The Row was quiet, the street nearly dark save for the gentle glow of moonlight. One small structure, however, still had lights in the windows. Ruthilo's, and the owner/operator stood in the doorway, lighting the twin lamps that framed the door's top, giving a beacon of direction to the patrons he was expecting tonight. "I wonder how long before they get here. The money is certainly good, and I swear I recognize the names from somewhere. Not that I have any complaints. This will go a good ways to getting me a bigger place, and maybe I can even afford to hire help this time around." He deftly got the twin lamps lit with a simple strike of his blades against some flint he'd placed in each lamp for this very purpose. The natural oils he used were of course made from some of his hunts, but perfumed to not smell as such. Respect for the hunt meant wasting nothing. Such was the Heridox way. "Mmm. Should be time for them to arrive soon. I wish they'd at least told me what they wanted me to make. Some dishes take quite a while to prepare, and I don't like the sound of rumbling stomachs." He shivered, though not because of the cooling air, but because of memories of his own times of hunger. Turning to head inside and wait, he looked over his humble restaurant. The plain white stone, caringly carved by stone masons whom he'd more than happily paid for in meals and sweets. The gently sloping wood shingle roof, also paid for in a similar manner. It was an unassuming exterior, and he smiled at that. His attraction needn't be how things looked. Oh no, it was his food that was his calling card, and it was all he needed as far as he was concerned. He shook away the moment of reminiscing over how he'd gotten here, and moved to enter. The night was young, but she was not. The vixen had been invited out to dinner for some sort of business proposal by one of the teachers in her academy. Apparently they had gotten reservations at a restaurant with the finest cuisines that she could not wait to try. While she may have been exhausted, hobbling all the way to nearly the other side of the city, she looked forward to trying something new for a change.
The pokemon that had invited her, a weavile, walked alongside her. The dark type praised about many things from how brave she was to how skilled she was, it was quite obvious that he was attempting to butter her up for whatever proposal they had in mind. Honestly she was a bit suspicious, what kind of proposal was it that required this much setting up? She had decided to push the thoughts aside for now and simply enjoy the free food she was about to get.
They both approached The Row, an odd name for a restaurant, but that was not her main concern when they entered. The weavile had opened the door for the three legged ninetales and she was greeted with the unsettling smell...of meat. Cooked meat. She hesitated visibly, stopped in the middle of the doorway but pushed on as the weavile nearly closed the door on her. She was not an eater of meat herself, in fact, she was quite opposed to the idea of just talking about such a sensitive subject. She did not know for a fact if this was right or wrong, but she personally did not like the idea of eating food that once had the capability of thinking just like herself.
"What's wrong?" The weavile spoke with a large smile as if nothing was wrong, "Was the walk too much? I should have picked someplace closer, my-"
"No-no!" she interrupted the weavile with a cheery and forced grin of her own, "It's uh, fine. I'm fine."
The weavile clasped its claws together, "Oh good! Well then, let us go find a seat!"
Vixx really hoped they had salads of some sort here...

Hearing the duo enter, Ruthilo was out in a flash, giving a very slight bow of his head in greeting. The red stains on his lips and blades were hard to miss, and the carvings of butcher knives in his chitin even harder. Despite this, his overall demeanor radiated kindness. The way he held himself, the way his eyes gleamed, and even how he kept both the points and the blades of his arms pointed away from his customers.
"Welcome, welcome. Ruthilo has table ready for night of good food for two! Please, have seat."
He indicated with a nod towards a small table set near the center of the dining room, with a pair of seats and a single large candle set in the center, with ready to use utensils already placed near enough if needed, but out of the way should they not be. What was likely odd to both of the new customers was the simple fact that everything seemed to lack any kind of serious decoration. It was all so plain, and yet that held some comfort as well. This was a place that wasn't trying to use fancy looks to get attention. This was a place that was all about the food itself.
"Ruthilo will take orders when ready. No menu tonight. Ruthilo can make most anything. If not sure, can make suggestions. Just know some dishes take long time."
He pulled out the chairs for each of them, showing impressive delicacy with his blade points, all while moving with the swiftness that was common among his kind.

She could only assume what the red marks upon the blades of the scyther meant and it was not a pleasant assumption. She was uncomfortable. While her expression beamed, it was forced. The ninetales and the weavile were welcomed to the pleasant restaurant of meat by the lovely bug type before they were given seats. The ninetales followed behind the weavile as they were led to their seats, nervous glances cast around as the smell of cooked meat only grew stronger. This was such a....plain place. It did not at all look to be of top quality.
In fact, it looked like she had been taken to some lower standard joint that only just barely made ends meet. While she was one for helping to support the little guys, this all did not look well to the first impression for whatever proposal the weavile had to offer.
The scyther had moved quickly and offered just about anything on the menu. Oh sweet relief maybe she could just have some berries or some sort of salad. The ninetales allowed for the host of this little trip to speak first as the weavile cleared his throat, "Impressive, I'll have to speak with you about my dish in the kitchen, as it's quite...specific in nature. If that's alright?" The Weavile pushed the chair that had been offered to them in as he figured he would follow Ruthilio into the back to see if they had the proper ingredients.
The vixen found herself being watched by the Weavile as he waited for her to place her order. The vixen spoke up suddenly, "I'll just have a salad, thank you," she spoke pleasantly. She was nervous here, not because of the meat that surrounded her, but the controversy. Had the weavile plotted something? There would be plenty of questions that would rise over her presence here. The papers would definitely be all over this, especially the school papers. Many questions were going to arise back at the campus if word were to get out about her presence.
Oh dear, this was just one mess waiting to happen. She really hoped that if the weavile truly had some sort of proposal, that he could get it done quickly. She had half a mind to just reject it right now, especially with the thought of the dark type leaving her alone to talk about some silly meal with the chef!
The weavile seemed to have been amused with her answer, "Aw come on, you don't wanna try it?" he pushed.
"No-no, I'm good," she reassured the weavile in full knowledge of what the weavile had meant.

Ruthilo was not so practiced in hiding his emotions, and at the moment, he looked confused by the request, one of his blades tapping the stone floor gently, but audibly, as he thought about the proposal.
"Ruthilo is certain he has ingredients for most desired dishes in region, but will oblige with checking together. Before Ruthilo leaves for kitchen, he must ask what kind of salad would be preferred. Have many possibilities, and Ruthilo would not want waste chance to show skill."
Having turned to Vixx during his buzzing speech, he put on his best winning smile, which while notably reddened along his maw, his visage was nothing but heartwarming in both expression and eyes, his very way of standing saying 'I'm not a threat'.
"Ruthilo know not want anything from hunt, so offer forage menu. More than salads. Have a savory berry pot pie even. Got recipe from Heridox in another town for Ruthilo's own sweet bread. Good trade Ruthilo thinks."
This time he did produce an actual menu, this one chock full of what looked like hand...blade written listings of dishes, ranging from vegetarian pasta with nuts and a berry sauce to dishes that seemed hard to pronounce, but had their ingredients listed for reference, and it was entirely meat free.
"Ruthilo will give simple salad if that what you desire still. Will return in moment with other guest."
He turned and was quickly gone through the kitchen doors, leaving the Weavile to catch up to the quick cook. His kitchen was just as plain looking as the dining room, made for efficiency, not beauty. Already he was prepping his oven and stovetop, as he would rather have them warmed and ready to start if they were needed. As soon as his guest caught up, he'd have on sentence for them, though without looking.
"So what special dish does guest think Ruthilo might not have ingredients for?"

To her fortune, the scyther was considerable for one of her preferences. The scyther produced a menu for her to glance through, the list of items placed onto the table. Her eyes took on a glow as she utilized Extrasensory to situate the menu and open it before her to read. It was difficult to read and focus on keeping the menu in the air at the same time, so she had set it down with a more relieved expression upon her muzzle. She gave a nod towards the scyther and the weavile as the two departed before she focused on the menu before her. Oh, the Chilan Berry looked like it would have been good-but the enigma berry! Oh this was going to be a tough decision. The vixen paid no attention as the weavile and the scyther walked away, completely unaware of what the ice type had in mind for their little outing.
The weavile was eager to follow the scyther to the back. The scyther was quick, but so was the weavile. It was all too eager to give the proposal to the chef, a grin stretched across their smile as their claws tapped against the tips of each other.
"Ah, yes, Ruthilo," the weavile cleared their throat as their claws interlocked with each other, "there's only one particular dish i'm concerned about. I'm very picky about my dishes, but I'd very much like for you to prepare it. I've heard great things about this place from a colleague of mine, a previous customer I'm sure, so I decided to see if you would be up to the task of preparing it."
"There's only one ingredient I am sure that you do not have, but luckily I have brought it here for you to use..." the weavile paused with a glance back to the tables towards the ninetales they had brought here. The view was clear, easy for him to point to as one claw raised to the direction of the unfortunate ninetales, "Her," he spoke with a quieter sinister tone. The weavile quickly moved their arms to a more nonchalant shrug, "Or at the very least a tail or two." Ruthilo

Ruthilo had paid rapt attention to the Weavile, this time keeping something of a poker face as he heard the request, though his eyes hardened for a moment towards the other pokemon. Once heard, his wings buzzed in agitation, but very few knew about that particular sign, or so Ruthilo himself thought. "Ruthilo would like to know what Weavile's friend told about Ruthilo. Is important to hear what customers think, yes? But give Ruthilo time to think. Is not often Ruthilo gets such request." The bug tilted his head, tapping the tip of his right bladed arm against his chin, looking over his spices, as he did so, before giving the Weavile a stare. "Ruthilo say out of kitchen now. Only one cook in this kitchen, and that is Ruthilo! Please send Ninetales in. This dish take much time to cook. Will even have to close window to dining room to make sure undisturbed. Understand? Do not disturb dish making!" He turned and began to rummage in one of his cabinets, assuming the Weavile would listen to the cook about his own kitchen as he began to mutter, things like 'need flour..but what best...hmm, brown sugar? no...not make too sweet.' The weavile was oblivious to the agitation of the scyther despite the buzz of the wings. It was not at all familiar with the mannerisms of pokemon that he himself did not frequent being around. The weavile took the lack of explicit disapproval as an agreement. Great! A sociopath cook, literally exactly what he had wanted. The ice type listened as Ruthilio spoke. A request about the friend was brought up, but the weavile had assumed it was only a sort of feedback survey that his source had failed to take. Seemed simple enough! His friend had never actually suggested this sort of service, just mentioned that the cook seemed quite odd. He could see where his source was getting this from. He had taken a complete shot in the dark with this and it had worked out so well; he was thrilled!
"I'll tell you after you deliver since you're probably going to be a bit busy," the weavile had responded before he was suddenly requested to leave the kitchen at the scyther's request. "Okay okay, just be careful around her. She may be an old fart with three legs, but she still has quite a kick to her. Don't look into her eyes, she's quite capable of distorting the mind and even inducing a deep slumber at will." The weavile left with those words in the assumption that the scyther was going along with this. There was no visible or verbal rejection that he had seen, so it was the only option left, right? "If you need me, just give me a call. I'll be sure to make sure you're greatly repaid for this."
He would have been greatly pleased if the scyther had managed to kill Vixx completely by himself, but he would have been happy if the scyther had managed to shave off a few tails. The weavile did not know if the rumor of a ninetales's tails being the source of their power was true, but he needed it to be true right then. If the tails were to be removed, then surely the fire type would become weaker. Weak enough for him to finish off if need be. He would have rather had Ruthilio do the job himself, but the blatant type advantage Vixx had against the both of him intimidated him.
The weavile left the kitchen with those words with a content grin stretched from ear to ear. He approached the table that the vixen was seated at. She still looked highly uncomfortable. Good. She should be.
Vixx had curled her tails around her paws which made a large bush of fur on the side of her half-leg while only two of them wrapped around her other side. Her ears perked up as she saw the weavile approach. "Did he have your dish?" she asked in a polite and forcibly relaxed tone. Her body betrayed her tone with her tails tightly wound around her paws. She could not help but feel as if her back was vulnerable as the urge to turn and look every now and then was fought off. The restaurant itself was not what bothered her now, for the weavile's expression looked quite...strange. It was almost as if he were too happy and calm. What was this dark type up to? While she was immensely unsettled, a strong urge to defend herself had arisen. Defend herself from what exactly? Hell if she knew.
"Yes actually! I just had to give him a tip or two on what to use," the weavile seated himself with his claws interlocked with each other.
"Well that's good," she spoke with a slight pause, "So about that proposal? It'd probably be best to get that out of the way first so we can enjoy our meal in peace."
"I agree actually," the weavile had spoken, "It's about the particular, ah, management of the academy that I would like to speak with you about. We've come across a bit of a problem with our reputation, so I think we need a new...image so to speak. Especially with the spread of word about that student of yours. I think it would be for the best interest of the academy to have a younger representative that others can relate to more-"
The fire type's ears had flattened as her nervous demeanor dissipated completely. Her ears flattened with a furrow of her brow as she did not at all bother to hide with the displeasure with this proposal her jaw dropped to speak as she interrupted the dark type, "Absolutely not!" Her give up control over her own life's work? As if! If she were by some twist of fate pass on before the leafeon, seeing as she still had a good four hundred to five hundred years left on her lifespan's clock, the academy's earnings would go to Indria while the management of it would be however Indria saw it fit. She trusted her student the most....most of the time.
"Now now, don't shoot it down so quickly! At the very least allow me to explain myself, but first I forgot to inform you, the cook wanted to see you. Something about the salad I assume." The weavile had expected her to reject the idea, but to his luck, Vixx was reasonable enough to at the very least listen to what he had to say.
The ninetales's tails unwound themselves, "We will speak more after I tend to the request then." Vixx had doubted the weavile actually forgot, however, and instead figured that he merely wanted her to give some time to calm down and butter herself up towards the offer. Pah! As if she would do that.
"Oh i'm sure we will..." the weavile assured her as he watched her leave.
The ninetales stood up with a little difficulty before she left the table and hobbled towards the kitchen. She should have brought the prosthetic, ugh she did NOT think she would be doing this much walking today! She entered the kitchen; the traces of both meat and blood in the kitchen hit her senses like a train but she forced herself in. "Hello? You requested me?" she asked as her eyes scanned the kitchen for Ruthilo .

The Scyther turned to look at the Ninetailes from his work, a large array of vegetables on the table ready to chop and mix already. Some of the simpler green leaves were already in a bowl, sliced into ribbons expertly. Even as she watched, he tossed a carrot into the air and diced it with practiced ease without even watching it. Nothing unclean was left upon the salad in the making, either. They may have been stained, but he kept his blades clean despite the look.
"Yes yes. Ruthilo has questions for guest. Many questions, Ruthilo must say. But Ruthilo must ask important ones first. What does guest know of Heridox Clan? Of Ferious? And please, tell Ruthilo if see anything would like in salad."
He continued his relaxed escapade into salad making, blades moving smoothly, leaving no bruises on the more delicate of ingredients, yet slicing clean through others without a hint of hesitation.
I wonder, I wonder. Is this one who wishes to participate in our ritual? That would explain this Weavil bringing her here for such a thing and her seeming so calm about it. It's either that, or I'm being used. Either way, I'll find out the truth and act accordingly. I'll have to force myself out of the broken speech though. I hate how I'm stuck talking like this sometimes, but it's also part of me.
After a moment, he seemed to straighten up and lose some of that 'predator' feel he gave off. Turning away, as if in shame, he spoke once more, the buzzing far less notable in his voice now.
"And I...must apologize if my...um...method of speech is unliked. I try to speak, um, thoughtfully, but it is sometimes more than I can handle while working. I...have trouble saying what I think the same way as I think it. Is...hardest with strangers."
He shook himself, bringing back his smile and a little of that predatory feeling. Thankfully, the kindness he also radiated was still there as well.
"But Ruthilo must apologize. Did not let answer questions. Please do?"

The ninetales was quite baffled by the question. She had expected something along the lines of what kind of berries to use in specific or even a request of whether or not she wanted some sort of meat in it. This? This was different. This had nothing to do with her dish it seemed. Still, it would have been a bit rude to not answer, right?
"Ferious? Yes, I know of the Heridox clan," she spoke up, "It's the largest meat export closest to Invictus. It has a high population of ferals and the Heridox clan are known for their ah, participation in a ritual for thinning out the numbers of ferals through hunting. The clan is quite minuscule in proportion to the number of ferals and is often seen as a dangerous place to enter unprepared in the wilderness, especially during the ritual. I could ramble on about them all day, but I'm certain you haven't called me here just to list off information about them."
What kind of teacher would she be if she were not aware of a key point in Invictus's more modern history? She seemed to have relaxed a bit more than she had when she entered as she grew more accustomed to the environment she was in. Still, she was aggravated by the words of the weavile. How DARE he? She was going to have quite a few choice of words with him when she was done here, yessiree! She would gladly sit there and debunk every little argument the weavile could come up with, for she had lived far longer than the weavile and held significantly more experience in running her academy than some freshblood who thought he knew everything there was.
"The speech is fine, dear," she attempted to assure the scyther, "I may have been a teacher, but I'm only strict towards those I have taught. If it's difficult for you then go with what you are comfortable with. We're not writing a business proposal." unlike SOMEBODY. she added on in thought that she kept to herself.
"So long as I can understand what you are saying we should be fine. If need be I'll repeat back to you my understanding if I am uncertain to see if I am correct in what I heard," A more welcoming smile warmed onto her before she spoke, "What about them though, might I ask?"

"Ah, Ruthilo thanks. Ruthilo also ask you not speak loudly. Not much sound get through clsed window, but too loud can. Ask because important."
Here he quickly sliced through a melon, his blades once again coming clean despite what he was cutting. The salad was starting to look rather delicious, as both vegetables and various fruits were entering the fray, the smells mixing into a wonderful bouquet, ready to make even the least hungry start to salivate.
"Ruthilo, see, is Heridox. Many think Clan not have rules. Not true. Have rules. Important to have rules. Elders make sure all clan know. One rule, Ruthilo tell. When get old or sick, Heridox choose how return to cycle. Many choose become dish for family. Is respect. But only dying one may choose. Is...what is word...not respect...ah, yes. Is honor of dying one to be something dying one likes. Many choose early on and tell trusted one, in case accident."
He turned away from his work, looking straight into the vixen's eyes with his own hardened visage, the blades sitting at his side, entirely relaxed. However, the strangest thing was that he seemed ready to defend himself, rather than attack. There was no fear, but there was certainly a wariness to the oddly speaking creature.
"Ruthilo does not see dying one here, and you not make request. So Ruthilo ask. Is teacher here to become dish? If not, Ruthilo fear teacher in danger from Weavile, who want dish made of teacher."
The way he said it all so calmly spoke as many volumes as his stance did. Namely, that this likely wasn't the first time he'd gotten such a request and then confronted the one that was supposed to be eaten. And just as likely, wouldn't be the first time he'd been informed such was not the case. Probably a few times he had been told in a not so friendly manner as well.

The words of the scyther unsettled her. Her jaw snapped shut as her ears perked to attention with mild alarm. Her? Become someone's...appetizer? Most certainly not! Oh no-no no! It was fortunate that the scyther had requested a quieter voice from her as she restrained the urge to unleash an outraged, "WHAT?"
"No-I...what?" she was quite baffled by what the scyther had to say. Then, suddenly, it seemed to dawn to her, "Oh, is this some kind of practical joke? I may be old, but I'm not THAT old."
While she respected the Heridox's clans beliefs, she...was not one to participate. She may have been borderline suicidal for quite a long time throughout her life, but she had moved past that phase of her life. She couldn't just up and die now, she needed to look after her little Indria!
Somehow, the expression of the scyther had informed her all she needed. This was not some practical joke, "You're serious..." she commented in disbelief. A newfound fury had risen within her. Her tails began to lash, though she was sure not to strike them into anything.
"That...that dastardly..." she could not even find the proper words to describe her fury. Her ears had pinned back against her skull before she took a deep breath. "Should have expected this..." she grumbled to herself. The ninetales cast a glance towards the scyther, who seemed to have placed himself into a rather defensive position. A suspicious eye still on the scyther, she spoke more directly to him than to herself, "I did not come here to die."
She waited for the scyther's reaction. She waited to see if the sharp-bladed pokemon was going to even TRY to be her assassin.

"Is no joke. Not come to die, then perhaps Weavile come to die. Not smart, come to Heridox, not know Heridox rules. Ruthilo not sure who tell for this. Can help Ruthilo? Not want kind of...what word...reputation as this."
He pointed towards the dining room, anger showing on his face, but he seemed more relaxed despite this.
"Ruthilo not sure how handle this one. Last time, had to fight. Ruthilo hunter, not fighter. One to be eaten help though. Had military take away. Not sure what happen to after. Ruthilo told always let know who do such. Want Ruthilo help take down for arrest, or want go get help while Ruthilo keep busy. Dish take long time make, yes? Weavile believe, yes?"
Here, his smile became what could only be described as evil, whereupon he opened a cabinet that, compared to the rest of the kitchen, seemed out of place. The stone building had only this one cabinet as wood. In it, unlabeled packages adorned the shelves, one of which he gently relieved of a burden in the shape of a bottle. It was grey clay, with a simple stopper.
"Or, could make substitute dish with sleep. Easier, perhaps? Would have to eat with to make sure all goes well. Tell Weavile, maybe, that appetizers before main meal. I can give excuse want to give last meal to you?"

The scyther had confirmed that this was indeed no joke before what seemed to be a request for assistance was made. The vixen relaxed, although only slightly, as she was assured that the Scyther was not about to attack her and turn her into a dinner for the weavile anyways. It was likely rude to even think of such a thing, but she was not about to take any chances. She had a good extra century ahead of her before she was ready to be put under.
This situation had happened before, though it had resulted in a battle against the one that wanted to consume the "Prey" as she would put it. As much as she would have loved to teach the weavile a lesson in a more physical sense, she could see the opportunity to set an example of him back at the Academy. As sad as it was for her to admit, there were one or two within the academic walls that would have loved to see her gone.
"Hm...I don't think either killing him is legal nor calling the authorities would be effective for him. While the Military would be the right thing to do, he technically has not done anything against the law just yet that we could easily prove with solid evidence. He's quite the crafty one, so I'd imagine that if we were unfortunate in what help the military sent, he could easily turn it against us."
Her tails calmed themselves as a thoughtful look overcame her, though it could have been more easily taken as a more...malicious plotting. The fire type's mind wandered about and toyed with an idea or two for a brief moment before she spoke up at last, "Let's make him fall asleep. I could use this to my advantage back at the academy. No harm will come to him, but he's most certainly not going to try this again when I am through with him. The only way someone of his nature will learn is from this mistake is by a more intense example than being placed behind a few metal bars for a month or two." Ever the teacher, she was practiced in the art of making herself seem more interested in teaching than anything at all. While it was still a valued practice to her, it had lower precedence than putting the weavile on some sort of exhibition for others who dared to try such a thing.
"If you're alright with it that is. I'm not going to force you into doing something you would not want," she added on quickly towards the end.
