meadow couldn’t help but smile at him. They may not have been friends for very long, but she already knew she was in good paws and that the Treecko wouldn’t let anything bad happen to her…
...But then there was a change. The moment Tanis responded to Meadow’s remark, another side appeared. One she wouldn’t have ever expected from the Treecko. Just a moment earlier, he carried himself with confidence, staring at her with the intent to protect her from whatever frightened her, but in an instant that all changed. His confidence was replaced by a something she knew far too well: terror. She knew this because she experienced it recently against the Absol Lucifer.
The Treecko told her they were leaving so decisively, Meadow honestly should have seen his sudden retreat coming. Unfortunately, she wasn’t quite fast enough to react as he ran off, leaving Meadow in the dust as she tried to get up on her three working paws. “Wait!” Meadow tried to call out, moving as fast as she could with the injury that she had. What was happening? Why was Tanis running away all of a sudden? Did someone… hurt him?
Whatever the case, Tanis’s pace was far too much for the Pichu to keep up with and as the rain continued its downpour, the Pichu’s vision of Tanis began to blur. “Tanis!” Meadow called out as she tried to move herself even faster. It was rather unwise of her to do, but the Pichu was determined to get to Tanis. “Wait! Tanis! I’m coming!” For a moment, Tanis was out of sight, and the Pichu started to fear what might’ve been happening to him. “Tani-!” The Pichu ended up slipping on the wet ground, landing face first and hard. The poor little mouse let out a pained whine before pushing herself back onto her three feet, and she continued to try and find Tanis.
Thankfully, she didn’t have to look very far.
Though the panic made both Pokemon feel as if they were running forever, Meadow managed to find the curled up form of the once so confident Tanis under the hood of the porch of a shop. Her triangular ears lowered at the poor sight she was seeing her dear new friend in. Someone with so much confidence, so much of everything Meadow wished to have, was huddled on the ground, scared of the very thing that allowed him to live. The very thing that all living things needed to survive: water. Hydrophobia. It was a term she had learned in her Psychology class.
Hydrophobia: An extreme or irrational fear of water. A common symptom in Pokemon who have rabies.
Now, Meadow was pretty sure that Tanis didn’t have rabies, but there was no denying his hydrophobia. It was a good thing that he was holding the bags because they did protect him a great deal from the water, but that wasn’t enough. His head was soaked. Any bit of him that was covered in water would send someone with hydrophobia in a frenzy of fear.
Being a paranoid, timid creature herself, Meadow knew far too well how he felt. Meadow glanced up at the shops, already trying to figure out a way to help her friend, and there it was. The shop they just so happened to be taking shelter under was a home decor and clothing store. The Pichu made no hesitation to dash into the store. Inside was a whole assortment of items, but her small brown eyes scanned her surroundings. She was looking for something rather specific. Her soaking wet fur was rather heavy, especially after having tripped from earlier, but her determination didn’t falter.
The desperation was immense. The Pichu struggled to find them anywhere. But how could a store like this not have- “Excuse me, miss,” Meadow instantly turned around to see an orange Pokemon, one of just as much confidence as Tanis had portrayed before all this. A Buizel. “I’m sorry to bother you, but I couldn’t help but notice that you were soaking wet. Is something wrong?”
Meadow’s ears lowered. She’d never seen this Pokemon before, and even at a dire situation like this, her antisocial behavior got the better of her as she stuttered to get her words out. “U-u-um…” The Pichu managed to speak out. “I-i’m so sorry t-to bother you s-s-sir, but my friend out there i-i-is wet and… and…”
“Say no more!” the Buizel smirked, tapping his paw against his chest. “You’re looking for towels aren’tcha? Well, I don’t work here, or anything, but I did come across some towels. Here! I’ll show you where they are.” The Pichu formed a smile that wasn’t as genuine as it should have been, but her soaked features seemed to give the impression that she was just sick, and maybe she was, because the Buizel didn’t seem to pay her odd behavior any mind.
The two dashed right for the towels, and the Buizel grabbed four of them just to be on the safe side. “Th-thank-”
“No need for that, ma’am,” the Buizel stated with a smile. “More than happy to help.” The two of them walked over to the counter, where a Buneary was waiting to help them. Meadow reached to get her money when she realized she left her back with Tanis. “Don’t worry, little Miss,” the Buizel said, bringing his own money out. “I’ll take care of-”
“O-oh no, Mr. Buizel!” the Pichu insisted. “I-i can’t l-let you-”
“Oh, but I insist,” he interrupted again. “Go help your friend. I’ll take care of the tab. Just make sure the two of you stay safe and dry, okay?” Meadow let out a sneeze, covering her face as she did so. “And try not to catch a cold.” The little Pichu slowly formed a genuine smile and nodded as she took the towels and made her way to the door as best as her three legs would allow.
“Thank you, M-mr. Buizel, s-sir!” Meadow shouted, with ever slightly more confidence, but still not much.
“Any time Ms..?” he spoke, as if requiring her name.
“Meadow,” she said with a nod. “C-call me… Meadow.” And with that, the Pichu walked out of the store and brought her attention to the Treecko. “Tanis!” The Pichu knelt down by the panicked Treecko’s side as best she could before grabbing one of the towels and placing it over Tanis’s head. She then proceeded to cover herself with a towel, drying off her arms as she did so. No sense in drying off his head with soaked arms after all. The little Pichu then rubbed the Treecko’s head with the towel as best as she could, gently rubbing every feature of it until he was completely dry.
The Pichu let out another sneeze as she finally came around to drying herself off completely, which took quite a bit longer to do thanks to her fur. She really should have shaken it off, but there was nowhere outside the shop she could have done it without getting Tanis more wet and possibly spook him. Upon the both of them being dry, the Pichu let out a sigh, shivering as she realized just how cold she was.
The Pichu brought her attention back to her shaking friend as she wrapped her short arms around his head, and rested her chin on his forehead. The Buizel walked out of the shop, glancing at the two of them with a sort of… glint in his eye. Nonetheless, when Meadow smiled shyly at him, Buizel smiled and nodded back, nodding at her. It seemed as though he’d tip his hat if he had one, but since he didn’t he made his way to go elsewhere. What a nice guy.
“Tanis,” Meadow whispered sweetly to her friend. “Please don’t be scared, Tanis. You’re all nice and dry now, so you don’t have to be afraid anymore…” The Pichu turned away and let out another sneeze again before resting her little chin on his head, trying to gently stroke his head comfortingly as she did so.

Tanis is very much the type of Pokémon that looks like nothing rattles him, a pillar of strength that only the mightiest of Pokémon could have any hope of dislodging. He stood his ground when Meadow approached him after she startled him, albeit less likely he would not do anything instead of lashing out at the first opportunity. Similarly, he stood toe-to-toe against Lucifer, a Pokémon far more superior to him if you probed him enough to admit that. Equally similar, he didn't falter against Ivysaur's continuously distrustful nature towards him, meeting his dark gaze with one that did not falter. It may be a common trait among Treecko, but Tanis really did make it look like second nature to him. So a lot of surprise is to be had when that same undeterred and strong Pokémon folds immediately like a deck of cards at the mere concept of water. But this boils down very well when Tanis is considered due to how his moves are used and what he does. As a Pokémon who can draw in sunlight to use attacks, his preferred weather is obviously sunlight, a drastic separation from rain, even a polar opposite. Not only does Tanis have a fear of water overall, which doesn't make things any better for him most of the time anyway, but his own body doesn't function as well during rain either. He becomes overall weaker as he cannot draw power from the sun, because it's not there. Tanis may seem like a very strong Pokémon in the right circumstances, but Meadow has bore witness to a fatal flaw of his: Rain weakens him tremendously. It's not through lack of trying that he's attempted to curve this problem of his, at least make it viable if begrudgingly. But success has so far eluded him.
As made clear but his overall state prior to Meadow catching up with him. In admittance, he had made-off with Meadow's bag in much the same way that Lucifer had done the same thing with her. That wasn't intentional as Tanis literally booked it the moment he saw the rain starting, he had neglected the fact that he was still wearing Meadow's bag, and ran off with it. Of course the difference this time is that Meadow found Tanis almost immediately, finding her bag still intact and virtually unchanged in its stance, including its location: Still on his back, shifted forward closer to the back of his neck after he dropped to the ground. Tanis had not even considered the fact that him booking it away from Meadow was him effectively stealing from her. But whether he'd be charged for it or not would need to be left up to Meadow at a time when she's not concerning herself over Tanis' own well-being. For Tanis though, he had no idea that Meadow had found him, or that she had dived into the nearby shop he was pressing up against with his right side as she did so. Ignoring the fact that his back was to her the whole time, his vision was nothing but blotches of 'things' with a variety of colors that easily bled into other items like a young child trying to color in a picture for the first time. His hearing had downgraded to a loud whistling noise that masked every little sound that was going on around him, which was mostly the rain as it hit the various surfaces around him, and a couple of disgruntled cries from Pokémon who were just as slow on the uptake and trying to get out of the rain themselves. Both of these matters means that he cannot see nor hear the rain coming down, so recovery should be swift.... If not for the fact that his body was dripping from the rain that hit him.
Thanks to his skin and lack of fur, it doesn't take much water to see him start dripping from effectively everywhere on him. Ironically the two bags he was wearing did a much superior job of absorbing water than he was, which is made ironic considering he knows the move Absorb. Nonetheless, it was this dripping, mostly occurring on his head and face, that was giving him the most trouble. Each formation amplified in his mind tenfold, and gave him an overwhelming sense of dread, almost like he was drowning! The numbness he felt only strengthened the sharp and piercing sensation he felt as each drip ran down his features, to eventually drip harmlessly on the ground, on occasion splashing onto his arms and paws, making it much worse! They were like knives, slicing him open effortlessly and forever scarring him with no relenting. Each sensation repeated and each time his brain gave him a painful reminder of just what he's afraid of. His breathing and his shivering compounded the idea that he was definitely afraid of what was plaguing him, to a degree of debilitating. Anyone could very easily strike at him, point and laugh at him, or do whatever, and Tanis has no insight or any sort of comprehension to do anything about it. His brain was far too occupied concerning itself with his dilemma, and his other sense were too distorted and unfocused to be of any use to him.
But this was not through lack of trying. Between Meadow entering the shop, and her coming back out with the towels in paw, a couple of minutes had passed, time that Tanis had been left to his own devices and attempt to recover on his own. The ordeal does sadly take some time from him to snap out of, in that he was still completely out of sorts by the time she came back outside. But he had at least made an attempt of righting himself. The most obvious solution would be to shake himself off, remove all the excess water, in similar aspect to what Meadow didn't do herself. Unfortunately, each and every time that he's been subjected to facing his body coated in water, he never remotely considered shaking himself off, as he's much too shaken to formulate such a plan of action. About all he can really get himself to do is random small movements until he gets leave of his sense back again. During his time alone, he coaxed himself into shifting his position to a seated one, which took four separate tries for him to roll onto his back and sit upright. His saving grace was the wall that he managed to run himself to before dropping to his knees. Now on his left side, Tanis was propping himself against it, using it to steady his otherwise shaky balance. After that, he tried to remove both of the bags from himself, both Meadow's and his own. Meadow's was easiest to do, a shift in his arm's positions saw him plop the bag down behind himself. His own bag was a little more awkward, and saw him fiddling with it as he couldn't get his paws to properly function to pinch something precisely, reacting to feeling as opposed to what he still couldn't see. Meadow's return saw him on the tail-end of finally getting his bag off of his stomach, the very familiar Treecko look finally on proper display once more.
With those couple of minutes also seeing him slowly starting to recover on his own, he was looking a little more stable, but not by very much. He still couldn't distinguish much of anything through hearing or seeing anything. He could see a yellow-colored thing move next to him, alongside something that was another color that he also couldn't recognized. He also heard.... Something... But his hearing was still overshadowed by the whistling that drowned out whatever it was he'd heard. It was definitely something, but he had no idea what it was. As such, he didn't specifically respond to Meadow moving next to him or calling out his name, though he was looking at her. Tanis' eyes were shaking almost as violently as his body was, and he definitely looked both unfocused and completely clueless, as he watched Meadow in just as much abject fear as he had when he started. Who knew that Meadow exhibited enough fear to shake an Outlaw into submission? Regardless, it hadn't stopped her from blanketing the majority of his senses with a towel, draping it over his head like a large turban. The response was perhaps not what she expected to get from him. As if he had jumped out of his skin, Tanis physically flinched as his entire vision became one with a variation of color, to just one single and consistent one, and his face suddenly felt like he'd been hit with something. He dropped his head that made it seemed like he'd been hit by something, and he begun sliding backwards on the wall, about to topple over backwards. His saving grace was that, despite his encumbered problems, there was one feature of his that still seemed to function to expectations. As if instincts took control, which is exactly what happened, Tanis slammed his left paw against the shop's wall as he toppled backwards. His paw's remarkable makeup did the rest of the work. At a dime, Tanis stopped moving and was tethered to a half-fallen position with his paw preventing him from going any further. His arm was visibly shaking, a combination of failing under his own weight, and the result of his fear, yet despite this, his paw was firm and steadfast, it wasn't going anywhere!
Tanis had concluded, correctly, that someone had just placed something on him, which explained the sudden weight on his head and his vision change. But he still had no idea what it was, who did it, or why. He still wasn't in an appropriate enough mindset to comprehend or make sense of it all, only that it was happening. At which point, Meadow had finished drying her arms, and was prepared to dry off Tanis with the towel around his head. That entire act was nothing short of startling, as his heart literally skipped a couple of beats as he felt someone vigorously rubbing at his head with the item that they'd placed over him. As if trying to deter it, his breathing became a lot more audible, still continuing the short gasps that he'd been making the entire time, and occasionally letting out a short and pained moan of some description. An indication that he wasn't particularly enjoying this, and perhaps hoping in vain that him making that noise would stop whoever it was from continuing... It didn't, but he couldn't exactly do anything else, he wasn't even sure where he would be swinging at if he had. In spite of this, his senses continued to slowly improve over the course of time, and although he was still far from perfect, one thought finally crossed his mind as he realized that, while annoying and somewhat painful from his numbed body, it was perhaps possible that Meadow had caught up with him, and this was her doing... He didn't have any way to actually confirm it at that present time, but it made enough sense that made it plausible.
… Either that or it's someone else entirely...
With his head now dry, which Tanis didn't recognise right away, Meadow proceeded to dry herself off. This meant the towel was off his head now, and he could see the variety of colours once again. Things definitely seemed a little clearer as he looked where he was facing, which wasn't where Meadow was standing. His vision was still blurry and it was still largely garbled colours, but items were slowly beginning to become into focus. In particular, the closer the thing was, the clearer he could see it. Unfortunately everything he was seeing was too far for him to recite just who or what each thing was. But as time progressed, the realization of what had just transpired caught up with him, and with it, his mind was in a more appropriate place to return him back to what could be considered normal. But there was one more surprise waiting for him just around the corner before that could happen. Startled once again, Tanis' head becomes the subject of a Meadow attack as she wraps her arms around it and plops her chin on it. That got his attention. His eyes darted towards the perpetrator of the untold assault on his head, to be greeted by a lot of yellow! More precisely, his vision had recovered enough for him to recognise who it was straight away. Although being close and unable to see her head, as it was above his own, he could see her black tail, her favouring one leg over the other, and a portion of one of her arms to recognise just exactly who it was. He knew of only one Pokémon who has those features and would do what she's... … Well, no, Tanis didn't have any idea why she was clinging onto his head like that besides the fact she could reach it, but the rest of her he could only conclude was Meadow, 100%.
Things improved at a startlingly rapid pace at that point, Tanis figured it was because he couldn't feel any more dripping coming from his body, but it was enough that he was able to see the Buizel leave the shop premises and walk down the road, not phased at all by the rain that was bombarding the outside world beyond the tarp that Meadow and himself were under. Unlike Meadow, Tanis didn't see anything too particular about the Buizel that may suggest anything untoward, in large part because it was only a fleeting look. He didn't seem to want to bother them, so Tanis ultimately didn't give him a second glance, what was more interesting in his mind was the rain that was going on. Not to mention the dripping that was being caused by the tarp above them. For a slight time, Tanis' fears returned, but not the senses side-effects that had been plaguing him and that he's still slowly recovering from. Locked into watching the relentless spectacle that haunted his nightmares, each drip of rain threatened to home in and consume Tanis whole, as if time had slowed to a stand-still and he was left to wallow in his nightmare in abstract terror as he became powerless to just watch and wait for the inevitable. He didn't know what the ending to the story would be, but he had plenty of guesses, and all of them weren't pretty. If there was ever any doubt that it was water, or rain in this case, that was causing Tanis all of his current problems, then that was another firm cemented point towards figuring it out.
Meadow was a Pokémon that would not be denied her attention however, and she made it quite clear that she was being listened to. The calling of his name returned Tanis' attention back to her. That single solitary word, his own name, not only confirmed what he already knew: That who he was with, was Meadow, but sent what little focus he had in him to something that didn't involve rain. Tanis turned to face Meadow again as she spoke. It was quite weird to listen to her words while looking at her stomach as opposed to her face, but if there was anything that he was going to place his attention, it was going to be on something that he wasn't afraid of. Meadow's words flowed like a chocolate fountain: Smooth and attention-grabbing. They're simple words, something that anyone who even had any remote of care to another would say to them should they be in a similar situation than Tanis was in right now. Almost like she had read it directly from a textbook. But that's not what got Tanis uplifted from them, it was the gentle tone, the whispering and the aftermath that changed it from a generic statement from somewhere or someone else, to words that came from the heart. It declared to Tanis that Meadow didn't want him to be subjected to his fear, and wanted him to feel better. Further implied that her actions of whispering and stroking his head, with her uncharacteristic sneeze after her whispering, with her comforting him. The words were sweet, and he latched onto every word, absorbing them and taking them into literal context as he processed it through his recovering mind. The stroking of his head was... Interesting, that Tanis had mixed feelings about. On the one paw, it was strange, and he didn't really understand what Meadow was doing it for. But on the other paw, it didn't feel wrong or off-putting, he had no idea how to really describe it exactly. It took him a little time for him to figure it out, until he reached a separate conclusion which made him chuckle. He reached that she did it to make him think about something else entirely, something besides the fact that it's raining right now. He would admit that it did feel strangely comforting regardless. In a proper response, Tanis looked up at Meadow, whom towered him in his seated position, smiling from the result of his chuckle. "... You..." He spoke, still a little shaken from his ordeal, but also amused. It was the only word he said to Meadow before he broke out into another chuckle.
She's a pistol! She's good at what she does!
Tanis' body functionality had returned itself into a state that he could call it functional, though there were still portions of his sight and his shaking that was still prominent, but they were matters that he could deal with in the passage of time. Perhaps most importantly however, his mind has been detracted away from the rain, and water in general, which in turn has restored at least some resemblance of his own self back into him. Though that's not a resolution he could've reached without Meadow's helping paw in the whole thing. He still didn't comprehend what exactly happened, or what she did, though he could hazard a guess that she was the one that was involved, and what she did only benefitted his recovery instead of hindered it. By the end, he will be fine so long as they remained here, he could handle wallowing in torment looking at rain much better than being coated in water, as demonstrated just now. But that doesn't mean he's about to ignore everything that Meadow had performed, especially with her words to him. Looking back up at her, he spoke again. He wasn't sure if she was looking at him, or something else that was behind him considering her chin was on the top of his head, but he'd at least try to signify that he was looking as he responded back. "... You're right Meadow..." Tanis spoke, attempting to mimick Meadow's gentleness, which had the same effect of a brick not breaking a window after throwing it as opposed to a feather, but maybe some marks for trying. His breathing had calmed to a more manageable level, though he was still taking deeper breaths than what is considered his normal. "... I shouldn't be afraid of something that-" Stupidly, Tanis glanced towards the rain continuing its onslaught beyond the tarp, hearing its echo as it smashed into the fabric shielding the pair of them from getting wet again. At this point, the rain had reached a heavy state which impaired vision, and so heavy that not even the strong wind could prevent it from shifting directions. Tanis' eyes widened and he could feel his heart race that had only just recently been calmed. His body stiffened once more and his shaking begun to start more violently again. Immediately, he retracted his gaze to the wall with a sharp turn that held no remorse to the rain that tried to take his attention, which he was refusing it. "I can live in-denial too!" Tanis announced, blurting out his words as if he were trying to convince himself that he's right. "I'm fine with that!" Despite the entire show that he gave to Meadow, he tried to put on a bravado that is the entire opposite of what he'd just subjected himself to. But whether he's actually fooling anyone with his 'act' is another matter entirely. At the very least, he's fooling himself, that counts for something, right?
But this did detract from the entire purpose of why he was here in the first place. That being said, he wasn't quite in a position to actively tackle that task, not yet. Reaching up, Tanis reached for the underside of one of Meadow's arms, and pushed it away from him slightly with the side of his paw. He did it so he could actually look at her rather than any other reason. It was a little awkward talking to her stomach after all. "... You go this far for all your friends?" Instead of discussing what he wanted to discuss, or mentioning anything resembling what happened or anything she wanted to discuss, Tanis inquired about something that popped into his mind throughout the end of the ordeal. Not only was he once again solidifying the idea that they were both friends, and real friends at that, but he was sharing interest over her actions here. Of course, he didn't know about her facing her socialization problem head-on amidst it all, everything else though, there was a lot that she had done. It wouldn't be unusual for someone to help another, that's a given, Tanis just felt it was a bit much this time around. It was a lot, and he was merely curious. That and it served as an excellent attention remover from the one thing that he wanted to forget about, to that end. He remained sat in place, facing Meadow, and while he did technically have her arm, he wasn't actively holding it that she couldn't move it instantly. His gaze on Meadow was firm, gentle, but unstable, as if it could change instantly between scared, content and angry in an instant. The words he spoke, while resembling his usual direct response, still sounded shaky and lacked his zeal. Time, according to him, should in theory fix both, sneezes pending!
