Tanis knew approximately how far away the rock protrusion was, in comparison to Ross, whom voiced his displeasure in having to perform more strenuous activities so soon after having a Treecko on his shoulders just a few seconds prior. In spite of this, both of the small fries kept a good pace away from the stampeding formation of dust that, while it wasn't quite behind them and chasing them, it was behind them enough to categorize them as chasing them. Originally, Tanis took the lead and led them both in the direction they needed to go. This continued until the rain that threatened to come in and wash them all away, figuratively speaking, begun to show signs of approach, with a few droplets coming from the blackened sky that was coated in clouds by now! All it took was one solitary drop of water to slow Tanis enough that Ross overtook him in their run. Him leading would continue until they reached the rock protrusion. During which time, Tanis' actions were a little more... Erratic and automatic. Gone were the otherwise confident strides of his running, and was replaced with a running equivalent of flailing wildly. His speed of his run changed dependent solely on how far away Ross was in front of him, slower when he was closest, and faster when he was further away. He also begun to veer more to the right as opposed to straight, correcting himself only when he realized he wasn't going in the same core direction as Ross was.
Even as the pair reached the rock, Tanis felt more panicked and out of breath as Ross was. With his obvious use of Quick Attacks and the showcase of his mobility and a bit of dexterity to boot, it would be easy to imagine that a run of that magnitude, while still exhausting, wouldn't affect him as much as it likely would've affected Ross: Proven to be more strength based than agility. By the time the pair arrived at the rock, the rain had become a little more prominent and a sure thing than a minute prior. Rain drops were constantly becoming a little more frequent with each passing second. Tanis had been forced to acknowledge it and the effect that it had on the flora around them. Each drop formed on the grass around them like trying to empty the last drop of your drink from a flask. The teardrop shape, the mirror-like quality, the... hostility... Merely being anywhere near this was more than enough to make Tanis' skin crawl. The fact his said skin was slowly getting matted with the tears of the clouds, it was becoming too much for his consciousness: His hearing had turned into nothing more than a whistling noise, his vision was spiralling out of his control, and that combination wasn't doing much good for his stomach either. Akin to tree leaves helpless on a branch in a windy day, his body felt weak, as if a single gust of wind was enough to topple him over and knock him out.
Ross said... Something, that Tanis didn't hear a word of. If it wasn't for the fact he was nearby, he wouldn't have even realized he said something. Nonetheless, he seemed to be diverting around the rock that Tanis correctly presumed was for shelter. Moreover, he assumed it was for shelter, because that was what he hoped was the reason. Like a self-walking doll, Tanis followed Ross until he discovered the mouth entrance into the rock itself. The initial pathway led downwards, which indicated that it was an underground dwelling of some description. The cave showed some signs of wear and tear from multiple use and changes to the ecosystem as time has progressed. Nonetheless, the cave proved to have a 'roof' and it was more than suitable to easily accommodate one-hundred Tanis'. As Ross begun his inner debate to himself as to whether he wanted to go into the cave or not, Tanis shared no such hesitation. Quite literally, he dived into the cave without even considering that it may belong to someone. To him, getting out of the rain was much more important to him than... Well.. Anything else for that matter! He ran into the cave, taking approximately a dozen steps before tripping over something his unfocused and twisting vision couldn't see. Finally he skidded to a stop a few feet from where he tripped, planted face-first on the rocky outcrop and his body falling limp behind him post-skid.
Safe!
For all intents and purposes, Tanis doesn't assist in Ross' decision to enter the cave of his own volition. Much like the dilemma that he faced in trying to pick between two bad things, and hoping to pick one he was content with, Tanis had the simple fact in being within the worst situation he could possibly have been in, both with an option to make things better for himself. It all boils down to fears at the end of it all. Ross was debating whether to enter a place that he was afraid of, whereas Tanis was already facing his fears prior. Or precisely, he was suffering when faced against it and is now no closer to resolved it than he was before the rain begun to set in. Even after having skidded into the cave, with no more rain coating him or the real immediate area besides outside the cave's entrance, his body and mind were far from recovered from his spectacle. Shivering and shaking as his heart-rate reached a state it hadn't done since the last time he was faced with water to contend with, which was a while ago. His breathing labored and his eyes closed in an attempt to stop his queasy feeling from just how unfocused they were, he remained lay and prone in the position he skidded to, quite content to remain exactly like that until some other need desired his attention. It hadn't at that particular moment, so that's where he remained.
Even after Ross opted to enter the cave, Tanis remained lay on the ground, having not budged at all aside from his heavy breathing and occasional random noise or grunt that indicated he was still awake, somehow. Ever so slowly, his body began to dry out and the rain that had coated him slipped over his body and dripped onto the ground, an equally unsettling feeling that he wished he never felt. With it passed though, as time progressed, he begun to return to his regular self. His heart slowly dipped back down to a more sensible rate of beating, and his breathing became more steady as a result. His hearing numbed and reverted from whistling to vague noise hearing that slowly begun to reform back to normalcy as each second passed. His sight remained unknown, as he kept his eyes shut. In fact, it wasn't until he finally heard the tail-end of the discussion from the two anomalies, that he finally showed signs of life again.
His eyes shifted open upon hearing their voices. He couldn't quite make out what was being said specifically. But he could at least tell that it was a conversation between two... Things, that wasn't Ross. His vision, while not quite back to normal, he felt was enough to utilize again. With a valiant effort, he begun to rise from his lay position into a sat one. He immediately regretted doing so, as his body ached and complained to the fact as his muscles tried to react, but his brain was reminding him why it was hurting him so much. With how he was feeling, he was somewhat glad that he hadn't eaten anything for a couple of hours, otherwise it wouldn't have remained inside him for much longer. The twisting feeling and the general sickness he continued to feel in his stomach continued and followed through to the rest of his body, still feeling generally weakened and lacking energy. This was going to take him a bit more...
Any conversation that anyone could overhear, let alone from the pair that Ross has been overhearing, was eclipsed by the sudden rush and sound of a stampede and loud bellowing passing by overhead. A clear running rush of at least half a dozen Pokémon that sound quite big and definitely seem like nothing or nobody was going to get in their way, lest they got mowed down. Though unclear, what was apparent was the Pokémon involved appeared to be mostly Tauros, stampeding because they either got scared of the thunder and lightning, the rain, or some other third reason that nobody but them actually know about. Regardless of the reason, all of them sped past the rock and the underground cave that everyone was in with noise that easily dulled out every single noise that would be made around them. This continued long into the distance, where even after fifteen seconds, they could still be heard, albeit vaguely. They most certainly weren't stopping for any reason, and more likely, trampling over a Sableye and a Treecko would be the last thing they would concern themselves with. The resulting stampede had shook the underground where everyone resided, and a few flecks of rocks crumbled from the ceiling as it strained over the new-found pressure that was the stampede. Beyond that, the walls and ceiling held fast and showed no further sign of crumbling or toppling.
It had most certainly kept the pair's conversations short, having only started up again only once the stampede was out of earshot.
"So what's our next move after this? Painted Ravine?"
"Pai-... Are you KIDDING me?!? We barely got out of there, what with that Smeargle chasing us away and those headbutting Cranidos... We only took that route because we needed an alternate route to Invictus, remember? The White Dawn patrol?"
It was at this point in their conversation that Tanis finally emerged from near the cave entrance, and actually joined Ross a little further in. At that point, the rain had truly begun and had started pooling slowly at the entrance. That didn't appeal any more to Tanis than anything this cave could do to him, hence why he finally moved. He still felt incredibly weak and sluggish, and it showed as he held onto his stomach and the pain in his face showed discomfort. He had used the wall opposite to the wall Ross used as a seat to keep himself straight, but not to keep him upright. Unlike what Ross said prior to entering the cave, or the previous conversation the two unhknowns had, this time he caught the majority of it. Not that listening into the conversation actually gave him any actual idea of understanding what was being said. He'd never heard of anywhere called Painted Ravine, and he had no idea what 'White Dawn' is. Whatever any of that was, they seemed to be oblivious to the fact that both Ross and himself were in the cave with them, especially considering how loud they were being.
"Point made... Still, this stuff must be worth something! Pretty sure the boss wouldn't send us to get them otherwise."
"You're telling me. Who would even want something like this anyway? I mean, what even is one of these things?"
Busy playing the pronoun game! Of course! Despite being loud about their plans, they didn't seem to be doing too much otherwise. Tanis didn't feel a need to get involved with whatever it was they were discussing, or intervening. After all, they weren't bothering him, so why should he bother them? In a mimic to Ross, Tanis took the opportunity to try and get himself a little more comfortable on the cavern floor and slowly suffer with his ailments. Unlike his compatriot, Tanis, and Treecko's in general, are not exactly known as cave-dwellers. Not only does he likely stick out like a sore thumb compared with Ross, but his senses are not exactly as keen in here than out in the foliage of the wilds. He has eyes, and he can roughly see what's around him, but he can't tell at all what is further inside the cave. With no real visible light that he could immediately see down there his eyes can't pick up anything whatsoever. All he has to rely on is his hearing... With their current conversation apparently over, that's no longer helping now. Just a small Treecko in a large cavern!
What a wonderful life!
Still, it's a relief to the grass type that nothing as of yet had occurred prior to enter the cave, which benefitted him greatly: Any time he could use in order to assist his recovery will be of use to him... Maybe he should've scavenged for items before the Oddish battle. He honestly didn't think he'd be pushed this far just by him wandering around like this. Just what had he wandered himself into? It's almost like no end of trouble follows him wherever he goes.
