Central Park... a beautiful area to the north, with a grand monument in its center. It was a great recreational place, somewhere to come if one wanted to unwind or visit the monument. It was also one of the quieter areas of the capital, which was the reason Kino considered it one of her favorite places.
The park was especially quiet tonight, most pokemon having gone home for the evening. But not Kino. It had been a while since she'd taken a nightly stroll, and she was going to enjoy it despite the nippy breeze that had picked up. As much as the dark-type enjoyed colder weather, she hated the biting chill making her shiver every few steps she took. She was grateful that she was wearing her scarf tonight, although the silver item didn't help much.
After meandering around for a while, Kino selected the darkest part of the park to settle. She lay down on the grass in the open between some trees, the spot perfect for stargazing, at least in the Umbreon's opinion. Gold eyes were raised to the sky where millions of stars glittered, the moon a tiny claw in the sky. She was one of maybe two others still at the central park, yet those others might miss Kino if they walked past her. If her fur had been pitch black, they might have been able to see a shadow, but her dark grey blended almost seamlessly with the shadows, save for the faint glow of her markings.
'The night... isn't really your place, y'know? You stick out way too much.'
So his father had said once, some time ago... back when he still was traveling with his father, before the arrest, and the first (rather brief) stay at an orphanage. And, to be frank, Valen didn't disagree. His stark white fur seemed to pick up on any light that might be around, whether it be a firelight, starlight, moonlight, anything. It practically glowed, no less, making sneaking around anywhere a nigh impossibility.
Well, not that he was even sneaky by nature anyway. Never mind the fact that his vision in the dark wasn't the greatest; not quite as good as his kin, at any rate. Another thing he was certain his father noticed, but that had yet to really be a concern. Nor, indeed, the fact that he was probably due to be heading back toward the orphanage by now, but... well, wasn't. Instead, he was going about his usual habit of running freely as could be, out in the open where few other pokemon were left, he could vaguely tell.
If he could tell that a bit more quickly, though, it might have stopped the running Eevee from practically barreling right into the side of an unfortunate pokemon laying in what happened to be his path. Though, more than anything, especially with the size difference, it mostly resulted in him tripping over the figure and rolling to a steady halt that put him on his back in the end.
"Phew... lucky I've got all this fur, I guess..." he muttered to himself, making no effort to pick himself up just yet as he glanced over some of the view skyward. A bit... vertigo-inducing, he had to admit, but not a bad one, at least. Though there was the matter of the one he'd stumbled over...
"Oh... sorry... um..." the Eevee blinked, tilting his head slightly (which, he found, only made his view a bit more awkward) as he tried to make out... whatever it was he'd apparently stumbled over. Which he was convinced, from how it had felt, was another pokemon, but if it was, he couldn't quite make it out. A very stark contrast to him, that much was certain. "There is... someone there, right?"

She was just starting to trace out constellations among the stars, both real and her own made-up ones - like the one that looked like a smiling face. The Umbreon was so focused on her task that she didn't hear or notice another pokemon approach her until she felt something crash into her side, knocking her slightly off-balance and tearing her attention away from the stars.
At first, Kino was tempted to remain quiet, but she quickly disregarded the idea; for what reason was that necessary? "Yes, there's me," she replied, shifting so that she was facing the... Shiny Eevee, it seemed. By moving, she also hoped to let the other know where she was by drawing attention to her glowing rings - from her experience, movement caught the eyes better than staying still. "I'm Kino, and you?" Unusually, the Umbreon wasn't even slightly irritated at having her time interrupted; she reckoned it was because she was both in a good mood tonight and too tired to waste energy ruining it unnecessarily.
Hm... so there was someone there after all. That was... a little troubling, though at least they didn't sound particularly annoyed. Probably weren't really hurt either, Valen mused, given the small stature and weight he knew full well he had. Some chunk of which was probably just the weight of his fluff.
Though since he could start to make anything out (minor vertigo thanks to still being on his back notwithstanding), was that... an Umbreon? Well, that was something.
"Mm... one sec," the Eevee spoke. Shifting himself a little one way, he practically flipped up to his feet the other way, turning that motion right into shaking himself off to get his fur back how he wanted it, and perhaps remove what little bits of grass or such refuse might have gotten into it from his tumbling. "Right... I'm Valen. A pleasure," he spoke with a little grin, even going so far as to lower himself down to a partial bow. "Are you trying to just... get away from folks, then? Seems like a bit of an odd place to lay around otherwise," he asked with a curious little tilt of his head.
Well, he couldn't really say he knew much about laying around anyway.

The Umbreon watched quietly as the Eevee righted himself onto his paws, his movements more obvious than hers thanks to his silver fur being the opposite of sneaky at this time of day... well, night.
"I'm stargazing, actually," Kino replied simply, her tone friendly. She had a smile on her muzzle, but she didn't think Valen could see it. She didn't tend to go into detail when she spoke, a side effect of her quiet nature. "But it does let me get away from others for a while." After a moment, she decided to add some more words to the mix.
Other than answering Valen's question, Kino was silent, her analytical nature leading her to observe the apparently shiny Eevee... though, as her first stage evolution tilted his head, she could swear his eyes shone red. Hmmm... The Umbreon let the thought linger; for now she was more interested in sharing her interest in stars with the other pokemon. "You should try it sometime. Stargazing, I mean."
Stargazing... hm? Hm. Well, if it was trying it, he supposed he could do that. So the Eevee tipped his head skywards, still letting it remain tilted slightly to the side as his eyes wandered over the moon, and stars, and... well, alright, he could maybe see the appeal, he could give it that much. After a few moments, though, his eyes returned to the Umbreon -- never mind that he could barely make them out beyond those rings.
"It is another pretty sight around here, I'll give it that," Valen offered... if slightly weakly. He could barely see Kino, the female probably knew it, and... well, that probably wouldn't be coming off terribly well. Grumbling slightly to himself, he glanced a little off to the side for a moment in mild embarrassment, before returning his eyes to the Umbreon. Not helping, he reminded himself.
Clearing his throat a little, the Eevee looked around a little in thought, before his eyes once again returned to the Umbreon. "I guess this is a good spot for it, then? Or would you want to look around a little for any better ones?" he curiously asked.

Kino waited patiently as Valen raised his head to the sky, curious to see what he would think of it. She was a little disappointed that he didn't seem to find it as amazing as she did, but she shook it off quickly; not everyone shared her interests, after all. At least he didn't appear to dislike stargazing.
The Eevee's flirtatious words completely flew over Kino's head when they were first spoken. The Umbreon was subsequently confused for a moment when Valen looked away, prompting her to puzzle over the words and see what it was - then she figured out what had happened. "Oh. Oh," she realized, the last 'oh' being drawn out. She then realized she'd spoken aloud, but thankfully her embarrassment couldn't be seen.
The Umbreon had been so absorbed in sorting out her confusion that she nearly missed what the Eevee said next. "Mmhmm," Kino hummed a reply, then added, "Sure." She assumed Valen had asked so that they could find some light; she imagined it must not be all that fun when you could hardly see who you were talking to. Although, it would mean that she couldn't use the darkness to hide the fact that she was hardly making eye contact.

Hm... well, there was a reaction, Valen noted. What kind, he couldn't possibly say; hard to read from the intonation, and given the fact that he could barely see the Umbreon, any sort of expression would be all but impossible for him to read.
Well, it was... something.
"Right... hm..." the Eevee muttered when Kino accepted his suggestion. Where would be good, then? Somewhere still away from the few pokes that were around here and there, somewhere without too much cover to the view skyward... somewhere, perhaps, where he could actually see his current companion beyond the glowing rings. Yet, at the same time, there was still his nature to consider just as well.
"Well... why think too much about it, right? Let's just... go. Run around a little, see where it leads us. What fun are things if we can't just break out and do whatever we want, right?" he suggested with a cheerful grin, turning back to the Umbreon after a mere moment or so of thought. Already, he took one little bound forward, in no direction in particular. "Kinda like a little... dance in the moonlight, I guess. If you like stargazing, maybe you like stuff like that?"
Kino notes: nah, it's perfectly fine; and I've been a bit preoccupied myself anyway

The Umbreon hesitated at Valen's 'let's go for a run' suggestion. On one paw, she would rather stay put, or at least simply walk to a part of the park with a little more than moonlight; but on the other paw, it was night and there were few others beside her and the white Eevee. She wouldn't quite be 'in the spotlight' by the definition of the phrase, but then again going for a run didn't really qualify for 'being in the spotlight' regardless of the time of day.
"Sure, I guess?" Kino eventually made up her mind. She wasn't particularly interested at going for a run, but she'd decided she'd be fine with it, and who knows, maybe it would be fun. Besides, it was Valen's turn to introduce her to an interest of his - assuming running fit that bill. After she'd spoken, the Umbreon rose to her paws as the shiny? Eevee started moving, tilting her head slightly at his next words. "A dance in the moonlight? I do like the sound of the moonlight part, but let's stick to running for now," the Umbreon replied, making to start following the Eevee wherever he would go.
Hmm... not quite sold on it, was she? At Kino's latter comment, though, Valen blinked in some curiosity, his head tilting a little to the side. Not sold on much, was the Umbreon? Maybe he'd have to do something about that... sometime. Probably not now, while it was already nighttime.
"Hm... you're not really into dancing, or, well... moving much, are you?" he observed. "Well, I guess for now, let's just go, then. Run free, feel the cool breeze, watch the stars and everything drift by... that sorta thing. Maybe it'll be fun for you anyway," he suggested with a little grin.
Where to, then? Well, not like it mattered, really; anywhere was fine for him, at just about any given time. "C'mon. I'll let ya keep up, too," he assured with a little chuckle, before picking a direction and darting off... albeit at a moderate speed for him. Sure, he was aware enough that the Umbreon was larger than him, but well, there was a thing to be said for the fact that he'd spent so much of his own life running.

Hmm. When Valen put it that way, going for a run was starting to sound really fun. Kino didn't voice her thoughts this time, simply nodding and running after the pale-furred Eevee when he darted away. The reflection of what little light there was on his pelt did make him rather easy to follow, at least.
You'll let me keep up, huh? As Kino was starting to enjoy herself, she recalled Valen's words. Is that a challenge? Her grin stretched wider, and the Umbreon lengthened her stride, pushing herself to catch up and perhaps pass the Eevee. She had no idea of of fast Valen could really go, but she did know that he could definitely run faster than he was now.
"This is actually pretty fun!" Kino called, feeling herself pick up speed. It wasn't exactly a race they were doing, but why not make it one? A quick glance around let her make out a shadowy cluster of trees up ahead. "Race you to those trees!" Even with less night vision, Kino was sure Valen could make out where she had mentioned, although the thought that he might not have heard her never crossed her mind. Then, the Umbreon focused on her destination, pushing herself to her limits in an attempt to beat the Eevee there.
