This character is intended to be one of a pair, Amber and Nia, who I'd like to run side-by-side.

EMERSON, AMBER FULL NAME: Amber Emerson (no middle name known) AGE: 18 BIOLOGICAL GENDER: Female MEMBER GROUP: White Dawn HOME COUNTRY: Invictus (presumably) OCCUPATION: Explorer and close- and mid-range combatant, specifically covering a sniper. Excels at environmental abuse and trapsetting. POKEMON // WHAT ARE YOU? SPECIES: Torchic ABILITY: Speed Boost LEVEL: 10 EGG MOVE AND CLASS BONUS: Night Slash and Heat Wave DRASTIC CHANGES: Normal OVERALL APPEARANCE Amber is almost completely typical for a Torchic, of relatively average height and weight. The exception is her rear end - Amber appears to be a male Torchic at first glance (from behind) due to the dark speck on her rear end, which seems identical to that of a male's. This dark speck is actually a foreign substance that seems to constantly collect on that particular spot on her butt - she can wipe it off (and flick it at people), but it will slowly reappear over the course of the next day (strangely, more quickly if she spends more time resting), so she eventually learned to just roll with it. The substance is informally identified as "dust or something". PERSONALITY // WHO ARE YOU? LIKES ✔Her best friend Nia. As in, if you hurt Nia, Amber will probably beat you up. Amber goes borderline ax-crazy when Nia is hurt. Yandere much, Amber? ✔Learning new moves and techniques. Amber tries to learn everything she possibly can that could give her an edge in battle. Even stuff that doesn't seem immediately obvious - she loves pulling a neat trick out of the blue and completely blindsiding her opponents. ✔Terrible puns and snarky comebacks. Amber will sass you and/or make you groan if she sees the opportunity (and Nia is currently okay). The reactions are half the fun, of course. DISLIKES ✖Anything or anyone that hurts Nia. Amber is more than a little bit overprotective in that regard. Doesn't matter who you are or what heroics you do, if you hurt Nia, you are on Amber's shit list until further notice. And yes, she keeps a list (though she doesn't track nameless ferals). ✖Xerneas. Amber doesn't know WHY she dislikes Xerneas, she just gets a vague feeling of moral disgust whenever Xerneas is mentioned. She assumes this is related to her missing memories, but so far nothing else is known. She would probably come off as irrationally rude and hostile were she to meet Xerneas in person. ✖Rich folks who eat ferals for fun. Amber isn't sure if she was once a feral or not, but finds it generally distasteful. (rimshot) HABITS ►She will flick her butt-speck-dust at people she deems the lowest of the low. Those she disses in this manner seldom live long afterwards, but that's probably confirmation bias, since they're almost always the worst kinds of people anyway and as such were presumably on someone's kill list already. ►Amber likes to utter post-fight one-liners and then preen her wings. Nobody's quite sure how this habit came to be, but the way she instinctively gauges for a reaction despite having just KO'd or removed her opponent hints that she's used to fighting with an audience. FEARS ►Nia dying, being kidnapped, going missing, going comatose, entering witness protection, ascending to a higher plane of existence without her, or otherwise being forcibly removed from her life. To be fair, Nia and Amber would never leave each other behind willingly under any circumstances. OVERALL Amber is, despite some indications above, a relatively good person. Occasionally sassy, snarky, and spiteful, a combat pragmatist, and overprotective of Nia, but otherwise a good person. She prefers diplomacy over battle and tries her best to avert Poor Communication Kills, striving to be the sane and sensible person in any given situation... right up until Nia gets seriously hurt. The worse Nia is health-wise, the more ax-crazy Amber gets. Minor bumps or a scuff or two, and Amber is just the barest hint more standoffish. Multiple cuts and bruises, Amber splits the difference between annoyed and condescending. Get much more serious than that, and Amber is out for the blood of whoever is responsible, and will not stop fighting until the responsible threat has been neutralized for the forseeable future, usually by restraint, knockout, or sending the threat careening into the distance. She may shout overblown threats at her targets as some sort of intimidation tactic, even if she won't actually make a coatrack out of anyone's spine. When Nia is severely harmed, Amber will usually act with tranquil fury, often heralded by the simple statement "You shouldn't have done that." When in this state, Amber is utterly unphased by anything that happens, emotional expressions seemingly shutting down entirely; defeated opponents often compare her demeanor at this point to that of a sociopathic serial killer. She acts with brutal efficiency and pragmatism to eliminate any and all threats to Nia. HISTORY // BUT WHY? Amber's history prior to the age of twelve is largely a mystery. The twelve-year-old Froakie named Nia lived with her father, Tal, in a remote village in Invictus. Tal was (and still is) an explorer for the military, and Nia grew up wanting to be someone like that. Unfortunately, he was almost constantly away from home, an absentee father at best, and Nia's mother died some time before she hatched; Tal seldom if ever spoke of her. In other words, Nia was independent, but found herself increasingly lonely as time went on. One day, Nia felt exceedingly restless, inexplicably drawn to the nearby woods. She wandered in alone, despite dozens of warnings - a search team was called in after her. After several hours of walking, in the middle of nowhere, miles from anything remotely resembling a path or trail or any other work of civilization, knowing what direction to go but unable to explain why... Nia found an unconscious Torchic. The search team caught up a half hour later. The Torchic was conscious by that time and the two had evidently become fast friends in spite of Nia's usual social awkwardness - the Torchic was amnesiac, only recalling her name: Amber Emerson. No corresponding individuals of the family name have been located in Invictus or worldwide despite a rather impressive search effort. Amber was slated to be sent to an orphanage in a larger city nearby, but Nia managed to persuade her oft-absentee father to take in the orphan child. He mostly obliged out of guilt that he couldn't be there when she needed him - he was far too busy to be home as much as he should have been. Nia barely put in any effort in school until then, but Amber's rampant curiosity managed to catch her interest - if Amber thought all that information was important, then maybe some of it actually was. The two rapidly caught up and began excelling, much to the consternation of the rest of their classmates. Things seemed pretty good... until the local bullies decided to target Nia. She had never drawn attention to herself before, so her sudden rise in apparent ability rendered a gigantic target on her back, and harassment became a significant problem. Amber became more and more visibly agitated as things wore on, until finally, someone actually tried to attack Nia on her way home from school. Amber responded with a brutal smackdown that left the offending student unconscious. The subsequent investigation by the district quietly stopped when nobody could be conclusively shown to have been in the right, though Amber did suffer through several detentions. That was, of course, merely the first in a long string of incidents. Those who attacked Nia, whether in retaliation for earlier defeats or just out of sheer spite, were defeated in increasingly destructive ways by the wrath of Amber. Nearby grass was ignited by embers, trees were rigged to collapse on hostiles in counter-ambushes, and one attacker was stopped by a steam explosion that hurled him into the sky. Eventually, White Dawn moved in, offering to take the two under their metaphorical wing in exchange for turning Amber's destructive talents toward their own goals. Given time to prepare an arena makes Amber her strongest, but she's good at improvising with her surroundings; the two were thus given a modicum of military training, enough to act as explorers in a semi-official capacity. If White Dawn were conclusively proven to be corrupt, the two would most likely quietly transfer to the military.
