The golden pelt of the vixen was bright and shiny as the sun cast its rays down on the marketplace below. Pokemon went on about their daily business, some disgruntled and annoyed while others spoke with boisterous voices that rang with joy. Little attention to no attention seemed to be drawn towards her as she half walked half walked along. Her gait was abnormal, as she lacked a proper leg to walk on among the two forelegs as instead a prosthetic had been placed. She had grown used to the struggles that came with this handicap over the years, but still the prosthetic still seemed as if she had just gotten it yesterday. She had become so used to just three legs that the limb just seemed out of place.
It was not uncommon for her to feel as if her paw was still physically there at times, but the prosthetic or stub that remained was a grim reminder that it would not simply come back. In a way, she was kind of glad she had lost that particular paw. It gave her a new goal; a chance of pace in a more figurative and literal sense. That goal was not what brought her to this town, nor was she there to mentally gripe about her leg.
She had with her a bag. This bag was empty, but that was intended to only be temporary. She was here to stock up on supplies for her home. She ran over the list mentally in her head as she tried to figure out which path would be easiest for her to traverse. Where were fewer people? Were there any sales going on today? She had a healthy income, but that did not mean she could spend her money frivolously. The vixen held her head high as her tails kept together in order to avoid the touch of any foul undeserving filth.
Today was quite a busy day, as Winter was over and Spring had taken rise. The hibernating pokemon were wide awake in search of restock for their food. She could spy a particular grouch of an ursaring who seemed to have been about to get a bit grizzly with an unfortunate vendor. She decided not to get involved in that mess as she instead turned away to go another direction.
Unfortunately, fate had a different idea for her. Just as she had turned away, a voice rang out from the very stand that called upon her name. She froze to the spot only briefly before turned around with a pleasant smile, "Yes?" she replied though she knew exactly what she had been called for.
The owner of the stand was one of her staff at the academy. A lonely little smeargle that worked over the weekends as a janitor for part time. She could already tell from the look in his eyes that he was in search of a scapegoat for the wrath of the monster that stood before him. She was called closer to the stand before the situation was explained with a rather frantic tone to the smeargle. Apparently, the smeargle had just sold out of the ursaring's favorite food right in front of him. The ursaring had expected the smeargle to hold the item for him, but the other pokemon had offered a better price.
What did the smeargle expect her to do? Why had he dragged her into this mess?
The smeargle went on to explain that they needed a third opinion on who was right or wrong in this situation. She could understand why the smeargle wanted to have someone else to back him up, but she was almost tempted to say the opposite just to spite him for dragging her into this. Almost.
The vixen took in a deep breath and cleared her throat, "Mister...Ursaring?" she started with a question in order to ask the larger pokemon of his name.
"Ulric." the bear grunted with crossed arms. His talons gripped into his fur with a held back frustration.
"Ulric, yes," Vixx continued, "I'm afraid it's up to the shop keep with how they ultimately deal with their business. While I can't say it's great for customer satisfaction-"
The ursaring unfolded his arms as an angered look came across his expression once more. One large paw curled into a fist and slammed against the wood of the small yet colorful cart the smeargle had put together for his shop. The wood snapped and creaked with the force, as the power of the bear could have easily reduced the wood to a pile of splinters if he so desired. He interrupted Vixx, "I'm HUNGRY!" he declared with a low growl. The eyes of the bear seemed quite bloodshot as if he had a terrible time during the season of hibernation with the simple task of sleep.
The ninetales, rather than being frightened like the smeargle that had fled to a farther distance, instead stood her ground. The hairs of her clean pelt rose as her tails seemed to grow wider, "Calm yourself!" she demanded, "I do not care if you are hungry, there are plenty of other shops around here for you to take your business. Your hunger also does not excuse the need to act so violently as if you were raised by the feral. Nothing does."
The fox's rise to the ursaring only seemed to antagonize him more, as the look on his expression grew darker. The ursaring flexed his claws as dark thoughts of what he could do to shut this old woman's trap up crossed his mind. Instead, he remained still and spoke through gritted teeth, "Hag, this is none of your damn business why are you even here?"
"You two wanted a third opinion did you not?" she responded quickly with her ears pointed forward.
"Still none of your damn business how I act!" he sneered.
"Then I will make it mine."
Tension rose between the two with each exchange of dialogue. This situation had escalated quite quickly, but Vixx was not going to let some overgrown child throw a tantrum in her face and act like it did not happen. The smeargle's plan to use her as a scapegoat had succeeded if that had been the intent, though this situation might have gone a bit farther than he had initially planned...

Today was proving to be a rather beautiful day. It was spring and in this region it meant warm weather rather than the same dreary cool stuff that her homeplace seemed to have twenty-four seven. In her opinion when it was like this, not too warm and not too cold, it was perfect. It also seemed to be pleasantly occupied today with pokemon bustling everywhere. A prime opportunity for her to get her name out there. In fact, it seemed that everyone was heading right off to the marketplace today. Perhaps she could do a bit of shopping and schmoozing at the same time. Wouldn't that be grand? So, with a bright smile on her face and a twinkle in her brown eyes she set off behind a family of granbull right towards the bustling area. She stopped briefly to have a look around before her eyes landed on an old krookodile. The old lady seemed to be having a bit of trouble with loading up some wares into a large bag of hers. That would be her first stop. "Excuse me, miss, do you need help?" With a nod and a quick word of thanks the krookodile accepted her help. Together they bgan to pile in her things until everything was fit nice and snug. Nafretiri was going to offer to carry it for her when she heard the sound of commotion behind her. With wide-blinking eyes she stared at a trio of pokemon that seemed as if they were on the verge of a fight. Back where she came from she might have just watched the scene unfold, let fighting pokemon fight, as it were. But here in the capital things worked a bit different and fights weren't just something that were an every day occurrence. "I'm so sorry, ma'am, but I've gotta help take care of this." Perhaps she should just leave the guards to do it but she was not about to pass an opportunity to get her name out there up! So, swiftly she trotted over to the trio that now seemed to be a duo. Not wanting to get her pretty fur messed up she didn't quite press between them but rather attempted to get their attention by coming up from the side and standing about a foot or so away. A loud caterwaul escaped her throat before she cleared it and attempted to speak to the pair of could-be-brawlers. "I don't mean to interrupt," Except she one-hundred percent did. "But what seems to be the issue here?" She glanced between the ninetales and the ursaring, wondering if this could go peacefully or if the pair were too far gone.

The intensity of the anger in the ursaring's expression rivaled the force of Vixx's sheer stubbornness to backing down from the overgrown child she had been presented with. She may have been old, but she had put up with far worse. She had no intention of some intense combat in the middle of a town, but she was not afraid to put some grouch in his place if he were to lash out. The two's concentration on the many ways they could destroy one another was shattered as a feline cry reached their ears.
The vixen's ears perked before the one closest to the liepard swiveled towards the dark type to acknowledge them. She did not dare look away until the Ursaring was the one to break the staring contest. The tension dissipated only slightly with the approach of a third party...or rather fourth since Vixx WAS the third party that had been dragged into this mess. A liepard had intervened in the building conflict Vixx had gotten mixed up in. She was prepared to clear her throat and speak up herself to answer the question of the liepard, but it seemed as if the bear had something more urgent that it felt it needed to say.
"The issue here is that nosey little pests keep bugging into my business!" the ursaring folded its arms, claws extended that displayed themselves ever so nicely against his own brown fur.
Vixx's fur began to rise slightly as she was simply abhorred with how this Ursaring had acted. Why, if he were to speak this way within the walls of her own territory she would have had him thrown out as soon as possible, do it herself if she had to. Her many tails already seemed to be twice their size as she struggled to keep them from simply thrashing about. Instead, she sat down. She was an adult, she knew how to act in these situations.
"This...Ursaring-" Vixx struggled slightly as she had already forgotten the bear's name.
"Ulric!" the bear sneered as if offended.
"Ulric," she corrected herself, "He was upset with a shopkeep for selling the last of his favorite food to another customer. I seem to have been roped into the situation and he is being less than kind and reasonable to be quite honest." She explained to the stranger. She had just as much of an image to upkeep as the liepard, though she was unaware of the liepard's willingness being due to the desire of a positive public image.
Vixx was in public, she needed to keep herself controlled. It would not do for it to be plastered all over the papers that she had assaulted some innocent civilian. The fiasco with her leg was already a big hassle. The media tended to be quite unforgiving towards those in high places. While she was not a politician, she was closely associated with Indria, who had quite a strange rise as of late to Vixx's surprise.
While the ninetales did not particularly know why the leafeon had ran off to join the politicians and leaders, she was proud of the grass type. She did not want to be any sort of reason for any trouble brought towards her little Indria.
"I'm being perfectly reasonable!" the bear snorted again, the claws dug into his own arms slightly.
"You nearly crushed the stand," the ninetales spoke with a calm yet firm tone as she countered his argument.
"Did not!" he snorted before finally the liepard was given the opportunity to speak.

Ears pricked, eyes attentive, she listened to both of their stories though with the bickering --especially from the ursaring's side-- she felt as if these were hardly more than adult children. She fought back a sigh as they went back and forth at each other, not giving her a chance to get anything in edgewise. The benefit of this though, it gave her a chance to decide on the best course of action to take. Should she just pay the bear-like pokemon and hope he was happy with the compensation and wandered on? Surely he was grumpy because of a bad winter hibernation? Maybe he was just taking his frustrations out on every else? Still doesn't give him a right to be a prick... When it was her turn to speak the liepard had sufficiently mulled it over and tried to use all of the diplomatic skills she'd ever picked up from being a princess in her old kingdom. "Mister Ulfric, I don't mean to be one of those 'nosey little pests' but please, hear me out. I'm sorry that your favorite is all sold out but is there any way that you could be compensated? Is the food sold anywhere else around here where you could buy it?" Surely it would be reasonable to assume that someone else could sell the same thing? If not and it was some sort of rarity she could certainly understand his... disappointment but it was no reason to be ready to rip someone's head off. "If not perhaps some other sort of compromise could be made? Perhaps the shopkeep would be interested in reserving your food for later if you pay them a bit now? At the very least allow me to buy you something elsewhere if it absolutely cannot be gotten." She glanced around, wondering if the store owner was around here somewhere, she'd forgotten what sort of pokemon he was but hopefully he was interested in helping keep this beast placated. "Surely one of these ideas seems perfectly reasonable?" After all, since he'd said that he himself was a "perfectly reasonable" pokemon then one of these ideas must be appealing? Unless he wanted to lose face in front of everyone by proving that he indeed was not what he was said he was.

The liepard took her chance to speak, but it seemed as if she had already upset the grown child that stood beside Vixx within the first breath. She could practically feel the tension tighten yet again as the liepard's words left her jaws. The lips of the bear curled back as he at the very least allowed the dark type to finish speaking before he decided to unleash his words of wrath yet again.
"We can start with a compromise by getting my name right! It's UL-RIC, not ULF-RIC. Spell it with me now, U. L. R. I. C!" the bear unfolded its arms to point down at the feline that had managed to accidentally feed an endless blaze even more than before.
Vixx held her tongue, though her expression failed to hide exactly what she may have thought at that moment. She was not at all interested in hiding it in the first place. She had improved upon her skill to produce false smiles over the many years she had been alive, but she was not particularly keen on upkeeping her maintenance towards this particular normal type.
Instead, she was more interested in the kind soul that had decided to try and settle this debate. Honestly, the Liepard had probably saved her from a rather unfortunate day. There was no doubt that the bear would have attacked. She had no interest in combat, though she would not have hesitated to neutralize the threat with a Hypnosis if she needed to. She had everything under control, she totally would not have gotten her tails handed to her on a silver platter!
At the very least, after his burst to correct his name the bear seemed to have calmed down slightly. Vixx began to ponder the thought that maybe Arceus was real if this bear had decided to tone his temper down at least a little. The ursaring crossed his limbs once more and gave a snort. He paused slightly as he actually took the time to consider the liepard's words, "Yes..." he spoke with a hint of restrained guilt to his tone before he continued, "B-but this stand had the best of the best! He should have known I was coming, I ALWAYS come after the winters!" he sneered.
Vixx decided to keep her little snout shut at the current moment in time. Who knew? Maybe she'd have an opportunity to slip away, though at the moment that was not quite an option her morals would allow. Leave the perfectly reasonable liepard to this dangerous bear? Pah! She would not mind a scar or two. She already lost a leg and lived with it, what would this Ursaring do...other than bring an end to her life altogether.

Right off the bat she'd insulted him, getting his name wrong and setting his rage off all the more. Ulric. Ulfric. Ulmic. Who gives a crap? She smartly kept this thought to herself, simply putting on an apologetic front. "Ulric, yes yes, my apologies. Mister Ulric." The fact of the matter was that he was still being a gigantic baby about this whole situation. Suck it up. Eat something else. Or, do everyone else a favor and just get lost. Oh how she wanted to say these things but she knew better, it would only escalate the situation and make everything ten times worse than it already was. Inwardly she heaved a sigh, willing herself to have all of the patience of the Ancestors to deal with this unruly one. With that out of the way she waited, brows inclined, as the bear chewed on her words. Would he listen or would this come down to blows? In the end it seemed that he allowed himself to be placated though not without one last complaint. The liepard measured her words and then spoke out once again, "Oh yes, I have no doubt that this stand has very good food but have you tried others? Surely with the endless array of shops here there must be someone that, at the very least, comes close, yes?" Just because he was used to coming here didn't mean that he couldn't go somewhere else to get something similar. He just had to --ahem-- suck it up and be an adult about the entire situation and not behave like a petulant child! Really, it was surprising that some pokemon could even function by themselves. "As for you always coming... I'm sure he was aware but what if someone offered him a better deal? I'm sure it pained him dearly to undercut a faithful customer but it would be bad business to turn away a 'mon that's offering a higher price. You wouldn't want him to lose out, would you?" More sensible logic spoken in her calm melodic voice. She hoped it would be enough to keep him seeing sense, maybe this could have a happy ending after all. "Perhaps some sort of official arrangement could be worked out for next time so that you aren't left without your favorite food and the owner doesn't lose out. Is that not fair, Mister Ulric?"

The ninetales allowed her own rising tension to simmer down as she the bear and the feline spoke to one another. The feline spoke with reason and rhyme, while the bear only seemed to be interested in being in the right in some way...at least in the eyes of the vixen. The fox curled her tails around her paws lightly as she seated herself on her haunches. Ulric had the sense to listen to the words of the liepard, the bear snorted as his claws dug into his arms rather than submit to the urge to dig them into the vulpine and feline forms before him.
"No..." he at the least admitted when the Liepard had asked if the ursaring had wanted the shopkeep to miss out on such a deal. The way the normal type acted and reacted heavily reminded Vixx of a small and young pokemon who had yet to see much of the world. She began to wonder if the ursaring was younger than he appeared, but she was not about to ask. She knew all too well that the request for an age could be about as rude as spitting in someone's face.
The ursaring considered the words of the liepard further before he seemed to finally submit with shoulders that sunk in defeat, "Yeah...just make an official arrangement..." Though the way he spoke of it, it seemed as if he had thought of it as his own idea rather than the liepard's. Vixx watched with a softer set of eyes that lacked the earlier challenge they did before as the bear seemed to loosen up and give way to the liepard's influence.
"Where did he go though?" the ursaring began to look around as if he had not even noticed the smeargle's departure.
"He had to leave I believe. I'm sure he'll be back tomorrow, though," Vixx butted in. She had seen the other normal type run off, but she was not quite aware of where exactly herself. The bear nodded once more. Vixx likely would have made a comment or two towards the liepard, but she was not going to do so in front of this easily angered monster, just in case she had said a wrong word or two that would spark a whole new argument.
