Nente, Akaren FULL NAME: Akaren Nente AGE: Thirty-nine BIOLOGICAL GENDER: Female MEMBER GROUP: Explorer HOME COUNTRY: Invictus OCCUPATION: Recruit POKEMON // WHAT ARE YOU? SPECIES: Petilil ABILITY: Own Tempo LEVEL: 15 EGG MOVE AND CLASS BONUS: Grass Whistle & Start at level 15 DRASTIC CHANGES: Normal OVERALL APPEARANCE Akaren seems standard Petilil in many ways, albeit slightly lighter in color, the result of living years in places less than perfectly suited to a Grass-type. Despite the intense training she has gone through, few scars remain, and none are large enough to be seen when first scrutinising her. The malnoruishment has also affected her growth slightly, leaving her slightly shorter than most petilils, much to her dismay. PERSONALITY // WHO ARE YOU? LIKES ✔studying - Akaren has never been the most gifted of pokemon, either physicslly or mentally. Most of her advantage was gained through hard work, without relying on inborn talents to let her breeze through life. It's a small wonder that she enjoys studying so much. She does it to excel, of course, but often pursues eosteric topics merely for the sake of mastering something, and the bragging rights. ✔the sun - of course, like all other grass pokemon, she requires the sun to photosynthesis - a secondary means to absorb nutrients other than eating. The fact that she has spent quite a few of her years in a smog-covered city has left her eith a special adoration of the sun, however. Additionally, it is her hope that with enough exposure to the sun, she will be able to grow taller, and perhaps catch up to others. ✔sugary foods - Akaren has a massive sweet tooth, as well as an adoration of all things unhealthy. She was taught by her mother that eating was optional for their kind, but that was during a period of time where the family needed to save money. The difficulty in acquiring snacks when she was younger has caused her to covet them when she finds them now. DISLIKES ✖mimicry - some say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but its hard to feel any mercy someone who has copied the products of her hard work and claimed them as their own. Not that Akaren has experienced such a theft, of course, but she is somewhat prejudiced against ditto and smeargle. ✖arguements - Noone enjoys being wrong, but perhaps Akaren most of all. Frankly, she seems incapable of admitting her errors, espeically to equals and those she deem less capable than her. What she hates most, however, are arguements, since they tend to sound undignified as they descend into shouting matches. When she feels someone is in the wrong, she will generally give them the cold shoulder, and leave after a few sentences. ✖powerlessness - in both her and others. Being unable to do anything has always been her pet peeve since she's always used to being more powerful, due to studying harder. If it doesn't amount to anything, then what was the point? Her feelings of superiority also makes it hard for her to accept the faults in other pokemon, however small, especially as a way to assign blame. HABITS ►verbal tics - when anxious, the petilil tends to speak faster, in a higher pitch, and to mix longer words into her sentences. Her pronounciation also tends to be more garbled, and she will often lapse into hand and body gestures. ►ciricling around the person she speaks to - movement has always aided her think, allowing her to think things through, and while she has someone to talk to, she often resorts to circling around the person like some antagonist from a bad novel. FEARS ►being trapped in the dark - this is the mixure of several general fears, condensed into on particular fear. She's never enoyed the night, having very little night vision and being unable to eaisly replenish her energy. The fact that she can't simply remove herself from the situation further drives home exactly how helpless she is, and the inability to take her attentions of her own emotions merely amplifies her powerlessness. OVERALL Akaren is a rather antisocial pokemon. She enjoys conversations as much as anyone despite her irritable demeanor, but her stunted ability to control her emotions makes the situation descend into chaos more often than not. She's prideful to the extreme, stubborn and hardheaded in what she believes, rarely giving even an inch. She has a way of making others feel unwelcome in the first few seconds, and often prefers to blame others rather than herself, which doesn't help her become more favorable in the eyes of others. Her paranoia often results in her acting hostile to strangers, becoming even more irritable than usual. Her favored activity is probably burying herself in her books. Something she widely preferred to interaction with others in her childhood, she has less time to properly dive into any subject now, as an adult, but nevertheless practices it as much as she could. Because of this, she belives herslef to be well-versed in all sbjects, at least on paper if not in practice, amd disdains others she percieves to have less knowledge unless proved otherwise. She treats those with equal intellect with more respect, and those who truly has greater knowledge than her, she venerates. Oddly enouh, the petilil is rather perceptive for someone so anitsocial. She possesses a mastery of reading others, but seems to focus all her efforts onto controlling others rather than controlling her own temper, and her talent at reading faces does not seem to improve her social interactions with others. She is an explorer, rather than an outlaw, but obeys the law not due to respect for its lines, but because of fear of dire consequences. She is largely amoral, and would do anything if the consequence was small enough, and the rewards gread enough to outbalance the consequences. HISTORY // BUT WHY? The birth of another child in the family was neither a happy or a sad thing. They were simply too busy to care. While the liligant matriarch had been extremely sucessful in her working life, the part of that fame that filtered down to her children was not large, and her children's children recieve less of the benefits. Akaren's mother, the matriarch's great-great grandchild, was little more than a normal liligant when she was born, and with four children already to care for, Akaren recieved relatively little care once she passed toddler age. Her father, a roserade, was their chief guardian, while her mother went off to work a branch at her grandmother's fairly successful business. They lived in a small town quite far away from most dangers, and for most of her first decade, Akaren was allowed to run wild in the fields nearby. There could be no harm that could come to her, after all. Her first few years were relatively carefree, as, considering the long lives of grass-types, her mother decided to allow her a decade or so before sending her to school. Her first memory of her great-great-great grandmother was when she approached her tenth birthday, and the vernerable grandmother had passed her two-hundred and tenth birthday. Her mother and the older generations did not get along, as the progressive mind of the younger liligant clashed with the conservative nature of others, and Akaren's mother taught her to follow her mother's path to the best of her ability. Nevertheless, the youthful Akaren was far more impressed by her great grandmother, who was a rather memorable than her mother, who she barely knew outside of work. A year after she had gone to school, her mother decided to uproot her family and move into one of the larger cities, both to give her children a better education and to pursue her own dreams, much to the older generation's protest. Her mother ignored their advice, especially since the clan matriarch was an inhabitant of the city she had in mind, it felt hypocritical for them to deny her her choice. It was there that Akaren spent the most of her next three decades, and a part of her childhood she will not look fondly upon. The fact that she was five years older in age, if not physically or mentally, would always mark her as an oddity amongst her classmates. Her old classmates, however, was her old playmates, and there were a few other liligants in her neighbourhood in her old town, as well as several other grass-types. In her new school, as both the stranger and the much-older child, she was the subject of more than a few odd glances. As a child, they weren't so bad, as younger children had not yet learned to be cruel. As they grew older, however, the teasing grew worse. Akaren understood this well, and had been somewhat prepared for it by her siblings, but nevertheless, she grew more introverted, and her sisters' warnings had only caused her to be more haughty and misunderstand her peers to be fools. She spent more time in the library than out, and grew paler green from the lack of sun. Her mother's attempt to smoothen Akaren's school life backfired spectacularly, and the link between the two grass-types weakened. Instead, Akaren took to visiting her many-times great grandmother in her spare times, the matriarch satisfied to see her spawn aspiring to follow her footsteps, and glad for one of her younger relatives to visit her. Under the older generation's influence, the petilil became more prideful of her heritage and her knowledge. The gap between her and her mother grew, as well as the divison between her and her schoolmates. Her schooling life remained the normal length for non-grass typed pokemon, as it would be odd to continue school. Either ways, she did not require it. She was adamant to continuing her education beyong basic levels, however, much to the chagrin of her mother, who was unsuccessfulin her new career and wished for the petilil to find a job with her mother like most of her older sisters. She refused, sparking a new row between mother and daughter. The two of them managed to compromise, Akaren holding a part-time job while studying various subjects. It wasn't perfect, but it would work until she found something better. This continued until the petilil was able to find a job as an accountant, in her family's business. This was also not perfect, but it gave her the experience needed for other careers. Her many-times great grandmother's death occured suddenly, five years ago. Most were shocked, as the liligant was perfectly healthy until her sudden stroke, but she was more than two hundred years old, and a few of her children and even her grandchildren had passed on already. She didn't include everyone in her will, but even so, Akaren and a few others of her generation managed to inherit a small sum. For the petilil, there was also the challenge for her to do something different. To not walk in the shadows of the older generation. She accepted. She didn't want to, for while she wanted to make a name for herself, she wanted to do it in a safe way. A way others she knew had walked before. And the path she chose now... was different in all ways, and far more difficult for someone like her. As an registered explorer, her life was going to be brutal. But her age was not passable yet, for plant pokmon had to achieve double the age of 18 until they were considered physically and mentally mature enough. The first step was to train herself to become strong. Training was difficult, especially for one such as her, who had relatively little experience, yet seeked to achieve as highly as possible. Her skill was not in physicsl attacking, and she did not need to practice physical combat as much, but there were other things to do, always, and she never did relax her standards. Maneuvers, agility, speed, how to block efficiently, and how to dodge. Some exercised she imposed upon herself, realising her ineptitude and trying to make up for it. It was painful, and she acquired more wounds in those times than she did in the rest of her life. It made life easier during official training, however, once she was accepted at age 38. She spend six months training, and six months of putting her skills into use. She would be careful in this business. Perhaps she would find it suited her better. Key points - born to roserade & liligant - somewhat influential. - fifth child - not much attention was paid to her. - ran wild in the outskirt town despite her mothers attempts. - moved to city when young - around 10 - bad experiences/humiliation caused her to close up. - enjoyed reading in school - relatively safe. - heritage and circumstances made her a bit of a snob - ostracized by peers but did not mind. - joined military to make a name for her - rather than sit at home and live like her parents. - made use of her advantages, and made it through training despite lack of strength.
