Clyde grabbed the parchment from where it was posted, a crudely scribbled job description scrawled across the page. Get rid of a few 'mons who were ganging up on a Caterpie? No problem. Sure, by the wording it sounded like the bug-type meant to provide the mission for an explorer but clearly they had made a wrong turn somewhere. The client probably wanted the two targets, a Dwebble and Charmander, talked to about the situation. That wasn't really Clyde's style though. No harm in roughing the two up- okay maybe yes harm but if he got the job done did it matter?
The sheet of ruffled parchment squeezed behind his claws, the Krokorok turned to head out to his destination. Soft hills blanketed with tall grass, Clyde just a foot above the areas where the plants grew highest. Alright, maybe it would be a bit more difficult than he originally thought if he couldn't actually see the two he was searching for. Did they know that the Caterpie had posted a hit for them? That would add on another challenge. Clyde doubted it though, the bug-type didn't exactly seem... the smartest. But hey, it wasn't like the mission entailed engaging the client, it was supposed to be all anonymous.
But back on track- Clyde didn't think that the Dwebble and Charmander would be aware of their current circumstances. The whole situation seemed terribly juvenile but it was easy work for easy pay. The grass shifted around the Krokorok as he pushed through it, brushing over his striped, mud-coloured scales. He would just have to keep his senses alert. Listen for possibly young-sounding voices, look for movement in other parts of the field, clues towards the whereabouts of the two.
Azrael didn't exactly know what they were watching, but it sure looked amusing! There was a huge Krookadile being all sneaky up on a hill, for what reason? Well, they were about to find out! Besides, they haven't had anything exciting happen in, like, a few days, it was seriously making them all twitchy. Sure, they did sorta have to get supplies for their shop, but they did get a few things, and it's not like Mega Stones sold like Berries in a famine. Loudly crashing through the grass, which definitely wasn't helped by the thumping of their bag with each step, Azrael popped up from the grass, looking all around. "Hey there Krooky! What're you doing? Is it fun, does it involve danger? I don't really like danger but I'm itching for something exciting to happen so I'll take what I get!" With each word Azrael's voice grew louder and higher pitched, they couldn't exactly help it, they were very excited, however, this will definitely alert any Pokemon with ears that something's going on.
There was barely time for Clyde to react before the Zorua noisily announced their presence. Obviously that brewed nothing but contempt in the Krokorok who had been concentrating on his mission and was now distracted by the boisterous dark-type. He turned around, glaring down at the smaller Pokemon with annoyance.
"Don't you have anything better to do kid?" He retorted, crossing his arms in front of his chest as his tail thumped against the ground irritably. "Stick around and all you'll get is a swift thrashing." As he finished, the Krokorok snapped his teeth as if to emphasis his point.
"Nope, I have literally nothing better to do, seriously, it's definitely not fun." Azrael cheerfully said this, and barely reacted to the snap near their face, continuing on whatever they were talking about. "Oh come on, you're not gonna thrash me, I can help, you know? I mean, I'm a Zorua which you can see, unless you're blind. So I'm basically born with good sneaking abilities, which you were obviously doing. So what are going after, thieving, certain Pokemon? There's only a few, like those little Pokemon over there." Azrael carelessly pointed towards the Pokemon that caught their eye, clearly not realizing that the Pokemon in front of them might actually want to know about any Pokemon around.
Clearly the Zorua was not about to give up. Or stop talking. Maybe the best way was to simply let the dark-type help. Clyde could simply just make something up and point him in the wrong direction. Before he had a chance to open his mouth though, Azrael pointed out that they weren't alone. The Krokorok averted his gaze to where the other pointed and sure enough, there was the Dwebble and Charmander who he needed to go after. Of course, they had noticed the two outlaws as well, alerted by Azreal's constant stream of chatter.
Grinding his teeth together, Clyde tried to block out the Zorua and he started heading towards the two small Pokemon. All sharp ends and eyes narrowed with irritation, the Dwebble and Charmander took it as a signal to run from the Krokorok- so they did, bounding through the tall grass.
Azrael smiled, looks like their new pal was going to let them stick around! Chatter usually wore down quiet Pokemon, but never this quickly, what a nice surprise! They crouched down besides the Krokorok as the Pokemon seemed to spot whoever they were after. Still, Azrael almost couldn't stop talking, but thankfully lowered their voice, unfortunately, lowering their voice basically consisted of stage whispering, which could easily still be heard. "So are you after those two...? Why, do the owe you some money, you look like the type, or are you here to give a message? Oh, maybe you're here to get them for something and... Oops, are they running 'cause they heard me or because of you?"
Ok, so maybe they messed up, kinda big-time, considering whatever the Krokorok wanted was now currently hightailing it to the other side of the fields. But you know what they were good at, fixing things! Hopefully, Azrael never actually had to fix anything, it's not like they made mistakes daily. "Don't worry, we'll just catch up, they're super little, it's not like little legs can go faster than our own! See, I am helping aren't I?" Azrael definitely did not mention the fact it almost was certainly their fault this job have just gotten a whole lot harder for the Krokorok they were supposedly "helping". Instead they took off after the two, wishing their own legs weren't just a little longer than the two young Pokemon they were attempting to catch up with.
By this point Clyde was getting a mental headache and he'd be lying if he said the idea of drop-kicking the Zorua wasn't appealing. He tried to focus on the task at hand, simply giving non-committal grunts every few seconds to the other Outlaw's jabbering, pretending that he actually heard the dark-type's words rather than a ceaseless stream of noise.
They were in fact, starting to gain upon the two targets. The Charmander glanced back for a moment and, upon seeing their pursuers, seemed to just get worked up into more of a panic. Hurrying along the Dweeble too, the two reached the top of a hill and than disappeared behind it. The Krokorok grit his teeth and pushed himself, claws digging into the ground to give him a powerful push upwards. He reached the top of that same hill, not bothering to see if Azreal was still in tow and- fell head over tail. Clearly the two small Pokemon were no strangers to playing pranks. A hastily made formation of pebbles caused Clyde to stumble and lose his balance, tumbling down the other side of the slope.
Azrael raced right at the heels of the Krokorok, or at least, they did at first, eventually slowing down. It's not like they're that great at running after all! Unfortunately, they were just close enough that the pebble pile caught them off guard. Seriously, one second they were arriving at the top of the slope, and the next they were tumbling down the exact same slope. However, once they finally stopped rolling and could stand up, they wore a huge smile and even started laughing, that was extremely exciting!
"Nice one! Hey, kiddies, you gotta tell me how you set that up so fast, come on! Just come back and tell me!"
