"Nafretiri Kivalis, Fiphele representative."
It was a rather unassuming sign, simple, yet it got the point across with a drawing of her own smiling face and the rather simple text explaining who she was. Perhaps when she had more influence she could get even fancier signs but as for right now this would have to do. The timburr who'd briefed her on what was going on stood before her as he handed her a few signs that she would be able to tack up on her own. This would be a piece of cake, just go up and about and let others see how good she was doing. Not to mention they might get curious and want to read what she putting down as well as ask her questions. She shivered in her fur, pleased at the prospect of the exposure she was likely to get. So, without further adieu she grabbed the load of campaign signs in her mouth and set off on her way.
One thing that hadn't occurred to the purple cat when she'd agreed to take on the mission was the fact that her body wasn't exactly made for putting up signs, nor was she properly equipped to carry the unwieldy signs around in just her maw. It was becoming increasingly more difficult until she finally had to take a break by dropping them on the earth next to a shop selling berries. Perhaps this would be a good spot to place one while she regained her breath? She gingerly grabbed up one of the objects and began then task of getting the post that it was attached to stuck into the earth. After a good few minutes the job was done and she resumed her minor break.
Once rested she picked up her cargo once more and continued on her way stopping here and there to leave a piece of her political propaganda. Every little bit counted and this better account for a lot with how annoying it was getting the things to stay in her mouth without poking anyone with a post and without dropping them. The things she did for power...
Aha! At last, Invictus! Bustling with Pokemon, busy Pokemon who strode with a purpose-- all with places to be and a world to conquer. Boy, he really liked this country, he really did. The energy in the capital was so infectious! It almost made him want to tap dance down the marketplace. Not that there was space and nor did he have a top-hat and a cane to strut down the streets right now. Instead, the one-foot Cubone marched up and down and all around countless vendors and alleys until he felt a little rumble in his stomach. Gleefully, he laughed and sniffed his way around a corner toward some berries--
Bump. Ow, ow, ow. That hurt his head. Oh wait, no please no, not the head! His bone skull helmet! Please don't have a crack, please don't have another crack. Noooooooo-- But not that he could check in broad daylight. No, dear Arceus, he would never show his fugly face to anyone. He massaged his skull and felt the crevices. Nope, looks like everything was still intact, still okay.
Yet when he looked up, he could see nothing but a sign and its shadow. Forward, there was just four furry legs and a swishing tail... he jumped back and immediately apologized. "Sorry! Didn't mean to. Really didn't mean to. And hi! But sorry, yeah yeah, super sorry." Dammit, he sounded so stupid. Unnr just couldn't talk, ugh. How could he be expected to "words" when he was hungry? He had traveled so far for the longest time, and he had been so distracted by the bedazzling capital. "Just didn't you, and I know I'm small. But I'm strong! I'm small and short but strong, super strong. Oh wait, you can't talk, can you. With those things in your mouth, I mean, the signs. Do you need help? I can help. I can totally help." Unnr wished he could just shut up. The more he opened the mouth, the more dumb he sounded. Just throw him out with the trash where he belonged. Urk, he had to fix this somehow, make a better impression, he sounded so pathetic. He hoped this other Pokemon wasn't angry with him, pray to Arceus, he didn't want trouble already.

There was she, just walking along with her tail raised high in that classic question-mark shape while the pale piece of moonstone bounced jauntily against her chest. If only the signs weren't so heavy, if only she had arms to actually carry them around in. It was so difficult not to bump into anyone, it was so difficult to see anything so when the time came that her luck ran out and she finally bumped into someone --or they bumped into her, details, details-- she let out a grunt and barely was able to keep a hold on the signs grasped precariously betwixt her fangs. She heard him before she saw him and to see him she had to angle her head to the side, tilting the awkward signs in one direction while she peeked out with one brown eye. What she saw was a rather small cubone, a cute little fellow with a mouth that was running a mile a minute with apologies. Part of her wanted to glare because he'd impeded her progress but the other half knew that this would be a poor move on her part. They were out in public and she had probably been at just as much fault as him. That wouldn't do for her reputation to be snapping at poor little cubones, now would it? Certainly they would see her name on the sign and see that it was she, a Fiphelian, that was living up to her dark nature by jumping down some poor resident's throat.
So with a smile, or as much of a smile as she could give around the posters, the liepard attempted to make amends. "Ah, n', n', wush m'faul'. Can'see nuth'fin 'round these--" Ah gee, that wasn't working too well now was it? Ugh, stupid things! With an annoyed snort the liepard lowered her head and sat the signs on the ground. For a few moments she opened and closed her mouth, working the sore muscle after having had it clamped down on her posters. Eyes then returned to the pokemon, now she was able to look at him full on without having to work her head around and maneuver with the signage in her mouth. "Ah, much better. As I was saying, it's fine, friend, no apology needed. It's my fault 'cause I could hardly see a thing around those signs. Please forgive me." She dipped her head politely before continuing. "As for your offer... are you sure you'd want to help? I don't want to force you to do anything, these signs are awful big and heavy even for a-ah, strong cubone like yourself." But he would certainly have an easier time with carrying them than she would with his arms and hands. Pfft, she should have picked up a little pokemon like him to be her campaign assistant long ago but for sake of appearances she wouldn't force him to do it.
Even if she felt like he owed her after bumping into her.

She was soooo... nice! Awh, Unnr felt even worse. Sure, the Cubone had been lucky to bump into a courteous Pokemon like her, yet this Liepard was above and beyond in grace and kindness. She carried herself with such impressive charisma, ahhhh she had even smiled at him. How long ago had it been since somebody actually looked into his eyes and did that? Actually willingly gave him time of day? Everybody he had met on the way to the capital had been so unsociable, even to the extent that he'd call it mean. Few conversations, and even fewer friendly ones. His cheeks reddened with bashfulness, and he was absurdly relieved that he had his skull helmet to hide his happy nervousness. Get it together, Unnr. Get it together. Have a normal conversation with another living Pokemon, you can do this. Breathe in, breathe out. Speak slowly, speak deliberately, speak less, maybe don't even speak at all. Be natural, Unnr. Be natural!
"Hi. My name is Unnr. I'm a Cubone. You already knew that, haha. I'm weird, but you're nice. I'm super sorry, this is coming out all wrong. Let me help? Yes, I can help. I can totally help. My name is Unnr, by the way, a Cubone. Really dependable." He wanted to curry some favor at least. Even if this Liepard probably found him annoying (who didn't?), he had to do his best for bumping into her right? She looked like a busy sort of Pokemon, the very air of her character seemed to give him that impression. And he had the audacity to bump into her and interfere on her way-- the Cubone waddled forward and picked up the signs. Heavy, yes. He knew his arms would ache later, and he couldn't imagine how the Liepard could hold so much in her mouth. Thinking about the strength necessary put the image of her snapping someone's spine in his head, but she would never do that! She seemed so kind and gentle and just wow... just wow...
"Please let me help, uh uh uh?" He stumbled without her name. And with the signs picked up, it was going to be a little difficult to walk without bumping into someone, he could barely see the ground in front of him. Uh oh, he hoped he hadn't bit off more than he could chew-- but the Liepard had even called him her friend, her godforsaken friend, ugh Unnr wanted to roll over and die. If he messed this up--

Cubone always seemed like such a hard pokemon to read, mostly due to those thick bone skulls on their heads, but this one she could just practically feel the joy from him. She didn't know whether to be happy that someone was so excitable or wary. Regardless at this point in time his enthusiasm would be most welcome, especially if he would put it to use to help with her signs.
His words, when they came, were said to her in an endless enthusiastic stream. One where he repeated himself and complimented her and insulted himself but managed to get an introduction out. To be honest, she was a bit overwhelmed as she tried to repeat his words in her head. Unnr, the name. Help, yes. He would help. Good. Uhm, what else? Cubone? Duh, she knew that but she didn't allow that smile to falter from her face nor did her brown eyes betray anything besides a friendliness, the one thing she liked to try to project to all. "You're awful kind but I'm no nicer than any other pokemon, I think. But if you believe that then I must return the compliment, I don't think you're weird at all." Pfft, yeah right. He was practically just a ball of awkward rolled into a one-foot tall dinosaur but that didn't matter in the grand scheme of things. To her what mattered was whether he could keep a grasp on the signs and make her job a bit easier by making it nonexistent.
Now with his consent she didn't attempt to bar him from picking up the signs and simply stepped to the side to allow him easier access to her mess of campaign boards. "Nafretiri. Representative of Fiphele. It is a pleasure to meet you Unnr, you are doing me a great favor and I very much appreciate it." She watched as the little fellow gathered up the signs while she lifted a paw, licked it, and dragged it across her face to smooth any fur that might have been ruffled in her little escapade. She had to be looking her best at all times if she wanted the others to have their very best impression of her.
She glanced back, making sure that he was ready to go before she set off. Perhaps she could walk in front slowly to make sure that no one would bump into him. It was the least she could do if he would be shouldering over half of the campaigning burden. "Come on, Unnr, there's just a few more places we'll need to stop off and deposit these signs. I hope you don't mind me saying so but maybe I could offer something in exchange for your help. Would lunch after our hard work be an acceptable thing?" "Our" hard work, a liberal term, but the liepard could very well do with food after dealing with all this nonsense. Maybe her little "friend" could as well, and what was more, it would only cement what a "good" and "upstanding" politician she was to treat the little guys.
Here was the problem. If he spoke up, he'd say something stupid. And, in particular, if he spoke up about any difficulty carrying the signs, then the Liepard wouldn't been able to talk anymore with these boards and posters between her jaws. So he'd brave through it, who cared if his arms hurt later? So Unnr walked slowly and carefully, a little sad that he would not be able to see her as she walked because of the boards hindering his view. Unnr had heard that eye contact and close proximity with another Pokemon facilitated the deepening of kinship-- and the Cubone was inclined to believe it, simply because he wanted to, regardless of any science. With all his heart, he hoped that the two of them could be real friends. The idea of somebody calling him one just made his heart wiggle inside. The Liepard had just reassured him that he wasn't weird, and that made Unnr really bubbly happy inside, even if he was too insecure to believe that she was telling the truth. In his eyes, Unnr thought that the Liepard lying about that just proved her gentle kindliness. The Liepard just seemed like an innately good Pokemon, and the Cubone felt especially lucky to have bumped into her first in the capital. And even more so, Unnr was very much relieved that they only had a few places to post these advertisements or whatever they were up-- not that he actually knew what they were because he had been using his bone skull head for support along with his hands.
"Nafretiri! Ahhh, what a beau--" What, what, what. Representative of Fiphele? Okay, Unnr was not smart by any means, barely educated and barely literate. But he was nervous beyond measure. Wasn't that some sort of country or other? Oh Arceus, who had he bumped into? Oh the stars, how bad of an impression had he made. Didn't Pokemon make their initial judgements of each other within 15 seconds? How could he screw things up so badly! Dumbo Unnr, dumbo dumbo."Ah, a representative. I see, I see! That's cool! Super cool. Yes, I do see." Kidding, he didn't see anything over the boards. But he was very glad the Liepard couldn't see any of his facial expression while he carried her signs. So many emotions, he didn't have the time to re-assess the situation properly and conduct himself with professional comportment. Not that he ever did or was able to. Stupid Unnr. So stupid Unnr. You're the stupidest, Unnr.
But then!! Ahhhh, ahhhh, ahhhh! The Liepard asked him out to ~lunch~. "Wah bah lala yeah bah yup, absolutely. Please or sure?" Oh, c'mon Unnr. Get yourself together. "I mean, if you want to, it'd be my honor. You might be busy, I totally understand. Don't let me interfere with your day, you're so kind. You're really so kind. I'm not sure you know, but you're really, really kind, and I really appreciate the offer, and I would like to."
Unnr felt like a fool, and there was no way that the Liepard didn't think him the part. "As in, I would like to eat lunch with you, yes."

On they went with Nafretiri scouting out ahead, looking for prime places to place her postage. Keen brown eyes located a spot a couple of yards ahead that seemed to be a good spot for it was out in the open where others would easily be able to see it. Now there was just the matter of getting there without any incident. She glanced back to her companion, noting how he seemed little more than a walking cluster of signs with brown legs. Poor fellow, ah well, he'd volunteered and there was no way that she was going to turn down the offer. Besides, he was just proving how dedicated and "dependable" he was. Even now despite the heavy signs he still tried to talk and be an amiable pokemon and though she had already turned her eyes back in front of her one ear remained flicked backwards to better hear what he was saying. Despite how awkwardly and tirelessly he seemed to ramble on... he was polite and seemingly sweet. Genuine. That was another word that came to her. "It is a satisfying and fulfilling job, I think. I don't know about 'cool', necessarily." She said thoughtfully, just making idle conversation with the fellow.
She could hear him then, blubbering and stuttering about her sudden offer for lunch. A chuckle sounded in her throat that was accompanied by a swift smile that she flashed at him. "Good! I'm glad you've accepted. I promise I don't have much to do outside of sign posting today so you needn't worry about my schedule, Unnr." So a definite "yes", there would be food and socializing. It had been too long in this new place where she'd not gotten to actually make any connections. Today she would remedy this and hopefully be firmly set on her path to be a well-known politician.
The liepard drew to a halt as her voice sounded towards the cubone. "Here! We'll leave a sign here." She announced to hopefully give him time to stop. Swiftly she turned to grab one of the signs from him so that she could tamp the post into the ground. Within a few moments her propaganda piece was proudly put on display. After looking at it for a few moments the liepard waved a paw for them to continue, "Alright, let's go, only a few more pieces to put up. You're doing an excellent job!" Gotta keep the self-esteem up, didn't want him to get frustrated and quit on her now did she? Not that she thought he would do so.
The liepard lead them on their way once more, turning down a corner with shops lined down one side. "What do you do? You said my job was 'really cool', certainly you must have something just as 'cool'?" Perhaps if she didn't have something to do she could give him something. Listening to his polite --and flattering-- rambling was more than worth it for an errand runner. She was always in the business of giving pokemon that wanted work something to do.
He was a really lucky Cubone. Even as he clumsily waddled, Unnr could tell that the Liepard was leading the way, guiding him so that he wouldn't bump into anything or anyone. And the way her purr was so silky and smooth? That made him feel safe. So he insisted, "Well, I think all the Pokemon here really appreciate you and all your work! You're so humble, but that makes you even cooler." He tried to nod his head vigorously as a show of enthusiasm, yet that didn't go so well with the boards still leaning against his skull helmet for extra support. Again, which he was really glad that he was carrying because he was so giddily happy to use to someone. To be able to eat lunch with someone? It made his soul cry inside, it'd be so long since he'd been able to share a meal and some time with another Pokemon. But not that he'd ever admit that he was lonely to anyone-- when he didn't have any friends, at least he had always held onto his pride.
When Nafretiri halted, Unnr promptly stopped, waiting as the Liepard unloaded a sign. As she did, Unnr finally took the time to read the what he had been carrying with limited literacy abilities he had. "Oh! You look really pret-- professional here. Absolutely impressive, really impressive." Unnr wanted to die, lowkey wanted to die. Maybe highkey. Yes, highkey wanted to die. Ugh, he raised the signs again and hid his flushed pink face. "Ahhh, good signs, really good signs. Definitely going to bring in the votes. You have my vote, yes you do," Unnr babbled, directing the conversation to safer topic. He just couldn't think straight, and everything that came out of his mouth was so stupid. It just didn't help that the Liepard was praising him so much, the little one-foot Cubone just wanted to squeal! But that would be so embarrassing...
Ack, ack, then the Liepard actually showed interest in him, actually asked about him and what he did. Oh Arceus, Unnr was so taken aback by this kind conversation, this rare invitation to speak for himself, that he struggled to speak-- was that new, really?-- and instead almost gurgled. "I'm an Explorer! I'm really new, but I'm trying my best... and I'm going to make some friends and form a team one day! That's why I came here to Invictus. To prepare myself with items and goods, to check out the missions. But really, my dream is to transfer to the army division when I'm even stronger and bigger! Hahaha, you know, me and my late growth spurt. Ahhhhh, I'm talking too much, way too much. Do you have any dreams? Or are you happy as you are?" Unnr bounced up and down, his tail thrumming against the street. He chose a good conversation topic, didn't he. Yay Unnr!

Humble? And still with the "cool" thing? The liepard could feel her grin becoming deeper as she pondered over his words. Ah, the compliments, she shouldn't let them go to her head but dang if it wasn't hard to do so! She'd never thought of herself as "humble" but if a complete stranger thought it true... Then again, he seemed to be rather nervous so who was to say that she wasn't just saying so because she was the only pokemon that had been "nice" to him. Hmm... Nah! The former was definitely true, Nafretiri was humble and all of the other nice adjectives that he used for her. It would be the reason she won a majority of the votes and favor from the citizens of this place, they would fall in love with her sweet personality and bask in the rays of kindness that she exuded. They would all see! As for now her head lifted just a tiny bit higher and her tail began to sway gently from side to side, obviously she was pleased at what he was saying, even if she vocally didn't say it out loud.
She could hear him once more remarking on the drawing of her countenance saying that it was... what? Pretty... Professional? Sure, she had to admit that it was. She flashed him a toothy grin, "Why thank-you. I told them to capture my best side and I suppose they succeeded, eh?" He shifted the signs up to hide his face once more, shielding himself from her view and only leaving his voice for her to go by. "Ah! How kind of you! I do hope everyone else will think the same as you or at the very least that the read my signs. I want to show everyone that they can count on me to represent them well. I do wonder if I'm going about it the best way. Signs are one thing but perhaps I should get out there and do... something..." Her voice trailed off as if she were thinking when really she was casting a line out there. She wondered if Unnr had any ideas or any opinions from the commoners that she could use to help real in even more 'mons. She had his vote, yes, but she needed more. Not that she wasn't satisfied with his guarantee! Quite the contrary, that was all she wanted! Though getting to know him a bit wouldn't hurt. Who knew? Perhaps he would show something to her besides his never-ending compliments, compliments that she absolutely loved to soak up.
The cubone went on to tell her a little more about himself, that he was an Explorer and wanted to set up his own team. Perhaps the army? Hmm, interesting. A fighter then, was he? One couldn't expect to dungeon crawl if they didn't know how to hold their own. Eyes flashed with interest as she briefly looked back at him before coming to a stop as she surveyed a storefront that sold nesting materials. "An Explorer? That can be a very dangerous occupation but rewarding, I hear. You'll certainly get lots of experience for the army if you keep at it... And perhaps it'll help you with that growth spurt too." She turned and gave him a playful half-smirk before she selected another sign to place near the front of the store. Perfect! Then, she turned to him as the thought over his question. "Dreams? Hmm..." She dreamed of rising to power, of taking over and ruling as a queen but she doubted that was suitable for everyday prattle with a near-stranger. So she settled on something safer, "I dream of becoming a great politician. I'd love nothing more than to gain votes and influence and be able to help Invictus as well as my people back in Fiphele." It was somewhat true. She did want to gain influence so that she could send aid back to her home country and help the good 'mons of Invictus... but it was mostly so that she could gain recognition and tie back in to the whole power thing. But whatever, what she wanted would help all: Nafretiri would get her power and the people would get help and be happy. A win-win situation for all, no?
She waved a paw and once again, set off with the cubone hopefully in tow to find the next place to visit. Whether she wanted to admit it to herself or not she was actually coming to enjoy having the little fellow tailing her. He wasn't an official assistant but she couldn't help but imagine that he was her little volunteer who helped with tasks and helped while away the hours with good conversation.
The Unnr wanted to bash his skull into the boards and die. How could he impress her more? Just a newbie explorer? Urgh, he shouldn't even be walking the same streets as her. Someone so distinguish, someone with political clout and charismatic power. Honestly, he couldn't even believe that the Liepard was actually willing to spend time eating with him, this stupid, strucken Cubone, instead of some corporate head or special interest group leader. He was sure that she had so many more cooler Pokemon to hang out with-- connections and circles in a world he would never be able to breach into. Ah, as soon as Nafretiri found out how pathetic he was, Unnr was sure that her smile would turn into a sneer-- then she'd shake her head and leave. Just like everyone else did.
He'd have to make sure that he was of use to her. Some way, any way. And of course, he meant what he said when he complimented her. He really did, but if the compliments made her smile, if they made her happy, he would babble on in all of his stupidity. Even if she was sure to forget about him by midnight, he would one day pick up his pieces and become someone powerful. Then, he'd stand next to her on equal footing, and he might not be so much of a pity party. Maybe they could even be friends. Maybe she could believe him when he told her that she was pretty-- that it wasn't all for show, that it wasn't all some elaborate ploy to curry favor with a politician. "Yes, they really did capture a good side! But nothing's better than your beauty in person! We will definitely all vote for you, I'm sure. You showing me so much kindness when I have nothing to offer you-- people will definitely see how great you are! You're really, really great! I swear! I'm not lying, nope, not me."
He shook his head vigorously, raising his voice and picking up his pace as he had stumbled about with the signboards. How could he show so much enthusiasm that Nafretiri would believe him without a doubt? How could he communicate how strongly he appreciated her and how much he looked up to her? "I think you're wonderful! If people could just hear you speak, if they could just know you for you in the flesh-- they'd love you, absolutely love you! I'll tell all my friends. Just let me know how I can help-- in any way I can. It might not be much, but you know I'm dependable, right? And I'll never let you down. Nope, never, not me." Yeah right, Unnr had already told a pathetic half-lie. How could he tell all of his friends if he didn't even have any. Whatever, whatever, brush it off.
The Liepard struck down another signpost near a store, and Unnr felt the burden lift from his tiring arms. Now, he waddled faster and held the signs higher, as if a show of his strength (hah, completely unimpressive). He could now watch her purr amusedly and look ahead, following the eyes of the Liepard who shifted with natural grace as she strode. "I think your dream is beautiful," Unnr said with finality, trying to look her square in the eyes with a stubborn seriousness, but turned away immediately afterard, drowning in his insecurities behind the boards that hid his face once again.

Beauty in person? Ah, first it was her humbleness and kindness and now it was her beauty? Well, he was correct. Wasn't that what her name promised anyway? Beauty? She was glad that he could note such a thing. Not only that... but he went on to say that he had nothing to offer her. Oh, contraire, my bone-masked friend. You have so much to offer. She could feel the purr rising in her throat as she laid out options in her mind, things that he could do that would benefit them both. "Oh, Unnr, you are offering me your own kindness and conversation in turn. Don't feel as if you're not giving me a thing." She paused then, briefly allowing a silence to build before she went on. "But... there are other things that you could also offer. Things that could be beneficial to us both." He was an explorer, no? Maybe she could get in on those exploration cuts and in turn back him up. She'd get free publicity and good exposure for putting her lot in with a rookie team while he would be able to pool resources from whatever she could offer. 'Mons, food, housing, whatever a team needed really. Perhaps if he went out enough he could get stronger and maybe even he could be her own personal guard. Ah, a gal could dream, couldn't she? He wasn't much now, no, but everyone had to start somewhere. "I have an idea, Unnr. At lunch, perhaps I could outline it to you?" Phrased in a question but whether he said yes or no she still planned to lay it on thick when they took their brook from sign postage which by the looks of the dwindling collection shouldn't take too much longer.
The cubone took her subtle invitation for a suggestion seriously and gave the suggestion, layered in compliments, that she should just talk to people. She hummed to herself, musical tones lifting into the air as she mulled over his words. "So, just getting myself out there, you think? Just talking to others and letting them know what I am all about? You feel as if that would help cash in some votes?" Yes, yes, she believed that would work. It was her plan anyway but to have it confirmed with this fellow only strengthed her resolve to do such a thing. "You have such a way with words, Unnr. Yes, I do believe you are quite dependable and it seems you have a few good ideas as well. It's a wonder why you haven't been sponsored by another politician. Someone that has aspirations for making a team and going into the army, why, it would only make sense for a higher-up to want to help you for that day that you do make it big. Everyone needs the help when they can get it." A hint. A baited line. She was fishing for answers for she wanted to be doubly sure for when she pitched an idea his way that he would be able to take it. All signs pointed to "yes" that he would be thrilled to take her up on any offer but it never hurt to be safe. It was the politician in her, wanting to check all angles and sides before she threw herself out there and made herself vulnerable.
Another stop, and another sign was grabbed as this time she decided to place it adjacent to a little piplup fountain. Just a couple more and they could call it quits. Ah, she would look forward to when they did. All this running around was making her a little more than a bit peckish. His words found her ears once more while his eyes met her own briefly before he looked away. What a shy fellow. Had she ever been like that as a child? Nervous, too shy too make contact with others? If she had she couldn't remember it. Perhaps it was being born royalty, a shy ruler was one that would hardly make a good leader. Or so she'd been taught. "Thank-you, Unnr, that is very kind of you to say." Genuine. A genuine compliment from her that wasn't just to butter him up or seem like a person of elevated character. There was just something about the way he blubbered on that showed just how honest he was being. In the world she lived in one had to be careful about what they said and who they became attached to. It was all too easy to become stabbed in the back if you were too kind. This cubone had probably never had to deal with such a thing. With the normal citizens it was easy to be an honest individual, you didn't have to weigh your words and only put out what couldn't be saved for a later date to turn an entire crowd against you.
The liepard blinked, turning to look in front of them to sort of square with a series of shops. It was a few yards away but seemed a good a place as any to place the last couple of signs. "There, we'll head there and place down these last ones." She flashed him a cheeky grin though with how he was hiding his face she was unsure if he would notice it. "Well, I guess we're almost done with the leg work. Better hurry though, take too long and I might find a place to eat without you." She let out a small chuckle before leading the way, closing the distance to the square where they'd deposit the last of their cargo.
As the Liepard purred, Unnr pursed his lips nervously. Her praise made him shift uncomfortably, for Unnr was so happy that he was unused to it. "Other things?" he mumbled, curious yet so overwhelmed with emotions. Things had been so hard recently, and then this stroke of luck kicked him off balance. Was there any catch? Couldn't be, he wouldn't be worth it. Nafretiri was the first Pokemon to ever believe in him. and even if it was a lie, he wanted to believe it. The Liepard was the type of Pokemon who could make Unnr believe in things like that-- because, for the first time ever, there was somebody who was both confident and charismatic believing in him. And that gave Unnr the courage to believe in himself, even if for just a moment. "If you need anything done, I'll get it done for you," Unnr squeaked. How high-pitched that sounded almost made him sound like a shy girl, so he decidedly reasserted himself. "If you want help, you can count on me. I'll really try my best."
He was excited about lunch. Of course, he fidgeted nervously thinking about what he could say or whether he should say anything at all-- or what she would say, and what he might say in return. But even he knew that he couldn't prepare his responses in his head, even if he took a mid-way bathroom break, because the Liepard had a way of unhinging him-- he was just so struck by her qualities that Unnr just looked up to her naturally. And usually, that would annoy him. Craning his neck to see something bigger, something brighter that cast him into the shadow. But Nefretiri wasn't like that. She wasn't haughty but her words hung in the air. She made an impression on Pokemon. She just did. "Absolutely! Lunch? Dinner? Breakfast? Anytime, yes, yes, anytime," Unnr babbled. "You just tell me when you're not busy, and I will make the time!" Woo, even Unnr thought that sounded pretty impressive of himself. Good job, Unnr. Good job. Good line--
Garbage. He belonged in the garbage. Take him out with the trash. Unnr bonked his head against a sign, grinning behind it and biting his tongue to restrain his giddiness. Nafretiri had called him "dependable." Bonk. Nafretiri had purred that he, Unnr, had a few "good ideas." Bonk. "It's a wonder why you haven't been sponsored by another politician." Bonk, bonk, bonk. Ouch, he shouldn't hurt the sign. Or damage his head.
But as if he wasn't already light-headed already! Wahhh, he just wanted to curl up into a ball and cry for five minutes. "Yes, taking to the stage and charming people in conversation will definitely cash in votes for you! You'll win so easily! Super, super easily!" He felt to moved by the Liepard's words; he just wished he could move her to. He wanted her to believe in her own greatness. If only they could switch souls for a moment-- so that Liepard could see how amazing she was to him.
The Liepard halted once more and pegged down a propaganda sign around some fountain. Pfttt, as if those words could ever communicate how purrrrfect Nafretiri was in person. Here was a politician who actually cared-- even cared about him! Him, Unnr, the lowest of the low! Who had literally nothing, despite how she kindly refuted that for the sake of his own self-esteem. But honestly? Just being able to be in her presence seemed such an ego-booster to him. Ahhhh, Unnr seem so out of it that the tiredness of his arms seemed so inconsequential. He hoped that she had more, that she might need to post more signs later-- "Must be kinda hard putting up the signs all by yourself before! You just tell me, and I will come help you. I mean, you don't need my help, nah, never ever did need my help, you're your own strong, independent, powerful Pokemon! But, you know," he dragged one of his feet in a circle nervously. "'Everyone needs the help when they can get it.'" Oh Arceus, who did he think he was, quoting Nafretiri back at herself. Stupid, silly Unnr.
And then, wait what? Hurrying? Her finding a place to eat without him? Unnr scadoodled and skedaddled after the four-pawed feline. "Oh! I'm super fast, really fast. Believe me, zoom, zoom. That's me. It's a wonder that I don't have wings." But secretly? He felt like he was on high when he was with her. Afloat, where nothing could touch him, where nothing could tear him down. Ah, so that's what happiness was.

And there he'd said it. If she needed anything done then he would do it, how lovely, exactly what she wanted. Dependable he was proving to be indeed. Of course, words were just words until they'd been tested but she planned to do just that and see if he could but his bone club where his mouth was. No doubt he would keep his word and prove to be trustworthy not just in words but action as well. "Excellent, just what I needed to hear." What task could she even think of first? What even would be a good one to do first? Despite all of her talk and big thoughts she'd never actually had her own errand-runner-assisant-cubone-whatevensortofstaffwouldshecallhim-guy before. Supposed she would just have to play this by ear and to go with her instincts on whatever she needed done at the time.
Words were spoken from the liepard, mostly mused to herself as she listened to him assenting to meeting up for other times as well. They could use lunch --or dinner or breakfast, or whathaveyou-- times to meet and plan dungeon escapades and get her free publicity with the "common folk"... it would also be fun to just talk with someone who wasn't going to judge her and measure every word because of who she was. "Well fantastic, today will be good and perhaps we can arrange another meeting later on this week." She could hear the banging of the signs behind her, the clunking and clattering against his bone skull and briefly she wondered if she should take them away so that he didn't brain himself. Though he had the skull on his head for a reason, right? He should be alright though she did glance backwards once to make sure he hadn't collapsed from the blows but nope, he was still right there toddling faithfully along behind her.
Unnr told her about her charming nature and how easily she would cast in the votes, she couldn't be so sure but appreciated him all the same. It was a rough business, the one she was in, and talking and being charming would carry her along for sure. If he wasn't proof of it she didn't know what would be! However, there were other nuances that she had even yet to dabble in. Charming and being seen was only half of the battle, the other half would possibly be a bit more nitty-gritty. "Oh, I'm not doing them all by myself. A crew of timburr put some up on the other side of the marketplace but I just offered to give them a helping paw to do the rest but I bit off a bit more than I could chew." That's what she got for trying to take the initiative and attempt to look good --er, ahem-- do good work around town. She turned to look at him keenly though when he quoted her own line back at her. There was a twinkle in her eye as she managed a small laugh. "Why, yes, yes we do. If you don't mind I'd always be glad to take your help. I don't exactly have a staff of my own so anything that needs doing I kind of have to do myself." She didn't have the influence of some of the more powerful voices in Invictus but eventually she knew she would get there and once she did, those that had helped her to get there would get their cut. A liepard always paid their dues. "There's always more signs that can be made and always more errands to be run around town." And supplies and things to be run in dungeons.
He hurried his pace along as they closed in on the last spot in their grand sign journey. The liepard rushed to him and grabbed first one that she placed on side of the street and then the other which she placed at the opposite end facing the other direction. Done! Absolutely thrilled she turned to smile at the cubone triumphantly, "And that, my friend, is that! Excellent work! Couldn't have done it without you!" Or... She could have but it would have taken ten times longer and her jaws would probably be cramping up by now. "Since you were such an excellent sign holder and conversation partner I'll let you choose where we eat for lunch. Pick a place, any place and I'll follow you there." She said trotting over to stand before him with tail coming up to curl contently over her back. Hopefully her generosity wouldn't make him collapse right then and there from embarrassment. From her brief time with him she was able to tell that he was a bit of a nervous talker and a kind, cute fellow but now that there weren't any signs or chores keeping them apart she could study him properly and glean exactly who she was dealing with and about to adopt into her political fold.
Briefly in a moment of distraction she reached down with her nose to prod at her side where luckily the leather bag she'd shouldered this morning was still sitting there. Couldn't pay a bill without her money present but with this she should have everything covered.

Was he being too forward? How could he impress her less with flattery and more with genuity? Was Unnr being too calculating or too little-- actually, did he ever calculate anything, nah he was a bonehead, a birdbrain. Was he talking too much or was this enough to show his enthusiasm?
His jaw promptly dropped when the Liepard invited him to a meal the next week. He fidgeted nervously just at the thought but pushed away his anxieties to focus on the present. "Yes, today will be great!" So Unnr straightened his spine and picked up his pace, puffing out his chest-- "Absolutely fantastic, count on me. I've got your back, yes I do." He toddled faithfully behind her, carrying the last sign higher with both hands. Of course, they ached; he caught himself breathing a little too raggedly. Repressing his breath, he inhaled in and out of his nose as to not betray the tiredness of his arms to the Liepard. Especially after she mentioned... some Timburr. Timburr were so-- what was the word, he fumbled, he fumbled-- overrated? All that hype about their muscles, but those pink bulbous protrusions were so repulsively bulging. Unnr decided then that he was not a fan of such Pokemon, but it was funny because he hadn't had such a particular dislike for them before. "Ah, I see, I see. Timburr," he mouthed slowly, a little quietly. All, of course, strange-sounding, as if an unusually deliberate comment formed with thought-- despite Unnr being the rambling fool he was.
"Well, you just call on me, and I'll get it done. Staff? I'll be your club. Wait, wait, wait. Ahhhhhh, that sounds violent. Bad joke, bad joke. Sorry, tried to be clever. I swear, I'm smart. It's just, today's just. Off." She probably understood, he didn't need to explain. He just felt so much need to justify himself and fight his insecurities, even though that made things worse. "Yeah, off. Sorry. But-- yeah, I can be a part of your staff! I mean, if you want someone. I mean, if you want me to help. I mean, I'm available if you're searching. Signs, any grunt work. I'm dependable." And he held the sign higher, as if to prove the point. It was ludicrous really. This one-foot Cubone hoisting up the propaganda, as if some show of strength. As the Liepard finished off the last of their work, the Cubone hid his face with his arm for a moment-- like he was scrubbing something out of his eye. But actually, he was biding time. Shoot, how do I talk? In-person, face-to-face? Without the board? Do I look up? Even if my neck hurts from craning too long? Do I look down? Is that rude and impolite, or even a sign of cowardice? Noooo, I hate eye contact, but I have to-- I need to show confidence, right? Ugh, ugh, ugh.
Then he heard her. Couldn't have it without you, couldn't have it without you. And Unnr beamed. His eyes shone. His pride swelled in a moment of ego-bursting jubilance. He could hear her purrs echo in her head, resound in his skull as if implanting itself as an important memory. "Me choose? Me? Oh, me." He blushed crimson and squinted at the sidewalk, blubbering and smiling sheepishly-- so pleased with himself that he felt unhinged. "Ahhh, me... I want to eat... wherever you want to eat. What's your favorite food? I like food. All food, any food. Let's eat what you like to eat!" Because in truth, he had no idea about Invictus, him being a newcomer to the city who had just arrived that very day. But not that he'd reveal that information, not that he'd show how uncultured he was. One day, he wanted to stand on equal footing as Nafretiri. And maybe that was bold, wishful thinking. Unnr almost wanted to laugh at himself. He was actually pretty hungry; his arm and leg muscles ached as the adrenaline wore off, especially after following after the four-pawed feline; and he was just glad that he didn't have to eat his meal alone. Meals were meant to be shared. It wasn't a time for silence. And now, he wasn't alone.

Just as she figured, he was all for the idea of being part of her staff team. The first member of her staff team, she wondered if she should make it large or perhaps keep it small. A problem for later, for now she needed to iron out the little nitty gritty details and get an official "yes" from the guy. Ah but all of that would be done, hopefully, today when they went to go eat lunch. She could feel the hunger gnawing in her gut, practically begging her to hurry and smash that last sign post into the ground so she could eat. Good thing it was done now!
She could hear that particular tone in his voice when he echoed the word "timburr"; the liepard didn't remark on it but noted it down for later. She hadn't heard a single word today from the little brown pokemon that could be construed as negative but the way he said that... well... It almost sounded disdainful. At least in her ears. Perhaps it was nothing though and she shouldn't fixate on a little thing that he said so she didn't mention it and instead focused on another thing that he happened to mention. "I'm sorry to hear that your day is... 'off'. Is there anything I can do to help it?" Or was it simply off because he hadn't expected to run into a "famous 'mon" and now his mouth was running a mile a minute before his brain could catch up? She was banking on the latter but figured it didn't hurt to ask.
The question of where they would be eating for lunch was bounced right back at her. Oh dear, they could play this little game all day but sadly Nafretiri's stomach dictated that a decision be made now. If he insisted that she pick the place then she would do it. "I'm none-too-picky myself, comes from growing up in a smaller village. You had to eat what you could eat." Which sometimes included ferals but she knew that was a touchy subject around these parts so she would keep that bit to herself. "How about we go to Pinap Paradise? It's a small cafe but they have delightful food, it's one of my favorites here." Knowing what the answer would already be she waited politely for a couple of seconds before leading them away towards where the establishment was.
It was a relatively short walk and once there she walked right on in to the building, pausing only to hold the door open for the little cubone. She lead the way over to a small wooden table with two very primitive, but comfortable-looking, chairs set up. Nafretiri took one seat before looking expectantly towards Unnr and then towards the emolga waitress that made her way towards the table. With a little grin and a warm friendly voice the lady greeted them, "Howdy, there. Welcome to Pinap Paradise where everything's a taste 'a paradise! Can I start ya'll with drinks today?" The liepard gave her own smile right back, swishing her tail. "Hello to you as well, could I have a Pecha Juice, please? And Unnr, please feel free to get anything you'd like. The sky's the limit! Although if you like sweet stuff I would wholeheartedly recommend the Pecha Juice from here, it's to die for." And then she was silent, allowing the little pokemon to order in peace.
