Place to place, orphanage to orphanage... from when he was 8, to when he was 14, that was practically Valen's life. It wasn't a bad one, he had to admit, just a bit... tiresome. Wandering from place to place with his father, then running off from orphanage after orphanage, and now he lived here in Fiphele, in some loose sense. The Eevee didn't exactly spend all of his days here -- quite the contrary -- but it was somewhere to come back to. Somewhere to get food, sleep, help out a little, know the other pokemon, but for the occasional new orphan that inevitably came along.
It was, in its own way, somewhere to belong. Even if he was now old enough to be considered as an adult, and could, by all rights, be out of the orphanage.
But, well, he wasn't. And was now quite happily giving some of the other kids -- that was, those who still cared to follow him -- a fair runaround. If anything was his forte over the years, it was most certainly that: darting off, occasionally faking this way or that, skirting around his 'opponents' that were some of the younger ones still in the orphanage. It was open playtime for late in the day, after all, and all of them doubtless had energy to burn... energy that the folks running the orphanage would no doubt want burnt in order to peacefully put them to sleep.
"C'mon, c'mon! Just a bit more!" he half-taunted as he skirted around just out of reach of the young Glameow that lived there at the orphanage. "Orrr... if you want an easier target, you might have one coming along now," Valen chuckled a little, only just barely catching a mildly familiar scent, though it had been some time since their last meeting. Both of them were, naturally, younger then, and he had a general idea that they had similar circumstances... but in the end, their paths were just a little different. They were still wandering, he was still coming back here to occasionally stay. At least, so far as he knew... but whatever might be the case, a familiar face, for him, was never so bad.

Sheila made sure to be true to her mother's promise: she would come back every so often to tell her parents and the folks that were interested about her adventures, and it was honestly a great feeling to be back home. Now that she was traveling, she found herself noticing things back at Fiphele that she hadn't before, and she would consciously compare these details to what she had seen through the weeks. How she had also missed her mother's cooking! And her father's tales, and the spars they have together as well. Ah, there was really no place like home!
One of the places she made sure to visit was the orphanage to hang out with some old friends and perhaps make some new ones. She loved to hear the stories that the children brought with them as well, but she made sure not the pry. Sheila may be nosy, but she knew that she shouldn't be overstepping her boundaries with the little ones, especially because some had come from rather traumatic situations. She was fine with playing with them, and while she didn't have the same boundless energy anymore, she could still keep up with maybe three rounds of tag or something like that.
When she got there, her eyes caught a familiar sight: a flash of silver and pointy ears. She was mildly surprised but not completely, considering that the Eevee was a wanderer that had the penchant for leaving without much of a goodbye. And now he was here again, almost like an apparition...
Those thoughts were interrupted when the Glameow (she presumed to be the Eevee's current playmate) had locked eyes on her and ran towards her with the intent to pounce. She waited for the moment the periwinkle cat leaped, and then she used Quick Attack to easily dodge the younger Pokemon, making the Glameow fall face flat on the ground. Sheila quickly went to her to apologise as she helped her stand. The young one exclaimed that they were totally fine and went on their merry way--to probably chase after someone else. Sheila let out a chuckle as she watched the child go.
"I can't believe you decide to greet me by sending a child to pounce on me, Valen." she said casually as she approached him. The Eevee appeared to have changed very little since their last meeting -- well he may have grown a little larger, but not much. Sheila knew that she had grown taller the past couple of years at the very least. "How are things?"

"I can't believe you'd go as far as cheating against a little kid. Quick Attack, really, Sheila?" Valen smirked in amusement, breathing a little heavily, but not near so much as one might expect from how long he'd been going about this. Sure, he couldn't really be considered a youth any more -- not as such -- but he always kept moving, and kept moving some more, to a point where it was stranger still to see him not moving. Most who knew him, knew that... to varying opinions on it.
"Or is it just that you'd prefer me to be the one pouncing, hm?" he suggested, his now somewhat teasing smirk just serving to widen slightly. Really, he'd probably not changed much, but... well, there was that. Picking up on some of his father's old habits now that he was 'old enough' to.
"'Sides that, though, things are going alright. Still sticking around here, since it's nice and I've got nowhere else to really go anyway. Well, not that I ever particularly have," he mused, albeit a bit dismissively; it had never bothered him before, while he was wandering along with his father, it wasn't about to bother him now.
"Well, besides being an explorer now, at least, so now I've gotta 'work for my food', or something," he grumbled slightly. "How about you? I bet the wandering life's treating you a little better than that, at least," he asked with a curious tilt of his head.

"Cheating? I'm hardly doing such a thing. Fairly sure that child could perform a Quick Attack as well if they reacted fast enough." she retorted, "Besides, I don't feel like getting pounced today." it looked like the Eevee was still in fine shape, but their energy wasn't as boundless as it used to be. It took a moment for her to register what Valen said though. Oh? Oh, was he..? Sheila broke into a giggle. "You? Pounce on me? I'd like to see you try." she mirrored the smirk that Valen was wearing.
She put her claws on her waist, glancing around a little at a familiar sight. Children running around, the orphanage building towering close to the trees that enclosed them. A safe place, she'd like to think. "Ah, still the wanderer, I see." she muttered, wondering what it must be like to be constantly moving from place to place without a definite 'home' to return to. They were different in that regard, for Sheila had a home, where her parents waited for her. She supposed that without a proper place to call home, this was Valen's closest candidate. She was happy about that; she kind of missed the Eevee.
"Wait, you're an explorer too?" she was rather surprised by this, but at the same time figured that it wasn't so surprising after all. If one wandered then they might as well become an explorer so that they could earn money from it (and experience, she supposed. She wondered what kind of Pokemon Valen would evolve into. Would she still recognise him after that? Would he still be the same guy?) "I haven't explored a lot yet, but it's cool so far. Lots of feral Pokemon though. Ick. I never knew that Pokemon were so particular about their territory." she commented.

"Hah... if you say so," the Eevee chuckled. And... that took a moment, did it? Well, he'd supposed it would, given the context... and the time it had been since they'd last met, at which time neither of them were adults yet, and his flirting was a decent bit fewer and far between. Now, though... well, perhaps his father had rubbed off a little too much.
"Better watch your back, then; I'm still small and quick as ever," Valen teased in turn. But never minding that... indeed, the wandering life suited him. Even if it did lead to a slight... lack of real attachment. The kids still liked him, at least... he supposed that was still something.
"C'mon, don't act too surprised. I've been off on my own for 10 years now... seems kinda natural to do more of it, right?" he suggested. "So where'd you go off to, then? And what kinda pokemon?" he asked with a curious tilt of his head; as ever, wanting to know about everything he could. "I've heard about the 'territorial' stuff -- even seen it now and then -- though sometimes that's been... other things," he vaguely spoke, recalling the occasional... spat around his father.
"Was it fun, at least?"
