Tanis FULL NAME: Tanis AGE: Twenty-Two BIOLOGICAL GENDER: Male MEMBER GROUP: Outlaw HOME COUNTRY: Maldrear OCCUPATION: Wanderer POKEMON // WHAT ARE YOU? SPECIES: Treecko ABILITY: Overgrow LEVEL: 10 EGG MOVE AND CLASS BONUS: Crunch, 700g DRASTIC CHANGES: Normal OVERALL APPEARANCE While scars litter Tanis' body from the numerous battles that he has had to partake in, none are more obvious than his most recent one: a massive puncture wound that has discoloured his typical red underbelly with a bright orange 'splash' that covers approximately seventy percent of his underbelly. His back also exhibits a puncture wound, however the light green discolouration only resides just to the left of his spine, above his hip, barely the size of a Geo Pebble. When carrying a hoard of items, he carries them around in a makeshift-like bag that strongly resembles four small maple leaves strung together that is strapped to his back. PERSONALITY // WHO ARE YOU? LIKES ✔Wall Climber - A typical talent among the Treecko line, though strangely not very many utilize it in actual dungeon exploration. Why? Tanis learned a long time ago that using the walls to his advantage meant he could not only avoid encounters altogether, he could reach certain areas not normally accessible. The fact that he relishes in the thought of clinging to areas normal Pokemon couldn't do definitely helps! ✔Spikes/Thorns - What better way to attack a Pokemon than by hurling a pointy stick at them from afar. It gives Tanis plenty of opportunity to prove just how good a throwing arm he has. Of course, more Pokemon are more resilient to thrown items than others, but if they're too far away to attack conventionally, why not use it? ✔Sunlight - Whether caused by a move, or nature taking its course, if any weather is going to brighten up Tanis' mood, it's while it's sunny. It was also the staple and primary source of one of his most strongest attacks in the past: Solarbeam. With also thanks to his affinity for it, he works at his best under his favorite element. We just won't discuss how he feels about Fire types benefitting from it... DISLIKES ✖Grimy/Sticky items - What? Why?!? What use is a stupid item if it tastes absolutely disgusting or is getting stuck to everything else Tanis is carrying? It's pointless and whoever keeps stuff like that laying around should be strung up and then deported! He doesn't care for one second about stuff like that, and will personally discredit anyone who tries to make him take such an item, whatever it is. ✖Memory - World events, his own history, or something that happened just recently, if Tanis doesn't know anything about it, it will irk him more often than not. This is more prone to be the case thanks to his lack of any actual memory besides the blatant obvious. He'd rather not be reminded that he has the knowledge-span of a newborn for reasons not even he is aware of. ✖Loner - Even he would admit that social interaction is not his most strongest point, as he prefers to attack first and ask questions much later when it doesn't matter anymore. Many consider him rude when he does actually interact because he is blunt and direct, never minds his manners and will never thank anyone or anything except by 'doing favors'. He leads a secluded life for that, among other, reasons. Those who stick around him for whatever reason would need to get used to it. HABITS ►Primary Weapon - While unconventional to say the least, Tanis will utilize a Spike or Stick that would typically be used for throwing at someone as a makeshift weapon for close-range encounters. This act, while not generating any real additional benefit, does allow him to swap immediately from a close range fight to a long range one in a heartbeat, as he has his 'weapon' already primed and ready for throwing for those he can't attack right away. If he has such an item available to him, he will have one primed in his right paw. ► Sunbather - Even the 'most wanted' require off-time to themselves. For Tanis, he enjoys being out and laying in the sun, catching a few rays, typically while up on a tree branch. Sleeping during this time isn't uncommon, neither is it arguably the best time to actually find him on his good side. Interrupting him or blocking out the sun prematurely is generally not advised, FEARS ►Hydrophobia - While a most peculiar weakness considering he's a Grass type, water in any form does not work with him: Rain, Pokémon or a simple puddle on the ground, all are avoided! The flow of running water... The heavy feeling when it reaches your body... The way it drips... The mere thought is enough to paralyze Tanis to incompatibility. Those who knew of the weakness exploit it to their advantage, if just to see him become a quivering mess. ► Mediums/Psychic powers - A much more recent fear, to a lesser degree than his hydrophobia, is linked to psychic potential and Psychic pokemon in general. If probed, he wouldn't be able to give a reason why, just for some reason, he is afraid of their potential and would much rather steer clear if capable. Those with that capability would know why however... OVERALL Hardly a social creature in any manner, Tanis greatly prefers travelling and working alone to the point that he typically doesn't mingle in public areas. When he does, it's only specifically for the business at hand. Any interactions he does share with any Pokémon is limited at best. The best way to actually get him to hold a decent conversation, is to fight it out of him, either during it, or after beating him. He sees others as 'below him' until they prove themselves to him directly and fairly. Those that do acquire his ear and will listen to them. Anyone else is purely based on his discretion, which is typically ignoring them entirely He isn't ashamed to not seek assistance however. He does try to do things alone, but when he's in trouble or the situation finds him at a crossroad, any and all help he acquires is of benefit. In spite of how helpful anyone is, he is above actually saying thank you. Instead however, he will make a note that he owes a favor. At any point afterwards, the helper can cash in that favor for his assistance in some way. Tanis is not shy to get his paws dirty if the end justifies the means. Though he wouldn't stoop as low as direct conflict for no purpose, if someone wanted someone else bullied as payment for their earlier assistance, he'd do it. For the purposes of performing favors, he wouldn't ask any questions unless it's prudent to the cause. (IE: Where an item could be found) He would only do a favor for a Pokémon who he owes no debt to only if it aligned with his own current goal. His ultimate goal is to regain his past, which he has lost somehow and all of a sudden. What was his original goal? Why is he even here? Though he's not sure where he's actually looking, Tanis figures that if he searches for long enough, he'll find it. Until that time, talking about anything past-related that he probably should know does nothing but give him a headache. As such, his mind is effectively a complete blank in terms of information. He loves a good fight and clashing with his opponent, but except for a few select Pokémon he's already met, he has no knowledge about anyone. Weaknesses, moves, mannerisms, nothing is there. The most typical response is to 'yolo' and dive straight in. Far from a perfect being, he's not the type of Pokémon you want to have around, yet at the same time, he's willing to do stuff perhaps others wouldn't do, this makes him an indispensable tool, if you get on his good-side. One of the more better ways of doing that is to find him while he is resting. Best places to find him is where sunlight can be found, or atop a tree or other high surface, typically for sunlight again. He doesn't understand why, but being in the sun makes him feel a lot better, hence he will seek it out more often than not. Don't try to find him while it's raining or in a water-based area, he'll be at least three miles away from there. HISTORY // BUT WHY? While far from the perfect environment for his own parents, Tanis was born and raised in the governed forests of Maldrear. His mother, a Sceptile, worked as a Lumberer and was among the veterans in the field, though not the best. His father, a Tyrantrum, worked further up north as a miner for the ores that were extracted. Tanis' upbringing was standard and most of his younger years was spent merely developing himself and discovering his own natural talent. It took a while for it to surface, especially during the winter time, but it was eventually discovered that Tanis had a natural affinity to drawing in sunlight, in similar aspects to how a Pokémon would use Solarbeam's charge. For him though, it was a natural recurring theme, and it meant that he could sustain his strength more longer than some Pokémon his age. It was also because of this that he was capable of learning and using Solarbeam later on in his life. When he became of age, Tanis used his natural talent the only way that his parents, and himself, knew how: Exploring and fighting. Tanis took up the role of a makeshift and unofficial explorer of sorts, and took on the small jobs that became apparent: Delivering items, finding items, dealing with terrorizing Pokémon, and a few others. Though hardly making a name for himself, the local folk at the very least took note and utilized him at some point within the couple of years he did so. This lasted up until two key things occurred: The mine collapse, which ended his father's career as a miner, and the beginning of the outcry for the protection of Maldrear's environment, which forced his mother out of work as well. While not immediate, this caused a great tension to his family as things got worse and worse with it becoming apparent that Tanis was the only one fending for all three of them. Money and food were the main issues. This forced Tanis to work more and more, with barely any respite time to see his parents. That was until one fateful day occurred, a shady Pokémon that refered to herself only as 'Soulless', gave Tanis what he considered a simple job, and promised a hefty reward, along with an initial down payment that was more than he would earn in a week otherwise. The task was to 'deal a blow' to the group that was protecting Maldrear's environment. It was simple enough to roughhouse a few of the Pokémon there and do a bit damage to their workings. Nothing too earthshattering, but enough for them to take notice. Soulless was pleased with his performance and delivered on her end of the deal. But as Tanis later discovered a couple of days later, it was not without its drawbacks. Thanks to his actions, while it re-allowed his mother to work again, under the group's watchful eye, he was immediately shunned by everyone. Turns out attacking the main populace who are considered innocent is considered a wrongful act. As a result, he became an outlaw, and was forced to live in exile. Considered too big a threat to the populace, but not dangerous enough to capture. This forced him to spend a couple of years wandering the land to find his place again. After having been shunned from the community, he sought after the Pokémon he considered to be the true culprit behind his actions: The one who refered to herself as 'Soulless'. This took him to searching aimlessly and chasing any and all rumours that he came upon. While he was restricted to locations based just on Maldrear, there was enough to go on that his exploits reached everyone's ears in due course. His actions were monitored, sometimes carefully if he was nearby, but true to their word, he never once set a paw where he'd be considered trespassing. He waged through numerous places, scavenging, fighting and attempting to find a solution to his problem. All were ultimately in vain as while he continued to chase up rumours, he was no closer to finding her. The only upside, was that he grew much stronger... At the cost of becoming accustomed to being alone and working for himself. To keep himself afloat and to keep himself alive, it became necessary for him to perform questionable acts. When shopping is no longer possible in a populated area, he had to fall to the 'uncultured' and wild Pokémon that adorned the unsettled areas. This did include actively seeking and attacking members of that very community he was banished from because they took or did something that didn't sit well with his contractor. These acts, while necessary for him, did label him as a proper outlaw with a bounty for his capture which slowly grew as time passed and altercations increased. By the time he had racked up a decent amount for his capture, he no longer had positive or poor feelings about tasks he took, whether they were favors or a service in exchange for goods. They were a means to an end, and he would do anything, even those most darkest of crimes. This continued until he learned of a rumour one day in which a legendary Pokémon by the name of Celebi had been spotted in a heavily forested area that was rumoured to be a death trap by anyone who tried to enter: Anyone who went there, never came back. According to that rumour, Celebi was a time-traveller, and with its assistance, it would be possible to go forward in time to the future, or more important to his needs, back in time to the past. If he could go back and stop himself from taking the task that 'Soulless' gave to him, all of what's happened would be erased. Tanis took no time gathering everything he had and set off to find Celebi. True to rumour, travelling through the forest was an arduous and taxing journey. Definitely anyone who was underprepared would struggle here. Driven to reach his goal no matter the cost, Tanis held onto every available item he had until they were absolutely necessary. Not even he was fully prepared for it. In spite of all of the travelling he had done in the forest, he hit a roadblock approximately three-quarters of the way through it. He was stopped by a group of three Pokémon who called themselves 'Team Verwechslung', which consisted of an Umbreon, Hypno and a Heracross. They threatened their purpose straight away and proclaimed they were here to 'deal with him'. Dealt with him they did. A combination of Confuse Ray, Hypnosis, not to mention numerous other attacks, put him down very quickly. Tanis' only contribution to the assault was doing a number on Umbreon before they crippled him. He proved strong, but against an organized team, he stood no chance. He fell to their might in short order. As the three were preparing to leave, Tanis made one crucial error of judgement that ended up becoming his downfall. His energy sapped and with nothing to his name, his will and drive to reach his goal managed to spur on a weak rally on his part. Seething and seeing red at the fact that he crumbled so easily, he made one last attempt at piercing a path through the unsuspecting three. He spent some seconds carefully watching the three, his teeth bared, as he gathered up the solar energy that he had done so many times previously. Once he felt he had enough, he had no intentions of hiding exactly what he was doing. He unleashed his Solarbeam at the Pokémon he had put so much focus on: Umbreon. As Umbreon took the attack, the other two, having realized he got back up, immediately went back to work and launched attacks of their own. The last Tanis saw was Heracross hurtling straight at him horn-first, and Hypno in preparation for some kind of psychic-based attack. Having already been weakened and already in a state that he shouldn't have gotten back up and fought some more, there was only one appropriate conclusion that came upon the two attacks that came his way. Heracross pierced straight through whatever defense he didn't have left, and left him with a massive 'stab' wound on his stomach. Hypno's resulting confusion that came afterwards not only placed the confusion status on him, it landed cleanly for an otherwise critical hit. Rocked and battered, Tanis wasn't getting up to continue the fight afterwards, and he didn't. The task was done and the team successfully captured their prey, albeit a lot worse for wear. Unknown to Tanis at this point, the team brought him only as far as the forest entrance, and then left him there to return to their own home, no doubt for congratulations and payment. Tanis spent the next month and a half under the care of a Sewaddle group who were led by a Leavanny that they considered their 'elder', and was the one who found him bleeding and unconscious. They were just as in the dark about what happened to him as he was when he finally rose. But the reason he, himself, had difficulty remembering, was because he couldn't recall how he got into such a state. As they all quickly found out, he didn't have any recollection of anything at all about anything, even his own name. Naturally the wound Heracross left on him would leave a permanent reminder of how treacherous Bug types can be to him, but it was ultimately Hypno that performed the irreparable damage to his memory. Tanis' own mistake was trying to continue the fight when he shouldn't have. Hypno's mistake was hitting him with a critical Confusion that dealt its effect on him. Though no-one realized it at the time, some sort of psychic residue has remained in his mind, much like how the aftermath of Heracross' attack had left a permanent scar on him. As a result, the aftereffects of it has caused an absolute wipe of his own memory. The conclusion that the group looking after him came to, was that Celebi did it, after all, it was supposedly around there after all. He was informed that the only way to reverse was most likely to find Celebi again and ask it to undo the effect. Seemed logical enough to Tanis, though he hardly knew any better at this point. When he became well enough to travel again, he sought after an answer to the new question that lingered in his mind: What's going on? He vowed a promise to perform whatever task the Sewaddle group wanted in the future, and set-off, still heavily bandaged with flora, in an attempt to find an answer. He learned quickly that his name was Tanis, and that he was exiled, but never disclosed a reason why to anybody. To find the answer to that, he returned to his home. From there, he was immediately captured and brought forth to the town's government bodies, or what remained of it, for sentencing. When asked for his closing statement, presumably in an attempt to apologize, his comment was simple that he didn't remember doing all that they claimed he did. The Sceptile and Tyrantrum that had, for reasons he couldn't understand, stood beside him during all of the sentencing, looked at him as if he'd gone completely mad. Was this really their son? The end result of it all was the deportation and removal of Tanis from the land of Maldrear in its entirety. Let another place of land deal with the troublemaker. With all knowledge of his battle expertise evaporated in the cloud bogging his mind, and nothing but the miniscule amount of resources that the Sceptile and Tyrantrum actually gave to him, he was driven off and sent to the land of Invictus, presumable so they could deal with him. The whole situation confused him greatly, as he didn't understand why they were sending him here. Was there something here that would help him find the answer of what's actually going on? He didn't know, but he's here now... It was time to wander around and see what he could find. OOC // WE UNDERSTAND OOC NAME ►Darkringer OTHER CHARACTERS ►N/A |
