Sheila had some doubts about this post when she took it from the town hall, and that was what oddly propelled her to take the challenge. Why would a "super strong Craniados" attack them out of the blue? Though when she thought about it, she had never truly encountered feral Pokemon, especially on her own. She largely stayed in her own town for her whole life, and the Pokemon there while rough around the edges were civil enough.
For a Pokemon to attack out of the blue sounded rather terrifying, but she was an explorer! She could handle this, she had to. Otherwise, why would she even bother to go all the way here? Yet still this was her first mission. The Sneasel found herself rather jittery at the thought. There weren't a lot of trees either, just walls and walls of rock. Colorful rock. Her claws were good for scaling but she felt pretty bad whenever she accidentally left markings on the paintings. If it were some other time, perhaps she would've taken some minutes to appreciate the Smeargles' expertise.
But that was for another day. She needed to focus on finding that "super strong Craniados".
As she descended slowly and carefully, Sheila caught the sight of a fleeting shadow. She quickly looked around only to spot something hovering over her.
Lv 10 - Hostile
Oooooh no, not a flying type. She was in a sore disadvantage considering that she wasn't used to cliffs. Wait, was this Pokemon really going to attack her without warning? At that moment the bird let out a loud squawk and dive bombed at her, but slowed at the last moment to show its claws. Sheila growled and swatted the Spearow away with her own sharp ones. "Get away, shoo! What did I do to you?"
"You're in my territory!" the Spearow cried, clearly angry and not in the mood for negotiation.
"Your territory is a wall? How does that even work?" she retorted as she tried to look for some flat ground to be able to fight better and possibly offer a better means of escape. There was a fairly small portion sticking out at her southeast, so when the Spearow flew back to regain its bearings, the Sneasel quickly attempted to descend before jumping towards the platform. To her relief, she landed safely, but the next landing appeared to be quite a ways away. Was there anything she could do to scare the damn bird off? She had no time for this!
The Spearow was clearly not satisfied that its trespasser moved downward. It prepared for another attack, and in that time Sheila realized that she had no choice but to attempt that new move she learned. Ice beats Flying, right? She suddenly remembered her Papa's lessons when she was a child as means for self-defense. Taking in a deep breath, she waited for the moment when the bird would be close enough for a sure hit, and when that time came she released a billow of ice and snow. Clearly the Spearow wasn't expecting it and squawked loudly; its wings temporarily frozen. Clearly it did not want to deal with the Sneasel anymore after realizing its disadvantage and screamed curses as it flew away.
Sheila sighed. Man, feral Pokemon were the worst.

It took a while longer for Sheila to get to another platform that was closer to the ravine. Letting out an exasperated sigh, she decided that it would be good to take a break since it appeared she wasn't anywhere close to where that darn Craniados(?) was. "Isn't it Cranidos?" she muttered aloud, taking out the note again from her small sling bag. Oh, the Shinx must've misspelled it. How funny if she decided to confront the target with the wrong name! She laid down on the hard, warm rock and groaned. Why didn't anyone tell her that dungeons were this large? There didn't seem to be a sign where she needed to go in order to find the target. Was she supposed to just wander until she heard screams?
The Sneasel wondered how the kidnapped Happiny was doing and let her imagination run loose. What if they wanted to run away together? Was he an ex-mate? But a Cranidos and a Happiny was such a weird match, and the scrawl on her request indicated that they were quite young. What were children doing here on their own then? Or maybe that Shinx had poor handwriting? To be fair, they walked on all fours, so...
Her eyes scanned the blue sky and saw many birds circling around and above the canyon. Thankfully none of them seem to want to attack her at this very moment. She had no idea if one of them was the Spearow she just chased off not too long ago. "Okay, I guess that's enough meandering..." she mumbled as she sat up. Was she alone? Were there really no other explorers in this place? She pushed herself to stand and take a look at the river that flowed through the rocks. Wait a minute, was that a glint she saw? Her heartbeat rose in excitement as her energy spiked; she scaled down recklessly until she was in front of the moving waters. There was glinting everywhere! This place was a gold mine! But how was she going to get it? She had no idea how to pan for gold, and her Icy Wind wouldn't work because the river was too damn big. The Sneasel approached the riverbank and tried to put her claws in the water, but she was only met with wetness.
Sheila growled in frustration. To be so close and yet so far! Was there anyone out here that she could ask for help? Surely if there was shiny gold in this river, there would be other Pokemon trying to take it. In the distance she saw a figure of sorts, it was rather small...she squinted but in the daytime, her eyes were no better than any average Pokemon. Whatever it was, it seemed to be inching closer to her direction, and it appeared to be rather irritated that it couldn't get anything in the water.
"Hey, you! This is my turf!" Mincinno Lv 12 - Sort of Hostile
What the--was it really that cute thing talking back at her? "I'm pretty sure you can't own this whole river, little one." she replied, half cautious and half amused. "What are you trying to do anyway? Looking for gold?"
The small Normal type huffed. "Painted Ravine is known for that, obviously. But it seems like the rumours are true -- only the Smeargle tribe here know how to really get the gold."
Sheila's interest was piqued by this new information. "Is that so? Maybe we can team up to find them."
"You? No way! Your kind is as sneaky as a Zorua. I'd rather you leave."
The Sneasel glared, but she preferred to save her energy rather than fight, so she raised her claws up as a sign of surrender. "Okay fine, I'll head in the other direction then."
Who knew that such cute things could be so territorial?

"Zzzzzz..." Cranidos Lv 12 - Asleep
The path Sheila decided to take eventually led to a cave, which felt more at home to the Sneasel because of the darkness. Well, it didn't look completely dark because of natural, glowing rocks, but it was a lot better than walking out under the sunlight aimlessly, so she went in. Not more than a couple of steps in did she encounter the sleeping Cranidos, but there was no Happiny in sight, so she assumed that this wasn't the one she was looking for. Maybe. It wouldn't hurt to take a look around, she supposed, so long as this Pokemon didn't wake up from his slumber...
How far did this cave go anyway? She was half tempted to take at least one of these sparkling rocks, but they didn't appear to be precious enough if they were just there for the taking. Plus, dislodging it could potentially leave to a cave in or something, that was the worst case scenario. Oh but, there was this one here that was already loosened from the wall..."Don't mind if I do." she whispered to herself as she effortlessly plucked the purple rock from its resting place. The walls showed no sign of missing one of its rocks, so the Sneasel let out a small sigh of relief before pocketing the stone in her bag. Another souvenir when she decides to head back home, she thought gleefully.
She actually passed some tolerant Carbink along the way, but they seemed to be cautious of her. That was to be expected since she was a Sneasel -- she was used to this, but it didn't mean that she liked it. Sheila continued to delve deeper into the cave, which at some point had begun forking into different directions. She hoped that she wouldn't get too lost in here, or maybe she should quit while she was ahead? She looked behind her and realised that the walls looked the same. Her mind started to fill with panic. She - she should backtrack while she still had the chance, shouldn't she? Okay, calm down...
Where did those Carbink go? They should be able to tell her where the exit was if she asked nicely. What a pain, what a pain...even the glittering rocks did not ease her anxiety. She continued to make her way through the labyrinth of more walls (this time they were enclosed, which was worse) and rock. Where did all the other Pokemon go? Speak of the devil -- the ground started to shudder a little to her shock, so she quickly stepped away from the source of the tremors. It turned out that there was a Pokemon underneath her, and when it popped out, the first thing it locked eyes on was the small stone that had fallen out of Sheila's bag.
"Thief! Thief!" Drilbur Lv 10 - Hostile
She cursed as the Drilbur shrieked. This was definitely not her day, and it didn't look like she could escape out of this one. Ugh, no choice but to fight.

Sheila wasn't the only one who was exploring the Painted Ravine, or more specifically, searching for the Cranidos that apparently had the Shinx's friend, Happiny with it. After wandering through the outside of the Painted Ravine, Skyler stumbled upon the the cave. While he was a grass and flying type Pokemon who didn't really enter caves too much, he had night vision capabilities due to being nocturnal for the most part. He was a Pokemon that stored energy through photosynthesis throughout the day unless he had some other important business to take care of. Due to this, the avian flew into the dark cave without any hesitation, his vision adjusting to the change until he could see perfectly. There was nothing in the cave to be afraid of. After all, he was an explorer which meant that he could hold his own in battle. Not to mention that he came prepared with some supplies in his little bag he carried around with him, which carried an assortment of things from a few berries to some seeds. He wasn't about to make the same mistake he made from his exploration in the Explorer's Respite. He had one other thing with him, a green crystal which was said to allow a Pokemon to unleash a powerful attack with the cost being a ton of energy to produce said attack. Unfortunately, after seeing this particular mission, he didn't have time to acquire a permit to use the object, which is why he carried it deep within his backpack. If the crystal fell into the wrong hands, especially to the likes of feral Pokemon, he would most certainly be in trouble. It was illegal to use the crystal unless within good reason after all. But here Skyler was, flying through the cave and taking the occasional look at the glittering rocks the cave contained. That is until he heard some type of ruckus going on. Rather than flying in without a plan, the Pokemon decided to watch the scene unfold from a distance. The first thing he saw was a Sneasel who appeared to be carrying a bag with her. "Another explorer?" The Rowlet asked himself, before turning his attention over to the other pokemon, a Drilbur. He came to the conclusion that the Pokemon crying out the word thief was the Drilbur. Was the Sneasel nothing but a thief? Skyler couldn't quite tell just yet... OOC: Skyler reporting for duty! The Drilbur showed no hesitation in launching an attack. Sheila didn't bother wasting her breath to defend herself -- she did technically take one of the rocks from the cave, but it was so minuscule that it seemed negligible. The mole ran towards her with its claws open, so the first thing Sheila did was to dodge the attack while grabbing the small rock. She then pocketed it in her bag for safety -- no way was she going to just let this go considering that this Drilbur did not appear to respond to negotiations. Growling, her opponent decided to slam the ground before swiping some loosened earth right at her face. She wasn't able to dodge this time, and the first thing she felt was a terrible sting in her eyes. Ack, she was blind!
"Serves you right for taking one of the stones of the cavern." it scowled. Sheila kept on rubbing her eyes in an attempt to get this muck off of her, but her vision was still extremely blurry. "So I take it you monopolize this joint?" she responded, "If you're so fixated on your stones, here, take it." she decided that this was worth a shot. She still needed to find the Cranidos. "I'm looking for a Cranidos, know any that might be more hostile than usual?"
"Why should I help you?" it didn't attack but took the stone from her cautiously, thinking that she might attack it instead if it got too close. "And Cranidos are common in these parts. Many are territorial."
"Well, I'm looking for one that has a Happiny with him."
The Drilbur was puzzled. "Why would a Happiny be here?"
"Apparently she was kidnapped."
The mole let out a snort. "So what, I take it you're an explorer? How lowly you are to take something that isn't yours! I might as well report you."
"Hey, there was no sign that said that this was your territory, okay? Cut me some slack." she needed to get back to the river to be able to wash this off completely. Ugh, what a pain. It didn't look like the Drilbur was done talking to her either. Were they just going to continue bickering until one of them left?

Skyler continued to watch the scene unfold from a distance. Although a part of him wanted to sneak past the two Pokemon in order to continue on with his search for the Craniados who kidnapped the Happiny, he knew that he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he did such a lowly thing. Not to mention that Sheila didn't seem to be fighting back against the Drilbur, and even handed the stone back to it! Instead, the Rowlet decided to inch himself closer to the two Pokemon so that he could hear what the two were talking about more clearly. After getting the jist of the situation, the avian finally decided that it would be best if he were to intervene. After all, if the bipedal Pokemon also took on the mission to rescue the Happiny, then it was probably best if he worked with her in order to up their chances of success. "I don't want it to seem like I'm agreeing with this other explorer because I too am one, but if you think about it, I didn't see any signs stating that this was your territory either." Skyler stated, making his presence known. Since he wasn't hidden anymore, he decided to land in between the two Pokemon. "Besides that, she was kind enough to give you your stone back without putting up a fight. Wouldn't you say that would make things even?" He questioned. "I simply think that it would be more efficient to do more important things than arguing over a piece of stone."Did it seem like he was mostly taking his fellow explorer's side? It wasn't his intention at first but after thinking about what he said, it kind of seemed that way. Oh well. What was said couldn't be taken back unless he magically had the power to turn back time. Not to mention that his strong point wasn't in settling disputes between Pokemon. OOC: Oh cool! Glad to know it's readable haha. Words: 322 Tag: sheila

The sudden appearance of a third voice startled her, especially because she still couldn't really see. Who was that? She could see some kind of blurry, flesh-colored thing. Or was that cream? Whatever it was it was lighter than the cave walls, that was for sure. Did it float to where they were? Was it a bat? She didn't know any sort of bat that was coloured like that though.
One thing was clear though: he was an explorer. Thank the heavens! It appeared that she finally found someone that wasn't hostile and could tag along with. At least someone here was logical enough to think things through. She just hoped that the Drilbur would come to his senses and back off, for Arceus' sake.
The mole Pokemon was similarly startled by the appearance of the Rowlet (what was an owl doing in a cave?) but it took a step back, holding the tiny stone in its claws. There were now two of them and were clearly on the same side. Was the owl a thief as well? Two against one sounded like a terrible idea though, and it seemed that they weren't going to steal...but could he trust them? Ah, he supposed he should just go back to digging. He didn't want to risk getting beaten up today. Besides, he had his stone, as the Rowlet said. "I'm only letting you go because I'm in the mood to forgive you. Take one more thing in here, Sneasel, and I'm not going to hold back." with a growl, he buried under the soil and went away.
Sheila sighed in relief, "Man, that was a close one." but her eyes still stung, so she couldn't really see her fellow explorer, "Thanks for helping me get out of that nasty scuffle. Do you happen to know where the exit is? I'd like to get this grime off of my eyes."

The avian couldn't help but feel a little bit proud of how stealthy hew as able to be. Judging by the two Pokemon's reactions, he caught them both by surprise! He was glad that he was able to settle the dispute between the two Pokemon without having to do so by force. Then again, the whole argument seemed silly in his opinion. Were the stones of this cave that important to the Drilbur? Either way, the Pokemon was nice enough to let the Sneasel go with one last warning before burrowing back into the ground to do who knows what. Once he was certain that the feral was gone, the avian turned to face his fellow explorer, inspecting her closely for a few moments. "No problem." Skyler responded, pausing a little bit to take the opportunity to look around at his surroundings to ensure that they weren't going to be forced into a battle with aggressive ferals, before turning his attention back over to the bipedal. "Yes, I do actually. I haven't been in this cave for too long so I believe I can guide you out of here." He stated. At first he was about to travel through the air as he normally did, finding it more comfortable to do so than to walk on foot, but decided against it. The Sneasel was hit by a sand attack after all. He couldn't imagine how difficult it was for her to see. "This way." Skyler moved past Sheila, before stopping in his tracks once more. "Feel free to hold on to me if you find it easier to travel doing so." And then he was off once more, the thought about introducing himself to the explorer not crossing his mind. "No no, your voice is fine. Just keep talking or something." Sheila said as she tried not to keep rubbing her eyes. That was only going to make things more irritating for her to wash it out later or something. Thank Arceus this Pokemon was willing to help her out though. She didn't like being half-blinded but she just kept telling herself that it was going to pass. She'd soon get to the river and get some nice water onto her stinging eyes. Yes.
"What are you doing here, anyway? I can't quite tell what Pokemon you are, but you don't look like a cave dweller." she commented in an effort to keep conversation going. "And you said you were an explorer? Are you looking for something?" how funny would it be that they were on the same quest, but she supposed that wasn't extremely surprising considering that other Pokemon could've seen that note before she did. Maybe they jotted it down somewhere instead of swiping the note from the board. Haha. Should she have just left it there? She didn't really know how the system worked exactly. Well it would come with time she supposed, this was her first official mission after all. Now she just wished they could find the Cranidos and get this done with, but that was easier said than done.
They didn't even know where the Cranidos was exactly -- not a single hint on where they were before the Happiny got swiped from her friend. Maybe she should've asked for more details on where they were before she set out on this. Ugh. This was sounding more and more like a pain. Well, one step at a time. Let's just get out of this cave first, she thought as she clutched her bag strap in irritation and frustration.

Just keep talking? The words continued to flow inside his head. While he wasn't shy, he wasn't the type of Pokemon who talked alot. After all, he was someone who spent most of his hours alone doing simple things like reading a book or just looking up at the sky. The only time he really ever communicated with others was when he had to work with them to succeed in a mission or plan out a strategy. Something like that... Thankfully, a topic soon arrived which made things much easier for him. He could respond to her questions and she would know exactly where he was at all times! "Oh, right." Skyler responded, pausing for a few seconds. "I'm a Rowlet, so your assumption is correct. I am not a cave dweller.""Indeed. I am an explorer. Like you, I am searching for the Cranidos who kidnapped the Happiny." He stated. "My apologies, I was eavesdropping on your conversation with that feral Drilbur. You too are searching for the Happiny, yes?" He asked his newfound companion. He was hoping that since the two of them were on the same mission that they could work together in order to make succeeding an even greater possibility. But before even asking the half-blinded Pokemon if she wanted to work alongside him to do so, the first step was to get her over to the riverbank in order to wash her face. All the avian could do was continue moving through the cave, keeping a close eye on just about everything to ensure they didn't run into trouble. Since he hadn't been in the cave for too long, the route he took to get to Sheila was still fresh in his mind. Before he realized it, he saw the entrance he took to enter. "I believe we made it out." He announced, before being greeted by the sun's harsh rays once more. OOC: N/A Words: 318 Tag: sheila

"A Rowlet? I haven't met one of your kind before." she remarked with curiosity. He didn't appear to be very big, so perhaps he was a Pokemon that could potentially evolve into something larger. To her surprise, it turned out that he was indeed looking for the Cranidos as well. What luck! They were probably perhaps thinking of the same thing: working together was clearly going to be better than going their separate ways. "That's fine, I think we were shouting or something so anyone could've easily eavesdropped on that conversation." she showed a toothy grin, "And yes! Do you happen to have any leads so far?" she asked, automatically assuming that they would be fine with sticking together for the mean time.
Their conversation kept the Sneasel distracted, so when they got out of the cave the light was blinding and unexpected. She let out a small whine as she shielded her eyes before realising they were outside. "Ah, sweet sunshine!" she could see the outline of the flowing river. Sheila didn't waste any time running towards it and washing her face with the cool water. After a couple of splashes, she blinked and found her sight to be promptly restored. The Sneasel sighed in relief as she faced her companion. "Thanks, I wouldn't be able to get out of that cave if it wasn't for you help." she said with genuine gratitude. Ah, so that was how Rowlets looked like? They looked like owls, didn't they?
"So...where do we go from here?"
