He didn't know exactly who or what could be responsible for naming the creatures of this world, it's probably a question better left unanswered. But the name of the titular beast confounded every figment of his cunning, as the bird threw his wing beneath his helmeted dome as if to somehow scratch at it beneath all that plate and battered steel. Type: Null, his mind breathed every syllable of the confounding word. What sort of 'mon on this earth would be called such a thing? But it wasn't anything subject to his concern beyond his initial pondering, the funny fact of their naming was moreso just something that piqued his intrigue and retained his barbaric wits for a second's breadth. They at-least had themselves a proper name, not quite the calling he'd give them, but something that chimed better than however it was he was supposed to pronounce that thing aloud. A winded sigh, and the bird's wing returned to his side. Apparently this beast had a master – whomever they were, they seemed fine with sicking it on any feral thing wandering amok. It likely wasn't even that bad of a plan - he's all for giving someone the right to quarrel with anything that may happen upon their path, but the way this amalgamate went about deducing friend from foe could really go for some work. Though who is he to judge? He just clobbered a poor fellow who too must have thought this null-thing to be a feral. Whatever the case, at-least they were somewhat talkative.
“Invictus huh?”He began. “I can't really say I've been there, I'd rather stick to the places I have at-least have a clue about. So you're right about one thing, you're really a faraways from home – wherever that place is supposed to be."
“Call me Oscar.” A briefest pause followed between his words, as nigh-dismissive eyes darted amok before making their rounds to the Null's curious stare. “...just another private from the Militia around Fiphele, and as you can see for yourself we've got a problem with those ferals up here. I'm only here because honestly, I have nothing much better to do. But since you've got yourself somekinda master, whomever they may be, then why he'd send you all the way over here on your lonesome?”
“ Because frankly if you're going to keep mistaking people for ferals, you're going to wind up insulting someone much, much meaner than our leafy buddy.”

Kala found herself confused once again by what the skarmory had said. Long ways away? She could have sworn she was just on the outskirts of the territory. The null was even more confused when the bird appeared to have never heard of it before. What? How could that be? Everyone she had met knew of the capital. It was not because of the sheer history behind the capital that she found herself to be surprised, but because she had never considered the idea that someone might simply not have heard of it.
"We're not too far though?" she spoke up, "We are merely on the boundaries of it. I was sent out by my trainer that my master had hired, not my master herself. She instructed me to listen to them and they told me to seek out ferals. When I said I was 'quite far' I did not mean as far as you seem to think. This is the farthest I've ever strayed, but only because I was told that I would be able to train out here far better than in the city. I was sent out here because I was told this was where the ferals were located."
She paused for a moment, "But...I am confused. The 'leafy buddy' had stated to me that they were feral. How would I insult someone for asking if they were feral?" Her head tilted slightly as her mind tried to piece together why anyone would be upset. It was just a question, why was it a big deal if all they had to do was say 'No'?

A large, dry gulp traveled down his chords as he adhered to the mutt's word. Apparently, and much to his furrowing dismay, the more they exchanged their idle banter the more his wits drew to the abundant conclusion that he has was the sorry one who was lost here. How he happened to trail all the way to boundaries of invictus from his northern home was any shred of his comprehension, but it was a bewilderment he voiced through a weighted huff and a horror that nearly sunk his eyes in onto themselves. But just as he was swift to bicker and babble, a few seconds' breadth was all he needed to straighten his lurching form and collect what hurried words he intended to spew.
“I don't think it's about insulting someon- “ He spoke up, quickly correcting himself thereafter upon coming to the conclusion he'd probably wind up confusing this fellow again. “I mean no, it's not an insult. There's just a certain type of people out there who are so fond of their pride that even implying they might be a feral would be enough to anger them.”
The Skarmory's words slurred into a stutter, beholding the hollow eyes beneath the null's mask before averting his gaze to the brush below him. “I-I mean I don't care what you call me, I'm not going to rag on you for thinking I was a feral because I get that too often to even count.” The change in subject came abrupt, the stammering devoid from his breath. “So...you're just here all alone, right?”
“If you need to have a trainer and a master, then they've got to have plenty of trust in you to send you off into the wilderness like this.” He breathed, taking but a inching step forward. “I'm not trying to take any jab at you, but uh, you're fine on your lonesome right? I don't know how much you can handle yourself – I can only about take one of them before I'm dogged out, but I'd really like for you to tell me before I just leave you here.”

The stutters of the skarmory had indeed confused her further. She wanted to continue to inquire for clarification on their words, but they had changed the subject rather quickly. It was successful in a complete diversion of her mind as she listened to the metal bird's words closely. The skarmory had wondered if she was alright here on her own, if she could handle herself. What had really caught her attention, however, was the suggestion that her master and her trainer had trusted her out here. Her eyes lit up beneath the helm, "Really?" she breathed. She would never have thought of it like that! She had simply thought that this was a typical training session. Was this really a bigger test than she thought? The truth of the matter is no, it was not like that. The trainer despised the null that he had to train. If anything, he simply wanted to get the null out of his hair. If she died in the process, then oops guess she should not have wandered off. Nobody else really knew that she was out here. "I guess if they trust me, then yes I should be fine," she spoke up after her short interruption, "They wouldn't send me into straight into any real danger unless my mistress's life was on the line," so she believed. The null looked the bird up and down, she would have asked the same for him, but seeing as how he handled that leavanny just fine she would have assumed that he held the same answer. It seemed as if the skarmory wanted to leave though. She was mildly disappointed. All anger towards the skarmory for the theft of "her" feral had vanished as it was long forgotten. Heck, she had even forgotten the leavanny was still around, just either dead or unconscious on the ground. Her mind was focused on how easy that skarmory must have taken down the grass type. Hmm... "Oscar, was it?" she spoke up suddenly, "Do you think we could spar one day? I don't think right now would be a good time, but I'd like to learn a bit from you in the future if that's alright?"ooc; Looks like this one's wrapping up~ tag: Oscar,

The better half of his wits knew little as to what this beastly thing was capable of, and other, regrettably more vocal half of him wanted nothing else than to find out. They were at-least keen enough as to not immediately rip him apart for taking their game, granted they came awfully close to mistaking him for another cretin but that was far from his point. They were smart, no different than the average 'mon, they were smart enough to request a match from him and that was about the extent of wits he'd ever concern himself with. In other words, it's probably for the best he'd quit treating them with same neglect and caution as the ferals who wander these woods. But the way they blurted from beneath their helm; the almost whimsical glee that shined in their otherwise precarious circumstance would be alarming to any 'mon including him. The warrior as a whole seemed to shrink behind an anxious facade before ultimately gathering his scattered bearings, speaking clear and in a steadfast ramble. “Guess I'll have to take the initiative, and give you a day, date and all of that.” He seemed dismissive, eyes fluttering abound as they constantly veered and bounced from the Null to the marsh trails ahead. “There's plenty things I could show you, but I'm not too exact on how they'd translate to someone who tramples around on four legs. Couldn't be bothered to inquire about where my trainer learned them; so most of it's a couple things I'd picked up from spending too much of years watching other people fighting and sparring than actually getting off my rear to join in their fun.” “I'm not gonna ask if your trainer could teach if you – I don't think throwing someone out into the wilderness is the best way to train a hound but that doesn't mean I'd be against proving myself wrong.” The Bird's gaze briefly locked upon the route he came, trailing it's winding gravel before setting upon the looming entry to this cavernous canopy. “Give it until the end of this week, then I'll follow the same route that's lead me here.” He breathed a sigh. “Depends where you'd be up for this, because these forests are about the extent I've ever been to Invictus' mainland and whatever big townes I've heard of down there.”

The null watched the steel bird's eyes seem to flit about to and fro. To her glee, he seemed to be accepting! She listened as the bird informed her that there was plenty of things she could be shown, but demonstration might prove to be a difficult hurdle for them to overcome. Well, there would be no harm in an attempt! The skarmory had disagreed with her trainer's methods. She was not sure just how valid that opinion was, but she had no idea how to defend it or argue against it. The skarmory gave her a time, along with a place...or rather 'general' place.
She thought for a brief moment in some way to think of a solution for said problem. She could say that they could just come back here, but then they would have the issue of finding the exact spot. There could have been plenty of areas around here just like this place.
"We could try to meet up here again," she mused as she began to look around their area in general. There was no particular natural landmark for them to go off of. Her eyes landed on the tree. She could make a landmark. She stepped over to the trunk and rose herself onto her hind legs. The talons on her front claws hooked onto the tree bark before she began to pull down, akin to a cat with a scratching post. She marked the tree with scratches that tore away at the dark brown and revealed the lighter skinned wood beneath it before she spoke, "We can just look for this tree again if we get lost. We'd probably eventually find each other just looking for it if we couldn't find it....right?"
She actually had no idea whether this plan would work or not. It was honestly a bit silly, as it might have been close to picking out a needle in a haystack, but she seemed pretty proud of it. She didn't know if the skarmory was the type to get lost, but odds were that she would get herself lost far sooner than the Skarmory did.

That works.
He sincerely expected half an answer from them. Something along the lines of “I don't know”, or “around here or there”. Anything that could have easily been twisted into a lead-in for his fretting machinations to pedal back from a match with a beast his pride just well doomed himself to. Sure it was going to be nothing but a sparring match, a quarrel with a foreign creature whom very well could be some abomination by the likes of how alien they seemed. The second they spoke their answer was when droves of doubt flushed over him, but lacking the sociable boldness to derail the entire conversation. The callous warrior had no other an option that to swallow his efforts, and hope his pride wouldn't falter him.
Surely if they had suggested it he could've carved a better landmark then a couple scars on a tree. He's tried woodworking before. Carving a couple ornaments in what moments of downtime he could snag into ornaments the likes who's rough crudeness would only be matched by an infant, but that doesn't demean the fact he's at-least semi-acquainted with chiseling into shape. But even if they had happened to ask him, it's doubtful he'd even step up from wherever he stood.
The bird simply eyed them, rather the deep, rugged marks they cleaved into the tree's bark. Like a kit with knives they simply gouged into it. Not the most perturbing thing his the world, but enough to elicit the raising of his gazing brow.
“Yeah..” A pause proceeded his word, shrugging his wings in that indifferent motion once more. “Give it a week, same time of day. And if it just so happens I'm bot being hounded around again, then I'll try to make it here. I don't know what your trainer, or owner – whomever keeps care of you would think about you suddenly being trained a thing or two by a bitter stranger from around Fiphele.” He caught himself rambling off, clearing his tongue and accentuating his voice as he continued again. “Though I'm pretty sure anybody with their wits wouldn't take too well to someone assuming things behind their back, so I'm not going to bother over that question.”
“Just-” He loosed a breath.
“Whether or not you're going to tell them, I'll leave it to someone who actually knows them. Trust me I've upset my own share of trainers in my days, but I reckon you'd probably fair better than somebody as loud-beaked as me.”

Kala was oblivious to the strange gaze she was given by the skarmory after her crude marks on the tree were made. She seated her hind legs on the ground as she listened to the skarmory closely. Oscar had rambled on slightly, but she paid it no mind. She was fully comfortable with being the one to listen rather than speak. Sometimes she was not even to speak a word if she wanted to, though this most often happened when he particularly annoyed Indria with her vast amount of questions or dimwitted statements. The normal type was likely going to tell her trainer, but odds were that the trainer was not going to care in the slightest. Improvement in Kala's combat performance was about as quick as a slowpoke noticing that their tail had been removed. Kala nodded as she spoke, "I look forward to it!" before nothing more left her mouth. She had figured that it was time for her to head home as well, or perhaps she should stalk around a bit longer and see who else she could find? Well, she did have a sparring partner now it seemed. Well, what she would call a sparring partner. Did that mean she did not have to go and hunt the ferals anymore or...? Ah, she'd just go back and ask. There was certainly no harm in that! ooc// ten thousand years later and a post has arrived Oscar,

A slow and a tad stubborn “Right.” slipped from the skarmory's beak. It was a mach set in stone at this point – and whether he'd make it to the quarrel was at the leniency of his duties. They looked chipper, probably enticed by the notion of facing anything than the ferals their trainer must have sicked them on. There was empathy for them, if somewhat clouded by how peculiar they were themselves. Quarreling with the same vacuous beings for day after day was something more likely to drive someone bored and lifeless than actually endangering the sorry sod tasked with cleaning the beasts up. It's arguable whether or not an intelligible opponent was more dangerous than something that ravaged without repercussions, but regardless it was a welcomed change of pace, and ultimately better for honing one's prowess.
He glanced them for a final time, glimpsing those beady eyes glaring upon him through their iron helm. With a huff, and a parting word, the skarmory's talons dug into the marshy earth as he went upon his way.
“You too.”
