'Only those willing to bloom, will transform from their buds!' With a bright and beautiful day gracing the skies of Invictus, there were certainly no shortage of Pokémon that were outside performing various acts, more-so in Memorial Park than anywhere else. Some were merely passing through on their way to a different location within Invictus' walls, others were taking full advantage of the good day by playing, basking in the sun or chatting with friends. Others, meanwhile, were making their way towards the Memorial building, a location of grandeur, and a sharp reminder that this peace is not one that was acquired easily. For some, it's not anything they care about, for others, it means much more than just a single building. The park itself is a spectacular testament to the past, and for the future. The entire park is bustling with activity. Small confectionary stands break the otherwise clear and crisp grass, pathways, fountains and various other scenery that makes this Park a truly outstanding place to come to. While others may have spent their day rolling in the glory that was the day in its entirety, Tanis had unfortunately been otherwise preoccupied with more personal affairs than having to deal with anything that could be considered getting involved with other Pokémon. It came in the form of a serious injury that he endured a few days prior, where he ended up on the wrong end of a Growlithe's mouth and winded up getting his left arm scarred by a Bite, and then cooked alive by its Ember. Both of which had left his arm in an extensively rough shape that had forced him to give up the hunt for more Grimer's to clear Applepine Forest of their presence. Which made things amusing when it was a Growlithe that caused his injuries, and not so much a Grimer... He'll admit that it wasn't exactly the smartest of ideas to continue that battle, but then again, Growlithe didn't exactly leave him with too much choice in that regard: Fight, or who knows what would've happened. As the arm proves, which is completely coated from paw to shoulder in a yellow bandage, he chose to fight. It has made getting around very difficult. Tanis is an avid climber and he is always willing to utilize his skills in that regard to get an advantage. His method of climbing is by using the bristles on his paws to scale as if he were walking on all fours on the ground. It's... Peculiar to say the least... But it works, and it's very effective. He is still capable of doing such climbing, but with his left arm covered up, he doesn't have that arm to cling onto a surface, which means it's one less contact point that is keeping him from sliding down. That's not to mention that he prefers to throw with his left hand as well, which becomes next to impossible when he can't grip what he's trying to throw. Using his right is doable, but his left is his superior arm for it. It's a very unique situation for someone who relies on all of his arms and legs, only to suddenly have one not able to use some of its functioning... It really does shut someone down. The injury itself is a prolonging effect of a burn that he suffered, which ate away at what wasn't already charred on his arm, and had spread to the left side of his back and chest that his arm was connected to. Fortunately for him, the coloration and the overall effects of it have already begun to fade away and return to his usual green color. It's just been a much longer process than he imagined, and a painful one to boot. Compared with it, the Bite mark is nothing more than a remnant of an attack that happened prior to the burn, it will likely leave nothing more than a scar over the dozens he has already, as well as his most prominent one. He came to the park specifically to try and get his mind off of the pain and the troubles that he's had to endure as of late. Folks could easily recommend resting at home as opposed to being outside, but the though never appealed to him. This is why he's here at the Park at the moment. With no place to call home in the place, he's simply been wandering the streets and taking shelter wherever he can get his paws on it, which has typically been in the slums. This place is more... Green... Then the slums, so he prefers this place as opposed to the darker side of town. That and he feels as though many of the Pokémon there watch him as if he's someone's walking and talking dinner. Not exactly as inviting a place as someone may realize. But he will admit that there are just as many colourful Pokémon here than there are in the slums, just happier. Tanis found the Park the previous day in the early evening, though how it took him that long to find it, he had no idea. He decided this was as good a place as any to spend the rest of his days before he'd set off in search of the answers that he seeked. ... To questions he didn't know how to ask... Tanis got plenty of glares and puzzled looks, mostly because of his bandaged arm. The few he actually looked back at, met his harmed, yet solid stare as he watched them for only a couple of seconds before going on his way. Eventually he stopped at the base of a tree, a little ways away from the taken path, as he planned to stay until sundown. He didn't engage in conversation, or bother anyone for that matter, and similarly no-one did so to him. He was quite content to merely remain as an unknown spectator to the general masses as they went about their day. After he finally reached his destination, most barely realized he was there considering he blended in reasonably well with the surrounding grass. It was only when they reached his left side, the side of his bandaged arm, that he was a little more opaque to his surroundings. Ideally he'd rather be sat on the branch of the tree he was leaning on as opposed to the ground itself. He couldn't be picky however, and this was the method of least resistance. Could he scale the tree? Absolutely he could, while risking his neck in the process as he did so with three paws. That's not to say that Tanis wasn't exclusively doing nothing but sat on the grass, leaning against the trunk of the tree. One other matter occurred during his travels in the forest that really made him think. The Solarbeam he performed on the Growlithe felt somehow familiar to him, he couldn't understand it at all. Heck, he couldn't even recall how he knew what to do to use the move in the first place, it just sort of... Happened. It happened as if he knew all along how to utilize it. He had been crippled thanks to the injuries Growlithe bestowed on him, the reason for his arm being in bandage no less, and he felt an overwhelming surge in strength from within him as he felt the glow of his Overgrow envelop him. It wasn't until he picked himself from the ground after the assault on him, that he felt more than he realized he had before. That was the first clue that he was gathering even more energy than he could manage. Eventually it took the form of a bursting light originating from his mouth. So much, that he couldn't prevent himself from opening his mouth wide and allowing the initial small blip of light to grow and expand, all the while, he continue to build up the energy within him, until his body could take no more, and launched the attack without a second thought. The use of the move itself didn't trouble him one bit: It proved most fruitful at that moment, what troubled him was that everything that described it felt nostalgic, similar, familiar. But how? Tanis had no recollection of ever having used it before, how was it even possible for him to use a move that he hadn't even known existed before until that point. Tanis closed his eyes, deep in thought in an attempt to figure out how he came to this knowledge. Everything about it had him feel as though it was second nature to him, but how he came to trigger it... He didn't have a clue. It wasn't Overgrow, as he's had that trigger multiple times in the past, and it didn't happen then, so why now? Tanis held his head with his right paw as he felt a headache spread through his brain. He visibly grunted and let out the breath he didn't realize he'd held in at that moment as his thinking left him with just a blank slate, a void with no images or words depicted on it. Nothing but an empty slot that needed filling, and no way to fill it in. Just pain, and more questions. He was bought back to reality in very quick order when his left arm gave him a swift reminder that it was still attached to the rest of his body, and it was bandaged up for a reason. Instantly his free arm moved from his head to where the Bite marks are hiding in the yellow outer layer. The majority of the pain had dispersed after the first day it happened, but lingering effects remained just to spite him and remind him that he doesn't pick his battles well. At least it drew him away from trying to pick apart fragments of memories that didn't exist, so there was that. Disheartened and conflicted, Tanis permitted his body to some sort of relaxation. Letting out a sigh and looking at nothing in particular in the distance. He chose to face a direction with two paths that could see him to either side of him, so all he could see was whoever and whatever was in a grassy patch ahead of him. He couldn't say he could recognise the few Pokémon he could see as such, but they seemed peaceful enough to him, almost willing to let the day roll by without them. Perhaps one day, Tanis could look at all this as someone more respected and less intrusive in every day society... ... If only it were always that easy. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+--+-+-+-+ Orz. Introduction posts where my characters enter a place has always been among my worst weaknesses. I just couldn't get the flow right at all after having tried twice already. I'm genuinely not pleased with this one, and I hope it's suitable enough to cling onto something you can use. Let me know if you can't, and I'll change something, somewhere.

"Now, Meadow," a firm voice spoke to the Pichu at the back of the store. "There are a lot of deliveries to make today. I know you're very good, but are you sure you can make all these deliveries within the next couple of hours?" The Ivysaur's violet eyes arched as he looked at the considerably smaller Pokemon with quite a bit of concern. Meadow had been working at Ivysaur's Lively Flowers for a couple months now. After a first shaky initiation, and a few harsh words from her boss, Ivysaur was convinced at that point that Meadow was a genuine Pichu who loved caring for flowers. However, something that he found he had to do around her was watch what he said. She was quite the sensitive little one, and he certainly didn't want to crush her spirits. He could tell she was a good kid and meant very well.
Meadow shot Ivysaur one of the gentlest smiles he'd ever seen a Pokemon give, though he'd seen gentler on her. It was quite hard to be genuinely kind when she was carrying a large pile of flowers on her back. Keeping herself in balance was a struggle, and she really had to strain herself to smile. "Oh, don't worry Mr. Ivysaur, sir," Meadow reassured. "I know it looks like I'm overwhelmed, but I'm happy to be of service. I just-" Meadow grunted as she one of her front paws almost slipped underneath her, causing the flowers to begin tumbling over her head. It would have been quite the disaster, if Meadow hadn't recovered so quickly by throwing her head back a little. The only casualties were a few fly away petals. "I'm so excited to see the faces of all the Pokemon when I give them these beautiful flowers!"
Ivysaur chuckled a bit. Meadow had been quite the... interesting new recruit. It was certainly odd to have her around, and her shy demeanor upon first talking to Ivysaur brought some initial concern that she may not have been the best fit. However, it was quick to see that he had made the best possible choice thanks to Meadow's absolute adoration for flowers, and plants of just about any kind. Meadow tended to become a completely different Pokemon when the topic of any kind of plants came up. She could talk for hours about them, and explain any facts she could think of off the top of her head. "Well," Ivysaur rolled his eyes, forming a smile at Meadow's eagerness. "Just remember: you have two hours to make all of those deliveries. I want you back here before sundown, which will happen in six hours, and then you can gather your stuff and be off for the day. Okay?"
Meadow nodded with some difficulty. "I'll be back before you know it, sir!" Meadow exclaimed, though her exclamations sounded more like a normal volume. Ivysaur simply nodded and off she went. If she were to get all of those deliveries done, she had to move fast!
---
Meadow tapped her paw on a door, and a Teddiursa opened the door, a smile on her face when she looked at the friendly Pichu. "Why, hello there, Miss," the Tedidursa greeted, though by the expression on her face, Meadow could tell that she only vaguely remembered who she was. "I suppose you're here to deliver my purple morning glories?"
Meadow nodded eagerly. "Yes, ma'am," she replied, setting her bag down and taking out a large bouquet of the flowers. "Fascinating specimens, aren't they? And so unique, too. I just love their combination of purple and white, and how they spiral like a drill." Meadow let out a slight giggle at the thought. "I wish I could be as beautiful as one of these flowers."
Teddiursa chuckled a bit, herself. "My, my," she commented. "You never cease to amaze me just how much you know about flowers!" The bear peered over to the sack. "It seems as though you have nothing else to deliver. Are you sure you don't want to come in and discuss more? You still have well over five hour before sunset, and I could brew you up some nice tea, and give you some cookies."
Suddenly a chill ran up Meadow's spine and she practically felt like she would permanently freeze in that spot. Luckily, she was able to recover much faster than she had least time, but that wasn't saying much considering the bear was waving her had in front of the Pichu's face for about a good thirty seconds before she snapped out of it. "Oh, no," Meadow shook her head, holding her hand out in objection, starting to get a tad bit more nervous. "I couldn't take that much of your time. And besides I... I have to get back to the shop right away. Ivysaur said I really needed to hustle with the deliveries today." Meadow glanced the Teddiursa with a wide smile, retreating before the customer had the chance to object.
---
Upon realizing she was at a reasonable distance from the Teddiursa, Meadow inwardly berated herself. This was her attempt at friendship? That Teddiursa was probably given the impression that Meadow didn't like her. Sometimes the Pichu didn't even know why she bothered. At this point, not even plants would be enough for her to make friends. The only reason she even had that job to begin with was because she knew she would be in an environment where she would have plants in her sight at all times.
Still, even with plants in the equation, Meadow couldn't keep a long conversation going. Eventually, other Pokemon would get sick of her blabbing on and on about plants, and when the conversation would change, she'd just clam up again. Meadow sighed. Maybe she should have just faced facts in the first place. The only friends her shyness and meekness would get her was plants. Sure, they were pretty to look at, but they couldn't fill a void like an actual living Pokemon would.
Just as she was about to head back to the shop early to find something else to do, or perhaps call it a day and catch up on some much needed studying, something caught her eye. Something... green. It was quite interesting because, really, she shouldn't have even noticed it since that something, or rather someone, was sitting against a tree. Meadow tilted her head at the site of a Treecko leaning against a tree, seemingly not too happy about a wound he'd conjured up somehow.
The Pichu's large, triangular ears lowered. Being injured was never fun, and that Treecko seemed rather down. As much as Meadow couldn't bring herself to talk to strangers, she hated seeing them upset. And, for some reason, this particular situation seemed... different. Meadow was a little intimidated like she always was, but there was something about the way that Treecko held his expression that made Meadow steel her resolve. No matter how much her instincts would scream at her that it wouldn't work, which they did, she was determined to help that Treecko.
...But she didn't quite know how...
Placing a paw over her chin, she suddenly thought to look through her bag, just to see if she had any extra flowers left. Sometimes her customers would request that she add extra flowers to a bouquet if it seemed like they didn't look quite right. It was lucky for her that customers rarely did that today, given how many customers she had delivered flowers to. And now there were plenty of lovely flowers for her to choose from that would surely brighten this Treecko's day.
Why, there was enough here to fill an entire bouquet. Normally, it was against the store policy to give anyone a free bouquet for any reason, but Meadow simply reasoned to herself that she would have Ivysaur take it out of her salary. With the swift expertise she had developed through a lifetime of taking care of flowers, and setting up bouquets of her own, Meadow had made quite the masterpiece. There were a few daffodils, a gebera daisy, anthuriums, and plenty of alstroemaria. The Pichu smiled at her handiwork, took in a big breath, and let out a stead sigh before she approached the tree the Treecko was sitting against.
With great hesitation, Meadow raised her had slightly to reach out to him before bringing her paw back slightly. Folding that paw into a fist, she steeled her courage, and gently placed a hand on the Treecko's shoulder in an attempt to grab his attention. "Excuse me," she spoke in a bit of a shaky voice before gulping, clearing her throat. "I... I'm sorry to bother you, sir?" Meadow had assumed that the Treecko was male due to his mannerisms, but she stated it in a form of a question just to be sure. Treeckos, unlike most of the Pichu line, had no gender differences. "Um... I couldn't help..." Meadow was still so hesitant, she began stumbling over her words. "I mean... I... Um..."
Meadow struggled to take control of her nerves. No. If she kept this up, she'd just make him feel worse by making him think she thought he was scary. This was to cheer him up, not make him feel bad.
She was going to do this. "I couldn't help but notice that you were sad," her voice was still shaky, but she did a better job to hide it at this point. "I just so happened to have this bouquet of flowers, and... and I thought they would make you feel better." Meadow forced a smile onto her face, though this must have been the least convincing one she'd ever had. "I... I hope they make you feel better, sir."

Underneath the heat of the sun's rays, lay in the completely opposite direction to someone that may have seeked it for shade, Tanis watched the other Pokémon that he could see nearby go about their business as if he didn't exist. This process followed for a couple of minutes, during which time the pain he had been forced to endure had dissipated to a more manageable state, which it continues to sway from that state on occasion, if not aggravated by him doing something to have him move his arm. Yet it was at this moment that he came up with a brilliant idea, to his standards at least. He certainly didn't feel the pain while sleeping. The journey to the park was a touch long, and the sun's rays feel so comforting and enlightening, Tanis certainly wouldn't mind catching forty winks underneath this tree. After all, it would mean he'd recover slightly more quickly. As soon as the idea entered his head, it wouldn't go away no matter how little he actually tried to forget about it, mostly because he didn't object to it and wanted to do it. So, that's exactly what he did.
First it involved him shuffling and fidgeting against the tree in an attempt to get into a much more comfortable position. That ended up with him slinking against the grass slightly: His lower back now exposed to the air, with his upper back and head still leant against the trunk of the tree. The rest of his body remained on the grass, except for his arms, which he cradled atop his stomach, his right arm covering what he could of his left. It was that moment where you couldn't quite get into that precise position you're after before you're able to feel like you could get to sleep, spend a little time repositioning, until you get to that one position where your mind thinks 'That's the position!' Then you daren't move from it lest you start the process all over again. It wasn't exactly the most keen of positions, but Tanis felt comfortable in it, and he wasn't about to change it just for the sake of any other reason. In his newfound position, he spent the fleeting moments before deciding that sleep was finally better than watching anything from what he could see. A few Pokémon he could see were doing as much as Tanis was: Sunbathing. Though they were more out in the open and much more prepared for it: Towels, sunglasses, some sort of gloopy stuff they were coating themselves with... Seriously, who would do that just to be out in the sun? Most of the Pokémon however were more interested in going from one location to the next, sometimes alone, sometimes talking with someone else, sometimes as a group of at least four. They stuck mostly on the paths, though a few did divert to the grass, or cut straight through it. Tanis didn't bother following anyone in particular with his sight as they passed by, he was about twenty paces away from the nearest pathway, and clearly nobody wanted to take a dedicated enough effort to actually approach him. He followed them only as far as his peripheral vision allowed before it became necessary to turn his head to continue, which he wouldn't do, so that's when it ended.
He continued this charade for a couple more Pokémon before his arm flared up in pain just enough to grab his attention and make him shift his right paw to grab his forearm, just shy of his elbow. He had neglected the reason he found his comfortable position in the first place, and the whole idea of being injured and incapable of doing anything that he really wanted to do, that being wander around some more, was disconcerting to say the very least. With a defeated sigh, he gave an attempt to fight through his pain enough to try and grab some sleep, closing his eyes in anticipation of the slumber ritual his body undertook to reach its state. So many things were on his mind, it was very easy to see that he was at the very least distressed about something that had been plaguing him for some time, even the most briefest of respites would do his body good, or so he hoped.
This was the reason he didn't see the electric mouse approach him, or hear her for that matter. But he did actually get a signal that she was, in fact, coming towards him. What made him give pause to the notion that it was, in fact, someone coming towards him, was because it was not sound nor the feeling of dread that most Pokémon intent on harm could potentially exhibit, but rather it was by his sense of smell. It was as vague as mist at first, a passing scent that anyone could consider as something just from a gust of wind that picked it up somehow. Yet the scent got strangely stronger with each passing second. What made it interesting was not so much there was a lingering scent, but that the scent wasn't anything that Tanis would consider horrific, but it was definitely a mix of multiple flavors that created an odd blended mix, like a smoothie, but for the nose and not the mouth. It seemed to him like the scent of being in a garden, or perhaps a fruit basket, which he concluded from the tang-like smell mixed in among the rest. That wasn't the only scent that wafted through his nose, but it was the one that took his attention the most over the rest. He didn't conclude that it was from a bouquet of flowers however, and that similarly didn't lead to him working out someone had approached him.
So gripped to the notion of wanting to catch some sleep, he never actually twigged that someone had approached him and was literally within arm's reach of him, until he heard the said Pokémon was about three steps away from being within arm's reach of him, and those three steps didn't take that long to complete either. Great, just as he was about to get some shut-eye, someone opted to actually disturb him, if they had any better timing, they'd probably meet deadlines every time, right on time. With the scent that he'd been smelling now at its most pronounced, Tanis correctly concluded the source of the odour was from the arrival. Tanis debated briefly on acting first before whoever it was had a chance to do so. He could potentially turn the supposed element of surprise he thought his guest had and swing the entire situation around by its head. It's a viable strategy he's performed before... With mixed results. But this was no time to be nitpicky. Affirming with himself that this was the plan, Tanis took a breath and waited for the moment to arrive. The best time to spring his own trap in this scenario was to strike as the other geared up for a full attack. After all, what else is someone going to do when their target is exposed? The best solution would be to strike with all they have right out of the gate. That means a longer wind-up to using whatever the attack is. That was the moment to spring the trap.
Tanis' body felt tense, the once limber feeling that he had before he tried to get to sleep had all but disappeared with his guest now putting in an appearance. Without any sort of visual confirmation, he didn't have any idea who he was actually dealing with. Definitely someone who actually took the time to approach him specifically, that's for sure. The tense feeling continued to flow through his whole body, and it gave way to yet another feeling: Newfound pain. His injured left arm tensed along with the rest of his body, and it made quite certain that Tanis was paying for the solitary act of doing what he always does every time he felt a fight was coming. The only relief he had from it, was that he had straddled it with his right, which he squeezed in an attempt to nullify the pain, to little effect. Through gritted teeth, he continued to play his charade, keeping his eyes closed and attempting to not give the sign that he was awake and aware of the other's presence. He thought he was doing a reasonable job, his face told a different tale altogether. The pained expression he had was all too obvious just what was plaguing him at that moment. He knew he should be avoiding a battle, he's not in the best condition to fully commit to one, yet if he has to... He will overexert himself as best as he always has. His body may be betraying him, but his resolve was infallible.
He was ready!
What he wasn't expecting however, was what he winded up getting. He thought he was ready for anything that was sent his way. Yet the Pichu's paw connected to Tanis' shoulder before he even realized it. The shock was pretty evident from both his face and his reaction. His eyes flew open in an instant as not only did his trap come too late, his guest got him cleanly and perfectly. "Gnk!? ..." Emitting a sound that kind of sounded like he choked on something, Tanis had never once considered that whoever it was would try something so instantaneously. The single saving grace that came his way from the sudden predicament, was the voice that followed. No-one intent on wanting to beat him to a pulp or eat him for dinner would hail him like that after a mere gentle touch like that. Finally, partially with anticipation, but mostly with confusion, Tanis turned. His position changing to a lay position on his right side, legs together, and his right paw grasping the trunk of the tree away from the rest of his upper body, which was more upright, albeit at a slight angle towards the tree as well. That's when he came face-to-flowers with his 'assailant'.
For better or for worse, the electric mouse had gained Tanis' attention, exactly as she seeked at that precise moment. But as the conversation stumbled into stuttering and uncertainty, was it truly what she actually wanted? Tanis remained in his position at first, seeing the Pichu as nothing more than yellow feet, pointy ears, and a bouquet of flowers. She stood over him enough that the rest of her was hidden away from his inferior position. As the war of words begun, Tanis took the opportunity to get himself upright, a matter that only took a couple of seconds, using the tree as support as he clambered up to be more in-line with the Pichu. He didn't really stand any taller than she was, perhaps only a very slight height difference, yet for some reason, he couldn't help but feel that she was perhaps trying to shrink to a smaller size as she struggled to form a complete sentence, hesitating, fearful of the unknown. Despite that, she definitely stood out amid'st the greenery of the park, that bright yellow fur definitely would make spotting her quite easy in this backdrop. Of course, holding a bouquet of flowers also doesn't assist in that regard either. He may have found the scene somewhat amusing, if it wasn't for the fact it was at his expense, so to speak. His initial shocked reaction slowly twisted into a miffed frown as he eyed the electric mouse, waiting for her to decide what she actually wanted to say. Each moment that passed, his gaze grew colder.
Pichu managed to gather herself in short order, and before long, she was explaining a reasoning that Tanis guessed made a lot of sense in her head. He remained quiet throughout the explanation, not disturbing nor interjecting at any point. His eyes followed only to the subject matter that she had bought up at that particular moment. When she mentioned the bouquet of flowers that she just so happened to have, he eyed the group of nestled stems and petals that resembled a sizeable quantity. Picking a single flower to make somebody feel better is certainly one thing, but this felt... A bit much, perhaps bordering overdoing it entirely. Similarly, when she bought mention to him feeling better, his eyes darted to his left side, where his bandaged arm flopped on his side, as an inactive implement that he chose not to move as such. As if his mind willed it, he got a single throb of pain as a response to him looking at it, as if to mock him and say 'Yup, I'm still here!' On both occasions, he returned his gaze back to the Pichu, The precise same glare he'd sported to her since before she began the explanation.
Tanis bared his gritted teeth slightly as he released the breath he didn't realize he was holding in, to allow a disgruntled and somewhat exhausted exhale emanate. He was conflicted about the situation that had just presented itself to him. This Pichu disturbed him to present some flowers for him just because he looked sad and thought he'd feel better? In hindsight, Tanis has triggered and battled Pokémon for less reasons than that. But there was one thing that was a little different from any of those other times, and it's what had him conflicted. At those times, the reason was because the inevitability of attacks being exchanged was self-evident before any words were even exchanged, which churned out typical quips and one-liners that didn't make too much sense. Yet it was another reason for Tanis to go after them. This was different made purely by the Pichu's tone and her stance. She did not look like she was going to do anything whatsoever in terms of launching an attack, that and she was determined to present the bouquet rather than something that could be construed as an invitation for battle. Her tone didn't exhibit any sort of inclination of aggression whatsoever either. Tanis did have some concern about the smile she gave afterwards though. It sort of looked like that there was something wrong that she hadn't shared as of yet. Even so, it was still not one of malicious intent, or so he figured.
His eyes diverted away from her own black orbs, and back to the bouquet that she had been holding for the entire duration. The scent that he had smelt before the altercation was definitely emanating from within their colourful patchwork. This wasn't the first time he has seen a bouquet filled with an assortment of flowers. However, what he usually noticed as the trend, was that the flowers themselves typically only consisted of two varieties, yet were prepared in a display envious of even the most self-indulged cutest of Pokémon, or were picked completely at random by a mother's child as a gift for them. This assortment was neither of those things. The complexity behind the art of creating a high standard bouquet of flowers is an intricate design that easily takes a lot of practice, practice that Tanis could see was put into use here. The assorted flowers, which he discerned to be three in majority with a single fourth in the middle, attempting to stand out from the rest, were laden with a mixture of colours, fragrances and unique specimens that Tanis couldn't quite recognise. One he identified, thanks to its commonality, was the Daffodil. Then again, almost anyone could determine what one of those are, so that's hardly any amount of surprise. It lingers specifically in Tanis' mind largely due to their significance and what they represent. Though to see them combined with other flowers is particularly interesting, especially ones so... Varied. He pinned the majority of the bouquet as looking like a type of lily flower, though that certainly didn't look like one he'd seen before, he figured he was wrong at that assessment. The other two he was completely clueless about: A red leaf-like thing? There's a flower like that? He stared, glued to the assortment that the Pichu called a bouquet. As varied as the flowers were, they didn't appear completely out of place with each other, somehow mixing together so that the ones that stood out did so accompanied by those that surrounded them.
Finally, Tanis pulled his eyes away from Pichu's creation, and back to Pichu herself. As ironic as it sounded, her flowers actually had the intended effect... Sort of. Gone was the otherwise cold glare that he was giving her, one that was undecided whether he was going to lash out or not, and replaced by a gaze that appeared a little more still and disputable. He had left her hanging after her explanation without having said a single thing back to her, just because he originally thought there was an ill-intention behind her actions that hadn't sat right with him. That fact was still true, but he had lost the inclination in wanting to do anything about it, at least right now. Having stood like a statue bar head movement post-explanation, Tanis finally moves. As per prediction, his right arm left the trunk of the tree, seeing him stood under his own full weight, and met with his left arm that he also raised. Having lost feeling in his left, he begun lightly rubbing it with his right to try and get it back. The last thing he wanted was pins and needles flowing in that arm alongside everything else he'd have to put up with. He breaks the silence at that point, clinging to the last point she bought up as opposed to any other. "... Noticed, did you?" he spoke, as if his entire arm being coated in a bandage wasn't obvious enough for anyone to notice. Even though he also posed it as a question, it was more rhetorical than anything else. He wasn't expecting too much of an answer, if he'd even get one. After all, it was plenty obvious.
It had, however, left an otherwise awkward silence between the two Pokémon for at least a good ten seconds. He had no idea what was going through the electric mouse's head or what she had hoped to acquire from her kind gesture. A part of him wasn't even sure if he really wanted to find out. That's also not to mention that the whole thing seemed somewhat surreal, to put it bluntly. That array of flowers is most certainly not really something you'd just hand out to a complete stranger you have only just met that day, regardless of whether he's feeling sad or not. Even so, he didn't think just standing there saying nothing was setting such a good example to someone that actually wanted to gift him something. Battling blindly is one thing, being outright ignorant and childish is another. Though both words could potentially describe Tanis rather well for the most part. He still felt obligated to try, at the very least, to inquire enough about the bouquet in an attempt to at least try to ensure that he's at least considered the offer, in spite of not accepting it at the present time. "... Are you sure? They look rare." He quizzed and commented, pointing at the bouquet the Pichu was holding with his bandaged left paw, as his right was still occupied on the arm. A gentler question that he was expecting a response to, unlike the first. He hesitated briefly at first because he was still conflicting over the issue, besides that, he continued with his direct and to the point approach that he projected with his first 'question'. In lieu of probing with that question, he didn't reach out to take the bouquet from the Pichu, nor did he approach any closer. He stood, silently after speaking, awaiting the response and continuing to deliberate about the situation. His gaze not once leave Pichu's eyes after he probes with the query about the flowers. This is a unique situation that he's somehow found himself in, and to say he's not too sure how to go about it is putting it mildly. It's still not completely out of the cards for thing to go aggressive, even if it didn't start out as such. As distrusting as that sounds, the last thing he wants is to be caught where he's most vulnerable.
... Ignoring the fact she did it once already.
Still, he was going to play it by ear, and see what happens before deciding what the next course of action should be. His body language displayed a neutral stance that diverted neither to relaxation, nor to doing anything else besides rubbing his left arm, yet his face and eyes tell a slightly different tale: Unyielding, focused, reading. Battling was still very much a real option at this junction, but Tanis wasn't seeing anything that suggested it... Yet. These next few moments were going to be key in that decision.

Meadow twitched a bit upon realizing she had awoken the Treecko from a nap, mentally slapping herself. How could she not have realized he was resting? Perhaps it hadn't dawned on her because she was too focused on building up the courage to even approach him? That was honestly the only explanation she could think of that made any sense, aside from the fact that she was just overthinking everything. She supposed that second explanation probably made better sense.
The first several moments after she offered him the flowers were met with silence. This partially gave her a sense of relief, and partly made her nervous. Relief because she could take a few moments to breed without saying anything stupid, and nervous because the Treecko had quite the intimidating glare. His wide, reptilian eyes glanced from her flowers back to herself, refraining from saying a word. His expression soften slightly after a while, but the more time passed the more awkward it was. Also, it was rather difficult to read his intentions when he kept a rather indiscernible expression on his face.
Meadow herself found it rather hard to keep eye contact with him, and even though she tried her best, her eyes would occasionally wander to his or her own feet. Despite his attempt at keeping to near her height, though, Meadow still felt uneasy. It was clear to her that she may have made a mistake, but it wasn't like she could back out of it anyway. Maybe if she just stayed perfectly still, things would be just fine. Well, looking up and down wasn't exactly being perfectly still, now was it? The Pichu's feet crunched the grass under her feet as she shuffled them. Now she regretted actually being happy about the silence.
Lucky for her, though, it didn't last as long as she may have thought it did. He pointed at his left arm as if to make sure he understood what she meant. Meadow was about to respond, since she was so eager to stop this awkward silence, but the context of his comment occurred to her. It probably wasn't meant to be answered, so she simply replied with a shy and timid, "...Oh." For the next few moments, the silence persisted, bringing more nerves out of Meadow. Her eyes glanced down at her shuffling feet again, though her ears weren't as low as they had been. She noticed that her feet were considerably smaller than his, not that she wasn't already used to that. What interested her was their shape. She wondered if they really gave Treecko the capability of climbing trees.
He spoke up again, bringing her attention instantly back to the Treecko himself. Finally, he addressed the flowers she had, but what would she do now? Well, she supposed she could dispute that claim. After all, while some of these flowers were certainly unique, rare was not exactly true. It was still something she'd be ready to talk about, no matter who asked her. "Well," Meadow began. "I'm afraid these flowers aren't rare, sir. I actually got these flowers from my garden. I grew them myself, and I believe that they'll do you better use than me, so I insist you take them." For a moment it actually seemed like Meadow had quite a bit of confidence, but that only lasted for less than a second before she had coward down again. "I mean... If you want them. It's okay if you don't... B-but I insist you take them! Um... Unless you don't want them, of course..."
Meadow kept struggling with keeping herself confident, and soon just decided to change the subject to something- anything -else. In an instant, her eyes wandered to his injury, but that was hardly something to be talking about. No one liked talking about unpleasant things to a stranger, especially one who could barely make eye contact, such as herself. Then, an idea came up. "Um..." she took a deep breath. "I... couldn't help but wonder... Can Treecko really climb up trees and walls?" Meadow had never met a Treecko in person, though she had seen various paintings and pictures of them, but she had always been intrigued by various Pokemon talking about the cool and somewhat scary ability Treecko had for climbing.

Tanis hadn't taken too much notice of it at first, partially because he was a little more invested in ensuring that the Pichu wasn't going to do anything brash or sudden, despite what initially appeared to be a genuine heartfelt action. It was pretty obvious what she was doing, but he wasn't sure what it meant persay. For some reason, she kept on looking at the ground space between the both of them, at least that's what he thought she was doing. Though he didn't twig that she was looking primarily at both of their feet, the question that came into his mind was 'Why?' Why was the electric mouse glancing at the ground in the middle of the conversation for seemingly no reason? It could've been any number of reasons, but it was nothing that he could visually see, when he glanced down with her after the third or fourth time she did it. Is there something she knows that he doesn't? Is it a trap she's deploying?!? The thought jumped into his mind almost as if he always expects the worst-case scenario out of any situation. His immediate thought was to step away, and fast, before whatever she sprung on him could catch him. Instinctively, Tanis took one step backward, only his left leg taking that step, until he started having second thoughts about it.
It is certainly a viable possibility that she has indeed set a trap right under their feet on the ground between them, and he literally took the bait, hook and line! In order for that to have worked as he expected it to, two things had to have happened. Firstly, the Pichu had to have prepared the trap beforehand, and secondly, she had to have done it before Tanis got there. What was to say this... Scenario... Would play out five feet away, where the trap would be ineffective? Tanis was here before she was, lest she planned that far ahead. Though with no offense to the yellow mouse, he concluded the probability of all of those things combined bringing this situation to be an actual outside trap to be quite low. It didn't stop him from responding to his guest, of course. But it merely bought him back to the original question that spurred the logic behind a potential trap: Why was she looking at the ground? Social cues is not quite a speciality of his. Some basic stuff, but nothing that he'd acquire a degree in. His penultimate conclusion, was that he had no conclusion, the Pichu just clearly preferred to not keep eye contact as such and take a little more interest in the ground. Maybe he could ask her? She does seem talkative enough.
There were quite a lot of things that the electric mouse stated on her response to the flowers. He did agree with one thing she said: The flowers likely aren't as rare as he may have first realized. Daffodils are not exactly known for being incredibly uncommon by any stretch of the imagination. He suspected only desert-like regions probably didn't have them, maybe underwater areas too, but he certainly wasn't going to go find out! He couldn't completely deny the claim, perhaps 'rare' was not the correct word to use, but it was the only word he thought to use at that moment. It did make him feel a little sheepish, as he lightly scratched the side of his face with his right paw, using only a single digit doing so, as he also avoided eye contact thanks to that statement, looking to his left. There wasn't anything there besides a couple of far-off Pokémon doing something otherwise unrelated. He continued to listen, his eyes shifting back to the Pichu when the response continued. It was the last comment that bought him back to her in an instant.
That was certainly a bold thing to say!
Hmm... Perhaps he has misjudged this Pokémon that he had dismissed so far as someone who may not be wanting to take an aggressive stance. While it continued to belong to the aspect of him accepting the gift she was bestowing upon him, the way she said it seemed to indicate, just for a moment, that he had no choice in the matter. He had to take the bouquet that she was presenting, no ifs or buts about it. Despite the strong showing, they still remained words, and the words she was using still showed no actual sign that she wanted to duke it out.... Though maybe if he denied the request long enough, maybe she would? But in that moment, she was a different Pokémon. That moment unfortunately didn't last very long, as in a complete 180 turn, it seemed like she retracted her last statement and turned it into one that kind of implied it, but still gave him the option to turn it down. Nonetheless, she still did it, and that definitely attracted Tanis' attention. His gaze on her didn't waver for a moment, his own moment of losing eye contact completely removed and full focus was back on herself. Yet despite the fact it could've been construed as aggressive words towards him, what was really so bad about insisting he accepted a gift? Granted, it would depend on the gift, but a bouquet of flowers? That's... Not really very threatening, not to him at least.
The Pichu's lack of confidence aside, Tanis actually found the insistence to be enlightening. No-one had ever done that to him before, and he wasn't too sure he'd hear it again like this. She may have tried to downplay the whole thing by sounding unsure of herself again straight afterwards, but that fell on deaf ears, what he heard was what she said the first time round, and that's what he went with. Ignoring that fact, he had actually considered accepting the insisted gift anyway, what stopped him was more to the fact that he thought those flowers were originally hers, which turns out they were, and he found the logic weird that she want to give them away so suddenly to someone, he thought, she didn't even know. The scent of the flowers had a mixed aroma, with its strongest being that tang fruit he initially smelt before she got his attention, but as well as the colours of the flowers mixing in seemingly perfectly so none ultimately clashed with the rest, the aroma pleased the senses and gave his nose a little kick, a reminder that the world is not completely filled with foul odors like Grimer. Overall he was willing, but hesitant. Yet with the electric mouse's insistence to take them, well... The hesitance quickly evaporated.
That's when he made his decision. Though he had no idea what the Pichu wanted with any of this, nor did he really know what was wrong with her, he concluded that she was not out to attack him. After all, why give a bouquet of flowers to someone if your intent was malicious? To be fair, it likely still is all things considered. But Tanis was content enough that his logic was sound enough to take that risk for the moment. If it did all turn out to be a ruse, then he'd merely have to adjust to it. Until then, he'd play this game for the moment and see what happens. He also concluded that there was a reason for all of it, a reason he didn't know, that he felt he'd need to probe her about. But first thing's first, he'd better adhere to the Pichu's demand. Smirking, and with his eyes closed, he retracted the step backwards he took moments earlier, and instead took a vague step forwards closer. He still remained barely out of touching distance from Pichu herself, but with both Pokémon reaching out, he could reach the bouquet. "Well. If you insist." Tanis slyly commented, pretending that her insistence was what made him decide. Technically it did, but it wasn't the only reason. Tanis reopened his eyes after speaking, while still quite far from making this a heart-warming moment by any stretch of the imagination, his overall expression lightened just a little. Compassion is hard to come by, so he took what he had. That said, he continued to retain an overall serious composure amid'st his one-sided smile. "... Thank you, stranger."
Tanis reached out with both of his paws, including the bandaged one, to finally accept the gift that the Pichu had attempted to give to him. Fully set on the idea of handling the melody that was the group of flowers that formed the bouquet, he was stopped momentarily only by the question that followed the comments that Tanis immersed himself in listening to. Like the times before, he looked at the Pichu and listened as she asked him about the Treecko's ability to climb surfaces. Bending his formerly outstretched arms just a little as a result of the question, he looked at her with an inquisitive look. Well, that just randomly appeared out of the ether all of a sudden! Where did that come from? As generic as that question seemed, that's still quite a wild one that he wasn't entirely convinced was one someone should ask to another that they barely know. That said, it was still an interesting enough question that seemed to indicate that not only that she knew about Treecko's, but that she likely hasn't met one before. It didn't change anything all that much, but Tanis did consider it an odd question to ask at that particular moment. Perhaps it was the first thing that popped into her head to start a conversation? He did just agree to himself that he'd play along for the moment, so he was along for the ride that was this question. Fortunately, he had a more immediate answer that didn't take as long to put a response to than the previous ones. "You're well informed." Tanis confirmed. He didn't entirely say it outright, but he didn't deny the claim. He couldn't, because it was true, and if there was one thing he enjoyed doing, besides the usual, it was clambering up surfaces. It had unfortunately been limited as of late thanks to the bandage on his arm, but that's more because he can't grip onto a surface wearing a bandage over his paw. "Better seen than explained though." Tanis concluded, attempting to deflect a future question of how he does it. It's a complicated theory that he does somewhat understand, but he isn't quite sure how he can put it all into words. A visual representation would likely make the explanation for him a lot more than if he tried to explain it himself, which could wind up turning into a mitigated disaster...
Thinking that line of conversation had concluded, Tanis once again extended his arms to accept the bouquet that Pichu 'insisted' he took. But as he reached for them, he realized one clear fact: She is at least trying to be civil... All he's doing is... Being himself. The real problem wasn't so much that he couldn't converse with others, the problem was that they typically wind up being one-sided as the majority of the time, it's not so much about the subject, it's because he doesn't really end his part of the conversation with something anyone else could utilize to continue it. Which he ironically just demonstrated just there. An awkward feeling suddenly rose in his stomach as he envisioned the situation in his mind. Tanis gritted his teeth as he clenched the paw on his left arm into a fist brief, in a pitiful attempt to alleviate the pain that built up again, before returning it to how it was. She's trying, he's not. Although Tanis didn't understand the concept as such, he could at least see that something had made her want to ask him that question. Perhaps THAT's the reason she wanted to give the bouquet, so she could ask that question without too many complications? Now that's sneaky! There's definitely more to her than she's giving herself credit for. Or maybe he's jumping to too many conclusions again. In either case, he mentally hit himself for derailing the discussion to a single answer like that, and conjured up literally anything related to the matter that would at least provoke another response for the conversation to continue. "Did you want to see?" As soon as those words escaped his mouth, he frowned at himself for even suggesting it. He thought her asking the previous question was out of the blue, where the heck did that come from? Who would even offer something like that without at least confirming that she actually held a proper interest in the matter.
Idiot!
Well, he asked it now, so he can't exactly retract it or rewind time to change it to something else that was related. Besides, it wasn't like he disliked climbing anyway, or that it took a great deal of effort on his part, so doing it could certainly be possible. If nothing else though, he at least tried to keep the conversation going even if it wasn't what he initially intended. That was really something he had to work on.... But how?

Meadow's face formed an eager smile as the Treecko finally decided to accept the gift. Meadow reached out as far as her little arms could reaching, even going as far as pushing herself to the tips of her toes. However, her question she had asked, at the worst possible time mind you, interrupted him. Meadow's ears lowered at his reaction, his reptilian eyes squinting at her question. It made her realize how odd of a question it was to ask a stranger. She was about to apologize for even asking, but then he answered. She noticed that he was rather slow to respond to things, and really liked to chew on the question before making his answer. Being a Pokemon who liked thinking a lot, Meadow could really appreciate the way he operated.
Though, his response made it a tad awkward. Meadow brought it up to keep the conversation going just to have the attempt shot down. He really didn't want to converse, did he? Maybe it wasn't something he wanted to talk about at the moment? Then her attention was brought back to his paw. Oh... "I'm so sorry!" Meadow tried to say as she gritted her teeth. "I-I forgot they you're injured. I didn't mean to... I mean..." Once again, Meadow's voice became quieter and quieter as she spoke. What a stupid thing to bring up. She honestly wondered why she even bothered some times.
Still, he seemed interested in the gift despite her goof up, but then he paused again. Oh dear. What was it now? Was there something in her face? Perhaps she smelled? She had to work really hard that day, but she didn't feel sweaty. Was it her breath? No, it couldn't have. She made sure she brushed her teeth everyday, and she even remembered how crooked her mirror was.
It was only then that she noticed that the Treecko's eyes seemed to soften a bit. It wasn't out of kindness, mind you, but something along the lines of... concern? Regret? For whatever reason, he felt bad about something. Bad enough to hesitate in taking the gift. Was he feeling bad about taking something that was from her garden? Before she could even have a chance at questioning his sudden reluctance, Tanis interrupted her with a question of his own.
He asked if she wanted to see it? Well, certainly, but she wouldn't allow herself to forget about the injury again. Meadow eyed the injury, and suddenly a frown was worn upon his face. Had he regretted that decision because of his arm? It was quite the sudden proposal, but the very fact that he was willing to do it brought a gentle smile upon her face. "Oh, I would love to see that," she admitted with a bit of a giggle at his frown. "But I wouldn't want you to over exert yourself considering your injury."
Oh, but what if that made it seem like she didn't want to see it? And what if that would hurt his feelings? Ugh, and she was still holding onto the bouquet! "Oh, how silly of me!" Meadow apologized. "You're injured! Maybe you should sit. I could put the flowers on your lap if you want. Or right next to you would be fine, too. Just, please, sit and rest your arm."

Tanis was afraid that would happen. That was the second time that he'd answered with a specific non-answer that she had appropriately dismissed by, what he felt like, was a mistake on her part. Regardless of the means that he took in regards to actually speaking with her, which was more one-sided rather than anything else, the Pichu continued to try and assert herself, and once again bought up the subject of the bouquet, which despite saying that he would accept them, had yet to actively do so besides reaching out. He stopped initially because of the question she posed prior to that point, and how sudden it was. The fact that she continuously tried to have her way and try to command him, at that particular point, and begun to get to him just a bit. The first time he merely took it in his stride and made a sly response about it, which she didn't seem to mind, or ignored. Now it appeared as though she was fussing over him paw and tail, and trying to get him to sit down on the grass, as he was before she arrived. He didn't say anything about it openly, but his glance... The anger that had been largely quelled begun to surface again, and it was rolling in fast. That said, he still didn't quite feel the inclination to suddenly attack. He instead had the notion of instead just taking the flowers, making his excuses, and leaving. He didn't understand why the electric mouse was doing what she was doing, and he was beginning to lose interest at that point. Not he just needed to figure out a way to excuse himself and leave without her following him or making things worse-off than they already were. The idea didn't strike him by the point he extended his arms a third time to receive the bouquet of flowers. This time, he was not deterred enough by what was said to stop himself to respond or for some other reason. The impact of the weight of the bouquet themselves were a little heavier than he first imagined they would be. Initially, he shuffled the position of the bouquet itself so he was supporting the stem-side with the flat of his left paw, supported mainly with his right. This was more so he didn't drop them if his arm started twitching and hurting even more than it was already. At first glance by the uncaring or untrained, the bouquet could just be seen as a mix of multiple flowers that followed a specific colored and shape pattern that 'worked'. Tanis could never call himself an expert or even an amateur in the hard of flower arranging in this manner, But he knew enough about plant-life to realize that flowers in and of themselves are all aesthetically pleasing in their own way. The arrangement that these flowers create, while perhaps not rare by the Pichu's admittance, stood not only as a conveyance of a message important to the Pichu, that swooped right above Tanis' head, but also an indication to the artistry and care that was placed into the entire bunch. He knew that because of the way the stems were all laid out, which he could now feel as well as see. Of course, there were plenty of other things that he either overlooked or didn't realize at that particular moment, yet in his opinion, he still considered these flowers as rare, and it still made him wonder just why she took the time to pick the flowers from her garden, create a bouquet of them, and give them to him, of all Pokémon. He didn't really understand it... The Pichu certainly didn't see him, go back home, pick the flowers, craft them into a bouquet as beautiful as what he's now holding in his paws, and then actually take the time to come back and deliver them personally. He equally didn't suspect that she was a courier, as that would mean another Pokémon would have to contact her to do basically everything else. That's not to say both possibilities were wrong, but it was unlikely. The only other conclusion he could really consider, was that she already had the flowers or the bouquet with her before she approached... ... Him. Tanis' eyes seemed to flash somehow in knowledge as he remained completely transfixed on the flowers he was holding, not paying any attention to what his guest, or anyone else for that matter, was doing. Yes... that possibility certainly sounded very likely, definitely more likely than the other two possibilities he conjured up. So, let's assume for simplicity sake, that the Pichu already had the bouquet with her before she even got there, what would any of that mean? It was certainly a wild streak that Tanis just so happened to be there, and he was the one whom she decided to give the bouquet to. She claimed that they were to hopefully make him feel better concerning his injury and because he was looking sad, and he'll admit that they do, in fact, make him feel better. The scent the flowers are generating are such a fine fragrance that it's almost intoxicating. How they look as well are pleasing and he's confident in saying that he couldn't make them any better if he tried a thousand-fold. He would even argue that these flowers are too proper and sophisticated of someone like him. However, he had easily seen at least a couple of dozen Pokémon pass by him before the Pichu arrived, why him, and not them? That was what he didn't understand, and that was what was vexing him. There were only three possible explanations that he could think of at this point as to the reasons behind such kindness, her enthusiasm to his problem, and the gift itself. The first, and what he'd initially consider as the most likely of scenarios, was that she was after a Favor. It is not that uncommon that Pokémon would give him or allow him to lend something in exchange for a service, that is certainly the most common practicality of the reasoning behind it all. There's two reasons he didn't think this was the case: The first was that flowers, while indeed making a nice gift, is very different to what he usually acquires for something like asking him a Favor. The second reason was that she had never actually bought them up, or even so much as hinted at wanting a Favor, that was besides insisting he took the flowers and sit down, which he doesn't count. So he didn't think that was the reason. The second reason was that it could very well be a complete ruse and that she is, in fact, trapping him into a false sense of security before lashing out at him. He had previous dismissed this reason as a possibility, not to mention that she has had plenty of opportunity to jump at the chance. In fact, now that his glance returns to her eyes, he's more convinced than ever it's not the case because... Well... What was stopping her just five seconds ago? He wasn't exactly paying any attention to her, and technically still isn't... The last explanation, that he had considered in his head, but had not fully committed to that logic as a full truth, is that she is, in fact, genuinely concerned about him and his well-being. She has bought up his injury on more than one occasion and has also more than once stated concern about it and it showed on her face. Tanis could never consider himself as an excellent reader of faces, but if there's one thing he knows like the back of his paw, it's malicious intent. Some have tried the concern card before, which has ultimately ended in him either being betrayed, or eventually deserted. The typical sign is in the eyes: They shift and dart around during serious discussion. That's why he thought that she had set a trap beneath him when she kept looking at the ground as opposed to his eyes. That was the only sign that he got that she may have been planning something. Besides looking at the floor for a reason he still wasn't sure why, her entire demeanour was that of a mixed bag, to put it one way. It was mostly of concern, and perhaps a little empathy as well, her voice was one as gentle as any breeze could pick up with little difficulty, although sometimes quiet at times, especially when she trailed off. Other times she spoke with conviction, as if the subject at hand really did interest her. While potentially mixed, none of it seemed malicious in any way. The final conclusion that he reached in all of this, was that her bouquet gift, her nature and in general the concern that she shared with him regarding... Well, everything, was the real deal. She wasn't faking any of it, she wanted to give him the bouquet, she wanted him to sit down to rest, she was concerned about his arm, she was, for some reason, interested in how Treecko's climb surfaces. Tanis' mind was like a racetrack filled with racecars. He was thinking about so many things at once, that it had started to make his head hurt and his vision spin as he tried to make sense of it all. He felt like he had his answer: It explained so much, yet still left holes in his logic. As Tanis tightened the grip on the bouquet, as he stared, not specifically at the Pichu, but in her general direction, he felt himself with a dilemma, a crossroad that he felt he needed to drive through in one direction or another. The fact was, he couldn't recall any moment in time besides the Sewaddle group, his earliest memory that he can actually recall, where someone has actively taken genuine concern about himself and his condition, it's never happened! He can't recall a single instance where it has happened, and he most certainly doesn't recall ever receiving flowers before for any reason, not even for himself. This was a very unique situation that he had no known answer for. He was, essentially, traversing unknown territory just by merely being in this situation. Yet, here he is, stepping boldly into that territory, and deciding what the best course of action is. He's already convinced himself of essentially everything he could potentially think of as to the reason behind everything that has transpired, and especially into what he thinks the Pichu is trying to do. While he doesn't have an absolutely 100% perfect answer, the conclusion he did reach was actually relative simple: She's concerned, and she's trying to make it better... Somehow. In all honesty, her methods are... Questionable, and does make him wonder what she's actually trying to do. The more he thought about why she's specifically doing what she's doing, the more it made his head hurt. He didn't have an answer, and yet he continued to try and find one. His vision gave way for the briefest of moment, which forced him onto his right knee as it buckled under his weight, not because he was feeling weak, but because he lost his balance and felt a little faint as his blank mind took over just a touch. Tanis was quickly able to correct himself and recover matter of factly by then sitting on that same right leg that buckled. His left leg stretched out a bit on the grass as he kept it straight despite there being no reason to do so. His arms and the rest of him remained virtually unchanged except for perhaps a slight change in positioning, specifically on the bouquet. He believes he's worked out at least a little bit of her intentions. The flowers, the concern, the way she was at least trying to be civil, it all seemed to fit together in his head that this was the likely answer that he was looking for: There was no malicious intent whatsoever, as he predicted. Which led to the final big question in all of this... Why had he been treating her like she was all this time despite having concluded earlier that she wasn't? The Pichu had done everything that she has done so far in order to strike up a conversation, or ensure that he was okay, yet what has he done in turn? He's stalled, he's given her baseless answers to things he could easily elaborate on. He has effectively tried to shun her away by not acting like he was interested in conversation, which he admits is what he usually does. Yet she relented and continued to at least try despite that. She is tenacious, he'd grant her that. But she is also correct to be that way. It was the best way for her to show that she is not his enemy, that not every Pokémon he meets want to battle him for the sake of the fight. She has shown him a new side, a new personality, one that he has not witnessed for this long. Yet he has tried to completely derail that personality and try to invoke a more darker side of the Pichu, one with a much more callous attitude. It hasn't happened. Final and concrete proof that everything that she has said and done should never have been scrutinized in the first place, which is exactly what he's done up to this point. He has been an absolute jerk this entire time! The realization of this fact really did make him feel sheepish and ashamed of himself. Here she was, arguably the brightest star in the night sky that Tanis has had the privilege to witness, and he is trying to close his eyes and ignore it. It is really no wonder why he has much more enemies than Pokémon that he could consider as someone he truly knows. In that there's really only a small pawful that he can really recall at this time. He allowed his mind to take a small break for just a few seconds. His eyes, that had remained glossed and mixed with a huge variety of various uncertainties, regained its focus and a single emotion: Determination. gone was the previous anger that had begun welling again, that he felt would be for the final time for this Pichu. He assured himself that this Pokémon was, for the moment at least, worth his attention. Which was such a unique concept, as he hasn't actually lifted a single finger against her in order for her to accomplish it! How she managed to get him to that conclusion without fighting him and earning his respect first, he really did want to know, but he did feel as though she likely didn't know the answer herself. He would have to figure it out in due course. Even so, he allowed himself a very brief respite, enough to have a big, strong sniff of the bouquet that he has been holding all this time. After the large inhale of its scent, he exhaled the contents of the air he breathed in through his mouth as, what he would consider, as the final lingering sigh that removed any doubt about what he was going to do going forward with this Pichu. He wasn't going to fight her, and he was no longer going to be as abrupt and unkind to her, to the best of his ability. It was going to be tough to not react to her as a friendly Pokémon rather than one that he was suspicious of. But the Pichu has tried everything in her book to make him feel better. She surely deserves some recognition for that. hugging the bouquet tightly, he completely his travel to the ground as he shifted his right leg away from under himself, as he sat on the grass, his legs now crossed in front of himself, in a proper seated position. He allowed the bouquet to dip within the gap between his legs and his stomach as they touched the grass beneath, yet he continued to hold the flowers with both of his paws. Despite his face and looks not really showing any proper sign of him turning over a new leaf, so to speak, it was a determined glance that held no hesitation within them once again. The earlier conflict now a distant memory now that he's reached his proper conclusion, he was ready. Yet ironically, he said absolutely nothing pertaining to what Meadow said to him beforehand, instead he opened with something different. " I'm sorry. I-..." He was going to apologize for ever doubting her intentions, as was what was on his mind that he felt he wanted to apologize for. He stopped himself because he felt that if he did say that, he would likely sully whatever thought of him the Pichu had of him, whatever it was. He second guessed his logic behind saying it, and stopped himself before it went too far. Fortunately, he had a way to save it, which also held true, and was also something he did want to apologize for. With that in mind, he continued. " ... I don't hold conversations very well..." She likely already guessed that was the case considering his attempts already. But this time around was a slightly different tale. This time he wanted to at least try and hold a decent conversation, as the electric mouse has clearly put an actual attempt at trying to do so, and with his conclusion set in stone, surely that won't be an issue now... Right? He still held a little concern about what she would say or do next, especially with the lack of interest that he'd been showing to her. He couldn't erase what he's done or said to her already, that ship has already sailed, and he can't stop it. So, there was only one thing left that he could think of doing. He spoke like he had done in his past interactions with her: Directly, and only enough hesitation to allow a breath or a slight pause to make following what he said easier. The core difference this time, is that he's actually putting an attempt into it this time as opposed to merely waving it off. " We started off poorly, which I take blame for. So, Let's start again..." If she was willing to let the shenanigans go as him being... Him... Then he was perfectly willing to try again, and this time do it a little better than he'd been trying earlier. Transferring the bulk of the bouquet he'd been holding to his left shoulder, which was far from an easy transition with the sudden change in the position of his left arm... Wasn't smart now that he thought about it after he'd done so, he tapped the grass in front of himself with his right paw. He kept the palm of his paw down on the ground, while the rest of it raised and lowered into the ground a total of four times. He retracted his arm back to himself afterwards. It was true that the Pichu wanted him to sit and rest, yet why should he be the only one to do so? Granted, she didn't look injured, but he did at least want her to follow her own advice for this occasion, which he did by signalling for her to join him on the grass, hence why he tapped the grass in front of himself. He wasn't going to probe her too far into it if she doesn't, it was a mere invite, nothing more. In either case, it doesn't change what he says next. In hindsight, he did wonder why neither of them bought it up until he did just now, but he did figure it was integral, especially if both parties were thinking of holding a conversation. " I'm Tanis, a pleasure meeting you." A proper greeting and actually giving her a name to call him by. After completing his greeting, he begun his silent treatment once again, not because he was thinking or because he was scrutinizing, but because he was merely waiting for a response for, what he felt, was hopefully a much better comment to actually respond to, and hopefully one that she was a little more comfortable with rather than his previous attempts at.... Whatever it was he thought he was doing. As he awaited the Pichu's response, he gently stroked the gifted bouquet with his right paw idly, almost as if they were a pet to him. He doesn't recognise that he's doing it, he's simply showing that he does actually have at least a little patience, even if what he does in the process could be considered strange. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- I quite enjoyed typing this. Call it as uncharacteristic as you wish, but I do feel this was the correct course of action concerning everything he's done and what Meadow has done. Now it's time for bed. Got an early start tomorrow.

Despite her intentions were only for her to be helpful, it seemed as though her attempts at encouraging him to sit down only made the Treecko angry. The little Pichu couldn’t tell why, though. After all, she just wanted him to sit down so he wouldn’t strain his injury. As much as she believed she was helping, Meadow couldn’t understand why the Treecko was suddenly so angry. Was there something he was trying to tell her that she kept interrupting? Well, she had been giving him a chance to speak right from the start, and he simply chose not to. It actually had been making her quite uncomfortable the entire time, and honestly she didn’t know what to do about it. It had been better when he stopped being angry, but now he was just peeved all over again, putting her progress even farther back than when she started. Meadow frowned, allowing her ears to lower a bit, but she didn’t show any signs of giving up. Why? Well, she didn’t feel she had a good enough reason to. She didn’t know why he was so angry, and she could speculate until she was blue in the face. But he had yet to verbally dispute her attempts, so for all she knew, he could just have had a headache or something. Just as the Pichu considered retracting her arm to leave, the Treecko finally took the bouquet of flowers from her arms. Though the angry expression never left his face, the fact that he took it without tearing it apart was a step in the right direction. Perhaps she was making better progress than she initially thought. The Treecko didn’t sit down right away, though, as she had hoped he would. But all of a sudden, it seemed like he was about to fall over! Meadow, whom had been trying her best not to overstep her boundaries, took a couple steps forward before voicing her concern. “Are you okay?” she asked before realizing that the Grass-Type had already recovered. The yellow mouse’s cheeks flushed a bit in embarrassment. It seemed as though he wasn’t losing his balance, and was instead just trying to sit down like she had originally asked. Well, that was what she got for making assumptions. Still, it really looked like he was going to fall over. “I’m sorry, I thought…” Meadow let her verbal thought drift off as it seemed like he was hardly interested in what she had to say. Meadow took a couple of steps away from the Treecko, assuming her original position. The Pichu folded her paws behind her back as she looked back to her feet again, this time clearly showing how shy she was by twisting her left foot on the ground with her toes, and then tapping it on said ground shyly. Though, that seemed to make the Treecko a tad uncomfortable before, so she tried to keep her attention on the Treecko. She noticed that his expression, though remaining angered for quite a while, gave her the impression that the Treecko, once again, was deep in thought. After a while of just standing their in a rather awkward silence, the worst one yet, Meadow remained patient and silent. The Pichu allowed the Treecko to gather his thoughts before he finally changed his expression from anger. Admittedly, it didn’t seem like he changed it much, but he didn’t seem like a Pokemon who smiled much, so she’d take any expression that showed less anger as a good thing. The Pichu gave a bit of an uncertain smile, not completely sure if he was less angry or not. Finally, the Treecko spoke, and it wasn’t something she was expecting at all. The first thing that came out of his mouth was an apology. Meadow’s facial features softened a bit as he tried to gather his thoughts. Honestly, she was so stunned by the apology that she didn’t react right away. However, shaking her shock, the Electric Type gave a gentle smile. “Oh, you don’t-” However, before she was able to completely object, he explained what it was he was apologizing for. Ah. She knew how that was. “Oh, no,” Meadow waved her hand dismissively and as casually as her nature would allow. “I know how you feel. Believe it or not, I have a reputation of being rather… shy.” She stated that as if she didn’t realize how shy she was. Of course, she new she was a little shy, but she had no idea just how bad her shyness was. The Treecko spoke again, saying that he he wanted to start over because he felt bad for how this conversation started. He invited the Pichu to sit down, causing Meadow’s smile to grow as she only waited for his paw to move before taking her spot. “Oh you don’t have to blame yourself,” Meadow insisted. “I haven’t been much help, either. I’d be more than happy to start over, though.” His treatment of the flowers she gave him didn’t go unnoticed. Though he had initially acted rather uncertain of the gift, the Treecko was now treating it as the most precious thing he’d ever received. It brought a smile to her face. It hadn’t occurred to her until the Grass-Type introduced himself that she had never introduced herself. What in Invictus was she thinking? That was no way to make a friend, was it? “Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry!” the Pichu apologized. “I can’t believe I…” Meadow paused before chuckling a bit. She was getting a bit ahead of herself, wasn’t she? “Many apologize. It’s so nice to meet you, Tanis. My name is Meadow. I’m the assistant at Ivysaurs flower shop.” It was only after she said it that made her realize what that sounded like. “O-oh! But that’s not why I gave you the flowers. They’re mine, and they don’t have anything to do with the flower shop.” Of course, that was a lie, but he didn’t need to know that. --- Sorry for the slow response. I’ve been rather tired lately. But, yeah, I’m very excited for what’s to come now!

Tanis had to admit that this was one unique Pokémon, arguably among the more unique that he has ever seen. Not only was she not interested in any sort of fight, which is a strange phenomenon in every sense of the word anyway, but she took every cue she got in an attempt to getting ever closer to actually conversing. Some could consider her being a nuisance, and they'd likely be correct, what made this different as far as he was concerned, was that they were actively talking, while not trying to murder each other. He loves a good scrap as much as the next Pokémon, but trying to have a serious and proper conversation is a bit too much for some, including himself. Never did stop him from trying of course, but he never could get too far: Typically lasting a few attacks before one or the other stopping. Friendly clashing is a different matter, although he hasn't had too many opportunities to do so since he moved to Invictus. That's what happens when you're thrown into an entirely new land while knowing nobody. He doesn't blame anyone for it from around here though, especially in the town itself. Most Pokémon here merely just want to get on with their daily life: Working, playing, resting. Few very rarely want to deal with battling unless they absolutely have to. It just so happens that Tanis is among the few with whom battling is a way of his life.
Yet this Pichu had held no such interest. Instead she seemed to use her actions and mostly her words to 'battle' as opposed to actually throwing attacks at him. Yes, he did get irritated at this very fact, which was among the reasons why he didn't immediately sit down. It was just a rather unique situation, alongside a series of events that she performed that led to the situation that they both found themselves in now. For all intents and purpose, she had accomplished what few Pokémon had managed to do in recent history: Tame the Treecko. It's merely a probability of pressing the correct sequence of buttons within him to reach that point, which seems tougher in theory because an equal number of buttons immediately pushes him to fighting regardless of past input. He wouldn't admit any of that openly of course, he stares down all of his adversaries, regardless of who they are, and whether he stood any chance against them at all! Yet as he watched the Pichu, it would soon turn into a rather extravagant set of emotions, such as the one he had from the first response she gave from his apology. Reputation for being shy?
... Shy? Is she serious?!?
Tanis never once considered the factor that she was shy, having ignored all but one of her self-proclaimed shy moments as habits or her usual tongue, similar to his own. The moment he figured could contribute as shyness, was when she backed out from the initial statement of insisting him to taking the flowers. Even so, he didn't think that was enough for him to think that it was either a common occurrence or a quirk of hers. So her admittance that she was shy felt a little like it came from nowhere... Which was something else he felt she liked doing considering this was the second time now. If she had this so-called reputation of being incredibly shy, then what the heck was she even doing talking to him in the first place? Would a Pokémon who was shy even willingly talk to someone she didn't know without him approaching her first? He3 could speculate all day and come up with all sorts of answers as to why she winded up speaking with him, but the simple fact was that Tanis didn't believe her at this time. Maybe she was, but she certainly hasn't shown any signs that he recognised as being shy, and plenty of signs of what he considered to be concern, and perhaps a little excitement. Especially so after having seen her original look on him turn a touch more softer. Perhaps an apology was a bit too far, but what he said was truthful and he meant every word. The only core difference, was that his reason was very much different from hers, supposedly. She claims she's shy, yet he stakes his claim that he's just not a conversationalist, easily turning to violence rather than keeping up the talking. Yet ironically, here are two Pokémon who struggle to do so, doing just that! What a world! Nonetheless, Tanis couldn't help stifle a light chuckle at her claim, but otherwise he let the matter slide. He said his apology, and the Pichu acknowledged it, admittedly in not exactly the manner he was expecting, but she did so nonetheless. There was no further reason to bring it up, so he didn't.
The more important matter in his eyes was hopefully restarting the conversation back to its beginning, in hopefully getting things off to a better and more appealing start than it didn't the first time around, mostly because of himself, he'd decided. He had wanted everything to be taken by its stride and at the same time, natural feeling. There was not getting to be anything forced or any random second guessing about her intentions. He'd done that plenty of times already, and it was clear to see where that got him. Besides, the indication that at least a tiny bit of trust was clear, was offering Pichu to sit as well. It's common courtesy of course, but unless he was directly planning on something dastardly evil, it was a friendly gesture and nothing more? Was he planning on something? No. He had no reason now of doing anything that could even be construed as setting a trap or some other thing that would eventually lead the Pichu into danger. He wouldn't blame her if she didn't take the invite to sit with him, he's offered more and there were still those who didn't accept it, so he didn't hold too high hopes, but perhaps on the off-chance that she would take him up on the offer, they'd be back with being eye-to-eye again, and at least her worry about his injury would be quelled at least for now. That said, would she actually take him up on-
... Oh, wait, never mind.
If he didn't know any better, Tanis could've sworn that she had leapt at the chance to take a seat with him. In fact, he could see it on her face that she was going to before he even retracted his arm, and a couple of seconds later, there she was, just like that! He wasn't sure if she had planned on it anyway, considering she did so without so much as any hesitation whatsoever, but the smile she flashed and her eyes' softness declared the intent the moment she seemed to realize what he requested of her. Admittedly, he never actually said anything about joining him on the grass, even though it was precisely the intent that he had meant with his motion. Her sudden approval of his request, and her immediate action did shock Tanis for a brief moment in sudden surprise that she accepted the invite without even giving it a second thought. This just gave him one more reason not to consider the Pichu as being a reputable shy Pokémon. Her words that followed definitely sounded like they were trying to make him feel better about himself, proclaiming it wasn't entirely his fault. He wouldn't completely deny the Pichu's claim that she was at fault as well, but it did help him feel that it wasn't entirely his own doing, even though deep down he still felt it was. Like the apology, he didn't stick too long to it, or responded to it, but he did give a small smile of his own at her acceptance of starting over. Excellent! That was one major hurdle leapt over with no difficulties whatsoever. Perhaps there's hope for him yet. Now that he had her approval to start over, he was going to try and make it work this time, do it right, and hopefully not be as much of a class-a ignoring jerk the entire time, that would be a bonus.
Tanis has introduced himself primarily for two reasons. Firstly, he was the one that was restarting the conversation, and if anything, that's typically the usual first line Pokémon went for. The second was that he was trying to be an overall nicer guy to this Pichu, just as she had been doing this entire time as well, what better way to get started than actually knowing each other's names. For some unknown reason however, she had begun almost spluttering out an apology, before chuckling a little bit. Like everything else, Tanis didn't respond to it, but he did quiz himself over why she so suddenly started speaking out an apology just merely by him giving out his name and a greeting. The slight frown that he shot her way was less emotional, and more 'What just happened?'. Nonetheless, he allowed her to continue, and at long last, there was a name behind the words and the Pichu. He could definitely understand where the naming scheme for her came from upon immediately hearing it. Grass, as far as the eye can see, flowers separating the greenery to grant it more vibrant colors. Peaceful, serene, expansive. Yes, that did seem to fit his interpretation of her so far. He did consider asking how she winded up with the name, but he didn't want to ask something if he couldn't answer the question himself. He learned a while ago that he didn't know when he got the name Tanis, or if Tanis is even his name in the first place. It was what everyone at Maldrear called him, so that's what he went with. The rest of Meadow's introduction shared with him her profession. Ah, of course, she is clearly a resident in Invictus, she would need to make a living for herself.
"Meadow.... Ivysaur's Flower Shop...." Tanis repeated after Meadow did. He didn't have any idea where this shop was or that she worked there, but he considered both to be equally important names that he felt he had to ensure he committed them to memory. He repeated them to ensure he had them down and he wasn't going to forget either of them. The name he was confident he wouldn't forget, the shop was another potential matter. Hopefully he'll have the opportunity to repeat it a few times to make sure it sticks. It only took him a couple of seconds after saying both names for him to speak again, confirming what he speculated at that point. "So, you're a Florist? That, actually explains a few things..." Tanis inquired, more to confirm his suspicions than any other underlying reason. He'd be the first to admit that a flower shop is among the last places he would go to, not because he doesn't like flowers or dislikes anything about them, but more to the fact that he doesn't typically have too much use for such a commodity, especially with what he typically winds up doing half the time anyway. That being said, he has nothing against the art or shops that sell such beauty as their wares, after all, they make excellent gifts, as demonstrated. All of this also implied that he had never received flowers in his life, especially a bouquet of them. Meadow had done a crafty job of helping him realize that, while flowers may not be as practical as they first seem, there is still something deceptively strong about their presence that he cannot deny. Holding this bunch feels somehow natural, a little like they were specifically designed and crafted for him, and him alone. He didn't know that Meadow had been watching him handle the flowers, and generally that he didn't destroy them or do otherwise besides handle them. The thought of doing so had never crossed his mind, and doubly so now that he had them. No, this bouquet was not made just to be merely crushed and trampled over on. That would be quite unfair on the one who created it.
His assumptions that Meadow is a Florist had led him to the conclusion that she was the one who did it. Any old Pokémon can take a bunch of flowers and bunch them up together to create... Something tangible. Tanis shifted the flowers in his grasp again to transfer to pressing them against his body, settled slightly by his right arm to prevent them from going anywhere as he begun lightly rubbing his forearm again in precisely the same spot he'd done at least half-a-dozen times now, slight searing pain etched on his face to merely confirm that it was still lingering. He glanced at the gifted flowers to confirm what he already knew after he moved them to against his body: This was not amateur work! He was certain even he could tell if it was a literal 20-second job without too much of a thought process involved in them, or so he figured anyway. These were far from that. The arrangement is much too good and they hold together nicely and don't tangle with each other. If this was the level of an assistant, he could only imagine what he'd witness at the next level up... Whatever it is beyond 'Florist'. He was a touch disappointed to hear that the flowers weren't from the shop, which he initially thought they were, but that millisecond of disappointment easily evaporated as he looked at the flowers again. They're very nicely kept for a Pokémon who is juggling work, a garden and giving out flowers to random strangers in town at the same time. They all coincide with one another quite nicely though, so perhaps it's not quite a hindrance as he first anticipated. Even so, that is mightly spectacular, and he made sure she knew it. "It must be an impressive garden, Meadow, I wonder if anyone calls it home..." He was referring to other Pokémon who prefer the lush greenery of... Well... Meadows, as opposed to the bustling streets of a town. If more of these flowers are indeed present in her garden, he wouldn't at all be surprised if a couple of small Pokémon nested there. Sewaddle was what came to his mind, but any Pokémon who loves a well-kept garden could potentially use it as such. Tanis himself wouldn't mind it as such, but he'd get bored rather quickly and start wandering around. Meadow's deception on her lie worked, sort of. Tanis never interjected or called her out on it, nor did he figure that she was lying about it in the first place. Though he did wonder why she felt the need to bring mention to it when he wasn't thinking they came from there anyway... Oh well, she'd done something similar a couple of times already, he wouldn't concern himself too much about it. Tanis let the statement go and didn't consider bringing it up.
The pain on his left arm having eased a tad, he returned his right arm back to the flowers again. Garden grown or not, they felt, smelt and looked just like any other flower that Tanis has seen or heard of. Even if a couple of them looks completely foreign to him. Nevertheless, it hadn't stopped him from constantly smelling the scent they were continuing to give out. It was the inspiration for what he wanted to ask Meadow next. It seemed only correct to continue the conversation while he had the chance. "So, Meadow..." Tanis started, ensuring her attention was with him before continuing. "... What more can you tell me about your garden? It's certainly kept well." And that was no word of a lie, as he was seemingly holding the proof of it in his paws. If there are much more flowers than these ones, then he can only wonder if they do some sort of 'best garden award'. He meant nothing more than curiosity with his query, there was no sarcasm in his voice, nor was there any hint of any indication that he didn't believe Meadow's lie in both his voice and how he was looking at her. Nothing but interest and an otherwise calm appearance, a hint of eagerness sprinkled in for good measure. Just what sort of secrets does she employ? Well, he doubted she'd actually tell him, but anything to get a better picture of the garden itself would help him understand the grandeur of it.

The reaction that Tanis had at her claim was odd. In Meadow’s perspective, she thought her shyness was blatantly obvious. On the contrary, the look on his face gave her two impressions: either he wasn’t impressed by her humor, or he wasn’t expecting her to make that claim. Did he not think she was shy? Was she really faking it so well, that he couldn’t tell?
Well, either way, he never brought it up, so she wouldn’t either. That was probably a weed she was meant to leave alone. At the very least, he didn’t seem angry anymore. She was worries that that would be the result of his expression at that moment, but nope. Tanis was perfectly fine, or fine enough, rather. Tanis’s confusion didn’t concern her nearly as much as his anger did.
Meadow blushed a bit as she tumbled over her interaction. My was that embarrassing! She should have known better than to voice her mistake. Whatever the case, he understood what she said, and even caught onto the bit about her being a florist. Whoops. Perhaps she said too much. Whatever. Once again, it didn’t seem to bother Tanis. If anything, the Treecko was trying to commit the information to memory, which was something Meadow could appreciate. Meadow herself was whispering his name a couple times under her breath so that she would remember his name, too. It wasn’t everyday that you met a Pokemon named Tanis, or even Meadow for that matter. She supposed they both had rather unique names. Good! That’s something they had in common!
Still, she’d keep that tidbit to herself for another day.
“Yes,” Meadow chimed at his observation. “I’ve been a florist for most of my life. They’re just so beautiful, and a life of their own. They don’t judge you for any discrepancies, and…” The Pichu quickly caught herself before she went on a total tangen, giggling nervously as she did so. How embarrassing! Honestly, she couldn’t help herself sometimes. Once the topic of flowers were brought up, she just couldn’t control her tongue. Clearing her throat, the Pichu took control of her urge to talk about flowers. “I’m sorry, it’s just… I really like flowers.” The Pichu bit her bottom lip as she grinned, glancing away from the Treecko, unable to contain her glee at the mere mention of the topic.
His next question was quite interesting. Pokemon living in her garden? Well, she was sure that there were Pokemon who lived there, but she wasn’t too certain. Occasionally, she had seen some bug Pokemon, Scatterbug especially, but she’d actually seen more Grass Type Pokemon. The Pokemon who tended to be particularly intrigued by her garden were “Oddish,” Meadow answered. “And Hoppip, too. I wouldn’t be surprised if they slept there more than I’ve noticed. I’ve seen them do it before. I don’t mind, really, but whenever they see that I notice them, they tend to scurry away. Perhaps they’re just trying to be polite?” An idea suddenly formed in her mind, but she decided to leave it off for another time. Perhaps when the two had gotten to know each other better.
Besides, now was time to keep him company and comfortable. Of course, that decision was completely thrown out the window when he made a teeny tiny mistake: he asked her to talk about her garden more.
Hoo boy. He’d better get comfortable, because they were gonna be there for a while.
“Oh!” Meadow practically hopped, much more eager than she had been the entire time. “You really think so?! I’m glad you like it. I put so much love and dedication to my garden, and it’s got so many flowers of ever kind. There are roses, and daffodils, and hydrangeas. Oh, and tulips! Those are my favorites. Well, I don’t really have a “favorite flower, per say, tulips are just my favorite today. I have so many tips on how to take care of various different plants, and I know the anatomy like the back of my…paw.” Meadow paused for a moment and blushed. “Though, I don’t want to brag or anything. I have various tricks on how to keep all of the flowers so bright, and beautiful. I’m so humbled by the fact that I’m one of the Pokemon who are asked for tips on how to take care of plants. Maybe I could show you my garden some time so that you can have an idea on what it’s like!”
Meadow blinked as she realized what she said. “I-I mean, you already have an idea, sort of. I just mean… there are so many other flowers in my garden! One bouquet is hardly doing it justice!” Meadow giggled nervously. Even though she was trying to do something nice, now there was the implications that she had brought upon herself, and Ivysaur. Even though it wasn’t the point of the lie, she’s taking credit for the hard work that Ivysaur did. But she didn’t want him to give the flowers back in account that she could get in trouble.
Uhoh, she’d been silent for a little too long. Better pick up the conversation again. “Anywho…” Hoo boy. If Tanis didn’t stop her soon, they could have been here for hours! Not the Meadow minded too much, but if she let her mouth go off, she could have let the lie go loose, and then there would be major problems.

The commonality between Meadow and Tanis delved a little deeper to more than just how uncommon their respective names were, though whether she took that into consideration was another matter entirely. It is true that Meadow and Tanis are not typical names given to the Pokémon that own them. Admittedly, Tanis having Meadow's name would make a speck more sense, only by the factor of his typing. Not that it changes much at all. Nonetheless, other similarities they both seemed to share included, but not limited to their method of memorizing the other's name. While Tanis was more verbal about it than she was, she also verbally whispered his name in an attempt to recollect that piece of information, basing a similarity to how they input items into memory. Another situation they had in common were how they were interacting. Though again for different reasons, both Pokémon have been trying to get the other to communicate with the other, in spite of whatever inside them was telling them otherwise. Tanis has been trying to change his overall attitude on that regard, with mixed results. He's saying more, but he couldn't help but feel that he's still not quite giving her the justice she deserved.
The issue, like most Pokémon likely in his position, was the subject of discussion. So far the discussion has been focused on, for the most part, Meadow. From Tanis' point of view, he has set opinions on her, but not too much in the way of who she is as a Pokémon. He could guess and give opinions on that too, but that would be stereotyping her to a specific subset of personalities that he's born witness to. At the same time of all of this, he couldn't help but feel that he was potentially being judged. He had kept the conversation largely about herself for two reasons: She was the one who gave a little more detail on herself from her introduction of her name, and it felt to him like it was the natural flow to take the conversation. The millisecond he bought up the fact that she may have been a Florist, it seemed like a spark ignited in her eyes. Anything that she may have been feeling beforehand went out the window entirely and was replaced with a sense of glee, contentment, happiness. She seemed more than excited to start going on about herself in that regard. But, maybe even thankfully, she restrained herself to merely containing the response to confirming his suspicions. He did figure it was the case, if the flowers came from her garden, then obviously the only one who could've bunched them up into a bouquet, was her. It only made sense... Though it was plausible she may have paid for someone else to do it, but he didn't buy that theory at all. But there was one thing she stated in her claim that gave Tanis pause, and to give Meadow a rather curious look. His eyes squinting a touch as he glanced in her direction with his right paw on his chin. Flowers don't judge Pokémon for discrepancies...
That meant a lot more from that solitary sentence than she likely realizes.
Tanis is willing to admit that he is not a flowers guy. In fact, he wouldn't consider giving any flower he passes a second glance the majority of the time, not putting into any real consideration about how they got there, how they're doing, or their rarity. That said, tending to a garden is a lot more different than growing plants out in the open and the wild. What she said is technically true: Flowers can't say anything if you make a mistake or don't care for them more than you really should. At the same time however, flowers that are poorly taken care of don't last as long, and most certainly don't shine or grow as strongly as those that are well maintained. Even a Pokémon like Tanis could understand something like that. As he continued thinking along those lines, his gaze shifted to the bouquet in his grasp for a few seconds, allowing the bright colorization and natural beauty of them to once again reverberate his mind and body before placing his focus back on Meadow herself. Whatever she may say about it, these flowers at the very least look quite healthy and certainly a far cry from being mistreated in every meaning of the word. But the key point in what she said was not that she's mistreating the flowers, which he wouldn't agree with even if she admitted it, but that she said they don't judge. Yes, they don't... But other Pokémon certainly do. Those words were a definite hint that she's been judged, perhaps unfairly. Suddenly, the look he gave to her changed to a slightly more apologetic one. That is the precise definition of what he had been doing the entire time they'd met! Not realizing he was doing so, Tanis held the bouquet closer to himself, covering up a part of the right side of his face as he dug it into the bunch. He knew he's been doing it, and yes, it is wrong... Yet it's just another habit of his that he has an extremely hard time correcting until he has a different opinion on that Pokémon. It's as the saying went: Keep your friends close and your enemies closer'. It simply turns out that he'd treat everyone as an enemy until they show him otherwise... How easy it is for him to fall into that trap. Fortunately, he has changed his opinion of Meadow, so the effect of judging her harshly has diminished, more-so than he normally would.
He continued to say nothing about the statement, deciding against bringing it up as he felt somewhat guilty about the true meaning he deciphered from her words. Besides, she was smiling and enjoying talking about that fact, so he didn't feel the need to ruin it by making it more sombre by doing that. Instead, his focused turned to the next point she bought up, this was the junction that he actually had some thoughts on the matter. Turned out he figured correctly about Pokémon living in her garden. Hoppip and Oddish primarily, two Pokémon that he has had the misfortune of being around in the past. Both Pokémon have powder based moves that he's been on the front of in more than one occasion, yet both acted surprisingly differently from each other by comparison. The Oddish turned violent and tried to make a stand after Tanis stepped on it without realizing it. It ended favourably for him at the cost of his lungs being coated in multiple mixes of powders. The Hoppip broke up an otherwise tense situation between himself and a Skarmory when it flew between the pair running from a Grimer that was chasing it. That curiously ended in something rather unexpected happening, which began a massive wildfire of various things happening, ultimately leading to the burning and injury of the arm that's still bandaged up today. As if the memory conjured a sudden pain response in his mind, Tanis winced and grabbed the forearm again, grasping it tightly with the flowers encased against his body propped up against his right shoulder. It was, however, the last point that once again grabbed his attention in that explanation. Leaving to be polite? Well... That's a possibility, but from his experience, he didn't quite think so. Anything is possible of course, so maybe. It took a few seconds for the initial pain to subside to allow another type of emotion besides pain, that emotion being a questioning one, but not to her. He didn't completely agree with her assessment of them being polite and leaving, but the next topic at hand came along before he could inquire about it more.
It was true that he had asked Meadow a little more about her garden, which he kind of bought on himself and if he realized what sort of question he just asked, he likely would've retracted it. That said, he felt as if it was a topic that she'd be a touch more willing to discuss rather than anything else he'd ask at that particular point. Plus it was really the only thing he really knew about her, so he couldn't honestly ask anything else from an entirely different matter that she may or may not respond to... Or judge him for it. Though he didn't think she'd turn out to be as excited and bubbly about it than that, not that it's a bad thing persay. But what made her response interesting was not so much the subject of discussion, more than the contents of what she was saying as her response. Her mention of the word 'Daffodils' bought his gaze to the bouquet for a split second before returning to her again, recognizing the word and one of the types of flowers mixed in with the four making up the bouquet. Meadow had already informed him that she really liked flowers... Only proven when the entirety of his question was answered by her talking about flowers and less-so about the garden itself, besides the fact it held a lot of flowers growing within it. She was definitely a Pokémon who had a lot of time to learn and look after flowers to a far more greater degree than even Tanis thought was possible. Yet what made this so interesting is that she has no indication of being a Grass type, a type he would've considered to be someone who would know that sort of stuff like the back of their paw. The entire explanation felt rather long-winded and by the end of it, he felt as thought he was struggling to digest it all. He could feel his head throbbing, but he felt as though he got the majority of it down at least. Nonetheless, by the end of it all, he did feel as though she side-stepped it and changed the subject, that didn't sit well with him as much as everything else she said so far. She did offer to show him the garden, which he took as a sign that she maybe couldn't explain it verbally for some reason.
Meadow once again attempted to rectify the situation by taking back her last claim of visiting her garden by once again bringing up her flowers. He did agree with that assessment, one bouquet is hardly enough to showcase just what other varieties of flowers were among the beds located there. But once again, that was not the question that he asked. He wanted to know more about the garden beyond the flowers, he already knew there were flowers there, and Meadow did say she was proud of it, yet she wasn't willing to divulge any more about it. Is she playing him for a fool after he'd been trying to strike a conversation? He could feel his heart telling him to go after her for this transgression, his very instinct and usual demeanour yelling at him to lash out, precisely as he always does for reasons less than this very point at this very moment. His body similarly reacted, and for a few seconds, the awkward silence that followed her words was filled with more than enough tension for even the onlooker to figure something was wrong. His body, running purely on what it knew, and what it could do, seemed to bend the very fabric of what was going on around him as, as if some sort of force willed it, it seemed like the sunlight that had once surrounded the park's field were accumulating ever so slightly towards Tanis' position, basking him in a brighter light than anyone else within a mile-long radius. Speckles of sunlight begun pouring into his body as, for those few seconds of silence, his unwaivering gaze remained transfixed on Meadow. His body suggested one clear fact, but his eyes and mind were trying to suggest something different. While he did share an emotion that definitely seemed like boiling anger, it was a contested emotion. For those few seconds where he remained in his own bubble considering how to react, his body acted for him by beginning its charge for a Solarbeam. Drawing in the light hungrily in preparation for its eventual use. Tanis remained unaware of the fact, conflicting on what he should do in response to all that was said, and what wasn't said. Arguably, this was the testing moment for him, the border between what his future correspondence would be with Meadow, or at least one of them. His final decision, after deliberation, made him feel so uncharacteristic, it was almost unnatural, yet he felt vindicated in his decision that he opted to go with it.
He made a decision to himself that he was going to give Meadow a chance, and coincidentally, give himself a chance to prove he can do it. He once again felt the will to follow this track in partial thanks to the flowers that he was holding. Yes, it was true that Meadow had diverted the topic to something he didn't quite inquire about. But this shouldn't have come as a big surprise to him, as his deliberation came to fruition. She spoke highly about the flowers in the garden because she seems to naturally care about them, which she has herself admitted already. Looking at it from a different angle, what would he do if she asked him about something he enjoyed? She was merely doing what he felt all Pokémon would do in that situation. That was his ultimate reasoning in his mind that stopped him from considering a malicious act any more than it had to. With his mind reaching a resolution, the rest of his body followed. The gathering of sunlight slowed to a crawl as the light that seemed to surround him dimmened slightly to normalcy, if it could be considered to have changed at all. He hadn't gathered nearly enough to be able to form anything material to use for anything that could be considered an attack, yet what he had gathered had to go somewhere. What didn't wind up being converted into energy for his body's use, wound up being excreted via two methods. Commonly, his breath exhales grew hotter and resembled smoke, or perchance visible steam, which is a gaseous form of light given form, a part-way transition between light and a plasma mass. The second outside vector, were the flowers. Though to a much lesser degree, and not as obvious, the bouquet could certainly utilize a bit of that light for its own use. Having been taken from the ground, the effect is much less prominent. Plus it's not like Tanis is doing anything with them besides holding them.
"Sorry... I..." Tanis apologized, not hiding the fact that he'd let his emotions get the better of him for just a moment. Unlike Meadow's 'lie', for what it's worth, he felt as though she had at least earned him being honest about the reason behind what just happened. Or at least why it happened. "... I let myself go for a moment there. It won't happen again." Meadow had seen him do vaguely similar things before, but that was the first time he at least was gearing up for something that time. He wanted to apologize for it before he drove a wider rift between the pair of them. Despite his earlier looks he had given her, this one was genuine and remorseful. He had let himself go and jump to a huge conclusion... again! He told himself he'd try not to do that, and yet he was doing it again. He had to stop doing that. Old habits die hard, and despite his attempts so far, it's still there. He would need to try harder to keep his cool and give her a proper chance. Maybe she was in the wrong, but it was within reason, or so he felt. That's not enough to instigate changing his mind so suddenly. Tanis granted himself a moment's reprieve with a large inhale, and exhale of breath, which simply resulted in more of the white gas coming out of his mouth. He didn't share any concern with it happening, or even realizing that it's occurring. More importantly however, he had yet to actually say anything about everything Meadow had said. There wasn't a lot he could really say about her expertise on flowers, other than acknowledge them.
As he admitted however, he was fine with it. "You have every right to brag... I know I couldn't compete with your knowledge." She definitely seemed very proud of the fact that she had a large variety of facts about flowers and tending to them appropriately. Perhaps there is some utility behind knowing some of these facts. And she's among the few Pokémon that share these tips and tricks? He's not all that surprised given her love for the talent, it's no wonder it's been the center of her discussion. Heh. Yet in spite of that, she seemed to hint a couple of times about another area of expertise that she could be interested in. He didn't think too much on it when she first bought it up, but now that they're here, and he thinks she bought it up again, perhaps now was a good time to ask about it? It would explain a few more things, though bring up even more questions as a result. "I wonder... Are you wanting to expand your expertise to Grass types? You do seem to draw their attention." Tanis gave a sly smirk to the electric type at the finality of his query. She admitted her garden draws in Oddish and Hoppip's, and she has his own attention as well, so the thought is not completely drawn from out of nowhere. His query was also based on the unforgotten query she posed about the Treecko's ability to climb surfaces. Though he has yet to demonstrate it, as he inquired of her at that point, he did wonder why she posed that question from nowhere. If she wanted to expand her field to caring for Grass type Pokémon as well, asking that question wasn't as sudden as it first seemed.
There was one other area that he wanted to address, in part because he was a little concerned about it, but also because it was an area of discussion that he felt he could contribute something to, at least a little. It was spurred on by the admittance of Hoppip and Oddish being in her garden, and her not minding them being there. The reaction they give was... Strange, for that reason, hence the other question he posed to Meadow. "I'm curious, have you told the Pokémon that visit your garden that they can stay there?" He suspected he already knew the answer to it without her saying anything, but he felt like he should ask it anyway. It wasn't until after he did however, that he realized that he kind of asked it in a peculiar manner that was open to all sorts of interpretations. For the first time throughout the time he's been seated, Tanis shifted his leg positioning, position slightly more towards Meadow as he tried to twist his body in accordance, but not succeeding very well. "... Let me try to explain..." An explanation? From Tanis? This should be amusing! Saying his piece on that junction, Tanis shuffled along the ground so he was sat parallel with Meadow, facing in the same direction as she was at that moment. He first tried shuffling using his left arm for support as he lifted his back off the ground. That was until the pain swiftly reminded him why putting weight on his arm wasn't such a good idea. Hence he transferred to his right side, and did it that way. Once he finally took his position, he swapped the side that held the bouquet to his left, as Meadow was now to his right, and it was his right paw that he was using to 'draw' on the grass. He wasn't leaving any sort of imprint, so it was up to Meadow's imagination to picture what he's depicting. It started with a simple square at first, followed by him pointing to a spot inside and to the right of the square that he 'drew'.
"... You enter someone's garden. Beautiful, serene and as colourful as you can imagine." It likely wasn't too big of a stretch to suspect she might be thinking about her own garden, but what the garden looked like wasn't important for the explanation, so he let her fill in the void for its looks. "You stumbled across it after a long day, and it's just right for a nap. Now..." At that point, he lifted his pointing paw from where 'Meadow' was standing, and then begun pointing to the left-most squared segment within his imaginary square. He then moves his paw slowly towards the center, to the right. "... The owner of the garden is here, and approaching you, eyeing you the whole time." He stops moving his pointed paw only once he's able to point with two of his fingers, one where he stopped the 'owner', and the other where he had depicted 'Meadow's location. "Taking into account you weren't invited, what would you do?" That was when the explanation behind his query ended. With the punchline now delivered and the conclusion of the imagination drawn to a close, Tanis shifted his position again. Placing the bouquet on his lap within his crossed legs, he fell backwards a touch until the elbow on his right arm touched the grass. His right side facing the floor and his eyes remaining on Meadow, he bought one final point to the whole thing. "Everyone reacts differently, obviously. Are those Pokémon being polite? Maybe... But I think they're also scared." Although Tanis himself wouldn't get scared on a situation like that, he knew other Pokémon would do, especially Hoppip if the one he saw a few days ago was any indication. Also not forgetting that entering an owned garden is along the grounds of trespassing, which could be considered an illegal act. Of course, if they're invited, then that's no longer an issue. Yet if they don't have that permission, as Tanis suspects they don't, then prosecution is a real thing. One last itinerary ended his own long-winded explanation. "... That's what I think they're doing anyway, if you ask me. Grass types can be... Fickle... Unlike flowers." He knows she didn't, but he felt he knew a little bit about those two kinds of Pokémon enough to come to that conclusion. Plus he's effectively the very definition of unpredictability as they come! So he felt that was enough reason to state that opinion.
That was the end of what he was willing to say on the matter as it presented itself. In all honesty, he was more interested to know if she did hold an interest in learning more about Grass types and tending to them much the same way she does flowers. Admittedly Grass types do come in all sorts of varieties as not all of them are actual plants. They all share some similarities, but a Pokemon like Oddish is much closer to plants than a Treecko is. This doesn't mean Tanis himself is completely different, he is a grass type through and through, and as such there are some unique characteristics that sets him up in similar aspects to a plant: Photosynthesis being the key one, as he demonstrated just moments earlier, but it is not the only thing. Regardless, he continued to watch Meadow to see what she had to say from what's been his most talkative sequence so far. Any previous anger he had exhibited earlier had fortunately diminished once again for a much more lighter and otherwise inquisitive glance. That and his current position, while in close proximity, was definitely not one that he was able to do anything, besides acquiring a dead right arm from leaning on it for too long. His bandaged left paw meanwhile took the opportunity to fiddle a touch with one of the flowers making up the bouquet, One of the Alstroemaria to be more accurate. Playfully he fiddled with one of the petals on it, rubbing it for a bit before giving it a light flick from the bottom before allowing it to reset again to its original position. Such a unique dynamic. His gas he had been producing had become more transparent with each exhale, continuously diminishing especially during the explanation. Even at that point, he didn't pay it any more mind than anything else, as if it was a typical and natural thing. Which technically it was, but it didn't stop it from being an occurrence. Tanis didn't rush Meadow for whatever she had to say, like he's done previously, and will hopefully continue to do so.
Fickle. What a perfect word!
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Ehhh... Don't like this one. I was looking for an excuse to bring in a Solarbeam charge, as we discussed. Still felt a bit forced here, if I'm being honest. But I think it went alright on the whole. Let me know if you're lacking on something to latch onto.

In the midst of Meadow’s talking, the Pichu’s ear twitched a little bit as the air suddenly grew a tad bit tense. She focused directly at the Treecko, seeing a gleam of aggression in his eye which brought some concern, stopping her from saying any more about her garden for the moment. “Um,” she noticed a white light beginning to form on his back and slowly increase in intensity slowly but surely. The Pichu was confused. It seemed to her like Tanis was charging an attack, but why? Was he even doing it on purpose? “Tanis? Are you okay?”
The Pichu was glad she managed to remember his name, but that wasn’t why she breathed a sigh of relief. Just as she was starting to get worried, Tanis’s light on his back diminished, before disappearing. This was enough to completely disperse her nerves until she noticed him coughing smoke. Last time she checked, that wasn’t normal for Grass-Types. That could even be a problem if a Fire Type did it, but That wasn’t natural for Grass-Types. “Tanis, I-” Meadow was about to voice her concerns until he spoke up with another apology.
His explanation and nonchalant attitude gave the Pichu the impression that this wasn’t the first time this happened, so she decided that she wouldn’t bring it up for now. Instead, she focused on his apology. “Oh, it’s alright, Tanis,” Meadow reassured. “I’m sure this happens to plenty of Pokemon.” That was the best way for her to say it without blatantly bringing up her suspicions of him charging an attack, which was probably something she should have asked, but… eh. It may have turned out to bring out some bad feelings. After all, he felt bad for doing it, and pushing the topic may have made him feel bad.
At the comment he gave her, the Pichu covered her muzzle with a giggle. She had to admit that, every once in a while, she entertained the fantasy that she was an expert when it came to flowers, and actually accept something that just barely resembled pride. Of course, she alway felt so embarrassed even going that far, but she couldn’t help it. Meadow loved her dear flowers, and she loved learning and sharing what she learned. She supposed she couldn’t blame Tanis for praising her for it. Still, even if he hadn’t brought anything else, the Pichu wouldn’t have said anything in response.
However, the moment he brought up the possibility of learning something new, Meadow jumped at the offer. “Oh!” The Pichu straightened herself up a little, just realizing she was slouching just a tad, getting a little too comfortable in her spot. “Yes, please! I love learning new things!” The Pichu clasped her paws together, and held them against her cheek. It was only then that she had just barely caught onto the last part he said, and just slightly blushed a tad. “Oh,” Meadow giggled again. “I think in your case, though, you were the one who grabbed my attention.” It was true. Meadow was the one who approached the Treecko in the first place, not the other way around. Of course, he could have been trying to imply that he was starting to warm up to her, but she thought it would be better the play along with his jab at being funny.
The fact that the two were starting to connect better now brought a bright smile to her face as she couldn’t keep herself from smiling.
Meadow tilted her head at his question, but she happily answered his question. “Oh, yes,” Pichu spoke, before rephrasing. “Oh, well, I’ve tried to, anyway. Everytime I try to approach them, they run away. It makes me feel kind of bad even stepping out at all…” Well, that was a fine explanation she supposed, but that wasn’t quite the way he even wanted to put it. Whoops. Guess she should have waited a few seconds before responding, and she would have known that. Perhaps he thought it was an odd question? She certainly didn’t think it was odd. She thought it was a fair question. Even if that was something she said earlier, she could understand someone missing that bit of detail.
His explanation of the situation brought a bit more clarity to what the Treecko was trying to get at, and, frankly, she was bright red now. How embarrassing! She just wanted to hide under a rock and never show her face around Invictus again! Of course that was the problem! How could she be so dense and not realize it? The Pichu felt a chill run down her spine and her stomach started to knot up. Did this guy think she was stupid now? He must have! He had to explain this to her, so he must have thought she was dumb. Why couldn’t she have thought about it herself.
For a few awkward moments, she froze before shaking her head a bit. The young Pichu looked at the Treecko, even redder now, and began making an attempt to explain herself. The key word being “attempt”. “Uh…” The female Pokemon began trying to talk, but nothing coherent was coming out. The Pichu was stuttering, and what made things worse was that the more she tried to talk since all that resulted was that her voice got softer. She thought she was going to mute up again until Tanis managed to snap her out of it because of something he said next. He tried to lighten the mood again by saying Grass-Types were being fickle.
The Pichu let out a sigh. Maybe Tanis didn’t think she was being stupid. Maybe he merely thought her mistake was understandable. Either way, the Pichu didn’t really feel like talking anymore, what with her being so embarrassed and all. She didn’t have the nerve to put herself in that situation again right now. Besides, she thought she said enough about her garden for now.
Suddenly the Treecko coughed up more smoke, and there was her opportunity. “Um, Tanis,” Meadow spoke carefully. “I… I noticed a sort of light forming on your back.” Meadow paused and gave him an expression as if asking for permission to continue. Whether he wanted her to or not, however, she kept going. “Is that an attack? It seemed like a pretty powerful one. Since we’re on the topic of Grass Type Pokemon, and you are a Grass-Type, maybe we could talk about that move for a bit? What is it?”

Post by Tanis on Apr 10, 2018 21:01:36 GMT
What made the unfolded scene a slight more awkward than anyone else realized, was not to the fact that Tanis started to get aggravated over a trivial matter that no-one should get angry over, that was a given to him by any amount of standards. It was the partial charge up of sunlight that was the result of his aggravation spike. His forgotten past did have him dubbed as the 'Sunlight Warrior' for a particular reason, and what Meadow had bore witness to was that precise reason. In a nutshell, Tanis was known as a Pokémon who could draw in sunlight as an energy source, not just for the particular purpose of using a Solarbeam, though that was a given anyway. Unfortunately that fact had been forgotten from him along with the rest of himself that he has locked away in the blank slate of his mind. Ever since he had somehow relearned the capabilities of using Solarbeam, that overall effect had become a lot more prominent and obvious, even to Tanis. He has absolutely no idea how he's even doing it, his body is just gathering the energy seemingly of its own accord and outside of his actual control. When the time comes to draw in sunlight for an attack, he can do it with no problems whatsoever, but the actual strain placed onto his body in order to perform the act is not as strong as it could be for another Pokémon doing the same thing. He is attuned to sunlight, for lack of a better term. He isn't quite aware of it himself, but his body was always able to do it, and with little difficulty.
This all boiled down to the simple fact that Tanis had zero clue that he was actually building up sunlight for a potential Solarbeam as a result of getting angry. That was merely his body's initial response to 'attacking while angered', which was a result of him not actually trying to attack. Otherwise he would've done something else instead, that then would've been a lot more obvious, and likely would've resulted in Meadow getting hurt, since Solarbeam requires a charge and the rest of his moves does not. So when she pointed out that she was certain it happens to other Pokémon, he thought she was referring to him getting angry with her. He wasn't too sure what to make of that statement from her: Extend the apology, ask her to elaborate... He wasn't sure, and he didn't really feel like wanting to bring it up any more than it needed to. After all, he'd already promised to himself he'd at least try to be a little civil, and that was the exact opposite of doing just that. His discomfort of wanting to bring it up more was limited to looking away at Meadow and not saying any more. He was more concerned that it would generate a larger rift between them, just as he thought that it was just starting to subside and close up just ever so slightly. His coughing he merely attributed to just a random cough that he couldn't quite shift all of a sudden, so didn't consider it as an after-effect of a fizzled out Solarbeam charge. He was more than happy to let the matter of him getting angry go along with the entire experience entirely with him changing it to something she had bought up.
Which turned out to be laughter, mostly. Well, this was an interesting surprise. Though he wouldn't consider it as rare as his... Disposition... Suggests, but he does sometimes praise those who are deserving of it. Most of the time that part of him is judging a Pokémon or attacking them, so it doesn't typically shine all that often. Other times it was usually concerning things that someone does in battle that he thought was quite good. That being said, he did feel as though that Meadow's knowledge about flowers were just as broad as her overwhelming feeling and excitement for talking about the subject. He wouldn't be at all surprised that she'd end up with all the points if the pair of them were dragged into a quiz show with flowers as the topic, maybe he'd get a pity point or two at most. But what he didn't understand was why she was giggling about it, did he say something funny? Don't get Tanis wrong though, he didn't mind the fact that she was laughing, certainly better than any other emotion he could potentially contend with, he just wasn't too sure what to make of it or why. But she sounded quite thrilled about the prospect with learning more about Grass types in general, even with her pride on the matter. Now that has explained away a few bits and pieces that were boggling his mind, and somewhat explains why she approached him specifically in the first place. Or at least one reason behind it. He felt as though there was another reason behind it that she hasn't said yet. The idea behind actually trying to drive the conclusion through not actually discussing it was actually working. He didn't think it would. As for her comment about her approaching him as opposed to the other way around, Tanis immediately pointed at her, opened his mouth to say something, remained exactly like that for approximately two seconds, before sighing in defeat and acting a little like he was sulking just a little bit by leaning his chin on his right paw, which the elbow of was on his right knee. His attempts aside at trying to sulk ultimately ended in him audibly chuckling a couple of times and admitting that she was right. Because she was, she did approach him first. He didn't know she was there until she touched him. Not really much he could say or do to argue that logic.
His explanation came next. He spoke bluntly and directly as he was thinking in large part because he didn't really have any other way he could properly convey his point, besides his original query in which she repeated what she told him about Grass types in her garden. That was exactly the reason why he took the point a little further. He didn't want to just merely throw the question out in the way that she's not being hospitable, but to try and explain the logic behind why he thought of the question the way he though of it. Reason aside, he felt he did an acceptable job of explaining his case. Meadow explained that the two most common Pokémon she had found in her garden were Oddish and Hoppip. From his recollection, Tanis had two run-ins, one each, with those two Pokémon. The Oddish turned aggressive and tried tricks to create distance, or run away as it were, whereas the Hoppip was literally just running scared. What he did find interesting was that she didn't complain or bring mention to them throwing powder attacks at her while they ran from her. His experience with them did suggest otherwise, but obviously all Pokémon are different in that regard, that much was certain. Take himself for example, despite his explanation clearly stating an illegal act of trespassing, Tanis wouldn't run from that particular scenario. But that's just because he's an over-confident oaf who doesn't really know much better regardless of the situation. He didn't intend to make it to be taken as a negative light or construed as a stab against herself, it was merely a possibility of what he suspected was the reason. He certainly didn't know the real reason behind them running, only a speculation through stereotyping.
... Not that it helped...
Tanis set himself to relax by leaning on his uninjured arm after he finished his speech. He honestly did feel as though he conveyed his point across rather well, and he felt content with that fact. While he may have liked it, what he hadn't taken into any consideration, was what Meadow thought about it all. From her initial reaction, she didn't like what she heard. If anything, it sort of looked like she was beating herself up over it in her head. Oh shoot, what had he just inadvertently done? He didn't even consider that what he was suggesting would topple what she thought the proper reason for them fleeing was. Now it looked like she had just come to a realization, and she was beside herself in... Well, to be honest, Tanis wasn't really sure what sort of emotion she was conveying at that moment. It certainly wasn't laughter or the happiness she shared just moments ago. She was beside herself, perhaps like she wanted to hide away or be doing anything else or thinking about anything else other than what she was doing right now. Tanis immediately sat upright again, facing Meadow with every part of his body as her face grew redder and redder with each passing moment. Just what was going on?
That wasn't the only signs she showed however. Tanis was still just as clueless as to what was going on moments ago than the moment she begun umming and stuttering with her words, slowly becoming quieter and quieter with each passing second. Whatever it was that was getting her flustered and blushing as if someone just confessed to her or something, it was slowly becoming contagious. Tanis could feel his own breathing becoming shallow, and he was forced to grip hold of his left arm once again for the throbbing pain that this time would not abate. He didn't know what was really going on, and that was what was concerning him. She had never done anything like that before, and it was definitely because of what he said during his explanation. He didn't consider just what part of the explanation was what did it, because it would change nothing. His eyes darted to his left and right to notice that the scene she was creating by herself didn't seem to be attracting any attention from anyone who was nearby, which he considered to be a good thing in this instance. But he was concerned, very concerned! His eyes shook with the unknown and with the burden that he had been the cause of this, along with a little anguish of pain from his arm. So it was only right that he corrected it. His comment about Grass types being fickle was a good start, but he felt that wasn't quite enough. So, he spoke, gently at first.... Or as gently as someone like him could be. "Meadow?" Like how she had done so with him a couple of times already, he did the precise same thing she did in those instances as he was doing here. Unlike her however, he wanted to make sure that he was heard. So much so, he actually grabbed Meadow by the closest shoulder that he could reach with his right paw, squeezing it enough that she realized he'd got it and to snap her back from the recesses of her mind back into reality. He stopped his squeezing a couple of seconds later, but kept his paw on her shoulder during what he said next. "... Meadow. You alright?" That was most definitely an unusual experience to say the very least. While the thought of letting her handle it herself did cross his mind, he still held concern for her that he felt as though he had to intervene before she exploded... Or something... Actually, what would've happened if she continued? Did he really want to know...
Regardless, she did seem to calm down enough to become coherent again. At least enough that she seemed like she was back to her usual self. That marked the opportunity for the concern that he was sharing with her to dissipate as well. Okay, so lesson learned: Be a bit more careful with his choice of words next time. He'd need to remember that along with her name, that he also ironically remembered so far. That said, it was only mentioned a minute or two ago, so that doesn't really count. The otherwise quiet and tense, not to mention unsettling, situation that was spreading between the two vanished into thin air at the call of his name again. Meadow was still willing to talk after that spell, that was a good sign to him. Retracting his extended arm and freeing her shoulder from his clutches, implying he did anything untowards with it in the first place, he performed a simple and quizzical response to confirm he'd heard her. "Yes?" It was nothing more than affirmation, and permitted her to speak her mind in precisely the same way he'd done previously. Now that the tension had somewhat lifted from the situation before, he was content with continuing with something else and letting that go for another time. This time, the subject seemed to turn towards him. Turning his concerned eyes into focused ones, Meadow bought unto him the attention of his back forming some sort of light. This, in turn, immediately caused him to turn his head towards his back, as if expecting to see his back still lit up. Alas, it was not. Turning back to face her again, she quizzed her about what that even was, confirming that it was a reference to his earlier question about wanting to learn about Grass types, and that was a good place to start.
.. Still couldn't argue with that one...
She had permission to talk about it, but the reason for it was because Tanis had absolutely no idea that his back was lighting up for some peculiar reason. This was the first time that he'd ever heard of someone or something bringing mention to it, not to mention he has never seen it occur himself, so this was quite the new revelation that Meadow had just so happened to stumble upon. Well, he knows that his entire body glows when he's in a weakened state because of his Overgrow, but that isn't restricted to just his back as far as he's ever noticed. Plus he's not in that much of a weakened state to begin with, so it wasn't that. With Tanis' initial thoughts shot out the window, his initial response was perhaps not what Meadow wanted to hear back from him. "Uhh... My back lights up?" He didn't meet with Meadow's eyes, instead he turned his head around again to see what much of his back he could see. Okay, so it wasn't an ability of his, and it's not lit up now, so that can only mean it only lights up when he uses or does something. What the heck has he done since he's been with Meadow? Well, she had a front row seat as he tried a few things to try and make his back light up. He tried coaxing it with movements first, which unless he was planning on being in a fitness video, didn't get him anywhere. The next thing he tried was one of his Grass type moves. Considering Meadow wanted to know more specifically about Grass types in particular, it seemed fitting that it'd be a move related to that type that might have been the cause. Almost instantly, he formed a cup-based shape on his right paw, and sprouted what could only be described as a small seed no bigger than the size of Meadow's own paw. All the while, he kept a close eye on his own back, yet, as the seed formed, nothing changed. Dismissively, Tanis tutted at the lack of visual response he wasn't getting. "No...." He dropped the seed directly beneath where it had formed, where it dispersed into small green particles before it could hit the ground, before disappearing entirely. Safe for the environment!
He wasn't finished with trying things out though. Next, Tanis opted to try and charge up a Solarbeam. It was the other Grass-type move he had, after all. Exhaling the current breath he was holding in, he allowed his body to tense up, which was met by a swift complaint from his left arm that he tried his best to ignore. Just like last time, the sunlight that was surrounding both himself and Meadow seemed to look like they were twisting and bending ever so slightly towards Tanis' body, as he began drawing in the sunlight's own power and strength to fuel what he hoped was his own body. Nothing happened for the first couple of seconds, almost disappointingly so. But after those seconds elapsed, his back began to brighten and shone like a Christmas tree. Result! "Ohh! There we go!" It seemed to only get brighter the more he continued to absorb more and more of the energy he required to unleash his attack. He felt like he'd seen enough to actually have a general idea of what was causing it. After all, he was still doing it. But this was something new about himself that he didn't know about. Kind of ironic that it was Meadow that actually taught him that fact. Guess they both seemed to have learned something new today. Turning back around to face Meadow again, with a content look all over his face, he finally actually responded to her query. "It's a Solarbeam... Or... Well... The charging of one." Once again, he felt like he was being much too vague on the matter, but he didn't really have another way to really express more on the matter without contemplating it at first. He had to consider just what the attack actually did, how he used it, when he uses it, and how he first came to know he had it under his belt. Hopefully she wouldn't ask that last question, he really didn't want to lay claim that he used it on a Growlithe while going after some Grimer. Bought back too many bad memories... Still, he could at least somewhat describe it at least, that's what she wanted, after all. "It's a gathering of the sun's energy turned into an attack form, that needs to be charged first. It takes a little while, but when-..." His explanation got cut short when he suddenly acted like he was literally about to bring up something he didn't want to in his mouth. What he hadn't realized, was that he had continued to charge the Solarbeam without stopping, and now not only was his back shining as bright as it could go, the ball of energy forming up the Solarbeam in physical form was about to start forming in his mouth. The act forced him to seal his mouth shut with his paws, the flowers in his lap temporarily forgotten, as he tried to stop the charging of the attack that he didn't want to pull off anymore.
Tanis actually got a little frightened that he'd acquired too much and the only option left was to continue it and then fire it at some invisible target. But the second thing that he learned about himself so far today, was that he had more control of the solar energy than he originally suspected he had. He watched with his paws still over his mouth as he looked up at the sky as the 'spotlight' that seemed like it had fell on him somehow twisted back to how it originally was, which in turn stopped the charging of his Solarbeam. That was the good news, the bad news is that he had all of this collected energy and with nothing to use it on. His body could likely use a little of it, but for the majority, it was nothing more than excess that was bubbling in his system. He was okay for the moment, but it wouldn't stop his back from making the sun itself jealous with how bright it was. "... When it's finished, the destruction is... Extreme. It's unquestionably strong. But you have to be able to channel the sun's energy to use it." That's why Solarbeam is learned by so few Pokémon, usually by Grass types themselves. Even then, only those who actually know how to harness the full potential of solar energy can absorb it and harness it into a form powerful enough to attack with. It's one thing to be able to convert solar power into usable energy, it's another to form it up into a weapon. Doing one or the other is tricky enough, being able to do both is restricted only to those with a natural proficiency for it. Even so, not actually having a primary vector to unleash the attack means that the built up energy has to come out somewhere, and that somewhere is out of his mouth again. His coughing was a lot more pronounced this time around, because it was a much longer charge than last time. It took quite a number of seconds for it to die out, all the while large traces of white gas omitted from his breath, much more densely concentrated. Even after his coughing spate came to a close, leaving him out of breath and wishing he wasn't spasming quite that much in lieu of his injured arm, his exhales was still filled with the gas substance, which Meadow now knows is not smoke or smog, but is some form of energy-based substance from the sunlight he gathered... Somehow. That seemed to be something he neglected to mention any part of.
There was one problem with all of that explanation however, and it stemmed from what Meadow said to him when she inquired about what it was, namely that she saw his back light up. It was true, his back does light up. But this bought up two very important questions: How did she know something he did not about himself, and more importantly, when did she see it? He was a little afraid of what he was about to hear if he posed the question to her, but unlike everything else he let go, he couldn't let that one get away from him. "... But when did you see this?" Tanis inquired, looking behind him to see the light bulb that is his back still shining as brightly as it was last time he saw it. "... I haven't charged a Solarbeam yet today... Least I don't think I have..." He couldn't recall an instance where he'd done so, and most certainly not during his conversation with Meadow. This was certainly a real mystery that only Meadow could possibly answer. He turned to her, expectantly. Hoping for some light to this mystery.
Hah! Light!

Whilst in her mini meltdown of sorts, Meadow was unaware of what affect this was having on Tanis until she felt something on her shoulder. The Pichu flinched before turning to the Treecko, giving him a sympathetic gaze as she realized he was worried about her. But, more importantly to Meadow, was that Tanis wasn’t making fun of her for it. The only thing she could see on the gecko’s face was the aforementioned concern. The Pichu was rather quick to relax after coming to this realization, and looked at the Treecko’s left arm as it began spasming.
Aw, geez. What did she do? She freaked out like a drama queen and now it was affecting her new potential friend. Meadow desperately wanted Tanis to feel better, so she looked at him with a remorseful gaze. “Sorry…” She whispered. Even so, his control over his emotions was leagues times better than her control over her own emotions. How she envied that.
Nonetheless, she was thrilled when Tanis followed her lead in calming down, and allowed the subject to be changed instead of bringing attention to her mistake. That being said, it seemed as though he was unaware. Or, perhaps, she was mistaken? It would have been hard, even in a bright day like this, to miss a glowing Treecko’s back. If Meadow didn’t know any better, the Treecko didn’t know his back could even glow. The Pichu wouldn’t be all that surprised. How could someone be aware of something that happened to their back?
Of course, Meadow didn’t know how long Tanis had the move Solar Beam, but she found it surprising that no one ever told him that his back glowed when he charged the attack. She was aware that he could have just learned the move yesterday for all she knew, but still. Even as someone who had no real “friends” she still had Ivysaur who would tell her stuff. The Pokemon here were all nice enough to let her know things, so why wouldn’t they tell Tanis? Maybe… was he really new here? But then why didn’t anyone tell him about the move from where he came from?
Was… was he really that lonely?
The Pichu wouldn’t be surprised if she was. Just another reason to be friends with him, she supposed. She could have been wrong, but just judging from her interaction with him, she didn’t think she would be. Nothing was inherently wrong with being lonely, anyway. Not to her. She was fine with him being by himself if that’s what he really wanted, but it seemed to her like he was more than happy with her attempts at being his friend. Maybe… was it possible that no one’s been nice to him before? How sad…
But anyway, Solarbeam! That was the attack that was drawing the energy from the sun and making Tanis’s back glow. But… why was Tanis charging a Solarbeam right then? Well, whatever reason it was, it didn’t seem like he meant to. The Treecko didn’t seem to have any intention on harming Meadow in any way. The Pichu grinned at the information she was given, though. Grass Type Pokemon had moves that allowed them to take energy from the sun? That is rather similar to plants, but to think that was an aspect that Pokemon could do. She often thought that Pokemon could only use the sun to maybe heal their wounds, but then again she wasn’t much of a battle oriented Pokemon.
The explanation of the attack was cut short, though, as Tanis tried to keep the Solarbeam down in an attempt from firing. It was then that the gecko started cough the white smoke again, and Meadow connected the dots. The white smoke was a result of Tanis trying to restrain the urge of firing a Solarbeam! The Pichu sighed in relief. At least it wasn’t anything harmful to the Treecko, or, at least, inherently awful. Hopefully he wouldn’t try to keep down a Solarbeam that’s too charged up. Meadow didn’t think that scenario would end well, but little coughs of smoke didn’t seem that bad, all things considered.
And then the question was asked. Yes, she supposed it was inevitable. Meadow placed a paw on her chin, and just as she thought, the Treecko was unaware that he was even charging a Solarbeam. The Pichu could only imagine how difficult an attack like that would be to control, not that she’d ever had a move that powerful. She’s had a few siblings who learned the move Volt Tackle, a move in which she mysteriously never learned. She remembered Pichus left and right fainting from accidentally unleashing Volt Tackle, and others fainting as a result of being struck by one. She was struck by Volt Tackle a few times herself, though she had thankfully managed to avoid contact the majority of time it happened.
But anyways, back to the matter at hand. “Well,” Meadow began. “While I was talking about my garden with you, I noticed that you suddenly tensed up. I was a bit concerned because I thought your arm was hurting or something, and then I saw your back start glowing. I think you might have been charging Solarbeam without even realizing it.” Meadow paused for a moment and shuffled her feet a bit shyly before bringing her attention back to Tanis. “I… I know I don’t know much about Grass Type moves, but… how long have you known Solarbeam?” Treecko is the first stage of the Treecko line. Meadow may not have known much about battling, but she was aware that powerful moves like that were normally reserved for the final evolution of the Pokemon’s line. Maybe he was having a similar situation to her siblings issue with Volt Tackle? That was certainly an idea, anyway.

Tanis honestly wasn't really sure whether it was his attempts at reassuring Meadow, or if she had done it by herself, or potentially a combination of both, but whichever applied seemed to have done the trick. Tanis was the first to appropriately calm down and return back to normalcy, if it could be classed as normal, once he was certain that she was also coming back to her own sense. Her calmer breathing was the first sign he received from her willing herself back, which in turn brought him back almost instantly. Even now he still wasn't completely convinced he really knew what had triggered Meadow to turn into such a sorry state. He was certain that it was something he said, but what it was specifically, he wasn't sure. He grew worried that he may have been overstepping his boundaries by touching her shoulder considering how much she flinched under his touch. Why did that seem so similar to what she did to him earlier? ... That was some kind of ironic twist of fate that has bestowed upon them both. But it proved to him that she wasn't specifically paying attention to what he was doing at that present moment, in essence, he could've essentially done anything. However, the shoulder touch and his words were all he did, and wanted to do in that situation. It was all he could think of doing at that moment.
He didn't make fun of Meadow over the whole situation because, quite frankly, he didn't think there was anything about that which was considerably funny. Nor did he really think that she was stupid, because there wasn't anything that she'd said or done so far that convinced him that she was. Even if he wasn't trying to be a little more social and treating her like he would anyone else, he still wouldn't have found it funny or stupid. Peculiar is a much better word in that instance, that described how he felt about it quite well He was concerned about the whole scene, but he was also rather confused about it all. That was such an extreme reaction that it also affected him a little bit with worry. That most certainly hasn't happened to him before... Then again, this entire series of a conversation hasn't really happened before for this amount of time either as far as he could recall. That was something he'd need to be wary of if he encountered someone else that got just as emotional about, whatever it was she got emotional about, in the future. Nonetheless, Meadow squeaked out a silent apology that, in all honesty, he wasn't too sure why she was making it. Was she apologizing because she was creating a scene in front of him? Had she forgotten that he was the one that instigated it? Well, she made her apology, and she seemed quite happy and thrilled to quickly divert the subject back to his Solarbeam and forget that any of that actually happened. Notably something else they were both doing quite often as well.
Perhaps they do share more in common than he first thought!
The way that Meadow was thinking about the various notations about Tanis, it was literally like she was reading him like an open book, almost to the point of becoming frightening. Admittedly, she didn't speak outloud about anything of what she had thought about him, but for what it was, it was quite accurate and very much true for the most part. But there did seem to be one fact that she had yet to work out, and while Tanis himself wasn't aware that she seemed to know everything else except for that said fact, in all hopes he'd rather she didn't know. It all, however, depended on if she unveiled anything of what she had conjured up in her mind, which she hadn't as of yet. She was absolutely right, no-one had ever told him his back lit up prior to charging up a Solarbeam, and he was for all intents and purposes very much new here in the town. It would definitely explain why they hadn't met each other before despite her being a denizen here for some time. In fact, there was only one thing she considered that he would've maybe objected to, which would be her attempts at her trying to be friends. He was accepting the conversation for what it was, that segment was true, but forming friendly relations... Jury was still out on that one. She has gotten closer than all other Pokémon have by trying to convince him through their words, he'd admit that much. But he wouldn't admit they were friends yet. Not yet. She was being friendly and continued to be friendly, worrying about his condition and having an inquisitive attitude about himself, mostly. But he felt that there was something that was missing from it all that he'd class as actually crossing the fine line between knowing someone, and being their friend. Meadow was definitely in the 'knowing someone' category, that was a given. But he didn't think she'd crossed that line yet, and hadn't for the past minute or so now. Meadow needed one more big push to break that threshold.
Tanis was grateful for the small break post-explanation to try and sort out to forcefully exhale more of the white smoke out of his mouth from the excess energy he wasn't able to absorb into his body. Tanis didn't hold any sort of opinion to comparing his move to Volt Tackle, if she had even asked him about it, as he didn't know what that move was. But whatever it was that she was thinking about it, he could tell that whatever it was, was definitely intensely deep in thought, especially with how she placed her paw on her chin, rubbing it as if she was busy deducing the answer to a whole multitude of things that he didn't think was related to the actual question that he had asked her. He was content with the explanation he gave her, he felt it did the move justice and did well enough considering he didn't actually want to use it at this time. Using the move itself would likely have been equally a good enough explanation rather than using mere words to explain what it actually did, but he didn't even want to attempt to try it without at least something to focus on, and he wasn't sure he would be labelled as 'Best Pokémon of the Year' in the town if he had done so. Why is keeping your nose clean so tough around these parts? Yet this didn't seem to stop her from deliberating... Something, that he was getting a mixed vibe about the longer the silence gap prolonged itself. The way she was doing it, he was halfway expecting her to suddenly figure out something and yell out 'A bolt of brilliance!', or something to that effect. She ultimately didn't, but she didn't seem willing to actually say anything until she had finished whatever was bubbling in that brain of hers. He was halfway tempted to find out if there was something wrong with his explanation that she was debating, but he decided against doing so in case he turned out to be acting dubious or perhaps even impatient. Which he was... Sometimes.
But he got his answer, and he didn't like what he heard at all. He was afraid that his anger would get the better of him at that particular point and he knew as much as the next Pokémon that he was equally as triggered when angered. So easily in fact, that it was so easy for him to lash out for no reason whatsoever, as he'd likely almost done to Meadow a couple of times already without his realizing it. He did feel as though he'd actually suppressed that urge on that occasion, as he ultimately didn't try to strike her or so anything besides get angry, stop himself, and calm back down again. As her explanation shared differently though, it seems he didn't actually have as much control over his Solarbeam than he first thought he had. Guilt immediately swamped over him as he cursed himself for nearly falling into attacking her, again, even though he promised that he wouldn't. If he charged his Solarbeam each time he got angry, whether he was actually going to lash out or not, just how much seething rage did he have to unveil or share before he reached a point that he couldn't stop the Solarbeam from happening. Tanis didn't respond to the answer she gave him, instead he turned away from Meadow and looked down at the grass in front of himself, grabbing the flowers that were obstructing his view from his lap, and acted like he was actually embracing them with both of his arms, pulling them close against his chest and face as he refused to look at anything else. Maybe he would've been better off not knowing that answer. But then again, now that he knew that, it could be a potential warning sign for Meadow, besides the obvious rage he exhibits, if she knew there was something that was aggravating him. Perhaps he should be thanking his lucky stars, if he had any, that seeing his black glowing like that didn't make her run in much the same way she was afraid that going silent or panicking like she had would drive him away. She hadn't run from him from the result of that, and he was still here and never heckled her once about it beyond inquiring if she was okay. These seemed like promising signs, yet he still considered it both as not crossing the threshold?
He shot Meadow a quick glance, not moving his head, keeping it firmly pointing and facing towards the grass. The first part of her confession sounded somewhat similar to when she was inquiring about what a Solarbeam was. That quickly got him to turn his head back to Meadow's direction. It made a lick of sense that she may not have known too much about Grass type moves, considering she wasn't a Grass type herself. It certainly proved she didn't happen to have one herself at the very least. But her following query posed to be quite the challenging one for Tanis. How long? Well, that's a question that he wasn't expecting! It certainly wasn't one that came out of nowhere, as it still pertained to the subject at hand, it was very much related. But it was one that left Tanis staring blankly at her direction immediately after she asked it. It was a perfectly legitimate inquiry and one that seemed perfectly normal to ask, yet it was also one that he had initial troubles finding an answer for. He opened his mouth slightly, as if he was about to make some sort of noise that related to him trying to think about it, but ultimately not making any noise at all. He spent ten seconds deep in thought on the matter, before coming up with nothing to actually respond with, he had no actual recollection of ever learning Solarbeam in any feasible way... He stopped thinking too hard into the matter when he could feel a headache coming from trying to delve into knowledge that he didn't have, so he stopped before he even tried it. He didn't want to think about it at that moment. As he was about to give Meadow the bad news, a flash thought did spring across his mind. The thought immediately bought him to the attention of his left arm. Which if Meadow was paying attention to him, may potentially have hinted the reason behind it before he actually said anything related to her question. "Well..." He began, giving a single wince to himself before continuing. "... I don't remember how long... But I know when I first used it."
With that, a new brief explanation began. He did what he did for two particular reasons, ultimately: He felt it would help explain the situation better, and it was nearly time to air out his arm anyway. Technically speaking he shouldn't really be covering it up like he was, but it was partially so he wouldn't draw too much attention to himself, claiming that when a Pichu noticed him clear as day! Before he could do anything though, he needed to be unencumbered. So before he began doing anything, he handed the flowers back to Meadow. "Hold onto these... I'll show you" Technically he didn't really give Meadow too much of a choice as he literally handed the gifted bouquet back to her so he had both of his arms free to move so he could show her precisely when he first used it, hoping that it would be a suitable enough response to replace what he couldn't actually answer. The first sign of an indication of what he was doing, was when he started fiddling with the know on the bandage that was coating his left arm. Located on his shoulder, he loosened the knot to allow the cloth making up the bandage to come loose and drop freely. Underneath the small amount that peeled itself away from his arm without him doing anything unveiled a second layer. "It was when this happened, a few days ago." He stated firmly, and with conviction, almost bracing himself for what was happening. He begun unfurling the bandage by circling his free arm along with the bandage itself. It was quite a long and arduous process that easily took him ten seconds just to reach his elbow. Once he got there though, he was able to straighten out his arm and tug at the loosening cloth, in seemed to unfurl much faster and reached his paws in half the time. it equated to the first layer of his strapped up arm.
He emphasized the point momentarily by raising his right arm in the air, almost in a sort of shrug, but only using that arm and not physically shrugging. "It just, sort of happened..." He wasn't watching Meadow throughout the entirety of his speech and as he was removing the bandage from his arm. She had held some concern about the state of his arm despite not actually physically knowing what was actually wrong with it, besides being bandaged up and hurting on his forearm. Yet here he was, about to show her actually what was wrong. The second layer of the bandage was the one that removed itself to unveil the skin underneath. Starting from his paw, which although looked a little darker shade of green in comparison to his other one, seemed fine enough. He continued with the next sentence once he reached his wrist, still not unveiling anything too out of the ordinary. "But, when you're on the wrong end of an attack..." The bandage continued with its removal process when the first actual sign of something being wrong unveiled itself: Redness, almost like pigmentation or inflammation on the skin, similar to a rash and just as sore. The reason behind it revealed itself a few seconds later. A wound clearly marked with teeth, and sharp ones at that. It was perfectly aligned, making it possible to see just where those teeth were when they bit into Tanis, which for those who knew, was on top of him while he was on the ground. The bite wound itself was bad enough, but the wound had given way to intense pain and the entire area coated in a bright red and swollen... Mess... That left no question that the reason he had been grasping onto his forearm occasionally, was because of this particular wound he had suffered. It was more than just a simple attack that left that mark, he was ravaged, the attack was prolonged. That's the reason why it was taking so long to heal. But, as Tanis inspected the overall damage that his arm was in, while still having half of his arm left to unbandage, he stated matter of factly. "Oh, better than this morning." Which simply begged the question just what sort of state that wound was in this morning for him to claim it was better now than it was then.
Regardless, he continued removing the second layer of his bandage, continuing from where he left off from his elbow and reaching his upper arm. Initial signs of the second wound that he was suffering from looked quite clear. A bruise-like coloration that started from his actual elbow, brown in initial color, that grew darker and darker as it moved further up his arm. He still had one final thing to say concerning his explanation, which he gave at this point, before unveiling the second of his two ailments, and the other reason behind his bandaged arm. "I dunno, I guess my body knew what to do, and I followed." The final proof that perhaps Tanis doesn't actually have full control over all of his moves as he first liked to think that he did. Yet as he removed the rest of his bandage, finishing the piling up of the cloth that he let haphazardly drop to the floor in a pile without rhyme or logic. It revealed that the browning of his arm wasn't caused by bruising, but instead was the result of discoloration by a large black Burn mark that was about two-thirds up his elbow, below his shoulder. That portion of his arm was totally black and lacked any notion that it was originally green like the rest of him was. The brown coloration was where the burn had spread to, getting lighter in shade as it travelled further down his arm, and further up his arm towards his shoulder, originating from where the black mark resides. Now that his arm was fully exposed to the elements, the sharp sensation on his firearm was so intense, that he couldn't help immediately grabbing and squeezing his injured arm in an attempt to relieve it. He wasn't getting too much in the way of success at that particular moment, and his body made sure he knew it when his arm began involuntarily shaking, which didn't help matters too much. Finally, for the first time since he started removing the bandage, he shot a glance at Meadow. Immediately, he felt as though he could read exactly what she was thinking at that precise moment. In yet another ironic twist that mimicked what Meadow had done to him a few times already, he tried to rectify the situation somewhat by trying to make it better... If seeing his arm shaking in pain and just how bad it looked was actually considered to be a good sign. "I-It's better than you th-think it is, I s-swear!" He managed to choke out, resisting the urge to verbally share just how much it wasn't. Recovery had been very slow and arduous, but it had actually gotten better since when he first got the burn and the wound... Boy that was not a pleasant sight for anyone, and he was the one it happened to!
By this point, his back had stopped thinking it was a light bulb and returned back to how it was normally. Through gritted teeth, the excess energy had since more-or-less entirely been expelled, or enough that the white smoke was barely visible anymore. He had also neglected to take the bouquet back from Meadow, although that was more to the fact that his paws were still occupied trying to relieve his pain. He was fine with that though, he didn't think they'd be disappearing anywhere without him, they were in safe paws. Their original owner no less. But what he realized only after saying everything he wanted to say, was that he'd left it all on a cliffhanger, he never asked Meadow anything so she could keep the conversation going. It was a good thing he picked up on his own folly, lest he wind up making things awkward again. His mind, however, was not really formulating any sort of coherent response that he could construe as something that he could actually ask her. A couple of seconds passed, and he had nothing. He forced himself to think of something, anything, just ask a simple continuity question if that's what it would take! Taking a deep breath, he formulated some sort of half-hearted concoction that could otherwise be construed as a halfway decent question, but not really. "Wh-What moves d-do you know.... Mea-Meadow?" This was the first time that he had actually tried to properly speak to someone while he had immediately taken the bandage of. It was tougher than he first thought it would be. The question itself was weak, but it was all he had, so that's what she got. After he posed his query, he bit his bottom lip, trying his darnest to keep his mouth closed and his want to cry out locked away inside. He reasoned with himself that he'd been through much more pain than he was right now, which he had... But it didn't make this feel any better.

FINALLY got those stupid bandages off! Now maybe I can consider getting him to showcase his climbing like Meadow wanted. I should maybe start considering probing Meadow with questions about herself eventually! :3 Soon...
